    Thanks for this video I’ve had an Odin 2 base for over a month now and it’s amazing I would recommend you have the same keys as your firmware version and have force maximum GPU clocks and use asynchronous shaders are turned on in Yuzu! It drastically improves performance and the key/firmware thing fixes issues like the MK8 Deluxe MII issue! Also Aethersx2 is no longer in development so make sure you don’t grab the latest version you get version 3668 because it’s the same as the latest but it doesn’t have ads and make sure you turn off auto updates in the play store!

    At 53 years old, I'm a novice when it comes to emulation. I have a couple of Anbernic devices and had ordered an Odin 2 pro. I cancelled my order not because of the price, but because I wasn't sure if I would have a device that would do what I wanted to do. Which is retro emulation and Android games. A dedicated android device just for game is appealing to me. I ended up woth the Retroid Pocket 3+. It's the perfect device for learning emulation. Im just disappointed that it says Diablo Immortal isn't compatible with my device. I am still looking to get an Odin 2. I think it's a great device overall.

    I will say one thing: Switch emulation can be popular because it allows people to apply mods to their games! To do that on an actual Switch, you either need a very, very early iteration of the Switch for a physical exploit, or to pay out the nose to add a modchip.

    • @kingupright

    What's kind of being neglected in terms of information about this device is that the 450 something dollar model comes with 512 gigabytes of storage and a micro SD card slot. This has all the internals of Galaxy s23 Ultra minus camera and phone for damn near $800 less... For an Android device that is pretty damn impressive

    Totally on board with the Switch emulation thoughts. When I was in school I totally would have been tweaking on it for hours "because I can" even if I had a Switch. But now that I'm in my 30s and have too much stuff to do, I just want to play games and not waste time screwing around making things work. I pretty much play all Nintendo games on real Nintendo hardware because everything else so far is a compromise. A real Switch just works, and everything I've seen/tried so far for DS emulation is so much worse than just using a DS.
    I do have some of my PS2 and GameCube collection on my Steam Deck for convenience and if I don't want to go to the TV. Something like this would be cool for something smaller and lighter, and way longer battery life if you're not planning on playing bigger PC games on the go.

    For $299, the best value handheld by a mile. The Switch has 4Gb RAM, so it should be possible for all games to run well on the 8Gb Odin 2. Emulation gets better each day. That Snapdragon Gen 2 is amazing value when you compare the phones that it comes with. This demonstrates that great tech can be made, for a profit at a great price.

      @fafski1199 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pistolao_vr Who's going to game on a handheld for more than a 2 to 3 hour session anyway? The Steam Deck gets anywhere from 3-7 hours of battery life whenever emulating games (dependant on emulator). It's not exactly what I class as being an insufficient amount for most people. Hell, access to being able to play AAA PC games, having a fully functional PC and being able to play 80% of Switch games fairly flawlessly on the Steam Deck (far more so than on the Odin), is in itself probably worth paying out an extra $150-$200 for those privileges. However, the fact that the 256GB LCD Steam Deck can now be picked up for £100 less than the Aya Odin 2 here in the UK, just turns the whole decision, into an instant "no brainer". Hell, you could even pick up a Retroid Pocket 2S alongside that Steam Deck and still come in under the £450 price of a Aya Odin 2. The Odin 2 is just too expensive for what it is. If it was a £250 - £300 handheld, then it would be one hell of a good deal and likely a must buy. However at £450 it just gets outclassed and bitch slapped by both the Steam Deck and the Z1 Ally, which are both in the same ballpark on price.
      BTW, I've also got a feeling the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro due out next month for $200, will make the Odin 2 look terrible in comparison (around 75% it's performance for well under half the cost)

      @@Carcosahead The way I look at it, the Steam Deck is more of a gaming PC alternative than anything else. The battery life isn't that great and the thing is big and loud. I don't see it as particularly practical for on the go gaming. It is more powerful though and will play "modern" PC games. It's more suited to gaming on the couch or somewhere like a hotel room or a relative's house. The Odin on the other hand is smaller, quieter, and has a better battery life. In my opinion, it's right on the edge of practicality for gaming on the go. It's large, but still small enough that it's not a chore to take it with you when you're on the go. It's perfect if you just want to play some N64 or Gamecube games while you're out of the house. It just depends on what you want.
      Personally, I wish I could get something with the power of the Odin 2, but in the footprint of a 3DS XL. Something you could reasonably fit in your pocket. I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon though, so I might just pick up the Odin 2 or the pro version.

    The Switch lacking game saves on the carts themselves or offering a way to put saves onto an SD card is enough reason alone for me to dump and play my Switch on devices like my Steam Deck. I can go between an amazing upscaled higher FPS game with mods to remove dynamic scaling or blur on my desktop or laptop and then play it on the PC handhelds with an experience similar if not better than the switch hardware and it's super easy to manage your saves.
    I just picked up a copy of Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince and it says "Does not support cloud saves" on the back of it. A title released like a week ago?!??!

      There’s a few games that don’t support cloud saves. All the main Pokémon switch games among them. I’m assuming in part to prevent the ability to dupe monster by trading, closing software, restoring from cloud.
      It’s frustrating that this was two companies solution to prevent duping in their monster collection games. Especially when you might actually need to restore a save for any legitimate reason.

    I have a (LCD) Steam Deck and mostly recently a used Retroid 3+. I stopped buying consoles at about the PS3 stage (didn't play this one that much) and play far less than I used to. I play mostly emulated gameboy Tetris (90%) of the time. The rest of the time I will play Mr Driller (Dreamcast), Zookeeper (android) and Baku Baku animal (Saturn). The last one has been the most challenging to emulate but works on my current machines. The screen retroid is a bit small whilst the Stem deck is bulky to take travelling. I was considering an Odin 2.
    I noticed that my phone (Galaxy fold 5 ) has the same chipset as the Odin 2. I inserted into a gamesir x2 controller, but Baku baku animal would go black when rotating to fit into the gamesir. I was fiddling with the Yaba 2 app and chose openGL instead of vulkan and lo and behold, Bakubaku works with the rotated screen. I might not get an Odin 2 after all.

    I've been considering about getting the Odin 2 for the past little bit. When I watched your video, I almost bought it... but then I started doing more research on this device. It seems to have growing issues with the screen and battery right now...
    Screen: some people got their new devices recently (past 4-5 months) and their screens arrived with dead pixels. From my research on Reddit, Ayn changed the policy with Odin 2's dead pixels a few times: initially, they would send you a replacement device promptly (9+ months ago)... then they send you a screen…. Then they give you a $10-15 refund… and now they would tell you this is the "Standard" of their screen and do nothing -- with 2-3 giant pixels.
    Battery: a growing number of user are reporting spicy pillows... the number is not too bad yet, but it's a bit concerning be cause it's not even a year yet... Ayn seems willing to replace it if you send it to China within the warranty period.

    I think the only appealing aspect of having a console like this that can also do switch is that you don't have to mod a switch to do similar; and I feel like game wise, you'd want to do it to be able to run modded or hacked games.
    Animal Crossing is one good example with a pretty good modding scene, but Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has an amazing one. Because it was created in Unity, fans have been able to do all kinds of stuff to the game from fixing following pokemon, bugs, and removing the chibi-artstyle, to adding in every single pokemon across every generation including Scarlet and Violet, and adding back stuff like Mega Evolutions (as well as silly stuff like "play as kirby"). It's very cool to have that as something you can turn and play on the go... (but also kind of sad the game couldn't do all this stuff already). It really seems like Pokemon BDSP is going to become the future Pokemon Fire Red in terms of creating hacked games and fan projects.

    This is one of those things I would think about buying if I didn't already own a Galaxy S23 FE and a Galaxy TAB S9 Ultra which, especially both are very capable at emulation and Dockable to my TV, so it's like having a Switch for retro games and android games

  • @Cloud28693
    @Cloud28693 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I am not interested in Switch emulation, and that's even a tricky matter for a lot of reasons... I totally agree: if you want to play Switch games, just buy a Switch. But I definitely love the idea of upscaling PS2 and NGC games, and even use a handheld as a console to plug to TV: that's the main reason why I would consider an Odin2 (and also because it seems great with controls and ergonomics). However, I totally agree: price is an issue, and there's the Steam Deck just at the corner. Having something slightly less powerful, just to have 1080p PS2 without Switch emulation, around 250$ maybe, and in a smaller form factor, is what I would seriously consider (Retroid Pocket 4 hopefully).

You can find them at best buy right now for $319 (open box) or $350 brand new.... you're point of just buying a switch instead is more about being able to do that and MORE as apposed to buying it just for that...i was interested in the odin 1 or loki moreso than the odin 2 (i like having the odin and loki logo in the bottom left 😄)....

    I have a Steam Deck and love what it can do, but find that unless I specifically need it for a PC game running locally off the system, it isn't my go to. Too bulky, battery life is poor, etc. It's just not an ideal emulation machine and despite spending significant time setting up like 1tb of emulation on it I removed it all and dedicated my Tab S7+ to that role. Much better experience, infinite battery life, killer screen, PS2 is no problem. It was great. But carrying a tablet and 8bitdo controller isn't super portable either... so that's where this comes in perfectly. It's definitely a niche device and if you only want one machine then Steam Deck will absolutely do it all, it just isn't necessarily the best option if you can spread things out and delegate a bit.
