I've just bought one of these. My previous bike was an 2005 Kawasaki ZX10-R which I've owned since new. That's just become my new track bike. The "deal breaker" for me on this over the Ninja 1000SX is the ability to have sat nav and phone displayed and useable via the bike screen. The gearbox is sublime on this too, as Suzuki gearboxes generally are. This is also IMHO a little more "sporty" than the Kawasaki which probably edges it on the touring side. If you're coming from a full on sports bike you won't be disappointed with this up to lower treble figure speeds. It gets long in the tooth when you get to really silly speeds which are best left to the track anyway. Both this and the Kawasaki are great bikes though.
👌 Congratulations on your new bike! It is a great motorbike, I was really impressed. I have just had a day testing the Kawasaki 1000SX and everything you said is spot on. You will have to wait for the video to see which one I would have 😉 Cheers and enjoy your new bike.
I took delivery of a GT 3 days ago. It's simple: the S1000 GT is a more comfortable GSX-R1000. It's a GSX-R you'd be fine riding an entire afternoon together with friends. The engine tuning for off track, street oriented power is superb. It's there and most definitely very smooth. But smooth doesn't mean slow. If you want a more comfortable sport bike, you'd have it with the Suzuki GT. I considered the Kawasaki SX. But the Suzuki is the much better looker of the two. The Kawasaki's ho hum looks seem to be a makeshift model with "NINJA" slapped on the side. And I'm sorry, but an adventure bike is NOT a sports tourer. How those two became conflated is beyond me. Sports Tourers are both these and the FJR and Concours. An Africa Twin is a big dirt bike. A V-Strom is a monstrous mess and a Tracer is a joke. LOL

Hi Angus. When you said that a throttle is a bit jerky, I noticed you were in the A mode. A mode is the sportiest and most direct one. Most people prefer B mode, which smooths it out. And for B roads I believe you can set damping softer. Obviously wouldn’t do it mid-ride and on all occasions, but set for the majority of roads using during rides .
Hi, thanks yes I thought that was the case! At first I found it tricky to distinguish between A and B modes, however that sensitive throttle was definitely in A mode. Watched the Ninja 1000SX video before this, if you liked the feel of these bikes you should give a Zero SR/S a go. Very similar riding position and overall design but of course all electric! Super interesting having instant throttle response and no engine vibes on a sports tourer. One downside of course is range but that doesn't matter too much on a 1 hour test ride!
👍 Thanks that is a great idea! I would love to have ago on the Zero, can imagine is is so silky smooth and crazy fast. I must try and get a ride on one, thanks for the suggestion.
I think this is an excellent bike, great bang for buck, awesome looks and putting the sport back on sport touring. I hope it does well; we now know Suzuki is not exactly swimming in cash and besides, I'm a bit sick of the massive ADV trend. No, you're not Ewan McGregor and you ain't taking your Multistrada off-roading, stop kidding yourself. More manufacturers need to realize the value of road focus touring bikes that can take you places and put smile on your face while doing so... without costing a kidney.
A great question 👍 To avoid the long explanation and reasons why!! I would definitely go for the Suzuki. The NT1100 is definitely more comfortable and better wind protection. However if you enjoy your riding and appreciate a nice engine then the Suzuki is the one. Cheers
I am 5'9" and I found it quite loud!! It is clean air but for some reason seems to be very strong flow over the screen. It is fine on A and B roads but on the motorway and dual carriage way I would recommend ear plugs!

Hi Brian, to be totally I do not know! There was no obvious reason. I think perhaps because it is a brand new bike, there is something going on with the electrics. It was an immediate loss of power, definitely felt like an electrical issue.
@@redangrevival "It stalled when you pulled in the clutch because the auto choke had disengaged before the bike had warmed up enough to hold normal engine idle speed. Hi, I have an rs660 at the moment which is really fun in town and on short rides. Lightweight and flickable etc. but its not comfy at 6ft3 so im considering this suzuki gt. its about 35kg heavier i believe and i wondered if it will be less ‘fun’ than an rs660 or lighter bike that you may have ridden? Thanks
I would say the GT is a great option for you. You will find it a lot more comfortable but it is still great fun. Also the option to go touring if you fancy it! Of course the extra weight will make it less nimble and agile in the corners and the brakes won't be as sharp. However I think you are definitely on the right track looking at this bike. Still great fun to be had and comfortable at the same time! Plus the 4 cylinder engine is a beauty 😁 Cheers
@@redangrevival that is really disappointing thanks for the info! Suzuki managed it with the 650 burgman. From your clip and the wind noise at high speeds it seemed most comfy for the rider at 60.
It stalled when you pulled in the clutch because the auto choke had disengaged before the bike had warmed up enough to hold normal idle engine speed. You really should warm the bike up before riding. PS If you'd let the clutch out as you were rolling it would have fired up again. Not the bike's fault.
@@redangrevival Interesting and correct ; ) When you started the bike the temp gauge wasn't registering an engine temp, because it was too cold. When you rode out of the driveway it had just registered 25 deg and was still idling at 2000 rpm, that's the fast idle warm up cycle. Watch from 3:00 your first gear change was quick enough to not let the engine speed drop too much. Your 2nd change was too slow, the revs plummeted then the engine cut out. When you ride during the warm up cycle, the engine cancels the fast idle, that's why it died, and when you tried restarting the engine it wasn't too happy, the idle speed was low, lumpy and rough. Eventually the FI worked out what was happening and reactivated the fast idle (2000rpm) and it sounded much happier. Again, not the bike's fault. We live, we learn. Ride safe. PS normal operating temp for that engine is over 70 deg C, and warm idle speed is 11-1200 rpm.
@@redangrevival Knowing enough to let your bike warm up a little is not specific to this bike my friend, nor was the bike's reaction to the way you rode it. That you didn't recognise what had occurred is a rookie mistake, and that's ok. Learn from it. An experienced rider would have let the clutch out while rolling and the engine would have fired up again. Then again an experienced rider would have let it warm up till the idle had settled OR used the quick shifter, because it's there. "Why have I never had it on another bike?" lol, is it really so difficult for you to admit your mistake, even when it's pointed out to you, that you still need to blame the bike? It's pretty obvious you haven't been riding for very long, things will happen to you "for the first time" for some time to come. If this is the way you respond to making an error (new information) then you'll be making the same mistakes repeatedly, as well as new ones, and that's kind of risky and dangerous. 3:33 "I think I'll let it warm up a bit. It's a brand new bike, it's got like 58 miles on it or something. That's weird, it's a glitch in the system I'm sure. it's a brand new bike and needs to warm up a bit" You're so close to getting it. Yes it does need to be warmed up, at least till the idle has settled. And the only "glitch in the system" was the hardware/wetware interface. Or to put it another way, you. Anyway, stay safe out there
@@space.youtube Not difficult at all to admit my mistake. "my friend". I was not blaming the bike, I was merely stating a fact. I was actually trying to compliment you on your knowledge and be nice, I now see that was a mistake 🥴 Have a good one bud, take it easy 👍

👌 I completely agree! A fantastic bike that has opened my eyes to the true "Sports tourer" motorcycle world 😁 Love it
shame they yet again got the screen wrong as far as the rider is concerned
@@jerfootpath3774 Yes an adjustable screen would be nice. However I think easily solved with an aftermarket add on.
GSX-S 1000 GT vs NT1100 DCT, what would be your choice if you'd commute on it everyday and ride to south Europe now and then?
A great question 👍 To avoid the long explanation and reasons why!! I would definitely go for the Suzuki. The NT1100 is definitely more comfortable and better wind protection. However if you enjoy your riding and appreciate a nice engine then the Suzuki is the one. Cheers
@@redangrevival Thanks!
Looking forward to see the review of the GX
I look forward to riding it 👍
Great review!
👍 Thanks glad you liked it!
Looking forward for the comparison with the kawa sx
👍 Cheers, currently trying to schedule a ride in on the Kawasaki asap!
BIG QUESTION: How loud is the WIND NOISE? Some bikes can be deafening over distance
I am 5'9" and I found it quite loud!! It is clean air but for some reason seems to be very strong flow over the screen. It is fine on A and B roads but on the motorway and dual carriage way I would recommend ear plugs!
@@redangrevival I've owned 27 bikes and my current Yamaha FJR1300, has BIG turbulence noise off the fairing (NOT clean air).. deafening. No other bike I've ever owned is that bad. Unfortunately, in the US you cannot test ride a bike such as the 1000GT... so I'm eager to know
@@888jackflash I hope the info helped 👍 Like I say it is clean air flow, just quite strong!
@@redangrevival Thanks. CLEAN, I can deal with. TURBULENCE... creates a roar.
Why did it switch off ? Cause for concern here. Your explanation did not explain sufficiently.
Hi Brian, to be totally I do not know! There was no obvious reason. I think perhaps because it is a brand new bike, there is something going on with the electrics.
It was an immediate loss of power, definitely felt like an electrical issue.
@@redangrevival did tou report this to shop? Did they have an explanation? Low battery perhaps?
@@TheCdubbleyoo Hi yes I did report it. They looked into it. I think it may have been just a low battery, needed some juice!
@@redangrevival "It stalled when you pulled in the clutch because the auto choke had disengaged before the bike had warmed up enough to hold normal engine idle speed.
You really should warm the bike up before riding. At least till the idle settles down from fast idle to normal idle speed."
A little mechanical empathy goes a long way.
PS If you'd let the clutch out as you were rolling it would have fired up again.
Not the bike's fault.
@@space.youtube Interesting 👍
Good video, Suzuki should put this engine in sport adventure!! GSX V Strom 1000 and 750🤔
Thanks glad you liked the vid! I agree, I think more manufacturers should experiment with using lovely 4 cylinder engines in adventure bikes 👍
For example, a Triumph Tiger sport with the 1200cc triple would be lovely!
@@redangrevival 👍🏻yes, Suzuki should compete against Kawasaki Versys 1000 and 650 with Gsx engine! V Strom is a fantastic bike , nice relax engine but put the Gsx engine on an adventure bike, you have new sporty adventure bike! Check my video on my Gsx, 750 ,changed the ergonomics to upright seating position for comfort in long distance riding ! Not cool but very comfortable! 😂
@@redangrevival thanks 👍
@@FFTVCrypto My pleasure, good luck with the search
did the screen adjust? Manual or electric?
Unfortunately it is not an adjustable screen!
@@redangrevival that is really disappointing thanks for the info! Suzuki managed it with the 650 burgman. From your clip and the wind noise at high speeds it seemed most comfy for the rider at 60.
@@jerfootpath3774 Yes at high speeds it is very loud air flow! No buffeting but just strong wind! I think an aftermarket add on is the solution 👍
It stalled when you pulled in the clutch because the auto choke had disengaged before the bike had warmed up enough to hold normal idle engine speed.
You really should warm the bike up before riding. At least till the idle settles down from fast idle to normal idle speed.
Edit:
A little mechanical empathy goes a long way.
PS If you'd let the clutch out as you were rolling it would have fired up again.
Not the bike's fault.
Thanks, that is interesting 👍
@@redangrevival Interesting and correct ; )
When you started the bike the temp gauge wasn't registering an engine temp, because it was too cold.
@@space.youtube haha you know your stuff on this bike! Why have I never had it on another bike? 🤔
Very good to know the why though cheers.
"Why have I never had it on another bike?"
lol, is it really so difficult for you to admit your mistake, even when it's pointed out to you, that you still need to blame the bike? It's pretty obvious you haven't been riding for very long, things will happen to you "for the first time" for some time to come. If this is the way you respond to making an error (new information) then you'll be making the same mistakes repeatedly, as well as new ones, and that's kind of risky and dangerous.
3:33 "I think I'll let it warm up a bit. It's a brand new bike, it's got like 58 miles on it or something. That's weird, it's a glitch in the system I'm sure. it's a brand new bike and needs to warm up a bit"
You're so close to getting it.
I was actually trying to compliment you on your knowledge and be nice, I now see that was a mistake 🥴
Have a good one bud, take it easy 👍
TBH not a fan of that one, great review
Were viewing it from the wrong side dude
So blurry video means speeding, eh??
No must be something wrong with the camera 🤔!
Probably the heat haze off the engine
