    Great video - showed me everything I needed to install my own FLO - easy, peasy. Had several plumbers quote 1-2 hours labor - $250 to $350. One plumber said he used to be an attorney and now he makes more money.

      He must have been a terrible attorney. lmao

    I understand the enjoyment of DIY projects and because of that I enjoyed the video. However as a professional plumber I can say that the quoted price was reasonable. I'll help everyone to understand why. First you have more than an hour in this. You did the set up in the house first then you drew it up and went to Home Depot to get the materials before you even started the install. So I will take a conservative guess that your time is about 2.5 hrs. Second though functional the job is definitely DIY quality. Don't take offense but a pro would have done a few things differently. Like making sure the ball valve is able to open 100% of the way so calcium doesn't build up on the "ball" which will cause premature failure. Or redoing the pressure reducing valve connections to eliminate flow reduction. Maybe even mounting the assembly to the wall to avoid accidental damage if something bumps or falls on it. Lastly, warranty. If you pay a professional you get a warranty. A bit of peace of mind can go a long way. When considering all that $300ish was a great price. Oh and the other commenter was absolutely correct about the grease. DO NOT USE BRAKE GREASE ON YOUR PLUMBING!

      350 is well worth the money for this. With his knowledge he should be comfortable paying 500 or more. Yes he got it done but but barely and its not a good job. I hope nobody follows his advice. :(

      Exactly, don’t forget about the $1,000,000 insurance policy with a $1,000,000 umbrella we have as well

    This meetflo device is an awesome investment considering a few of my neighbors had their homes flooded by leaky pipes while they were sleeping. It was a nightmare for both families, everything was ruined and then there was the Insurance Claim nightmare.

    OMG with the brake grease, epic fail. You need food safe silicone.

  • @coolshadow78
    @coolshadow78 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    High-temp bearing grease on those o rings? not sure if that's the right kind of grease to put on. I thought some silicon or synthetic grease are suitable for those.

    • @glenmattson3765
      @glenmattson3765 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An internet search confirms that petroleum grease will degrade rubber seals. Silicone grease and lubricants are safe for o rings. Neither are edible. I personally would have just wet the o-ring surfaces with a little soapy water to provide a slippery surface and tightened that way.

    Thanks for the Video. Please don't suggest that bearing grease is potable though. There is plumbers grease or even vegetable oil for the o-rings. As the owner of a plumbing company, I'm sorry to hear that the install cost quoted was so high. Cheers

      @@gurudiy thank you, I'm studying up, I'm moving to new house and this is one of the first things I want to install and do myself and get better at being "handy"

    I think over all it was a good install, however you didn't leave enough space by the ball valve to the elbow, the shutoff valve is not all the way open. You could put the ball valve in a different position so the handle misses the vertical when opened or closed.

    • @brew-n-taste558
      @brew-n-taste558 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it does appear that way in the video and others stated the same thing. I have validated the shutoff valve does open the entire way and their is an 1/8 gap between lever and pipe. appreciate the comment; i hope the video helped. This device is awesome and I love it; i believe every house should have this device installed it has already caught 2 leaks.

    Are you having issues with your Flo. I have start to notice it doesn’t report water usage and I call moen and the telling me they may be some debris inside the moen

    • @gurudiy
      @gurudiy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not having any issue with my Flo. It has been functioning perfectly since installed; just the other day it notified me of a "small drip" which I tracked down and resolved. Absolutely love flo.

    Thanks for posting this video! I'm also about to get and install flo and this really helps me to figure out what needs to be done. A question: what is the size (diameter) of two brass tailpieces in the package? My main water line is 1 in copper pipe. Thanks and Happy New Year!!

    • @gurudiy
      @gurudiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      the tailpiece diameters are one inch (1")

  • @BenjiBenning1

    Very cool video. You're about 3 months in with Flo. Beyond the ability to turn on/off remotely when you go out of town, how do you like the additional functionality (leak detection and what not)?

    • @gurudiy
      @gurudiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it has been installed for 3 months and I love it. As you stated, I can turn it on and off remotely. I have hooked it up to my smart home so when I am away it knows.
      As for the leak detection, I haven't had any YET, however, I know I will. I did have house guest, family, who came and stayed. They took showers longer than my wife and I did causing for me to get a "high consumption alert". I got this alert in email and an automated call; this feature makes me feel very secure and DRY.

    Is it meat flow or moen flo?

    • @gurudiy
      @gurudiy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is moen's device but if you go to meetflo.com you will get an overview of it. When I made this video there was no install video's for the moen device available. I absolutely love this device and believe all homes should have one.

    If these don't sell well and Moan dumps them they will eventually dump updating the AP for it.. better hope the sell good.

    Great Video! However, did I hear you say the device cost $300. Its more like $500 at Home Depot and Amazon. Thats quite a difference - $500 vs $300.

      I believe he was talking about the quotes he got for installation around that price.

    • @wylieecoyote
      @wylieecoyote 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The normal price is $499 for the device, but there are often sales where it is $399 as it is right now at Lowes, Home Depot and Crutchfield. Some insurance companies will discount you for it as well. I had 2 breaks this past week and I just bought it.

    800... Or $1000 if plumber supplies and labor of $95 hour. And it needs power, wifi set up.

    Probably paid almost as much as the Licensed Plumber wanted for all those PEX fittings and Tool at retail prices

    • @JohnSmith-xx9se
      @JohnSmith-xx9se 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pex tool was maybe $50. Another $50 or so for fittings. Nowhere near the amount the plumber wanted, and he gets to keep the tool.

      I thought the video was pretty good for a home owner. Alright he made a couple of mistakes bottom line he can fix all of them easy enough himself. Im a master electrician and I think $800 dollars is a rip off for this job. I paid $327.00 dollars for my 3/4" moen flow and another $26.00 dollars for copper fittings and the job only took me 45 minutes sweating all my fittings. It took me longer to set it up on my phone. Paying $500 and change for 1" moen flow valve is ridiculous when the only difference between the 2 are the brass flanges. If home owners don't do it themselves let's say $300.00 for the plumber, another $350.00 for the valve and material, and another $125.00 for an electrician to install an outlet from a nearby circuit not to many fo these flow valves are going to be sold. I commend this gentleman for putting himself out there for comments but in the long run if he saves a couple of DIY $500 to $1000 dollars it was worth it.
