    Thanks for the video. I have a 70 convertible GTO and the boot cover is a major pain to install Technically, those clear plastic strips do fit under the chrome weather stripping around the opening, but again, are a pain. My only concern with the metal clips you're using are scratching the car. But they do look easier to use. BTW. I just bought a new cover from ProFit Auto Interiors and am very happy with it.

      the clips attach on to the boot cover has shown in this video. Then this boot cover using the attached molding clips attach to the molding around the chrome molding and of course the snaps snap onto the snaps located on the rear panels. I will post another video of the final installation here shortly.

    Thanks for the install tips. I'll be installing the same boot (same color) on my 70 Chevelle with the same clips. I'm wondering how it fit on your 68? Was there any wrinkles or any adjustments you had to make to the clips. Would it be better to install fewer clips to start and dry fit it? Thanks again!

      For my top i put it in the sun for almost 4 hours to help stretch it. I also made sure that the clips where fastened was good on the car. I did this by just laying the car cover and using tape marked where i would install them. It turned out great ... is it perfect NO but only i can tell most people tell me i did a great job.

    How do you choose the correct length?

    • @gurudiy
      @gurudiy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim great question. It really depends on 2 things; the weight of the door you are trying to lift and opening height in this case. When you buy gas struts they have a pressure setting along with a weght it will lift. Now since the stuff is made in china (most of them), i go for larger pressure knowing that in time it will go down. My doors maybe weight 3 lbs but the struts i bought lift 18lbs. Second and more important is the height of the opening. My cabinet doors were 9in opening and if you look on this link; www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0156P6YVC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1&fpw=alm and look for compressed length. This compressed length must be smaller than your opening. This is the most important measurement.

    I think over all it was a good install, however you didn't leave enough space by the ball valve to the elbow, the shutoff valve is not all the way open. You could put the ball valve in a different position so the handle misses the vertical when opened or closed.

    • @brew-n-taste558
      @brew-n-taste558 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it does appear that way in the video and others stated the same thing. I have validated the shutoff valve does open the entire way and their is an 1/8 gap between lever and pipe. appreciate the comment; i hope the video helped. This device is awesome and I love it; i believe every house should have this device installed it has already caught 2 leaks.

    High-temp bearing grease on those o rings? not sure if that's the right kind of grease to put on. I thought some silicon or synthetic grease are suitable for those.

    • @glenmattson3765
      @glenmattson3765 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      An internet search confirms that petroleum grease will degrade rubber seals. Silicone grease and lubricants are safe for o rings. Neither are edible. I personally would have just wet the o-ring surfaces with a little soapy water to provide a slippery surface and tightened that way.

    I understand the enjoyment of DIY projects and because of that I enjoyed the video. However as a professional plumber I can say that the quoted price was reasonable. I'll help everyone to understand why. First you have more than an hour in this. You did the set up in the house first then you drew it up and went to Home Depot to get the materials before you even started the install. So I will take a conservative guess that your time is about 2.5 hrs. Second though functional the job is definitely DIY quality. Don't take offense but a pro would have done a few things differently. Like making sure the ball valve is able to open 100% of the way so calcium doesn't build up on the "ball" which will cause premature failure. Or redoing the pressure reducing valve connections to eliminate flow reduction. Maybe even mounting the assembly to the wall to avoid accidental damage if something bumps or falls on it. Lastly, warranty. If you pay a professional you get a warranty. A bit of peace of mind can go a long way. When considering all that $300ish was a great price. Oh and the other commenter was absolutely correct about the grease. DO NOT USE BRAKE GREASE ON YOUR PLUMBING!

      The normal price is $499 for the device, but there are often sales where it is $399 as it is right now at Lowes, Home Depot and Crutchfield. Some insurance companies will discount you for it as well. I had 2 breaks this past week and I just bought it.

      I thought the video was pretty good for a home owner. Alright he made a couple of mistakes bottom line he can fix all of them easy enough himself. Im a master electrician and I think $800 dollars is a rip off for this job. I paid $327.00 dollars for my 3/4" moen flow and another $26.00 dollars for copper fittings and the job only took me 45 minutes sweating all my fittings. It took me longer to set it up on my phone. Paying $500 and change for 1" moen flow valve is ridiculous when the only difference between the 2 are the brass flanges. If home owners don't do it themselves let's say $300.00 for the plumber, another $350.00 for the valve and material, and another $125.00 for an electrician to install an outlet from a nearby circuit not to many fo these flow valves are going to be sold. I commend this gentleman for putting himself out there for comments but in the long run if he saves a couple of DIY $500 to $1000 dollars it was worth it.
