    Gotta hand it to Kevin Peter Hall. The Predator had a sort of cool swagger about him. Just the way he moved. He knew he was a badass and that he looked cool af in that mask.

      So cool also as McTiernan gave him a on screen cameo as the chopper pilot at the very end.

    I disagree with the idea that Arnies performance was typically Arnie. I actually feel he delivered a great performance, very subtle. If he wasn’t so ridiculously musclebound and his accent strong, he would get more props but as an actor myself I think he really conveyed what the audience needed to see and I think the director did a great job with Arnie. I also think the wise cracks and one liners work now more than ever. It shows the machismo and Bravado of the group at the beginning as they show that they don’t take their human enemies seriously and is part of the character arcs they all have of being less and less macho as the film goes on culminating in Arnie, the most physically superior of the cast getting his face smashed in and thrown about like a little kid. The drift from cockey Macho behaviour to ‘oh shit something is hunting us!’ Also builds up the menace of the predator which culminates brilliantly in the final battle. It’s a near perfect movie in every way, acting, direction, casting, effects, musical score. To me it’s a timeless masterpiece with tremendous rewatch value that still holds up today.

    The one liners, and over the top action in the beginning is needed to later subvert the tone to sci fi thriller

    i dont mind the one liners, the movie starts off as a generic 80s action movie and they fit right in with it, makes you think the rest of the movie is gonna be like that then it just gets darker and more intense

  • @ryan4327
    @ryan4327 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The way I saw it, this movie sort of turned the typical 80s actioner on its head. If you look back at, say, Rambo or Commando, we have unstoppable guys with innumerable body counts. Here, we have the same kind of tough guys, but they get their asses handed to them by an invisible stalker where they are like children in comparison. All their machismo and bravado means nothing when skulls and spinal columns are ripped out in one go and the Predator could have taken them out 20 times over already.

    I wish they make a prequel to Predator, to see what happened to Dutch's friend Jim Hopper ( Green Berets out of Fort Bragg), and how it played out.

    • @rustykuntz94
      @rustykuntz94 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be a cool idea for a prequel. Seeing the Predators first landing also on earth.

    • @cdevil9488
      @cdevil9488 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Except Predator 2 shows that the Predators have been coming to Earth for hundreds of years. And since we already know what happened to Hopper's team, a prequel of it would be pretty much a waste.

    I remember when this film came out in theaters. When the camera showed the aftermath of the team laying waste to the jungle. The audience reaction gave the scene some gravitas. A quick note: A comic book store in the local mall where I grew up had a life-sized replica statue of the Predator next to the front door. That thing was huge.

    fun facts
    Jean Claude Van Dammne
    was originally playing
    the PREDATOR
    creative differences and
    script changes made him
    walk away
    then the creators wanted
    a giant and they talked
    to ANDRE the GIANT
    but his physical
    limitations prevented
    him from the walking and climbing everywhere
    Jesse Ventura
    was cast as BLAINE
    because
    Arnold was a fan of
    his and the WWF
    the MTV shirt
    Jesse - BLAINE was
    wearing was actually
    his and the wardrobe
    department had to
    buy dozens of the
    same shirt to match

      Thomas Phillips , you are correct Sir! Even a movie I am not going to watch, their review of it is interesting and entertaining. I've seen a lot of them though and I always appreciate their take on it. If internet was never invented all this talent may never have had a way to come to light. They are probably the best channel on TH-cam.

    This is one of the most subversive action movies of the 80s and one of the greatest action films of all time!! Arnie is great here as he shows genuine fear while facing off against the Predator. And the film really does turn the 80s action genre on its head. It takes all these big muscular guys and puts them in a situation where they are no longer invincible. Predator is a masterpiece for sure! Love this one!!

    Wonder why the predator didn't take out the guerrilla camp? Plenty of dangerous armed men there. But there is no sign the predator is preying on them. And "moving through the jungle quietly"? Going to the guerrilla camp, yes, but on the way to the extraction point? They make enough noise to wake the dead with ear-splitting fire fights. Aren't rebels supposed to be all over this jungle looking for them?

    I was already a big fan of the X-files but my older brother who was a massive fan of Arnie, but I was like come on its just another one Mike, and so we both sat down and watched it on vhs with a few drinks and he watched me with a smug look as I was completely engrossed by it and I was thinking afterwards this is one of the best films I've seen in a long time and I dove into the second film and I was officially a Predator fan and got into the whole Yautja laws from the books and comics and later when Predators was released in 2010 I couldn't wait to see it, thanks bro 💯

    Arnold was right he could not carry this film alone why he needed others eg bill duke, jesse ventura, carl weathers, his rescue squad who said they were not assassins seemed more honorable than the high on drugs psychopathic colombian jamaican killer squads in the 2nd film. You actually cared for Dutch men in the jungle of south america but not drug gangs in Los Angeles in 2nd film getting killed by the Predator. The viewer in 2nd film would have felt Jamaican voodoo pussy group (cowardly men murdering a naked man in a ritual) & Colombian street gangs vs cops got what they deserved instant karma by their deaths at the hands of the Predator. In fact the viewer was glad drug gangs were getting murdered by the Predator on Predator side in 2nd film!

  • @rustykuntz94
    @rustykuntz94 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The kills of Dutch's team happen in 2 quick bursts really. Hawkins & Blaine's deaths happen within 5 minutes of each other. Then its not till another 40-45 minutes later that there's another death scene. And boy do the next ones happen in a flurry. Probably less then 10 minutes together Mac, Dillon, Billy & Poncho's kills come.

Joe type of movie in terms of characters from 80's cartoon and toy line..some the guys look just like several of the "Joe" characters actually.Blaine, Billy, Dutch , Dillion ..well all of them actually lol
