    i wanted to see where you connected the positive cable, since you went straight to the battery that is on all the time even when the bike is not. My fear is if i do that it could kill the battery. or maybe not if it’s not charging anything. thoughts?

      @joejoeMan923 I believe that there is a small amount of battery drains as the voltage is stepped done but it’s not significant enough fore to ever notice. I rode daily for a while (commuting) until I could work from home and then once every week or two and never had any battery issues. if you want to be safe, find a switched wire and tap into it.

      @@robertphillips4155 Thanks for responding, Looking through the other comments I see a lot are asking the same question. I did it the same seems ok. If you see a video or know where to connect easily for switched power please share.

    I think it's funny that avoiding taking off the tank seemed to be more of a pain than taking the tank off. Only takes a couple mins.

      Thanks for the comment. I couldn’t figure out how to get it off without getting gasoline all over everything and possibly breaking hoses. Maybe you can do a video on removing the tank.?

    Nice job. I bought the Harley power port and it said to remove the gas tank! Yeah right F That I did the same thing routed it nice under the tank as well thanks for sharing your video.

    When you feed wire on your bike, use a larger diameter grass trim line and that eliminates the chance of scratching the bike. Normally, the pull is not very long anyway.

    Thanks for the info Rob! Since you have had a little time since you made the video, do you regret not using a switched circuit?

      Hi Chris, no I don't. It's nice to have power even with the key off. I find that I don't use the USB port unless I'm riding anyway so it has not been an issue for me.

      Robert Phillips will it drain your battery if your phone 📱 and GPS is unplugged?

    • @artest7
      @artest7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was reading through the USB charger instructions and it said, "The 12V source must be a switched source (ignition, accessory, etc.) of some type.The USB charger has a continuous drain from the 12V source and if not disconnected it will eventually drain the battery when the vehicle is not operating." That being read, Did you notice any extra drain/strain on ur battery after a year of use? Thank you in advance! Kiko

      Matthew Read I apologize for not responding earlier. I don’t check my videos often and I don’t recall receiving an email notification from TH-cam .
      I always use a battery tender when I’m not using the bike for a while. I have had it sitting without the battery tender for a couple of weeks with no issue. There is a conversation from 12V to 5V so there may be some phantom voltage leak.

    Had my tank off many times. Not hard. Quick disconnect on the fuel line makes it easy. Have to take console off. Its held on by one Allen and one bolt.

      If you remove the rear tank bolt and seat, and tape the USB cable to a straightened out coat hanger, you can literally push the wire thru the cable channel under the tank in seconds.

    • @robertphillips4155
      @robertphillips4155  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DH thanks for the comment. That was what I was hoping I could do, unfortunately on my bike the cable channel was only 1 or 2 inches wide and every time I tried to thread the fish wire through it would go off track. If the cable channel went the whole distance that would have worked. Maybe each bike is different.

      @@robertphillips4155 fish tape isn't rigid enough. In addition to a coat hanger, a wooden dowel or metal rod, anything skinny, straight and rigid should work. I learned this method from a Harley forum.

      @DH Good tip, thanks. I can see where a wooden dowel could work well.
