  • VW TDI Diesel Gets 120 MPG on one Gal of Diesel with CNG blend!!
    I will give the math up front. 2001 VW TDI 129 K using my new CNG blend test system.
    Round trip 90 % Highway 75-80 MPH.
    60 Miles round trip used .51 Gal of Diesel and 1.2 GAL (GGE) of CNG yes I have the slips.
    That is a 60% blend of CNG it has very smooth power to boot.
    The EGT never went over 990F on long uphill pulls.
    Using this system should give you a 70% reduce in fuel cost per mile traveled
    I give up some trunk space for a CNG tank on a Jetta ½ the trunk on this TDI I use 2 small test tank that fit in the spare tire space 1.5 GAL filled.
    For the front end kit I see it in the $500 range
    Used tanks can be found from $100 to $1000.
    You can view the how to do at wwww.CNGVW.wordpress.com
    I will be selling this turn key kit on my Ebay store for the front end kit for $550.

    Get a tank of MagneGas. Dealer list could be found at MagneGas Corp located in Florida. Many distributers of this renewable gas that has 60% hydrogen. It can be used in place of natural gas without any modifications to a natural gas vehicle. Currently MagneGas is being used as a replacement to acetylene for welding. It cuts metal 38% faster than acetylene. It combust at a flame temperature of 10,500 F.

    When you combine the price of the diesel and the propane that you burn what does it break down to cents per mile? 120 miles per gallon on diesel sounds amazing but that’s not a Realistic cost per mile without calculating the cost of the propane also. I’m sure it’s still very good. But I would like to see more accurate breakdown please.

  • @gsgsgsgs3650

    Simple question why not use propane? Easier to come by and safer no high pressure tank.

    • @zazugee
      @zazugee 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      propane goes with gasoline better than methane bc it have lower auto-ignition at 470C
      while methane is 537C
      diesel compression makes air reach up to 750C so, it can make both propane and methane auto-ignite
      while gasoline pre-ignition compression only reach 350C so not even enough to auto-ignite propane, but propoane have a low flash-point so that's ok
      propane can be used in diesel and there are kits for it, but they are mostly for adding power, and can't be used to totaly replace diesel oil, bc some small qantities of it as still needed to keep running (the reason for that still escapes me, is it bc auto-ignition happens earlier than without oil? and thus will cause knock and unefficiencies? )

    This seems like a good idea, but a bad system. It should be on some kind of progressive controller, so you can run 30% 70% or whatever blend you want, and so it shuts off at idle. In my opinion it would need a bigger turbo since more fuel is being added. That's the proper way to keep EGT's down.

      Paulson Good job. You should use a EGT I think you are pulling to much CNG because of the higher Vacuum in the intake track witch could be come a run away engine. BOOM .
      To find the right ECT for your engine install the ECT then run it on diesel only drive it very hard record the highest reading. I would only go 200-300 above that number with CNG to play it safe.
      with a build TDI 1600F is about the limit.

      Bob Mann HHO is just water that's been turned into hydrogen/hydrogen/oxygen, another words the gas which makes up water, by pushing the atoms apart with electricity. I highly doubt it would be able to compete with this system you install. The only way it could compete is if someone had their own hho generator, and a safe way to store it, both are highly unlikely.

    I guess I am having a problem with the math. .51 gal of diesel + 1.2 gal of CNG is a total of 1.71 gal of fuel over a 60 mile trip. That is roughly 35 mpg, not really fantastic. I guess if you just include the diesel used then you get the "120 mpg of diesel" but you also used another fuel and in reality no where near 120 mpg. What is the actual cost savings?

    • @DrVolks
      @DrVolks  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I guess you cant do the math. the point is by using a Duel Fuel system you cut your cost per mile traveled in half.

    • @keokio7
      @keokio7 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Here in so.cali, the cost cng is ~$1.99 - $3. Assuming $1.99 the cost of that 60mile trip would be $2.40 (cng) + $2 (diesel) = $4.40. Which is still not bad.. but that 2002 jette tdi 5spd does 49mpg according to google which comes out to $4.90 for 60miles @ $4 per gallon for just diesel. $4.40 with cng and $4.90 with just diesel for that 60 mile trip. Correct me if my math is wrong but thats hardly half, but then again its only for socal prices
      So to answer the op's question, you save 50cents for that 60mile round trip by using cng, this is again according to prices here in los angeles, but if your cng prices hover in the $2 range you're saving 50 cents. This is of course varied depending on the vehicle
      i find the title miselading

    • @keokio7
      @keokio7 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sploofmonkey these prices were before the leak.. i have no idea what the prices are now. If and thats a big IF.. you get $1/gal then it may be worth it.. I think you'll save about $8-15 per fill up depending on how many miles you get per tank.

    • @keokio7
      @keokio7 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +sploofmonkey well he is getting 120mpg on diesel because he used .51g of diesel to get 60 miles. But you gotta remember he also used 1.2gal of cng along with it. When you add up the prices you do not save 70%.. at the time i calculated for california you're saving around 10%. Its misleading, because if i give you an analogy i could say i got 100mpg on this car because i drove 60 miles and push it the rest 40 miles, yah i got 100miles from 1 gal but i also pushed it lol.

    I don't see how this saves money my math and tdi show that your system is more expensive to run than straight diesel. my 01 jetta tdi man trans gets 57.5 mpg when using hypermiling techniques so I would consume 1.04 gal of diesel. diesel price 3.85 cng price /gge 1.95 so when I do the math using your system .5 of diesel is 1.92 and 1.2 gal of cng is 2.34 so total trip on your system would cost $4.26 and on straight diesel it would cost $4.04 so please where the savings.

      I got between 60mpg and 70mpg with my 2003 alh always driving 50 mph (80km) and always putting 59 litres in so this cng stuff isn't worth it TDI all the way

    propane injection is better and easier to fill.

  • @davekauffman8727
    @davekauffman8727 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The fuel has to be injected at a precise moment during the cycle, you plumbed it directly into the air-intake, I'm guessing that it isn't concentrated high enough to combust when compression builds enough and the glow-plugs won't light it off.

    I am concerned the methane emission from this car. Some CNG gets unburnt in the TDI engine. CNG is primarily made of methane. Methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. You may save money in this conversion/upgrade, but you may be emitting harmful emissions as you drive

      MJ you need to do your home work . I have installed over 50 unit and sold over the years many more systems. I am the only person in the USA to race a VW Beetle TDI CNG car on the road-race circuit. Never burned and thing but tires up. I no longer sell or install system the cost of CNG is to high to make it work

    ok so you have to pay for two different fuels? not to mention taking a 500 dollar jetta to the shop and paying them to convert it??? this video is bs

    • @lucaseq77

      Whole Europe is using compressed propane in gas and diesel cars. Diesel is cheaper than in US, propane is way cheaper than equivalent of gasoline, propane keeps engine clean, gas mileage greatly improves and fuel cost is greatly reduced. Old installations used to start engine on gasoline, and you had to switch manually to propane. Newer ones could do that automatically.
