This is absolutely my least favourite Broken Sword title. Played it once, never touched it again, barely remember anything about it. I will say one thing though, the "Health Inspector" scene that you mention, it's not the the Nuns don't recognise George, it's that they think George was pretending to be an annoying American as a test of some kind as a part of the surprise early inspection.
That was definitely worth the wait. The Broken Sword series was one I never got to experience growing up but listening to your enthusiasm for the series makes me want to play them one day. Your channel deserves far more recognition. ❤️

im replaying all of them, its was 17 years since i played the first game, on smoking mirror now. massive fan since i was 11 my dumbass took ages to figure out the puzzles back then
That is a really good video! Liked it. I as well loved the music from Anna Marias apartment, really invited you search the building. The theme I also really liked. . played Broken Sword over 20 years ago and am loving it to this day. Part 1 and 2. And finally arrived at part 4. And I have to say: some of the puzzles are the most pain in the ass I ever experienced in a video game. I sometimes wander around over an hour for the next missing part. As though this is fun when this happens one time and you find the next clue step and feel like "Yes I finally found the next clue!", in this game, I find myself often in those situations and that frustrated me to no end. Like why the heck should I show that priest my pen? Like you show a pen to this priest you found much earlier in the game. It took me nearly 2 hours to find that out, scaning every milimeter of Anna Marias apartement. It was totally random that I found that out. That felt so dumb. And now I am running back and forth to find a way to get the black cat entry card. It does not feel natural. Those progession steps take often too much time and slows the pace down way too much. Or to kick the door out of the frame in the beginning of the game, where you first have to check this thing so it breaks out. That, I don't know, happens to often and feels so constructed in a way. A game shouldn't be that frustrating. Honestly, that is bad game design, as much as I love Part 1 and 2. On the other hand, the game plays so much better than part 3, and I like the story and I like the different locations and the humour. It's not a bad game, but I too often feel left alone not knowing how to proceed.
I now found the clue to get Marks cat club card. I tried this at least 10 times, to create an autograph, before I showed him, after I showed him the photo, but it did not work. Now, its working. After like 2 or 3 hours scanning every pixel for something I might have missed. I don't know what I can say about this.
And also IN the black cat club you meet the guy from broken sword One, Duan, where George has his moment where he thinks like "I met Duan a long time ago.. the first time in south america." As far as I know, Syria is not in south america. So they obviousely refering to Broken Sword two not one. I haven't seen your whole video yet but I see you mentioning the last part with Duan as well. At this point I am only playing this game not for "fun" anymore, but for the sake of how downhill the game is going to be from here, how silly the puzzles are going to be, even though I am in love with the first two parts. Now coming out of the cats club, you are thrown into a bomb defusing scenario with hacking the US military in 10 minutes. Like what the actual f**k. What is this game?
I greatly disagree about the graphics vs Broken Sword 3. I think BS3 looks much better, more polished. Especially talking about environments. Really enjoy your videos btw!

For me, I just thought that BS4 was a bit more refined, however I do still think that both games are pretty uninteresting visually. The graphics are fine, just nowhere near as interesting as the first two games, or even the 5th one.
I may be one of the few fans of Broken Sword that liked "The Angel of Death". For me, it is my second favourite Broken Sword game, after Broken Sword 1. (SPOILER ALERT) the disappearance of Anna Maria and the investigation that George and Nico conduct to know more about her is really exciting, as well as the locations (specially Rome and Istanbul)... For me, a fantastic game!
That's fair. I really liked it, just thought it wasn't a good Broken Sword game. But if it was just a separate game called Angel Of Death, it might've been a lot more popular, I think.
22:16 I disagree with you on the useless “nooks and crannies” part. I love, optionally, being able to click and learn about the surrounding objects, it makes the game feel more immersive to me, and it also can teach you more about the main character as they give you their opinions on the surroundings. While playing the 4th game, it felt like there was nothing to look at which made it even more boring than it already was. It also made the game overtly easy imo, since I easily knew which objects I had to use to solve problems.
I have to disagree with you here, I think this was Nico's best voice! the worst was Broken Sword 2. This game had some great tracks and has a better soundtrack than both three and five (in my opinion) I didn't mind this game but it hasn't aged well. They should have stuck with the 2D point and click game play and thankfully I think they've realised that now. For me this games story was better than three and five (there's a lot to like) but it's not in the same league as the first two games.
Y'know, when Sumo Digital ended up handling Doctor Who: The Adventure Game, I remember thinking, "How did they land that contract?" I associated them with racing games at that time, and while now I know they've actually done a ton of genres thanks to random contracts (like Track & Field DS) or outsourcing/collaborative development (working on recent Hitman games or handling the bulk of Crackdown 3 for example), but _this_ is the missing link my brain needed for Doctor Who to make sense! I remember those games/episodes being quite decent, so this turning out pretty alright (despite not being a true Broken Sword game) makes sense! I'm gonna have to give this a play sometime. Btw, I only recently discovered your channel, but I'm always on the lookout for good TH-camrs that cover PC games. Coverage for games like these Broken Sword titles or Beneath a Steel Sky seems to be a dying breed now that creators like LGR have moved onto covering hardware more than games, and Pushing Up Roses covers, like, Golden Girls episodes now :/ The videos of yours I've seen are all excellent; you do great work. Definitely subscribing!

even back then I was not a huge pro-2d defensor, but for P&C almost every big title ran into wall, it was like thé genra couldn't pass thé tech.. After BS3 I never wanted to play this one. When I saw how empty the scenes were I was convinced not to... Even nowadays I can't really think of a good full 3d P&C.... 🤔....well I enjoyed Dreamfall a lot, replayed it (light scénario in comparison with longest though) and décided to play to Dreamfall chapters, not really a P&C.. loved them
The only Broken Sword I haven't yet played. I'm gonna try and play and review every version of the game for my channel. Tbh I think it started to go downhill by number 2, even though that game is still a classic.

Eventhough the game isn't great (something just feels really off about it) i do appreciate that the "amateur" fans went out of their way to make the game and it's fully voice acted aswell. I probably won't make a full review of it, because I feel like it would be unfair to critique a fan game with such heart put into it, but I will definitely talk about it at length.
It's the ridiculous puzzles that makes the games interesting to me tbh, too much easy puzzles feels like doing chores, which is what new games nowadays feels like.
Also, these games 3 and 4 are alot worse graphic wise than 1 and 2. By that i mean 1 and 2 is pixel art and is viewed apon as classic adventure games. Im sure if they made a broken sword game with the latest tecknology today, they would do alot better than 3 and 4 (score vise by fans and critics). The broken sword games is more dark than other games, with humor here and there ofc, but generaly it fits the 3d enviroment imo.
I love your videos but I have to disagree with you on this one. I think Nico's voice actress did a great job in this game and I loved the part where George pretended to be the health inspector (the German accent was great) I also don't think George came across as homophobic and I don't think the game was making fun of that characters sexuality but if you had those feelings whilst playing I can't say your wrong (I just didn't see it the same way) I do agree that this didn't feel like a Broken Sword game though.
My opinions on voice acting are always subjective, so I can't fault you if you liked Nico's new voice. However, I personally hated it. I thought it was bland and lazy. Almost like the voice actress wasn't interested in the role at all. As for the homophobic jokes, I am 100% sure Revolution didn't mean to be homophobic, and I'm sure the jokes weren't meant with any ill will, but it is what it is. I'm glad they stopped making such jokes in future games. Personally, these jokes just didn't sit well with me, but I am not gonna hold them against the developers. And I'm sure George isn't a homophobe, it's quite clear. It's just that this joke made him look like one in that particular scene. So yeah, I don't blame you for not seeing an issue, and I might be reading too much into it. I just had to include my own thoughts into the review, and to me, the joke was a bit off.

After I played through 3 and the frustrating amount of moving boxes and dying failing sneak timing, I tought 4 would maybe be better. God, it was worse. I take the frustration from 3 any day over the boredom, flatness and nonsensicalness of 4. The Inzro was cool, but had somehow nothing to do with the game. Also, does 4 play before or after 3 timeline wise. I know the radio guy is mentioned in 4, but that does not neccessarily mean anything. After 3 George should be a bit more... well, he was knighted by a swcret order of monks and f*ing killed a Dragon! So why do the characters feel so meh. I have started 5, but am stuck on the first murder scene in the Galeria. Please, don't tell me it's another "click on everything and hope something happens" case.

What I don't understand is why - why do they have such difficulties writing stories? It's not that any of these issues are deep and difficult to see. On the contrary, it's very surface level. And yet - they made these decisions and went with them. I must be missing something. Maybe they should hire not only professional voice over, but also a professional script writer for this. It's a pity that a game like BS is ruined by what it must be good at - a good and consistent story.

I must be missing something. Maybe they should hire not only professional voice over, but also a professional script writer for this. It's a pity that a game like BS is ruined by what it must be good at - a good and consistent story.

Yeah I was about to comment the same, 17:00 the moment I hear those annoying modern woke words like "mysoginistic", "who thought making a gay joke was a good idea?" etc I stopped the video, so annoying. Granted this video is from early 2021 when people were even more annoying with political correctness (now in 2024 everyone is sick of it) but still
