Before you start watching this, bear in mind that even though I say this is the last video in my Revolution Software Retrospective, I don't mean that it's the last Revolution game I'll be reviewing. It's just the last game in this particular retrospective series. I am still gonna review Beyond A Steel Sky next, so don't worry.

I remember playing Broken Sword for the first time on my Original Playstation late 90s/early 2000s . When my friends didnt understand the game but I absolutley loved it! All those late nights trying to solve the puzzles and having conversations with all the fun charachters in the game. My room was just above my mothers room in my old house we were living in so in the morning she would ask: whats those voices I keep hearing ? lmao.. Good times!

I played this one back when it was released and I haven't played a single Broken Sword game since. Yesterday I was feeling a bit nostalgic towards the series so I randomly found your retrospective playlist which I pretty much binge watched.
And shockingly as much as I agree that this is an improvement over BS3 and BS4 I still remember those two far more than I remember this one. The majority of this game faded from my memory until I watched this video unlike the previous 4 entries which are still somewhat clear in my mind. And I didn't necessarily even enjoy BS3 and BS4 that much, yet I still think they are memorable. What is wrong with me hahaha

I got stuck on that cockroach puzzle for quite a while but i usually get stuck on puzzles since i am a dummy. I finished the game today and I enjoyed it, although I wish it had better pacing. The 1st part is longer and has us walking in circles in Paris with a brief detour to London. The 2 part is more varied but shorter and the locations are quite empty with the finale being especially disappointing. I feel like there should be an entire section between the plane landing and getting to the "temple", without that the final location has only 2 screens and no new characters.
Despite that I still had fun, thanks for your retrospective, I watched your previous videos to refresh my memory of the series before playing the 5th part :)

Been looking forward to this video! I found this games story a bit boring and I didn't like the character models either but the games backgrounds were beautifully draw.
I wish they'd bring back different returning characters instead of the same old faces (never liked the Hendersons) there's so many memorable characters that they could bring back such as Rio, Raoul or Bert from BS2 or McGuire or Nejo from BS1.
The song in this game was terrible! (the one you play in the scene were you dress up as the dead man) doesn't come close to 'Happiness Is An Inside Job' from BS2.
You should make a video, 'what I want for Broken Sword 6' we can spam Revaluation with it and hope they get the message.

    • @FairuzAlBahr
      @FairuzAlBahr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Personally, I really loved the story, but this is definitely a subjective matter. And I definitely think it's not the best in the series, but it certainly beats the stories of 3 and 4, that's for sure.
I am not really a fan of the Hendersons myself either, but them being in the game has now become a staple. I really enjoy their presence because they became a big part of what makes a Broken Sword game. Personally, I wish they wouldn't bring back more than 1 or 2 characters from previous games, as I think they should focus more on new characters instead. But yes, seeing the ones you mentioned would be really cool. Especially Nejo, because that's me :P
The song is pretty subpar, I agree. Thankfully it wasn't written by Barrington Pheloung, which is why it wasn't as good as Happiness Is An Inside Job.
That's a very good idea. I might actually work on that video after I finish my Beyond A Steel Sky review.

@@FairuzAlBahr I didn't mind 3's story it just went off the rails towards the end. The first game clearly had the best story but I did like 2's story and the locations it took us too.
I get why you don't like returning characters and I think a lot of that has to do with there being no change or growth (it's too similar) but if they brought back Nejo or McGuire they could expand those characters a bit as both would be (or could be) adults now.
I didn't really like most of the locations this game took us too. They were nowhere near as interesting as Ireland and Syria from the first game or the Caribbean level from 2.

I played through this game only once but watching this review made me dislike it again. I get why because of the gameplay and story people compare it with the first game. But personally I think the character models are ugly and the animations, script and voice acting make this game feel so overacted. Even the first two games who had a clear cartoonish style made me feel more immersed in a more serious story (well, the first game was more serious).
This game clearly feels like fan service with its overuse of former characters in silly situations. In the fifth installment it's also so stupid to see how George and Nico's relationship has almost zero progression. It's like the characters are no "real" characters anymore and they were having a theater play in their own world. I know the Parzival's Stone is in development but I'm not looking forward to it. I have the feeling it'll go in a similar direction like this game, yet I'd be open to watch a review first and see what they actually did.

My main issue with bs5 was that the ending felt very out of nowhere, rushed and unpolished, like they were running out of Kickstarter money after the chapel. Also the true antagonist was barely introduced beforehand and that felt cheap to me. And of course, how many times can you endure people saying the word "gnostic"?
