    One thing which no one appreciates but i don't know why, is his body language as spiderman. He's long, slender, he crawls, arches his back, he's the only spiderman that feels like a spider, and I love that. His completely black eyes in the first movie add to that. I love that suit

      Although it seems to be unpopular, I like that suit too. I think it brought something new to an already well know visual. First time I saw I was like "wow he looks like an alien" (which is pretty cool for me, specially with the outsider vibe of the character)

    I was a production assistant for this movie and at the time Andrew and Emma were dating. They hadn't spoken to each other all day if not a few days before the capture of Gwen's death. This is a technique called method acting so the emotional disconnect and loss of Emma's presence would force the emotion out of Mr. Garfield. What Peter felt there was genuine fear and grief.
    This was the first take but there were a total of 3, the first one was all that was needed.
    Now you know why that scene was so powerful.

    Garfield is fantastic. His Peter Parker, while different from the comics, feels more realistic than any other portrayal. He really brought to life the emotional baggage of someone who was basically abandoned as a kid and tried to deal with the hand he was dealt in his own way. His Spider-Man was perfect.

    • @charlesoflyon6578
      @charlesoflyon6578 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Different from Earth 616 Peter you mean. Because Andrew portrays Peter from Earth-1610 which is pretty comic book accurate if you ask me.

    • @tehlazercat8438
      @tehlazercat8438 2 ปีที่แล้ว +102

      See I'm always confused by this, and I wonder why people keep saying it. Andrew is easily the most comic accurate Peter Parker when you take into account the comic Peter's genius, quips, and spider-like fighting style. Ironically large portions of what people complain about Andrew's spider-man actually comes from the comics. Peter Parker gets girls a fair bit, so I don't see where people get this idea that he's romantically inept. Even his spy parents, which a lot of people complain about, is directly ripped from the comics.

    Personally, whilst I love how Gwen's death was handled at the end of the second film, I would have preferred it to lead into the 3rd film with Peter still struggling from that loss and not having come to terms with it completely yet so that the third film could focus primarily on Peter overcoming that grief, rather than them wrapping up that plotline so quickly. Obviously that was never to happen anyway as we never even got a 3rd film but I feel it would have made for a great arc for Andrew's Peter if we ever did get that 3rd film

      That's actually a really interesting idea but at the same time i also liked how they ended tasm 2, one of my favorite endings and really captures what spidey means to the city and people all together and shows that he truly is a hero. Him facing gwen's death would've been amazing for the 3rd movie but then most of the movie would be more of Peter and not spidey which lot of people sadly wouldn't like. Maybe if it were a tv series that arc would've made a lot more sense

      Andrew's Spiderman is more comic accurate for me. The Amazing Spider-man is not as nerdy as the original Spider-Man, acts really arrogant and is the very definition of "what if a normal teen gets a superpower". But that's your opinion and I respect that, and this is my opinion and I'm just saying what I think is a fact.

    • @Seismitoad3
      @Seismitoad3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      For me? Tobey Maguire's first movie from a story-telling standpoint was amazing, I loved it, I still do, it's simple, shows good contrast between Peter and Spider-Man, but when I think of Tobey's Spider-Man I think of a different person, and Peter built walls around himself with the mask of Spider-Man.(Also, in the second movie Alfred Molina's Doctor Octavius is amazing) The reason why I think Tobey's is the most appreciated, especially in nostalgia, is because it's easy to follow as someone completely new to Spider-Man. It starts straight from the beginning. Nothing lives up to it's standard because it just told the story as it was. Andrew has the emotional response, which Tobey only really had when his arc was over, and he truly became Spider-Man. His (Andrew's) body language completely sold it for me. Tom's is odd to me, can't put my finger on why.. Maybe the lack of quips. Andrew set up that side of the character great! Dialogue sucked though, but the emotion was definitely there.
      However, the lack of quips for Tobey's Spider-Man? (Apart from the meme-worthy ones) Well, tbh, it didn't feel needed as much to me. Tobey's Spider-Man is the most cliché, with MJ always being in danger, but I still loved it.
      Tobey's Spider-Man feels like a brand (for the lack of a better word), not a person. When the suit's ripped however, you're reminded of who he really his. Me and my nostalgia-clouded vision have to hand it to Sam. He killed it.

    Actually before the Raimi films, Garfield’s depiction of Peter Parker is 80% accurate (minus the slate boarding, etc) In the comics, Peter is a selfish, flawed asshole and it takes time for him to grow into the Spider-Suit. Upon getting his powers he becomes a bully and grows to embrace his responsibility over the city. He’s not cool, he’s an outsider. This is the most realistic peter parker and spiderman.
    It took him half a film to actually be spiderman(bridge scene)
    His a teenager thats undergoing changes, has a complex, and is immature. Thats very relatable to an extent. The whole first movie was about more than great power come great responsibility. Its about doing the right thing because you can, and the hardest decisions are what makes him a hero. Peter in the beginning made a mistake which he regrets and in the end he makes a decision that he will regret.
    Pretty much the same thing in the 2nd one. He makes a mistake which he regrets in the end because he thought he could have a normal life but that is far from it. But in the end of that movie he makes a decision that he wont regret is that by continuing to be spiderman.

      - Peter went to a public high school called Midtown High.
      - Miles went to Brooklyn Vision Academy a school for the academically gifted.
      And what type of school does MCU Peter go to? An academically gifted academy type of school.
      - Peter has a best friend name Harry Osborn, he’s super rich and good looking well fit dude who has daddy issues.
      - Miles has Ganke Lee is super smart and loves being Spider-Man’s tech guy and physically a bit overweight. (Not that matters, just stating it.)
      And what type of best friend does MCU Spider-Man have? A kid named Ned Leeds (who’s not really THE Ned Leeds as far as I can tell.) What type of friend is Ned? Hmmm let me think.. he’s a super smart dude that loves being Spider-Man’s tech guy and is physically a bit overweight. (Although the actor is physically getting into shape probably for a roll.)
      - Peter finds motivation to be Spider-Man by the death of his TRUE father figure and the man that raised him Ben Parker. “great power comes great responsibility.”
      - Miles Finds motivation to be Spider-Man because of the death of a former hero and trying to live up to that shadow that will always be placed upon him. Only to realize HE and only HE himself can live up to his own expectations.
      From what I can tell MCU Peter became Spider-Man obviously because of the death of his uncle it doesn’t have to be stated when it comes to the backstory because everyone knows the story, BUT that doesn’t mean we just forget about it too, you can argue..”BuT PeTe HaD A OlD sUitCase FroM UnClE BeN”
      Yeah? And what happened to that suite case? Destroyed. And he didn’t seem to care about the sentimental value of it too. He seems more
      motivated to be Spider-Man because of the death of a former hero and trying to live up to that shadow that will always be placed upon him.

    All of the actors who have played Spider-Man have good things about them and so do their series. With that being said, TASM movies are easily my favourite. I love Andrew's portrayal of Peter/Spider-man. I just feel most connected to him. Also, the chemistry in these movies is totally unmatched by any of the other romantic pairings from the other Spider-Man movies.

When I was a kid and watched Amazing Spiderman 1 It was one of the best experience I have had

    I also find Andrew's performance the best, every time he's sad I feel for him and can empathize with him. If you've seen the deleted scene where he meets his father you can see how much this has impacted Peter. We have seen how much Peter thinks of his parents, how much he works for it. Only after a death, the death of the one he loved, he gets his answer. To him, it could've felt undeserved. Why did he get what he wanted only after losing someone? For him he wanted to find the mystery himself, to then feel a sense of accomplishment. You can see in the deleted scene that all his hard work for his parents felt unachieved. Then appropriately he is a mix of emotions, he's angry, sad, confused. Asking many questions in his head. It's a rush to see, it made me cry. Then we get the "with great power, comes great responsibility" line. It wasn't taught to him when he was young, an arrogant teen as this video has stated, that was his reward. What to do with his power, his gift. He wasn't responsible with his power in the first movie, even in the end. Gwen's father knows that if Peter gets too involved with Gwen she will die. Peter doesn't follow through with this, due to his lack of responsibility with his power, it caused Gwen to die. In a way, he caused Gwen's deaht from being irresponsible.

This is exactly why TASM is the best one. ❤️🥺 The Story with all the suffer Peter gets through is heartbreaking and this wakes the emotions. Specially the chemistry between Peter and Gwen gets me and with the death I really feel with Peter. Great Great Film and sooooo over hated.

    After watching NWH, I’m super super glad to see people finally recognising and giving credit to Andrew’s portrayal of Spiderman. His lean and slender demeanour, is how I would imagine the person behind the spiderman mask would be. And man, dont even get me started on his acting chops. My man made everyone teary eyed in that one single scene from NWH which lasted about 6 secs (y’all know what scene I’m talking about).

    Andrew Garfield was handed a shitty script because of corporate drama between Sony & MCU & he did the best he could do with what the directors & script told him. TASM was supposed to be 5 part series but they wrapped it up without even giving Andrew time to shine. Andrew Garfield will always be MY SPIDERMAN. Like dude totally nailed the acting as both Peter Parker & Spiderman. He really got the body language of Spiderman & Peter. You could actually feel this is the spiderman we have all grown up with reading the comics. His sense of humour, the facial expressions and his delivery of emotional dialogues were perfect. It's almost like could see his expressions under the mask even though you couldn't see it. He didnt even have those adjustable eyes like Tom has. No wonder Andrew Garfield has been nominated to the Oscars TWO TIMES for Best Actor category. He's a talented actor, too bad they didnt give him as much chance as they gave Tobey & Tom. Had TASM got 5 movies, I guarantee you no one would even dare to question who the best Spiderman is.
    Not to mention the swinging is TASM is umatched. No one, not even Raimi & MCU spiderman comes close to the parkour scenes of TASM. Also Andrew Garfield's spiderman gave the most " your friendly neighbourhood spiderman" vibes than Tobey & Tom. The way he connected to people & kids in the movie like that scene where he saves the kid from the burning car & talks to him gives him his mask or when he pulls up to fight Rhino at the end of TASM 2 when that kid is standing all alone.... That is the essence of Spider-Man for me. Tom Holland's spiderman went to picnic in Washington DC in 1st movie & UK in 2nd movie. So much for "your friendly neighbourhood spiderman"💀
    Man I really hope now that No way home has confirmed 3 spiderman can exist together & this whole concept of "Spiderverse" is being loved by people(Both No way home & Across the Spiderverse have been superhit at the box office while other superhero movies are failing)... I really hope Sony brings back Andrew Garfield as Spiderman for TASM 3 or a TV series. Tom Holland can still remain the Spiderman of the MCU universe but Andrew Garfield can be the spiderman of the Sony universe where Venom, Morbius, Kraven,Rhino etc exist. Why can't we have both?? Even Andrew has said it in interviews he's ready to play the role for the fans. Man it feels like such a wasted opportunity if Sony doesn't make this happen 😭...

    Andrew Garfield's Peter stands up to bullies like Flash Thompson in a much more assertive way, to the point of arguably being a jerk. This is much more in line with Peter in the comics' early days, who had loads of contempt for his classmates and pretty much anyone who happened to get on his nerves. Likewise, Andrew's incarnation had a much easier time of cracking wise and coming off as a jokester, albeit in a way that was still assertive and didn't reduce him to comedic relief. Tobey's Spidey rarely joked, and when he did, it came off as unnatural, especially given how serious the movies themselves were. Andrew's spiderman had the most accurate arcs to the comics, he had the mannerisms of spiderman well done and was acrobatic,agile with spider like movements. Andrew's peter didn't look upto anyone other than his uncle and aunt, like his own man. He overcomed his own problems and portrayed the brilliant witty side of the spider. He's also the exact height as parker in comics and has demonstrated the typical life of a struggling teen well.

    I guess my reasoning isn’t so deep. He’s my favorite Spider-Man just because I think he has the best swinging scenes, I love the way he moves as he fights and just how agile and flexible he is compared to the other spidermen, his suits are cool, *and* he has the best themes in my opinion. TASM2’s theme especially just hits me right here ♥️. There’s just something about the whole feel of the movies that I just love compared to other Spider-Man incarnations. And I do just generally like Andrew as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I think PS4 Spider-Man comes second.
    Edit: Nah Tobey is definitely second

Tobey in the second movie gives up being Spider Man for a while and ignores such things like a car chase and a guy getting mugged in an alleyway. Moving on to Tom Holland, his first solo movie as Spider Man is essentially a comedy of errors that culminates in people on a ferry almost getting killed, and he needed Iron Man to bail him out of that one.

  • @ozziebrah

    No that is EXACTLY what Peter should be. In the comics he doesn't give a slight shit about anyone else because he's the outcast. Except for his aunt and uncle of course. "They're the ones who've ever been kind to me! I'll see to it that they're always happy, but the rest of the world can go hang for all I care!" Even in adult life, Flash reflects on the times that he had bullied Peter and told him that he did it partly because Peter was an asshole to everyone. Even after Uncle Ben's death Peter is still an arrogant asshole -- which is why I hate when people expect him to be a goodie two shoes after becoming Spider-Man. Most heroes, including the Avengers, hated working with Spider-Man because of that reason. It took him getting friends that understood him to round off those hard edges.

    I like this Spiderman the best because it reveals some very dark sides to his existence. It also mirrors the feel, if in only a few aspects, of the Superman reboots. Kal-El felt the same kind of loneliness that Peter felt, albeit, for different reasons. They both lost father figures in their lives while not having experience with their natural fathers (and with both viewing the essence of their fathers in similar ways, how ironic!) The main difference in the two is Peter's a mutant and Kal's an alien.

Everything from way of being, to his transition, to his way of moving on screen. • @scum0320

    I feel like Andrew’s Peter Parker is actually close to the comics mixed with realism. One way Marc Webb described it was making Peter an outsider instead of a nerd since nerd has a different meaning nowadays. He’s a kid with a chip on his shoulder. Remember in Amazing Fantasy when Peter says “they’re the only ones who’ve ever been kind to me. I’ll see to it that they’re always happy, but the rest of the world could hang for all I care”? You see that here. His relationship with Uncle Ben and Aunt May feel like a real relationship between a son and his parents. And after getting picked on for so long, when he finally has the ability to fight back, Peter takes a shot at Flash. Who wouldn’t do that? Lee and Ditko Spidey was wise beyond his years, but he was still a sarcastic immature kid with anger issues and I think Andrew Garfield nailed that. Or at least, he did perfect with the material he was given
