Adding a CRT shader to the GBA might seem unnatural, but in all honesty I think it looks like a good match. I was never a fan of the original GBA screen, so this new preset is my revenge/therapy!
*Retro Crisis GDV-NTSC shader presets would NOT BE POSSIBLE without the Guest Advanced shader:

I believe I have a super power. Every time I update my shaders, a new Retro Crisis filter gets released 😅. Great as always, keep em coming
Haha we must have some kind of telepathic bond
Honestly I cannot express my grattitude for what you are doing. I have been always a retro gamer enthusiast but since I doscovered your presets my retro gaming hours have increased a lot. I cannot switch back to play with raw sprites or simple scanlines. Stunning work and really easy to set up. Thanks a lot
Wow it's an honour dude. I'm the same as you, I struggle to play with raw pixels too. Can't play without shaders at all.
Another killer shader! Thank you so much for all your work, dude! ✨✨✨
Anytime my dude
Fantastic brother, the clean one is 🔥
I'm glad you like it bro 🍻
Yo I used to love Sonic Advance. It was the only game since 3 that I ever felt really captured what made the originals fun.
Oh yes those were pretty good. I've always prefered the 2D Sonic games too
Cool shader. I'm currently running CRT-Mattias on GBA and DS games, just after the color correction shaders of those models in the Retroarc Handheld folder. I prefer more dark and pastel colors, specially for Metroid. I've also used retroarch shaders via Reshade with Another Metroid 2 Remake, my favourite Metroid game so far.
Ah nice, luckily it's fairly easy to turn correction on and off
Some nice presets there, I got the GBA at launch and still have it so it was nice to see some of the games you picked!
Ah a trip down memory lane. Do you still play yours inbetween lecturing at Oxford?
@@RetroCrisis yep, I play a lot of GB-GBA homebrew 😁
Exactly what I was looking for-thank you so much! It looks fantastic.
That's awesome dude, I'm glad to hear it 🍻
I have to say I prefer the darker GBA palette
You know, something just occurred to me. Practically your whole channel is dedicated to Retroarch and its shaders, yet I only have two videos on the topic and they are right at the top of search results. I feel kinda bad about it, but TH-cam is a fickle monster.
Haha TH-cam is a funny beast. I still can’t figure out how this damn algorithm works 🤣
amazing work as usual, looks so much better than raw pixels. Might have to play through Metroid Zero Mission and Fusion again with this shader
The Metroid games definetly benefit from it. Makes them look like SNES games
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU'LL DO NEXT.
Haha what would you like to see next?
@@RetroCrisis You already know a dirty SNES preset.
@@isayasbashiri5371 ah yes, how could I forget lol
the dirt mode mixes the gardient patterns better, but makes it look a bit worse tho, still great work!
Sadly the GBA's resolution is a bit too low, so dirty will look filthy! 🤣
Nice work again, dude!
Thanks dude - squeezed a little Sonic in just for you
@@RetroCrisis Thank you!
Stunning! I was just telling my SO the other day about how I thought the GBA Player for GC was the best peripheral Nintendo ever made. I love this shader. Thank you!
Haha what did the SO reply?? Thanks so much for checking it out - I hope it works well for you
@@RetroCrisis She thought it was amazing and happy to see something that makes me so happy :D We had a good time over the weekend and played some Pokemon Mystery Dungeon together. Maybe we'll get back to Breath of Fire next.
That's awesome dude!! That made my day to hear! I wish my SO would play videogames with me 🤣 - she HATES them 🤣
Amazing work!
🍻 thanks dude
Looks great mate nice one great advice
Cheers Marc! 🍻
I love watching these kinds of videos, and I'm giving these shaders a chance now. Do you go into further detail in any of your videos explaining the differences between them? Like the first thing I see when I go to presets are 3 folders (Lite, Standard, and Advance). Then, in each one of those, there are a dozen more options for each of the different systems. I mean, I will individually try each one out if I have to, but I wasn't sure if it was already documented somewhere to help me choose the best one right off the bat. Thanks.
A great question...seconded!
Thanks for checking it out. Just curious, about where you saw "lite, standard and advance" folders? My pack doesn't contain those folders.
@@RetroCrisis My apologies. I recently discovered your videos when I saw your video on Duimon's Mega Bezel Pack (th-cam.com/video/H61cxPTR7kI/w-d-xo.html) and have been keeping an eye on your videos ever since. I guess I assumed they were the same as your packs (or that they built on each other). I'm still somewhat new to all these new shaders that are out there and want to learn more. Do you have a discord that I can join and chat with you and others about this? Thanks.
@@clutz4509 no problem friend. It's all good. There's an official Discord for RetroArch which is worth checking out - discord.com/invite/libretro-184109094070779904
The world is one step closer to raw pixel extermination thanks to you 😂 Absolutely gorgeous! The GBA seemed like it couldn’t handle dirty, you need to go easy on these smaller consoles🤣Clean is superior and loved the games shown 💎
Hahaha bro you're absolutley right! The poor tiny GBA can't handle the gerfiness of the dirty preset
@@RetroCrisis 😂🍆🍆🍆
Nah, the better shaders for handhelds are those pixel perfect shaders with pixel separation.
That's all good. You'll have the option for both :)
Cool difference
Cheers Clint, thanks for giving it a check
Can you make a tutorial for android on how to add duckstation and apply shaders because evertime I try to add shaders it switches to gl instead of staying in vulkan
Nice shader, I've given it a try. But nothing has ever quite managed to beat Lottes CRT for me. I ended up just setting that as the Retroarch global shader for all cores.
That's pretty cool. What does Lottes do well that you prefer?
@@RetroCrisis It's the balance between blurring and sharpness, and the scanlines aren't too dark or too prominent. Everything about it is just right. Been using it for years.
Very cool, I was wondering how do I turn off the aperture grill and scanline effects?
maybe from quick menu, shaders, shader parameters; scroll down to scanline options. Mess around and click buttons in there.
@@derekfcc I have taken a peak but its like 18 parts so I'm not sure what exactly to turn off. Thank you though. :)
In the download pack, use the 'steam deck' version, that has no mask or scanlines
@@RetroCrisis thanks!
👍👍
🍻
Hi Retro Crisis. Can you do the video showing how to achieve the best crt effect but only using video filters(no shaders) for low level retro handhelds using retroarch?
Which handheld are you using?
@@RetroCrisis Powkiddy X55
@@nikoldije in my download pack, have you tried using the Steam Deck presets? Those should work
@@RetroCrisis No i did not. Great thx I will try them. It is ugly without shader :)
@@nikoldije awesome, let me know how you get on
These are all amazing and look great. Unfortunately for me anytime I use any slang shader presets, my performance absolutely tanks horribly...even though I have a 2080 Super and am using Vulkan as the driver in Retroarch, has anyone else had such an issue?
Thanks dude. Oh yes that happens occasionally. Restart your computer when that happens and it should resolve it. Guessing your drivers are also up to date?
@@RetroCrisis I have the latest driver for my GPU and have slang shaders, assets all updated with the retroarch updater. I think I will make a backup of all my configurations etc and either reinstall or do a manual update of retroarch 👍
@@RetroCrisis Kept all configs, save data etc backed up. Started completely from scratch, uninstalled, reinstalled etc. It's now working perfectly! My waterfalls have been officially pimped 🕹️🥷! Love the Mega Drive preset especially.
i think gba looks better with a simulated pixel grid and rgb sub pixels (like you can do on rt4k/morph4k)
A pixel grid is definitely the natural fit for the GBA. This shader is more of an experiment really, just to see if it works 🍻
I still prefer the raw pixels :)
😂 that's all good my dude
Mine looks nothing like this and it doesn't have those options to select. Also you cut to the comparisons without showing how you actually select the shaders. The only thing I have close to that is "video filters", it doesn't say shaders anywhere. I want to use a specific crt shader and it's not anywhere in the menus despite it being in the folder.
Hi, I'm guessing you're new here? Welcome. May I suggest you watch this first? th-cam.com/video/G42g23ONYsI/w-d-xo.html
Maybe I'm in the minority, but without color correction I find gba games look a bit garish.
Absolutley, luckily it's easy to switch between the two
does this work on android?
Should do
well gba is snes
whats the game at 04:12 ?
