Thank you ! I compared them for a week now to my mijello. I painted the same 5 paintings with each brand. Noone could tell a difference. Me neither and I am a fulltime artist 🤷♂️ so i won't pay 4x for QOR in germany. They are good and flow nice. Some synthetic ox gall to my mijello and I am good :)
I definitely need to buy these! Thanks for a great review! To keep the cakes of paint from falling out of your pallet… put a drop of water in the bottom of each half pan… under each cake of paint.
I got this set just for the palette and I was lucky to get it before prices inflated - 59.99. My impression - MEH. The silicone stains. My palette came with a couple of scratches that exposed the metal.😖 I did two paintings (same subject) side by side, the northern lights, to test the colors. I used QOR in the first, M Graham in the second. Maybe my second painting improved because of practice (from the first) but my M Grahams were so much easier to use. I thought I was just biased coz MG are my fav, but when I showed the comparison to my hubby (who is not into art), he could immediately see that the second painting was better simply because of how the colors looked. Save your money.
I love Qor watercolours! They re wet so..easily, as well as they remain very vibrant once dry. I'm not sure what the other artist whom you mentioned was doing differently to get grayed down or desaturated results!🤔 The best thing about Qor for me though is the way they disperse in water, which is unique to Qor. Great review as usual Emily!
When I first started 6 yrs ago, I got a set of tubes in the tin. It wasn’t til recently that I saw Karen Rice using both sides of the tin for mixing. So now it’s my Plein Air Goache palette.
Im no paint expert by any means, just a retired nurse hobby painter. I do know that you are one fantastic portrait artist! I think you could use a set of Prang drugstore paints and make a masterpiece. Thanks for this demo and your comments. I’ll be sticking with my Daniel Smith (with a few others tossed in) because they are good and affordable for painters like me. 😊
I totally agree. Emily, I just discovered you! Where have I been? You’re work is so amazing!!!! I’ve learned so much already. Painting water (beach) is one of my biggest fears. I just painted your Ocean Beach Sunset tutorial with you. I’m starting to overcome!!
Maybe it depends where you live, cause here in Canada, QoR paints almost 1/2 the price of Daniel Smith or Winsor & Newton!!! I buy in tubes which makes them super affordable They’re my favorite paints!!!
I’ve been using Qor for several years and when my son decided he wanted to try watercoloring and I bought him this set. Pricy but they last a long time. Beginners should never cheap out in paint or paper it can stop you before you develop your technique and style.
Thank you for this post very informative. The video I would like you to post is on the Agallo 24 signature set . you have previously done the 12 set from Agallo . But not the set you bought from Jackson’s Thank You J 🖌️🎨
Hullo Emily, I enjoyed your blue n orange portrait and I was introduced to QoR by Kasey Golden’s videos and watching her paint with the tubes! I also agree that the paints “feel” overpriced, with the synthetic ingredients they should be cheaper, right? When I am looking for a fast moving paint for impressionistic images I keep a 24 set of QoR tubes at the ready! Sweet review and I have recommended Denise Soden’s channel for getting to the nitty gritty of pigments and just how one brand looks against another! You can always pick up the mixing set from DaVinci or any of the curated watercolor palettes directly from DaVinci of California. I have several of them and Denise’s Earth Friendly Palette is a dream, she has even updated her color selections for pigments that have gone out of production! I do hope that you give one of these amazing palettes a go!
Regarding price, they were notably more expensive earlier on. When I was researching a price comparison video earlier this year, I noticed QoR is now totally in line with other brands, and not even the most expensive in many cases!
Fantastic review and a stellar set of studies 👌 I rarely see this type of comprehensive product test and really appreciate all the work you’ve put into into video production 😍 Red / Green version is my favourite! Thank you Emily 💕
This set had been in my Amazon wish list forever. Now it might be moving to my cart really soon. I have never been disappinted with any colour I have tried that you have recommended.
I love QOR watercolor paints, I now have 31 in my set ! Gorgeous paintings , they all are great but if I had to choose one it would be the green and red !
Ohh wow I love 💕 this set of watercolors. I have got the QOR Urban Sketching 6 colors set of watercolors. After watching your swatching I think I am going to get a few of these colors to fill out the 6 empty pans in my QOR set. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!
This was an awesome review video. I’ve been wanting to try qor watercolors for a while now and this video helped me see them in action :) thanks for sharing! 🎨💜
I'm really tired, so I can't remember if you already did a review of the Mijello Mission Gold Pure Pigment set. If not, I heard they're vibrant and comparable to Qor but don't move much in water.
I wasn’t as impressed as I wanted to be with Mijello’s wc. It is just my personal opinion of course but I have painted with virtually every main name brand and I use a very picky mixed palette from different brands. For me and the pricing compared to the quality it just didn’t cut it for myself but maybe someone else does like them. I don’t use fugitive paint and sometimes those things sneak in.
I have lots of Qor tubes and I was relieved to see on their website that they should plan beautifully. It's use them a lot more often in pans. Great review! I liked all three combos!
Portrait is another thing I would like to try. Right now I am into your animal watercolor painting. You are really good at what you do. You are an amazing artist.
Huh, I usually see little to no color shift with drying with my QOR. I do use their tube version that I dried into a palette. I do wonder if there is a noticeable difference between the tubes and pan sets.
Wow, such beautiful portraits with only two colors each! It really is amazing the range you can get by mixing just two colors. I love the red and green one, but I'm especially impressed with the range you got with the orange and blue.
I’ve enjoyed the QoR paints I have. Enough to expand my initial set of 12 tubes to fill a large palette. Great video and review. I love the portraits and I think the red and green one surprised me the most.
Beautiful set. I have been thinking about buying these for awhile, as I saw a number of positive reviews. But in Canada it is closer to $100. Thanks for the demos.
Hi there! I’m in BC Canada and I’ve found the QoR nearly 1/2 the price of DS or W&N ….. but I do buy in tubes so maybe that’s why? I can buy 2 tubes for the price of 1 - but I have seen the sets are pricey So buying tubes for $8 works for me 😊
@@kathyfelix6878 hi ☺️ I’m in Salmon Arm and the only art store / stationary supplies sells the QoR for $8 whereas their Winsor &Newton is $14 …. (5ml tubes) I get the large tubes at Opus Art in Kelowna
Now THIS is the way a true product review is done!👏🏻👏🏻💯 Amazing job with this - I know how much work this likely was to make…😃 I own some tubes of qor, having purchased a selection of only six colors around the time I had initially starting to develop my passion for watercolor & was ready to move on from my starter set of very bargain brand paints. I kept seeing folks online expressing that that they were the “top of the line”, the very spendy, fancy professional watercolors in high demand and still relatively new to the masses. I don’t dislike them per se, but they don’t speak to me the way that the far more subtle, less “in your face” kinds of brands and their colors do. All things being equal between brands of paints which are comparatively professional, functional, and dependable, supplies really are simply a preference sort of thing. Thank you again for the video-and your demo portraits are lovely and so beautiful in their simplicity! God Bless!!!❤🙏🏻❤
I bought this set recently but haven’t tried it yet. Now I’m psyched to try them. I liked each of the 3 color combos but I think the red and blue was my fave. Thanks for doing this video!
I have to say EMily this is the best far review I have seen on these paints. I love the travel sets. The paints get some getting used to, but I think they are pricey here in the UK but the tin is so lightweight, and the design is brilliant. Much lighter than the normal palette. I loved the blue and Orange and the green and red pics. Emily, Please could you review the Schmincke Vintage set thats out now, it sells out immediately in Jacksons as soon as it comes into stock. I wanted to know if it was worth it .
The part about the binder ứa interesting. Since they said that it holds more pigment and rewet easily I’m curious about how they compare to other vibrant watercolor like Daniel Smith, Mission Gold or MGraham. About the rewetability, in Teoh’s video he said that the dried tube paints were somehow less vibrant. Maybe a comparison with other brands, especially honey based paint , can be interesting.
I compared the PV19 specifically because I do botanicals and wildlife/nature and you can check my comment I made on comparing Daniel Smith’s quin rose to Sennelier and Qor if you like😊
I like my QoR colours better than the first two brands, and find that they can be more handy than M. Graham. Mijello Mission Gold, while pigmented, tend to get shiny in masstone (especially quinacridones) and they dull down more in my lightfastness tests, as does DS, though to a lesser extent, and I don't always feel like DS lives up to that level of pigment load. The shinyness at least says something about pigment to binder ratio in the colours I have tried (though the PY154 does not have that problem, it's beautiful!). The M. Graham are pigment packed, but never, ever dry up, and also tend to "shed" more when dry, say if you rub them with a paper towel. I still adore those though! I don't have the same experience as the previous person commenting, who said in another comment they find the QoR Quin. Red (PV19) duller than the equivalent in DS and Sennelier. That's not the case with my version. Both QoR and M. Graham are at the top of the brightness list amongst my paints. The DS one got noticeably duller in my lightfastness test, which I don't appreciate. The QoR colours also layer like a dream. They tend to stay put and create really vivid and clear layers. The difference is very obvious when I do layering tests comparing the same pigment from several brands. Also, I tend to not get disappointed by the QoR colours as much! I have two samples of Transparent Brown Oxide and Cobalt Violet, I don't like those, but otherwise they are stunning! Hope this helps! ☺️
Oh, I have the tubes! Haven't tried their half pans. And as for rewetting, in my opinion they rewet easily but seem to need/like more water when I do so! (And they stay bright with that extra amount of water, so I suppose that's also in favour of the pigment load claims.)
Maybe my first comment came out backwards, some days English isn’t in my vocabulary but I meant to say that it was DS version that became lack of luster and brilliance that Qor and Sennelier’s PV19 retained as well.
They are all great, but I love the blue purple one the most, because I love those colours and that combination. But you could make anything look wonderful with your skills!
Hello Emily, Great review on the QOR paint set. I've had this in my stash for a while (ok, a long time...) I'm excited to bring it out now to try it. Love the colour combinations that you used. I would never think to use those colours but your portraits look spectacular! Take care, and see you soon 🤗
I have the 24 tube set & the 6 intensity pan set. LOVE THEM BOTH. I am a huge fan of QOR. I do portraits as well and it’s just a delight mixing with these. Tubes are great for filling pans but I wish they had more pan sets ya know? This 12 is wonderful. I like the warm and cool primaries and the. your complimentary and mixing colors it really it wonderful. The 24 set of tubes has some incredible colors you can add to your 6 pan set where you have empty spaces. Lovely review!
They’re all beautiful but the red and green is stunning. And that from a dyed in the wool purple fan. Love the details you go into too. Makes it really understandable what you’re looking for or think is important. Some interesting tips.
I love QOR watercolours! Because of the Aquazol (I think) they behave similar to if you would use ox gall with other brands. And I’ve noticed that if you combine the QOR watercolours with paints of other brends, the QOR would push the other pigments =)
Thank you for this great review and very creative portrait demos. Really fun and informative. You are the finest watercolor portrait painter out there. Maybe even better than Steve Hanks... 😊
Very helpful review, Emily! BTW, three of their 6-color mini sets are on sale on Amazon for $21.95, a great deal. I bought the Urban Sketch set and added 6 half pans with tube paint. I'd love to see more videos of you painting plein air with a waterbrush.
Thanks for the review! I'm a beginner with watercolor. Your reviews make me want to go out and buy everything. I think it's because I think they will make me able to paint as well as you do! :) Can you review a Mei Liang set of colors? Keep up the wonderful work. You are a talented teacher.
Great review!! My favorite was the PyrrolnRed and Sap Gree,. I loved how the colors mixed to make so many different variations and mixes. I am a huge fan of QoR watercolors and have been using them for years. I also use Daniel Smith, some Winsor Newton and a couple of others where I only have a couple of tubes. I have to say QoR is my favorite. Several of the paints in my palette for Watercolor Mastery are QoR paints. I was really happy to hear that you really liked the Trans Pyrrol Orange since that is one of the paints I use. BTW I loved that you used portraits for your examples! It just goes to show what you can do with your paints. I would love to see demos using this set (or other sets) using more color combinations. Thank you!!
So glad you enjoyed this! Yes--the tube QOR paints are fantastic. Great choice for your studio set up. If only I had room for ALL the paints I love, lol!
Thank you for your review, dear Emily! I love your portraits and my fav (so hard to chose!) is the orange / teal version. Today my hubby got me 2x 6 tube set (introductory and chroma) - my very first QoR colors. So curious to test them
Just downloaded your pet painting guide. Should he named your dog painting guide. LOL. Can't wait to go through it. I love that you list tips for everything including color substitutions. I recently got the Qor tube set and intend to do a landscape soon. I wonder if the Aquasol mixes with other paints well? Thanks for sharing.
You rocked those portraits! I loved them all. The red & green stood out for me for some reason, but man just gorgeous all of them! I'm a beginner, but was able to snag a 12 tube set for under $30 at Jerry's Arterama a few months back and I love them and use them in my Watercolor Mastery challenges!
Hi Emily, thank you so much for this review of QOR mini Set. The question is if this portraits tutorial available in a real time also and where can I find it? Thank you so much! Best wishes from Austria!❄☃️🎄🙂
Awesome portraits! My favourite combo is the orange and blue. I treated myself to this set a few years ago and I think it's worth the price considering that it has the best pigment assortment. You can use the silicone squares for mixing but I decided to glue a few more eyeshadow pans with extra colours.
Hi Emily I am also a watercolorist and was very surprised to use Qor’s wc. Their PV19 quin red is the same as Sennelier’s Rose Madder Lake but when compared to Daniel Smith’s quin rose well there is quite a loss of luster and a drying shift. I also always mixed my own greens but I really like Qor’s Hooker’s green because it is more true to the real one verses the very bright DS one. Qor’s is a botanical artist’s dream and I use a very mixed palette from DS, Sennelier, M.Graham, even a couple of favorites from Winsor & Newton oh and a couple from DaVinci one from Schminke and a white gouache from Holbein. My favorite reds are from Qor and their pyrol red deep is gorgeous. I still use DS pyrol red and DaVinci’s PV 19 alizarin crimson but when having to cover an area fast whether it’s just a background Qor’s moves. If I use Qor’s pigments I still don’t intermix them with others as much but I love the whole transparent red family for botanicals for sure. ❤
I meant to say that the DS brand was what dulled down in my testing and that was what led me to keep Sennelier or Qor’s PV19 quin red on my palette. I think it came out backwards 😂❤
Awesome review Emily! I’m not a professional artist but I love all mediums and like to try different brands. I bought the 24 tube set and used them this weekend. I love the colors! I have DS, WN, Sennelier, M Graham and would put the Q’oR right up there. Thank you for all your wonderful tutorials! New subscriber🙋🏼♀️❤
Beginner here. I am really enjoying learning from you. What type of (pen/brush?) are you using for the last painting of downtown Boulder? I live in CO as well!
re: the cost: Arn't these billed as "Mini half pans"? Looking at reviews on other sites, they are described as smaller than standard half-pans. Nevertheless, I look forward to trying them.
They are, but they are also domed like W&N half pans, Prima half pans, and I believe Sennelier half pans as well. So really you are still getting the same amount of paint as if you were to fill regular half pans yourself with tubes. These half pans are almost identical to Schmincke's, where they are slightly narrower in width but the same in depth (I am convinced they are made in the same factory) and the Schmincke half pans are not domed, but hand filled in layers 4-5 times and level/flat, so take that as you will.
A great review! Now I’m really interested in trying these paints, but one question, what kind of brushes would you recommend using for them? Also, you are a wonderful artist!!❤
Hi Emily. I was wondering if you have the time of course, if you could do a Watercolor Pet Colors Ebook Guide for us cat lovers. Really enjoy your channel. Thank you!
Just wanted to point out that on the Amazon Canadian website there is a warning with this set to not spray with it as it contains cadmium and there is a cancer warning for this.

@@ninner196 Okay, thanks for clarifying! It's true that I didn't pick up on that! ☺️
They are all great, but I love the blue purple one the most, because I love those colours and that combination. But you could make anything look wonderful with your skills!
Thank you very much!
I liked the red and green. I watched this because I’ve wanted to try these watercolors. Thanks for the. Ideò!
You’re welcome 😊
Hello Emily, Great review on the QOR paint set. I've had this in my stash for a while (ok, a long time...) I'm excited to bring it out now to try it. Love the colour combinations that you used. I would never think to use those colours but your portraits look spectacular! Take care, and see you soon 🤗
Thanks, as always, Marika for the kind comments! Yep. time to play!
Please review the Rembrandt black watercolor set with two oxide black pans 🖤 which allows you to mix great granulating colors!!!
Ooh I haven’t seen that! Sounds fun!
love your work, they looks amazing ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
This is my favorite set for plein air painting by far ! I just love the wells, how compact it is and how the colors look and flow!❤
I totally agree! Great set!
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you for this great review and very creative portrait demos. Really fun and informative. You are the finest watercolor portrait painter out there. Maybe even better than Steve Hanks... 😊
Wow that is a compliment! Thank you!
Amazing what you did with so few colors
Thank you! 😊
very nice
Thanks!
Emily could you do a video on Gesso primer v Daniel smiths watercolour ground ? are they the Same ?
Very helpful review, Emily! BTW, three of their 6-color mini sets are on sale on Amazon for $21.95, a great deal. I bought the Urban Sketch set and added 6 half pans with tube paint. I'd love to see more videos of you painting plein air with a waterbrush.
Thanks for the review! I'm a beginner with watercolor. Your reviews make me want to go out and buy everything. I think it's because I think they will make me able to paint as well as you do! :) Can you review a Mei Liang set of colors? Keep up the wonderful work. You are a talented teacher.
Ooh, I'll add it to my list! ❤
So curious to test them
Amazing!! Thanks Emily
My pleasure!
You're right--I should have put some cats in there, lol! But the colors still work! Enjoy your new paints!
@@EmilyOlsonArt I paint both and knew immediately the colors work. You are so sweet. Love your work and your videos.
I have QoR, DS & W&N and I mix QoR with the other brands all the time 😊
Love the reviews.
Keep making these videos, love your work!
What brush are you using?
Love it.
Oh that’s a great deal! Glad your loving your paints!
I'm so glad you're enjoying your QoR paints! Yes--agree, such a great selection.
Loved your limited palette portraits, and Qor is great.
I wonder if you could review Michael Harding, Nila Colori and Wallace Seymour :)
Hi Emily Can I do a portrait with watered-down acrylic paint on watercolor paper. im low on my Windsor newtons. Thank you
Awesome review Emily!
Hi Maria! Thanks for the lovely comment and for stopping by! ❤
Yes, they are slightly more shallow than standard sized half pans! Thanks for pointing that out!
My fav brushes are Silver Black Velvet! 🙌
@@EmilyOlsonArt Thank you for your reply I will look into them!
Please review old holland watercolors. I haven’t seen anyone else do it :)
It’s definitely on my list!
Hi Emily. I was wondering if you have the time of course, if you could do a Watercolor Pet Colors Ebook Guide for us cat lovers. Really enjoy your channel. Thank you!
I love my QoR watercolors. I really liked the last portrait! Thanks for reviewing!
You are so welcome!
QOR is outstanding!
Qor is not overpriced my 11ml tubes last 2x as long as a normal 15ml tube.
🙌
Totally agree!! My QoR tubes are much less $$ than other brands and last much longer!!
And less color shift as well 😊

I tried the same paint. I didn't care for them. I ended up giving them away, they were the tube style.
Just wanted to point out that on the Amazon Canadian website there is a warning with this set to not spray with it as it contains cadmium and there is a cancer warning for this.
