I was in tears as you signed off. This video was like getting a visit from an old friend. I'm so happy to have been able to spend my time with "you" again, Denise. Please take care of yourself. I have an autoimmune disorder, so living in 2020 is... tricky, and isolating. But we truly aren't alone. ♡
I love Qor watercolors! I love the movement. N. Azo yellow is one of my favorite yellows. I play a lot with the blooms and bright colors. I do have several brands on my main palette, mostly because some of my favorite colors are not available in Qor.
That is so cool that you can forego sponsors now, I am so happy for you! I really like your skillshare classes and I am sad that you have had such a personally rough year on top of the mess that 2020 already is. All the best and thank you for this beautiful presentation of Qor.
Glad you took a look at this set. I took a bold dive using QOR as my first pro watercolor set with Daniel Smith for the browns. What I can say about working with QOR is that making moods and backgrounds is so easy, quick, and smooth. I can get my background colors in right before layering foreground. "Controlling" this paint for me works when I plan my wet on wet vs dry. Making sure an area is dry is key. Gradients with water brushes are also super smooth for me that I can't see the strokes. And fair warning: Paynes Grey and Diox Violet don't need a lot of water to unleash their dark potential. One drop is enough. My favorite colors are the Quin Magenta and Gold and Pthalo blue. But Paynes Grey is so much fun to work with. They way it spreads in a water droplet is fun to watch.
I love all of the thought that you put into all of these very beautifully constructed limited palettes! This series really rocks & the swatching is so therapeutic for me! ❤️
I was going to be productive and not watch another TH-cam video, but how could I not when I see that you've uploaded!! I actually really love that you included Green Gold, it was so underrated in my collection. It wasn't until I purchased your set from Da Vinci that I became obsessed with it, now it's a must have on any palette I use!
Before I even watch this video, can I just say I was literally wishing you would post another in this series? I have your old videos all on replay lately and I miss you so much! I screamed when I saw this!
It's so relaxing to watch your beautiful color moving swatches come together! Also gives me do many new color combos to test out! Glad to see your back 💜 I hope this means you're feeling a little better despite everything going on 😊
Thanks for this great video, Denise! You're already aware of QOR being my favorite. Their trans. pyrrole orange, payne's gray, azo yellow, & cobalt teal are my go-to's in regard to those specific pigments. I started with their mini tin, fell entirely in love, & later made a larger studio version for bigger wet in wet pieces and experiments. What I actually use-up most, more than even paint or paper, is their synthetic ox gall. That aquazol is pure magic when you want to watch your watercolors paint themselves! I'm aware it's not for everyone, as it truly moves like no other paint I've experienced - but that's exactly why I love it. Coming from a draftsman's perspective, where everything is precise, exact, controlled, & heavily detailed, this was exactly what I was looking for pursuant to the artistic sense of duality. 💕
I love Qors! A while back I bought a lot of Qors colors from an art store that was going out of business.... my only regret is that I should have gotten more!! Thank you for all your informative content :)
I love QoR colors so much. Love these videos, very informative and you can tell you spend a ton of time working on these. Appreciate you and your time dedicated to art and aspiring watercolorists :)
Thank you Denise, for your beautiful presentation of Qor watercolors...hope you can make a painting with them one day soon...all the best...keep safe and well...Janis
I use a number of QOR paints. I like the 'row of yellows' from Green Gold 129 thru Benzi 154 to Nickel Azo 150. I also like the red green pair of pr254 and pg7 for darks and neutrals.
Hi Denise, I wanted to ask you which version of Neutral tint you prefer more, from Daniel Smith or from M.Graham, and what are the differences between the two in their functions. I haven't been able to find a direct comparison between the two and would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you so much! Your zebra painting is so gorgeous
Daniel Smith's is more of a black while M. Graham is a purpleish dark. I love MGs for being a two color blend, though DS is currently on my main palette (from filling it over two years ago) because you don't need a lot of it.
I swear you can make any paint look good! I would say great, but I despise QoR paints! I have actually bought some and could not get rid of them fast enough! I love this series and it just goes to show that the proficient artist can make any supply work. I just do not want to work that hard anymore! I do admire your patience in creating your display grid. SO wonderful to watch a video from you Denise and I look forward to seeing more of your offerings in the near future.

I know hate is a bit strong and I did say despise, I know others I have sent your way are having a much better experience than I did! You can give examples of a paints pro’s and con’s that are so helpful! You are truly exceptional and I am so glad that I have found your channel! I hope you are doing well and enjoying your day!

I mostly like working with more illustrative works so I prefer brands like Sennelier, DS, Schmincke and Holbein, but I've always been interested in these watercolors as well. If I ever have the time, I will definitely think about investing in this set.
I love QORs cobalt teal. I feel bad that cobalts are so hard on the environment as cobalt teal/turquoise is one of my favorite hues and hard to replicate... I just got the nickel azo yellow and am excited to try it!

I really wanted to love Qor.. they are an amazing company and they're online presence is awesome. I purchased a full palette and attempted to use them as I would regular watercolors. They are not "regular" water colors. They are bright, vibrant, but can appear dead and lifeless when dry. The aquazol creates an experience that is more like painting with alcohol ink. I really don't want to turn anyone off the company, but I would seriously do some research and read the impressions of other artists before investing. You can learn to use them, but they will be used a little bit differently than a traditional gum arabic bound watercolor. Not necessarily good or bad, but different.. anyone, one dudes two cents. Oh, your zebra painting is AWESOME!!
Thanks for sharing this opinion! I have only used samples of Qor watercolors that I traded with another artist, but I felt the colors I had were very cold and lifeless. I paint mostly landscapes and urban sketches, so I use a mix of vibrant and natural watercolor paints, but found that Qor colors were unnaturally bright for me. Maybe I'd feel differently if I worked with them more and learned how to mix them, however despite Qor having lovely, vibrant color and moving well in water, I'm passing for now. They always look better on TH-cam videos than on my (100% cotton!) watercolor paper.
@@everartokelli I do think paper plays a huge part in how these appear once they're dry. I do mostly landscapes and seascapes and while I prefer to use cotton paper, I've gotten much better results from QoR paints on wood pulp paper or on handmade bright white paper. So basically... get the High Chroma set and add a few other shades. Got it ;) (I've had my eye on the set anyway, so I'm glad the colors are all here or in the blog post)
(Just bought the 24 set to try out the colors) of course there are some colors I would not buy again because they aren’t my style or favorite color choices, but i love qor set all the same. However there is one color standing out from the rest, neutral tint. It doesn’t look like neutral tint or pairs with other colors as neutral tint, the pigment acts like very dark green 😖

Happy to see you back on YT!
I have a very important question: which qor set did you use here in the Video? The 12 introductery set? Or just some colors you bought seperatly?
The intro of this video clearly explains the premise of this series and making custom palettes.
@@InLiquidColor sorry my English is just Not the best 🙈
@@NinaQueena ah, no worries. The entire series is about picking out specific colors.
I haven’t watched the video yet I’ve used qor for years and I’m excited and nervous to see what you think of it let’s hope it’s good🤞
I just finished this video I did not know that detail about cobalt colors and now I’m a little sad
@@kinda_crazy_art2733 I have more about them in the cobalt teal color spotlight. It's a complicated issue!
This was a great video. Thank you, Denise!!
Ps- I hope you might do a White Nights review!
Love love love QOR! Also side note I tried turn on my bell notifications and couldn’t bc TH-cam has you marked as kid content I’m sure you are aware but just in case your not figured I’d let you know!!
I actually didn't know that. It shouldn't be :( I have a few old videos that I said were kid friendly. Are you not able to turn on notifications from my main page?
So basically... get the High Chroma set and add a few other shades. Got it ;)
(I've had my eye on the set anyway, so I'm glad the colors are all here or in the blog post)
Great video as always Denise. If you would like to try some Russian brands brushes and paints, feel free to let me know. I also live in San Jose.
Can you recommend some Russian brands? I have family in Russia, but I never looked into Russian art supplies.
@@ma-rhianmck6919 - white nights watercolors are really good. Also roubloff watercolor brushes are very good. I have roubloff brushes 1410 series from squirrel. I like them as much as similar brushes from Escoda. I am not familia with russian watercolor paper thought.
@@oksusha2000 Thank you. I do know White Nights watercolors. The brushes sound amazing. Definitely going to try them out.
these watercolors are beautiful!😍
Are you going to tackle their new YInMn Blue at some point?
Please do White Nights 🙏
Great vid Denise. Glad to see that you're doing well. Now to a total non-sequitur. 😁 What nationality does the name Soden originate? I've got my top 5 guesses; Norway, Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands and Germany. Am I close?
I've heard England ("southdown" or the town Sowtown), German (the town Badsoden), and French ("soudan") origins, though I don't know which mine specifically came from as we're quite a mix, though likely not French. It's unique, that's for sure!
Qor is my favorite!
Can u please do mijello nextt! I'd love to know ur recommendation!!
Patrons get to vote on which comes next in the series, but it'll be here eventually regardless :)
I hope you’re doing well Denise.
I hope m graham is next!
Sis really know how to paint
I love QoR watercolors they are my only brand.... i have 53 colors
This is one brand I'm sorry I purchased.extreamly expensive but also weak color.
Hey Dianna - which colors do you have? QoR isn't my favorite, but I can't call it weak. It's intensely strong for me!
