    Tom had a rough patch of years a while ago. I remember seeing him on LA news here in Southern California after being assaulted over a parking spot dispute near his home. It looked bad. Glad to see he is doing better.
    Dude is in his 60s now so I don’t think it’s fair that people are putting him down because he doesn’t look anything like how he did in his 20s. That’s unfair and unrealistic.

      I mean he points out that he had no experience at the time. So harsh way to say it but it’s one thing to say that and reference how you have no experience to even be good versus it being like 15 years in to where you truly are saying someone sucks. But while a bit douchey to say there’s a respect that he just bluntly says it, right in front of the dude, versus trying to pretend differently to appease him in person and then change his tune when the guy isn’t there. So have to at least respect that aspect of it by just being straight up about it.

    I still still remember his flip off the top rope ring entrance at a WWF house show in London, Ontario that I attended in my teens. The closest thing to that, sort of acrobatic move from a wrestler back then was Lanny Poffo's moonsault and Magee was a lot bigger and the flip is a lot more difficult to pull off.. Sadly, that was his best move. I remember thinking that this guy might really be something at some point. Too bad it didn't pan out. Maybe his career was rushed too quickly, when wrestlers back in that time period tyically took 5 to 10 years to really break through. However, It didn't sound as though Tom was a fan if he only decided to get involved becauser of the glitz of Wrestlemania. At least he had athletic success in other sports at a high level and he can be proud of those achievements.

Wrestling didnt work out for him but he was still a legit body builder and world class competitive strongman. i just watched a match on here of Tom vs Arn Anderson, he really wasnt overly bad he was very acrobatic and probably could have become a good Wrestler with more training. honestly i think lack of charisma and personality were his problem not his wrestling.

      Blame Vince for giving a guy a shot? Weird take.

    • @Matt-cr4vv
      @Matt-cr4vv ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t blame Vince for giving someone a chance but you do fault him for something like this. There’s a huge difference in giving someone a chance who has put their time in, has the requisite skills to succeed in the role, and has a genuine reason to be in that spot outside of just having a good body. But doing it where someone doesn’t have that training and talent to succeed you doom them to fail and set them up for issues backstage because it’s so transparent that they’re getting a role they haven’t earned just because of their body and now someone who’s been skipped over has to incur the risks and work even harder to make them have a chance to succeed at their own expense. There’s a huge difference in that and the perception of the person getting their chance and it being seen as earned. And it boils down to putting people in a position where they have a chance to succeed and doing something like this with someone who has zero experience and just has a good look dooms them almost every time outside of very few exceptions like warrior or Goldberg

      Wrestling is a show business were the looks and gimmick sells more than anything.
      That's pretty much the reason Bret Hart was a flop throughout his career.
      Tom Magee moat likely didn't become the champion because of Patterson and brisco who mainly guided him when crowning anyone as the champion.

Was strong as a 🐂. And he can fight for real. The diversity in his athletic journey is something to behold. Saying this as a huge Hitman fan. If you just pause this video. As soon as Tom starts speaking. Just look at Bret’s demeanor there. Very arrogant look on his face. I mean come on. In a real fight. Tom Magee kills Bret Hart.lol Tom actually competed in Karate match competitions. The versatility in his athletic resume is insane. It always seems like Bret has a disdain for any wrestler with a body on them. That are being pushed and looked at as the next big thing. His resume speaks for itself. I get feeling pride for the work you’ve put in. To really hone the fine details of professional wrestling. But it’s absolutely not Tom’s fault. That he was being pushed at that moment. Like others have said. Sometimes a guy just has this aura about them. That no way you can convince the audience. This guy beats this other guy in a real shoot fighting situation. It’s the laws of nature in the food chain of the animal kingdom. This is key for me and should be a major component. In building molding a guy in professional wrestling. It’s how you really tap into the audiences psyche.

      Was a big fan of Bret as a kid and I defend a lot of his actions but some of the things he says here, and the way he acts is just not nice. Like there's no reason to be _so_ dismissive of a guy who knew he didn't make it now, 30 years after the fact. He rolls his eyes and so all it's like "dude, he's a powerlifter and an athlete in multiple sports, you opted out o Olympic competition to do pro-wrestling. To 99% of the world, Tom's the legitimate athlete and you're the fraud."

    There is no shame in him losing to Tom Magee, because professional wrestling isnt (always) about winning & losing, it's about putting on amazing matches. And when 2 men put on an amazing match (or in this case when 1 man puts on an amazing match and leads another man through it), that's all that really matters.
    And you see that the loss didnt harm Bret's career at all and in fact helped it greatly because it demonstrated to the guys in the back that Bret had the ability to help someone look like a trillion dollars without making himself look bad at all in the process. Or in other words it proved he was a tremendous top-tier wrestler & ring-general. And you see that nowadays people dont see the match and think "Oh wow, Bret sucks what a loser." They think "Holy shit Bret is such a master of his craft what an amazing match he orchestrated here." Which becomes far more clear when you see all of Tom Magee's *OTHER* matches.

      I think it has to do with him being an exceptional technical wrestler who took the business seriously and thought that merit should be why people are champions and not based on looks. Bret genuinely hates people that get put over who truly are not technicians in the ring but just “look the part”. His biggest fear I think is that certain wrestlers can actually end up hurting you…ie Goldberg.
