    Bret was so good at working with big guys, Yoko, Taker, Sid, Diesel etc he was smaller by long way yet made it look so convincing in how he would have to beat them using a cat and mouse strategy, often focusing on a body part, moving around the ring, chipping away at them, just for them to catch him and he would sell it like he'd been shot before regrouping.

      @MichaelMaxwell747 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OeraliusTarth And he was almost always more skilled against the bigger guys.
      Brett had a pretty good match with Razor Ramon who is not a giant but certainly big. Big and athletic. I just read the transcript and it brought it all back from when I viewed it. That was Razor Ramon's first match that was not a squash match or obliterating a jobber really. It was a title shot. And as the blog I read stated it was 18 minutes and the slow parts didn't last too long while there was some solid work and selling. They could have made a lot out of that imho. Scott was bigger but it was somewhat more believable than Brett against Giants. I could easily see them feuding for a long program.
      I was certainly over Hulk Hogan being over for most of the things he did after WM6. I enjoyed re-watching WM4 recently and that was probably the only time it seemed like the guy he saved or upstaged was actually grateful. I think the look on Randy's face that night, when he wrestled four times to win the belt, seemed genuinely grateful. I didn't detect any of his usual paranoia about Miss Elizabeth. They all seemed like friends and were happy for each other. I think that moment and the buildup to it was what made me enough of a wrestling fan to purchase several WWF and NWA / WCE pay per views over the next several years.

    I remember being in the audience of WrestleMania 10 when Yoko was about to Banzai drop Bret. I was shouting, "No, not that! Anything but.. "and that was when Yoko lost his balance. For me, I got into WWE wrestling because of Bret. He had this genuineness about him, his matches were engaging, and he didn't need to be huge in size to convince me. I've met Bret personally many times from 1994-2022. The first time I met him, he proved to be a warm, sincere person and still does. I never felt uncomfortable around him. I can see why Bret was good at working with others--he wasn't full of himself and his sincerity gave him a professional work ethic. Thanks very much for this upload!

    I really liked the match between Bret Hart and Yokozuna at Wrestlemania IX. Bret himself wrote that they shortened it due to Yoko being gased out. But still up until that point it's a good match. Certainly one of the first times that a "small" wrestler was about to beat an oversized monster in WWF. Before that only the big guys (Hogan, Warrior, André, Savage to a degree) could defeat the monster heals. Plus until that point Yoko was rarely put down to the ground. So when Hart took him down to the mat that was something.

The Hart foundation was always a good tag team that was over as heels or faces. The Hitman was cool,calm and collected and was one of the 90's ultimate good guys and he was a great wrestler. • @williamferraro6581

    The booking for WM9 all around was a mistake. It would have been fine to have Bret lose to Yoko, then keep the feud going til Summerslam and have him win it back, but the Hogan thing killed it and the rest of the card was nothing but heels going over. Can’t program an audience to expect the good guys to win on PPV then go the complete opposite direction in one night lol. For anyone who thinks Bret wasn’t a draw, you’re only considering the U.S. market. Bret was the first true international draw WWF had as champion. Him and Bulldog sold out Wembley in front of 90,000 people for an IC title match. Wrestling was dead in the U.S. from 91-96, didnt matter who was champ. Hogan, Macho Flair, Bret, Shawn, Diesel, Yoko - they all got big runs with the title during this era and numbers kept getting worse and worse. The talent was fine, the business model was not. Fans were ready for edgier content long before 97/98, and that’s reflected in the popular movies, music and television of the time. Grunge and shock rock, Tarantino movies, NYPD Blue, Jerry Springer, Beavis and Butthead - the teenage to college demo was already being fed edgy adult content early in the 90s and it took wrestling half a decade to catch up.

    Even back in the day, I thought that putting the belt on Hogan was a step backwards. Bret nor Shaun really had anyone pass the torch, they also didn’t have any credible heels. Hogan benefited from having the best from the territories to work with, in Brett’s first run, most of these guys had gone. People that had potential as heels were made faces, like Razor and Nash. Yoko put too much weight on. Lex was worse on the mic than Bret or Shaun and definitely wasn’t up to scratch in the ring. Vince needed to build stars and it took a long time to do that, I think unfortunately Bret and Shaun were used mainly to help build them.

      @jamief1263 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @n_the_illest yeah the quality of the in ring wrestling actually went up from the Hogan era, difference is they had no stars. Ted Dibiase was so good at working the crowd he had people cheering Virgil like he was a mega star, they needed heels like that. Bret lost to Backlund in a screw job finish and then Backlund lost it to Diesel shortly after in a short squash match on the MSG house show. Bret said the same thing about how Andre like guys to work with him. Mauling him, doing all the running and offence and just selling the hell out of the head-butt and hip-toss. It's also very wise like he said. You don't want a completely gassed Yoko coming down with his giant thigh onto your head on the leg-drop or a gassed Andre getting too close with the piano-elbow. If you look a marathon runners by comparison (people who have stamina to the maximum) they are just skin and bones. There isn't an ounce of fat (dead weight) on them. You can't afford to carry any dead weight if you're going to carry it for a long time.

    Hulk Hogan admits it was his idea to Vince McMahon to win the WWF Title right after Yokozuna beat Bret Hart at WrestleMania IX. The plan was to originally have Yokozuna have a long term run as Champion after WrestleMania IX, that plan changed the weekend of the show. Bruce Pritchard revealed after WrestleMania IX they had a European Tour coming up, & Hogan was planning to leave Wrestling after King Of The Ring 1993 (where he dropped the title back to Yokozuna), so WWF used that tour to promote it as Hulk Hogan's farewell tour, & felt it was best to have Hulk Hogan tour Europe with them as the Champion.
    I'm afraid Bret has his facts mixed up here a little bit. Hogan was never in talks with WCW during that time. Hogan knew he wasn't gonna be around long after WrestleMania IX. Hulk Hogan was planning to focus on Movies & Acting after WWF King Of The Ring 1993. Hogan didn't have talks with WCW till 1994, where he ultimately signed with them. I do believe Bret Hart saying Hogan lied to him when he told him "I'll be happy to return the favour to you". Kinda hard for Hogan to "return the favour" to Bret when he knows he's not sticking around after King Of The Ring 1993! lol
