    People wonder why Bret comes off as so miserable and jaded
    He did so many great things in his career, but whenever he does anything in public, all anyone ever wants to talk about are the 3 worst things that ever happened to him: Screwjob, Owen Hart, and Goldberg.
    How could he not be miserable and jaded?

      I think regarding the Screw job, Bret has come to terms with it in some way, at least from what I've heard from him. I remember hearing him say that having to come to terms with it was like letting go of a big bag of rocks. Yet regarding Goldberg and Owen, I can't say that I'd blame him for how he feels. Goldberg ended Bret's career in one fell swoop and how Owen died was tragic. I lost my sister to unnatural causes so in some way, I can relate to the emotional pain--I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

    X pac explains this the best. Bret Hart was really serious about his wrestling career and not everyone understood that because wrestling was a work. But coming up in the business and his Dad was a promoter it was different.

      I heard Sean(Waltman, aka Xpac) say that the Screwjob was a work. So what was wrong with Bret taking pride in his career? I'd felt like asking him if he was physically there when it happened or involved in it in some way. Otherwise, I'm not fully sure that a statement like that carries merit. Someone asked Marty Jannetty about whether he thought it was a work--he was already gone from WWE. He answered, "I don't know because I wasn't there." It's interesting how ppl can make statements with limited bases.

      sorry he's been nothing but inconsistent and I consider him the best of all time. It was about Canada, then it wasn't and just about Shawn, then he'd drop the belt even TO shawn just not in Canada, then it was about dropping the belt to Austin on RAW etc, the inconsistencies go on and on. As a world champion in the biggest promotion in the world you simply cannot control or dictate the conditions of a world recognized title loss. Bret absolutely, unequicoally wanted to do a famous vacation of the title speech and leave on his terms. you simply can't do that when reigning world recognized champion during a feud between the two biggest promotions within the sport.

      @@patriceaqa288 thank u for taking the time to answer. If i am not mistaken, bret had a clause in his then contract with WWF in which it said bret had a degree of creative control. He mentioned on numerous occasions (including his book) how he was willing be put aside personal difference with HBK, be a professional and drop the belt to him. It was HBK's response that made him think otherwise. bret was willing to drop the belt to anyone but Shawn as a result of that. i mean i understand where vince was coming from, especially after medusa throwing the WWF belt in a trash can on live television. vince had to protect his own company. it was just a shitty situation through and through.

    I've listened to Bret talk about the Screwjob. I'm glad that he came to terms with it. I heard him say something to the effect of it being like letting go of a big bag of rocks. When my friend and I saw him in 1998 shortly after he came to WCW, Bret showed that he was glad to see us, yet it was obvious that there was lingering sadness from what happened. Of course, WCW didn't know what to do with him and sadly things took a turn for the worse. I've met Bret many times between 1994-2012 and from the first time, I developed the utmost respect for him. He's proven to be a kind and sincere person with a fighting spirit. Thanks for this upload.

In his WWF documentary he says it had 'nothing to do with Canada it was about personalities and respect.' in his biography he says he wanted to lose to Austin on RAW. In a 2000 interview he said he'll drop it to anyone anywhere EXCEPT to Shawn if IN Canada, 'I'll drop it the following night to Shawn or anyone, just let me get through this weekend and keep my respect in my home country.' Which one is it??????? Ultimately it's glaringly apparent Bret just wanted to vacate the title and leave on HIS terms.

      @@patriceaqa288 Uh, what? Everything you just typed up basically verifies everything he said.
      He's been consistent that he would drop it to anyone else, even Shawn, but not in Canada.
      Canada wasn't the only factor, and what he was willing to do and what he would've preferred don't have to be the same thing. He can WANT to to drop it to Austin and still be WILLING to drop it to Shawn. I doubt he ever wanted to give Shawn that satisfaction, despite willing to do it because that's how the business works.
      Dropping it in Canada doesn't have to be the only factor either.
      Considering he isn't the one who dishonoured his contract, he's right to have wanted to leave on his own terms. But he never had any intention of leaving with the belt and there was months of preparation that could've gone into him dropping the title to someone else or in a diffferent location. I don't see how him vacating the title would've been bad for Vince either. Bret would've got what he wanted, Vince would've got what he wanted, the fans still would've seen HBK vs Hitman. Everything about this is Vince's fault.

    • @patriceaqa288
      @patriceaqa288 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@markobighead3173 You are not listening. Bret didn't want to lose to Shawn and he didn't want to lose in Canada. Shawn was their next champion. He's NOT consistent. The following two statements 100% contradict each other 'if you want me to drop the belt I'll drop the belt just NOT in Canada.' (Hitman Hart Wrestling with Shadows) 'Survivor series and the issue with the belt had NOTHING to do with Canada God knows I'd already lost there how many times.' (WWE documentary Hitman) So which one is it? 'I'll drop it to Shawn if he puts me over first as a mark of respect.' (post summerslam 1997) 'It's ok I don't need to beat Shawn I just want to leave Canada with the belt so I can leave in a nice way.' Vince asked Bret point blank in a last ditch effort on audio tape 'What do you wanna do today?' When Bret put his foot down that he can't lose this match. Bret made it clear 'I wanna go in do my speech and forfeit the title. Vince's response 'Ok whatever you want.' There was no turning back then for Vince. No wrestler has EVER behaved like that when their contract is up and they are the world recognized champion. I don't agree with the screwjob but Bret put himself in that situation at least 50% of the blame is on him. How could Vince even be sure Bret would turn up on RAW? What if he turned up on monday and demanded he give a speech and not lose a match??? Bret has never been consistent, it either IS or isn't about Canada, you can't give 4 answers to the same question

It still counts. You can't just make up what counts and what doesn't count. Triple Threat. Bret VS Shawn VS Taker. Shawn took the pin CLEAN. So..
    He already proved he WOULD and DID lose to Bret when they were both top stars. I understand where Bret is coming from. I do. Because an answer like that would piss anybody off.
