Another spot on analysis, Ren. I find myself returning to the same themes that have always interested me in my writing. I also find that when I discover a new topic of interest, I will actively try to see how it might relate to other topics in my mental inventory. It's deeply satisfying when a connection ultimately reveals itself, and these connections often fuel my creativity.
Yes, a thousand times, yes. I often think of what you describe as "verticality" in terms of a circle, or cycles of interaction with an idea. You work with a concept, you spool it out, maybe you let it lie fallow for a while, but very often you return to that same set of intellectual or artistic concepts and themes periodically over a period of many years, if not a lifetime.
Weaving through your life. Warp is vertical. Weft is the pattern of days that swiftly shuttle and use the warp as a frame and batten the weft and shuttle back across. The blanket is your life.
Interesting concept. I can see this - also why we often get called autistic. Even though most of us aren't - although we can be both INFJ AND autistic (in which case it intensifies the INFJ-ness)
Yes we are very connected to a specific theme that expands as we grow. All thoughts, activities, and life choices relate directly to the theme chosen and stem from it, always.
When I was doing my studies in community college, I had a professor tell me that I was incredibly holistic when it came to my philosophy. Mind you this man was a Renowned Psychologist in his field, and it meant a lot coming from him about that. I completely agree that my mind tends to focus on one thing at a time, and then connect little bits of pieces of that thing over time
You got me at the last part. When I was studying philosophy, I grew a bit mad that some of those philosophies I couldn't integrate into my life. That was until I found Cynicism, I really liked how their philosophy was a "show don't tell" type and that there was alot of hilarious stories of Diogenese (I kinda admire him for his dedication on his world views). But I found that Cynicism often blamed others for participating in society and refused to work on themselves and I realized that I love societal comforts and being around people. Through Cynicism I found Stoicism though and its a philosophy that I can fully embrace since it helps me be strict with myself but kind towards others, is easy to implement in my life and they have core values that we follow as well. Though while studying Stoicism, We often ask or see a pattern of "what is virtue?" And Thats what also keeps me engaged (personally that is). Personally I think our intelligence is like an onion, we have layers. 😂
There was someone who tried to tell me that they were like me, they were in a position to need to build rapport to achieve their goal. Within a few minutes of broaching a subject I find near and dear, they begin to show affinity towards something that even a five year old would point out the contradiction. Unless you use the information to reform how you interact with the world, you cannot claim to be anything like me.
Did you even try to point out the contradiction and have a discussion about the persons mistaken conclusion? Perhaps they simply had not thought the situation all the way through or had a different viewpoint or opinion...that IS still allowed after all 🙌🏼 How do you KNOW 💯 that you are ABSOLUTELY 💯 correct in all ways about this supposed subject that "even a five year old could see the contradictions"... What was the subject??? Perhaps you should've asked the person some questions to clarify instead of making assumptions? Notice that i make no assumptions as to your truthfulness or impartiality as to the sequence of events? I simply asked if you did or did not perform certain actions? I did not attach good/bad to your description of events. Merely asking for clarification. Perhaps in the future you can ask for clarification instead of jumping to conclusions about what someone may or may not know or be thinking... You WILL be surprised if you open your heart and mind to the opportunity to view things from different perspectives 🙏🏼
Me and my infp gf run into communication difficulties sometimes because when prompted to analyze and offer an opinion on a topic her first impulse is to self reference ie make it personal to her and her values in order to evoke how she may feel about it. I have learned that what i do in the same situation is something like the opposite. For me to feel comfortable responding my first instinct is to try and view the issue from the loftiest of heights thus attempting to divest myself from how it would or does affect me if at all. In fact the less it affects me, the more detached i can be from it, the more comfortable i feel responding. And so from this penultimate bird's eye view i try to see it from as many perspectives as possible, a veritable kaliedoscope of conceptual, teleological, and scrutinizing takes on the issue at hand, with the goal being to distill the essence down to an answer that i feel is authentic although rarely is it ever complete, or definitive. We love our open endedness dont we?😂 So i suppose it's about distance. She needs self refer while i need to divest in order for either of us to give what we consider to be an authentic answer.
I learned three years ago I am an INFJ and what that means. Since then along with many other books on the subject I have read both of yours. They are excellent and I would recommend them as a pair. Two very different books. High level INFJ observations and theory in the first and in the second book, assention to a more spiritual INFJ using concepts from the first. Thanks Renaud. BTW...love the outdoor (and change) of scenery!
Yep. After 14 years im still exploring other facets of interest that relate to a single central belief as I look to how they lend credence to that philosophy. It's fascinating to listen to you Renaud. Always enlightening.
I understand the concept, and I like it. I find that I am both, in that I have many varied interests in areas that (at least at first glance) appear to be entirely unrelated. But each of those interests I dive deep into. Law, Psychology, Philosophy to Mechanics, Construction, Heavy Vehicles, a Variety of Sports, Landscaping/Gardening, History/Anthropology and so many more.... but it's always a personal journey of understanding the subject, never so much about the social/team aspects although that's present in obvious applications.
I was thinking about the vertical/horizontal dichotomy the other day. Modernism, or modern art I see as being an intellectually vertical tradition. Whereas Postmodernism is an intellectually horizontal school of thought. I was thinking about this during the Ben Shapiro jubilee, where he had trouble debating the young man. Shapiro was coming at the debate from a vertical perspective, and the young man from a horizontal perspective. Ben didn't know how to force the young man into a vertical debate, and therefor lost the debate. I would have been able to force the other person into a vertical debate.

I generally paste this explanation to loosely describe the difference on how introverts think opposed to extroverts.
Quality vs Quantity.

Vertical thinker? Horizontal thinker? Judging by your image on the screen you must be a diagonal thinker.
