I take my Gen4 Pajero down some pretty decent tracks and the beach never has a problem 4low, rear dif lock, lift, rock slider bash plates and it goes plenty of places.
We bought a 2010 Pajero about 6 months ago. It's our family's daily driver, and we do heaps of camping trips in it. When we first got it, I was worried it wasn't a 'proper 4WD'.. as we've previously owned a Hilux, Navara, and an 80 series we took around Australia. Now, we absolutely love the Pajero! We've done some pretty gnarly tracks, following mates in beefed up Patrols n cruisers etc, and its performance has been just awesome. I'm blown away at where this stock as a rock little beast can go. Super comfy daily driver and very capable off road. The wife n kids love it, and I'm totally falling in love with it to. In the process of doing a few sensible mods on her now (2" lift, snorkel, roof rack, awning, spotties, bullbar +winch and dual battery system).. team Pajero 🙂👍
I have never owned a Pajero, but I also never understood why people don't rate them off-road. Seen plenty in action and they easily get it done, while the owners are cruising around in way more comfort than most of us. Then they drive home on the highway in quiet comfort. I think maybe those Pajero people are the ones that have it all figured out.
Absolutely melted my heart.... this is why I love you guys..... you use what fame you have gained not for self wealth but to help others... amazing awesome job y'all did......
Good advice. Years ago, I owned a Series III Land Rover diesel. It was noisy and slow and I loved it. After moving up into the mountains, I was driving in snow and ice in the winter and a lot of mud and slush at other times. I fitted secondhand Salisbury diffs and locks. For around 4K, including the purchase, I had a vehicle that did everything I wanted.
I bought a brand new Wrangler JK 3 years ago. I fell in love with it because the private dealer had put 33" tyres, AEV wheels, AEV bumper and WILD grill on it. I insisted I wanted a 4" lift before I took it home but the dealer (surprisingly) told me to go and have fun and then come back if I wanted any extras. All I've done since is fit new lights and a Warn winch and it still astounds me what this thing goes through mainly thanks to the amazing tyres.

I would love to see a video on how you guys properly prepare for water crossings, other than the obvious snorkel. To go one step further, the differences between preparing a petrol vs preparing a diesel. Thanks guys, keep the great videos coming!!!
Great video boys, the point on power makes me think of a great way to think about power and torque. Power determines how hard you'll hit the brick wall, torque will determine how for you'll punch through it. Go for torque improvements everytime, power will get you further into trouble but torque will help get you out

@@peterleitch7514 As a Sales Rep who travels ALL over QLD, doing mainly highway kilometres, I used to consistently get 8.5 L/km out of my 200Kw Toyota Aurion, but can only manage 10.2 L/km out of a current 2 ltr TD Amarok. Diesel economy???????
We called them Samurais here but I too started there. Flipped the suspension to the top of the axles and it took 10.5x31s. Lockers would have made it unstoppable. I wish I still had it. Only vehicle I ever drafted in. Since the lifted ones were useless on the highway, one guy put a bigger engine in his and could go 65 mph so he would lead and the rest of us would draft two feet off the bumper of the vehicle in front so we could go that fast on the highway. It required paying attention.
i dont know about worst mistake or best mod. but the best advice i was givin by a good mate of my fathers who has been 4wding for over 30 years was: its ok to have a go, but if you dont feel ready for it, turn around and try again another day. theres always more glory to be had in trying again later then breaking/rolling a vechile. second piece of advice he gave me was: diff locks and a winch are there to get you out of trouble not in it, be mindful of where your going before you engage them.
Great advice, like lock in hubs and shackle straps beforehand. When your not 100% sure your got that obsical covered~technically and/or expererience wise.
Less power = more traction. Simple. I had a '65 LR Series 2A and I outran modern 4x4's on the tougher trails, simply because it had good articulation and zero power. The 2.25 Petrol 4cyl made a whopping 55kw when it left the factory :) Taught me A LOT about wheeling
Graham THANK YOU! for bringing up the power obsession. It drives me crazy. I'm a technician and I can assure you that the average driving public can't be trusted with the amount of power most stock vehicles make, never mind modifying them. You should see the big diesel trucks over here in North America.
Hey guys, thank you for the time you spend making this video, I'm getting ready my first 4x4 and yes it's not a toyota but it's a well built and I just got my first modes ready for the weekend to install and thanks to my old man that taught me how to work on cars and I can't wait you guys have given me so much to look forward to Thank you and please keep up the good work Regards from South Africa by Kris the Bulgarian 4x4
A mistake I made was a mate and I went out just out 4wding just after it rained the mud would have been 2 foot deep in old rodeo with Bald tires and 2004 Ford Focus. Ended up getting both bogged to the chassis and took forever to get out but some of the best fun we ever had. In saying that the first mod I’d do to any 4wd would be putting a long handled shovel in or on it. Saved us that day and a million other times as well
my biggest fail, detailing engine bay. GQ SWB Patrol. TD42 with 232,000 ish km. Excellent service history, left it at idle..... there was an unknown split in snorkel filter to main air filter, after I finished, jumped in and raised the revs to put it in the garage it sucked the water in and bent no4 rod. 1,2,3,5,6 402 psi compression No 4 went down to 120 psi. 5K repair/rebuild
Superb episode. Cacked myself. But solid tips too. And wow congratz to the fans on Nixon, 4WDers are the best people on this planet. Let's all help out this little legend who as the boys said, is one of us.
I just took a trip myself that I was scared of taking originally and I kept putting it off and putting it off. I’ve spent the last 2 years building it and I still felt scared, but I did it anyways and holy heck. What a trip. I trusted my rig and it did fantastic. I agree with mistake number 2
One of the many mistakes I made was one time I went out driving through puddles in my previous 4wd. I was on my own. It was a manual 2.5l turbo diesel '99 Ford Courier Dual cab ute. As I drove around I found a dirt road with thick bush that had heaps of puddles. I think you all know where this is going. Well... I came across a rather large one and thought to myself "that'll be fun". Anyway, flawed it in, water came over the bonnet and up the windscreen followed by a massive thud as I hit my front bash plates on what I thought was a shallow puddle. Had a quick look around and my ute was mostly under on one side with half my engine submerged. No water got in the engine but I had to get a tow truck out to drag me up the bank of this creek. I wish I could say I learned my lesson from this adventure but I have made equally dumb mistakes since. I forgot to mention, 4wd didn't work (transfer case chain) and I didn't have a snorkel.
I have taken a brand new Stock Nissan Patrol up to Cape York for a 2-week trip with my family a few years ago...I did not even lower my tire pressure since I was such a novice what a great time it was...had one puncture and a tented driver door ( from fooling around) other than that no issues what so ever... therefore as graham says go out there and have a great time you never know when or if you are ever doing it again...for me, it was one of my best memories of owning this Car...
i really wish i hadn't sold our old luxy but back then but back then when it was given to me i was not yet legally allowed to drive here in the Philippines but thanks to you guys even in our province there's a 4wheeling/overlanding community that is starting to bloom
Great 5 bits of entertaining advice guys. I've started driving beach n bush tracks for fun on the way from work, then modified tyres to bigger muddies first. Lift was then needed so I had young sons who helped as I modded in the carport on weekends n holidays. Then because I needed basic recovery gear in gradually more difficult out-country on my own, cb and 2way radios were sensible cause my wife was wondering where I was when late in the bush at dusk. Getting fire wood has always been a great escape. I have only just bought a winch after about 20yrs of moding old 4Bs for fun, it's been waiting to get wire in for a bit as time permits
I couldn’t agree more with jocks comment. I think that way every time a see a 79 series with the 4495kg gvm upgrade that replaces half the chassis and costs nearly $50k. If you have to go to that extreme to make the car fit for purpose you bought the wrong car.
Hello guys long time didnt comment here & For the kid Nixon... Well you guys are amazing wish him the best and hope he gets will soon ... Much of love for you all 4WD24/7 Community✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
I knew immediately you were taking the piss out of us Pajero owners. I also saw some irony in the Rig of the Week having HUGE power in the episode where the boys talk about the mistake of big power in a 4x4!!
I have a Holden frontera, it’s a V6 3.2 L petrol (Isuzu motor actually). It has 29” all terrain tyres on it, and an awning. That’s it. No bull bar, stock suspension, no drawers in the back, no duel battery nor 12v system, no fridge, nothing like that. But it takes me everywhere I wanna go
You guy’s have inspired me to buy my first 4x4 ( 1999 GU Nissan patrol ) currently building it on a budget , hopefully will have her done before next year so I can tour the wa coastline
Lol nice tips, just bought 2nd hand prado (toyo 90 série) and thought about a rear locker as first to save me when I'm stuck. (other hings like bulbar for Winch is not allowed, no crazy outback here)
uhf, lift ,tires prefilter, catch can and breathers a must for all type of 4wding best investment in my opinion, Opus on the way and 12volt on the to do list then ready for anywhere
What you guys said about not waiting to have a " fully setup rig " to get out and about in before you go could not have been more right . I bought into it and was waiting to get my ride all set up to go ... but then thought let's see what a basically stock petrol 80 has . I had put a snorkel and diff breathers on it and had a compressor to do my tyres . Took up an invite for a day in the high country around walhalla and went along as a beginner. That day we tackled some of the tougher tracks in the area did multiple river crossings ( the first went over the hood and the snorkel paid for itself in the first 10 minutes after airing down lol) but other than that , the old 80 went everywhere with no mods on stock rims and all terrains . Showed me I didn't need to wait for all the fruit to just get out amongst it . Still building the old rig up but am also out there in between upgrades . There are a lot of myths about what you need to get out there . My advice now is to get out there and have a crack .

My heart goes out to Nixon, Hope the little fella fights this and never has to go through this again.
I couldn't agree more I've had 3 spinal fusion done in the last 4 years and it changed my family's life so with my next back operation will land me in a wheel chair for Good. We decided to sell the house get a better van and start our lap of Australia my life changed in a big way .
Off road top tip: drive to your abilities not others.
Graham, the only reason you'd be able to get 6ltr/100km economy is because your legs are TOO short to press the loud pedal all the way to the floor!
It’s either that or after a few beers his stories get a bit exaggerated!
Or it sits on the back of a semi trailer until they get to the track film back in the truck again. Out of touch with common people I think .
Can't wait for the dedicated video on Graham's new Dmax build
That’s great advice
Great comment.
Hey guys, thank you for the time you spend making this video, I'm getting ready my first 4x4 and yes it's not a toyota but it's a well built and I just got my first modes ready for the weekend to install and thanks to my old man that taught me how to work on cars and I can't wait you guys have given me so much to look forward to
Thank you and please keep up the good work
Regards from South Africa by Kris the Bulgarian 4x4
wow great job 4wd 24-7 you guys rock, that family has a light of hope thanks to you guys cheers
Best advice join a 4x4 club , keep your eyes and ears open when those that know more are talking 👍
Superb episode. Cacked myself. But solid tips too. And wow congratz to the fans on Nixon, 4WDers are the best people on this planet. Let's all help out this little legend who as the boys said, is one of us.
That is amazing little boy, wish you all the best Nixon. Good job 4WD247!
I just took a trip myself that I was scared of taking originally and I kept putting it off and putting it off. I’ve spent the last 2 years building it and I still felt scared, but I did it anyways and holy heck. What a trip. I trusted my rig and it did fantastic. I agree with mistake number 2
Love the Barra 79! Best thing to ever happen to a 79.
Hey from lake Havasu, Az. USA. 🤠
Great video, liked the q&a. Keep doing these types now and again, awesome! 👍👍
I have taken a brand new Stock Nissan Patrol up to Cape York for a 2-week trip with my family a few years ago...I did not even lower my tire pressure since I was such a novice
what a great time it was...had one puncture and a tented driver door ( from fooling around) other than that no issues what so ever...
therefore as graham says go out there and have a great time you never know when or if you are ever doing it again...for me, it was one of my best memories of owning this Car...
Shorty Vs Sooty around town challenge, case of beer, grocery run ( parking in a tight spot and good organisation) and servo or drive thru stops
Always do a pre-trip check and morning inspections to allow for pro-active maintenance before you have to fix the expensive stuff.
24:45 my old boi winched that 80 out. It happend up at Harvey dam WA.
i really wish i hadn't sold our old luxy but back then but back then when it was given to me i was not yet legally allowed to drive here in the Philippines but thanks to you guys even in our province there's a 4wheeling/overlanding community that is starting to bloom
Love getting a notification in the arvo for a 4WD 24-7 upload!
Well done on the massive tally for Nixon - charity auction on Grahams old Dmax maybe 😉 that would bring in some funds!
No one said “Air compressor” for there first mod 🤷♂️
I Guess it just goes without saying
Hello guys long time didnt comment here
& For the kid Nixon... Well you guys are amazing wish him the best and hope he gets will soon ...
Much of love for you all 4WD24/7 Community✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
Thanks for going back to basics guys. Really appreciate all the info you share!!!
I knew immediately you were taking the piss out of us Pajero owners. I also saw some irony in the Rig of the Week having HUGE power in the episode where the boys talk about the mistake of big power in a 4x4!!
You blokes are good for donating to Nixon
(other hings like bulbar for Winch is not allowed, no crazy outback here)
Definitely going to get me a pcv filter. Was going to get a provent for my diesel forester, but now I'll go the direction plus!
uhf, lift ,tires prefilter, catch can and breathers a must for all type of 4wding best investment in my opinion, Opus on the way and 12volt on the to do list then ready for anywhere
I thought I was watching GMBN’s dirt shed show for a min. Great show guys.
Good to see these two back again, the original and the best hosts
Not the original, and not the best. But still bloody brilliant! 👍
Roothy is a weapon
how bloody good is that guys! everyone in this comminty should be bloody proud of themselves! well fuckin done
Our first mods were air compressor fridge 12 volt system winch communication
