I get so much push back from people when I tell them I don’t eat sugar, carbs, and processed foods or hydrogenated fats. Just plain old saturated fat and zero carb. It is sometimes easier to tell them that I am fasting for a procedure

The most common comment I get is that "it is too extreme". the most common rebuttal against cutting carbs out, is that "man has been eating carbs for thousands of years", when in fact man has only had grains since agriculture started maybe 10-12 thousand years ago, consumed as larger populations began to grow as urban centers.
The biggest comment against "cutting fruits out of the diet", is that they are natural, and berries are so good for you---but not 365 days per year they aren't, and not tropical fruits year-round.

My doctor's nurse called me today with my lab results (drawn 10/28); nearly every lab was perfect, or well WNL, so I was really happy. Dr., however, feels my cholesterol is "too high" at 232, and wants me on a statin, which I flatout refused to let him prescribe. I told the nurse that I'll continue to eat the way I'm eating (primarily "clean" keto, absolutely no sugars whatsoever, and high in good fats), and we'll see in six months where my lab values stand.
I've been listening to you for the last two days, and to Dr. Sten Ekberg for the last nine weeks, and I know that 232 for a cholesterol value is not high; yes, the HDL needs to come down about 2.5 points, but I've been eating clean only for nine weeks, and have a multitude of issues to overcome and let my body heal. It can't heal 67 years of wrong eating in just 67 days, but the improvements are so huge, even a lay person like me can see them clearly!
I'm a retired unit clerk, 30 years in a good hospital in northern lower Michigan, so worked closely with many doctors---not one of whom seems to know that changing one's diet from the S.A.D. to a low carb, high quality fat diet would heal nearly all their patients.
Hmmm---now that I said that, maybe they DO know that, after all.....because how would they then get their fees?

New subscriber here. I have been consistently ketocarnivore for a little over a year, but not a stranger to the low carb lifestyle (former dr Atkins patient). In just 2 days, after a terrible relapse, I finally understand why I have relapsed time and again over the past 20 years. You cover issues that are not addressed by others--things that are specific to carb addicts. I am grateful for your videos. I have, as of yesterday, adopted the sequential eating (never realized how much I had been eating before) and fat fortifying. I have also decided that there will be no more look-alike foods baked in my home. Thanks. A million thanks.

I appreciated hearing this! It confirmed why I went against my doctor’s disapproval of eating a low carbohydrate diet. I am 40 pounds overweight and my inflammation scores are high. My new functional medicine doc could not understand why numbers were still high after prescribing fish oil pills, detox pills, NDT, DIM, bioidentical estrogen, and metformin. I have two older siblings who died early from complications related to diabetes (T1D, T2D). I decided to test lowering the carb intake until my next blood test and my blood markers showed a stark improvement. My doc thought my body was finally responding to what she had prescribed. I told her I changed my diet. I only took metformin for about a month into my low carb diet. I pray hearing the truth spoken in this manner will forever change how I view food. God bless you in your medical service to others.

Thank you Dr. Cywes for highlighting the deleterious role that polyunsaturated oils have on our cells. I am glad to see more doctors, such as you and Dr. Cate Shanahan, are focusing on this. The keto/low carb community has done a good job slowly convincing the public as to the efficacy and safety of the low carb way of eating. Now it is time that we start to focus on polyunsaturated fats - a dietary villain which has, unfortunately, been given the false aura of respectability by years of industry funded propaganda.

Over the last year I had significant problems stemming from the prostate, bladder and kidney. I had pain, bleeding and complications enough that even going to local supermarkets was a problem. I had been 'low carb' or lesser carbs off and on for several years but am a 'sugarholic' and will binge on that. My problems seemed less when I was low carb. Recently I did a ten day fast and my problems cleared up 95%. Wow. After that I ate low carb for a few days then began binging on high sugar foods and all symptoms came back and were extreme, some of the worst they've been. I then did a two day fast and they dropped about 80%. I have continued very low carb for these three days following the fast and again, my problems are down about 95% from the extremely bad point just a week ago. No one can tell me there is not a connection between sugar, carbohydrates, diet, and inflammation.

A strange (but nice) change in my body when I restrict carbs to 30g a day for 5 weeks, is lack of muscle/joint stiffness. I run daily and train in the gym 5 days a week and so stiffness is an accepted condition (I thought) of maintaining a high level of fitness at 51 yrs old. I repeated carb restriction for another 5 weeks, and hey the same response! Also during the interim period, the stiffness returned. I am making a connection between low carb and joint inflammation based on this. Thanks for the videos by the way - lekker.

One thing that is really difficult is avoiding the polyunsaturated fats. For instance, when I go to my work cafeteria for eggs, they spray down the "Pam" (same with anything they make on the grill). I head on over to the salad bar for lunch but turns out every single dressing has it in here. It is even added into soups. Nevermind the fact that they have a long half life and it can take up to 6 months to clear it out of your system. Even Keto foods have a lot of them baked in. For instance Keto bread at Aldi contains polyunsaturated fats. I have seen that steric acid can help clear it.

    • @contrarian604
      @contrarian604 ปีที่แล้ว

I have read that PUFA once in your cell membranes, may take up to three years to clear themselves out. Adding olive oil to your diet will also help clear/crowd out the PUFA, from entering into your cellular structures.

The biggest reason why omega 3's are heavily promoted is because the Standard American Diet is so high in PUFA's (Poly Unsaturated Fatty Acids) which are unnaturally high in Omega 6's. In order to balance that, high levels are Omega 3's are needed. However, if you're eating saturated and monounsaturated fats (as Dr. Cywes is promoting here), the need to boost Omega 3's goes down SIGNIFICANTLY because you're not loading up on bad Omega 6's. If you eat animal fats (saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids), you'll be getting the perfect combination of fatty acids and the perfect ratio of Omega 3/6's in your diet and really no need to worry about getting extra Omega 3's. However, that doesn't mean cod liver and sardines aren't super healthy for you, too! :) They should be a part of a heathy diet, too.
Another concept that is important for those of us that grew up eating too much PUFA's, which are high in Omega 6's... It's super important to balance out our Omega 3/6 ratio now and to also burn off all our stored Omega 6's that we've accumulated over the years in the adipose and visceral fat tissue. We need to get that out of our systems and the sooner the better. Burning that junk off of our body is actually a big reason why some people have problems with low carb eating. It's not the low carb that is the problem, it's that low carb promotes the burning of the excess inflammatory Omega 6 based fats bound up in our tissues.
It's important to just always know you're doing the right thing and to keep your eye on your goal... being healthy and eating whole nutritious foods that help you get there.

I have been eating Keto for over two years. I have lost about 50 pounds. I do not have a thyroid gland due to Hashimoto’s. I have had colon cancer and a heart attack. I was diabetic but a couple months after I started Keto I was able to get off diabetic meds. Lately, to my chagrin, I have started bingeing. I know that is an emotional issue. But I cannot stop and am afraid I will gain all my weight back that I lost. Please help. Statins activated my diabetes. Please do a video on bingeing!!!

I have seen many of your videos and I totally agree that low carb and keto promotes general health. However in this video you said something that surprised me. At around 3 1/2 minutes into the video you say that fiber contributes to inflammation in the gut, leading to colon cancer. I thought that most vegetables (at least the ones without too many carbs) were considered healthy even from a ketogenic point of view. Vegetables have fiber, and I thought this was part of the reason why they are considered healthy, because the fiber feeds the gut bacteria and helps building a healthy gut flora. So could you please elaborate your claim about fiber and inflammation in the gut, to help me understand this better?

Most of it is true but there are genetic variants that can't handle sat fats too well, like apoe 4 or lack of carnitine etc etc. Always listen to your body and if you don't feel well do more research, there is no one fits all diet since you don't know your genetic makeup or lack of nutrients that affect krebs cycle etc
