Great job!! I followed your advise and it worked like a champ. My Bike is a 1300 V Star and the coil was not marked positive or negative, however, you stated the negative post was smaller and that made the difference---nailed it the first time. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. I have successfully installed the same tacho on my XVS1100A Classic (built July 2007) and I would not have been able to do it without your video. The space available to me at the coil was different to your bike but I was able to do my own wiring arrangements and get it hooked up once I had watched your video and knew where everything is situated generally and understood what was necessary for the tacho to operate. I have a good general knowledge of electric circuits but I am not experienced at motorcycles and would not have been able to make a start without your video. It's good to be able to undertake some jobs without having to get a bike mechanic to do it all. Thanks again (PS: The chrome tacho looks good on the bike too...)
love the video and bought same tach. just have to say one thing for others doing this mod.... When you turn on key (esp during test), make sure engine cutoff switch is turned on. The tach will not come on if the engine cut off switch is turned off. doh! Maybe this will save someone else from doing the install twice, lol
Liked your video, especially since I am trying to install the same tach on a 2014 Triumph Bonneville, EFI version. So far no success. Coil does not specify polarity. Have checked all the tach wires for continuity- OK. Battery voltage at 11.4 v. Not sure what effective voltage id. Any thoughts?
Hey I am having trouble. I have the same product and attempting to install it into a 2009 V Start 950. I put the green on Negative COIL. Black on Negative Battery, and both Red and Blue together on Positive COIL. (both on the same Coil). My bike has two coil. But anyway. I turned on the bike and it lights up and the pin went full then back zero. So when I started the engine, the pin moved full to Zero but it was not doing what it is supposed to do. What did I do wrong? By the way, the wires on that product is a 22awg. So I used the 18 AWG to connect them the bike. I dont think that would cause an issue.
Genial, lo monte como indicas en mi dragstar 1100 y funciona perfectamente, solo que la bobina aunque va en el mismo sitio no esta en la misma posicion, pero supongo que sera por el ano de fabricacion o porque mi modelo es el europeo.
So this tachometer will work right out of the box with a single fire ignition system? I noticed the Barron's tachometer is setup for motorcycles with a dual fire ignition system, and it requires using an additional adapter if your motorcycle has a single fire ignition system. Is this tachometer water/weather proof? I think you can find this tachometer on ebay under a different brand name for a HUGE savings when compared to tachometers sold by the dealer, or tachometers with a fancy housing like the one sold by Barron's.
Have the same tach. But I didn't wire power to the coil. I've had a tach short out, and if that happens again, it would have left me stranded by taking the coil to ground. Instead I ran power back to the 10A extra fuse.

Just followed your video to install mine. Many thanks! Went very smoothly thanks to your clear instruction.
Excellent install, very clean and tidy

Liked your video. Well explained. Going to do the same for my 03 Roadstar. Thanks.

I have a 08 650 vstar should this be the same as yours
What are the RPM's at while cruising at 70 MPH? I have an 04 1100 so I'm curious.

No, this is a dual fire tach.

Would it be feasible to put a fuse on the wire from the coil to the gauge?
@@sidevalve337 Yes, you could put a fuse anywhere.
Good Job....I'll do the same, you've saved me some time!!
Thanks for great video 👍
where do you bought this tach ?

You showed more crap other than the ACTUAL wiring.
