That's horrible this beautiful baby bird didn't have any toys or anything colorful in its cage. Birds like colorful toys and objects. Whoever did this to this bird needs to be stuffed in a cage for 20 years.
+Chantell Lovett Hi, when Cyril first came into my care, I too kept his quarantine/recuperation cage quite bare. He had gone for so long without having any toys, they actually frightened him at first, he just didn't know what they were. After a while though, and with patience and care, he got so used to toys that anything he found when he was wandering around the house on one of his walks became a 'toy' :) He loved scrunched up plain paper best I think, even more than shiny things, bless him
+Anne.M. Kenyon aww that is truly remarkable you nursed this baby back to health, comfort and love. You will be blessed for that. I'm glad you knew how to introduce new toys to her and glad she has made an amazing recovery. I rescued my parakeet Baca who recently passed away. My neighbors threw her outside after a failed attempt to feed her to a snake. She had a missing tail, flight feather, and broken bone. After 6 months, she fully recovered. TLC goes a long way😀
Ohhh my word, what cruel, evil neighbours! I am so glad that your parakeet found the gentle grace and love of your healing hands before she passed. While it must have been very hard on you losing her, never lose sight of, and take comfort from the fact that you truly did change her world.
+Anne.M. Kenyon thank you so much for your kind words it helps soothe the pain of losing her. I feel like her little spirit is watching me and I know she would want me to show to other birds and maybe people the same way I showed her. My neighbors purposely bought her from petsmart to feed to that snake. But she survived she was one tough cookie😊
white spider that's how my bird was she can fly all around my house I don't care I take the roof off her cage in the day so she is free to fly all around the house
Birds like cockatiels should never be left alone for long periods of time. They're way too social and intelligent for that. Thank you for taking care of Cyril, he looks like he's a happy and loved bird now.
The all time champions🐶 there are many pets that should actually be left alone most of the time, ex. tarantulas, reptiles and fish. birds and mammal pets require lots of attention and affection, though.
***** bearded dragons do not "love" attention, but they can be trained to tolerate human touch. actually, pets like reptiles and insects should only be held for longer periods of time if it's very important, like if you have to examine them for wounds/diseases, or if you need to move them from one terrarium to another.
This is so so horrible what people do to these poor birds. They are so sweet, so worth loving. And yet people still neglect them. Thank you for taking care of him, this is a beautiful story. God Bless you
May Allah grant you heaven for being the kindest person .... I hope that little sweet cockatiel (I have one of my own) will live happily ever after with you . . . please give him a treat from me.
Simply beautiful. Can't stop crying. I have 5 tiels, 4 of whom were rehomed, and 3 from bad homes like that. Cyril has waited most of his life for someone like you. So happy his last years will be wonderful. It's amazing that he's so loving after that. So wonderful of you to open your heart to this (now) lucky little guy!
I've worked with cockatiels and various other exotic birds for over 5 years, and I literally teared up over the fact that someone would treat a living creature this way. It's horrendous. Glad to know that Cyril is doing well now and and has found such a loving, caring bird parent.
I wept while I watched this video. I'm a lot more judgmental than poor Cyril. The human that neglected this lovely, intelligent creature should be locked up in isolation for the next 20 years.
+Blue Sky If people always sink to the level of acting revenge on others, the human race will never rise from such petty actions. Look at this bird as an example, rather then displaying hatred, the bird is kind and sweet, it seeks no revenge, just love. +rabidruma this is for you too
rabidrumba your comment was one of thee most sensible, and humane I've ever read. much respect to you and I agree completely. I don't know how old you are but that was a very wise thing to say.
This was so sweet💕 We normally always keep our cockatiel's door open (it swings down so she can sit on it and be closer to the light). We only ever close it at night or when we're out of the house, because she hasn't gotten the hang of flying just yet, and we wouldn't want her sitting on the cold tile floor for too long. She's such a sweetheart, ever since we first got her. By the third day after we got her, she already was trusting enough to sit on our hand. Its so upsetting that so many amazing birds that have so much potential for love are treated badly.
Are you freaking serious!? This is the saddest thing I’ve ever FREAKING SEEN!!!!!! Poor tiel!!! Thank you for taking care of him and showing him a better world
I'm sitting here watching this with my sweet li'l tiel all cuddled up to my face sleeping, and now I'm all teary. How lucky Cyril was to have you for a Mommy for those 9 years! What a beautiful boy! ^_^
That's brilliant. Cyril is so lucky to have found you in his golden years. Right now I"m fostering a cockatiel who has been in a cage 18 years, which is how I found your video. And guess what? He's singing to me, and stepping out into his 'front door'. We'll get him out. The saddest thing was when I opened the door, he had absolutely no idea that coming out was even possible. Thanks for this! Made my day
Anne, thank you for this update on Cyril in response to Mel. Knowing that he had 10 years of good life with you makes this story bearable. You are a very special person!! JJ Canada
@@Anne.M.Kenyon You can go to this video on my channel of my 16-yr old parrot th-cam.com/video/pkik5I8qMxY/w-d-xo.html (only pictures), but I add in next week video. I suppose that my 16 yr old parrot nymph is in better condition that your in 20.
It just goes to show that life sucks sometimes even for animals. Thankyou for showing Cyril love and empathy and compassion. Thankyou for being you! I have just lost my favourite cockatiel at the start of 2014. He would have been in his 14th year. Cyrils story made me cry. There should be more people like you on this earth... God bless you and God bless Cyril, Love Eliza and Birds! xxxxxxX
It was my pleasure and privilege to have that little sweetheart in my life for those wonderful years, and you are so right, how they do suffer at the hands of humans.
You are a god sent to this poor little baby. I am in tears at the thought of the suffering of 20 years! Why anyone would buy a bird to lock it in a cage with no toys and no interaction is beyond me! It's cruel and unusual. Bless you are making the last years so full of love.
Thank you for loving Cyril and giving him a better life. It pains me to learn how some people treat their beautiful friends. I don't understand why such people feel the need to 'own' any living creature if they cannot offer them empathy and love.
It brought tears of my eyes. My cockatiel has a pretty similar story. Her owner placed her cage in the laundry zone of the kitchen, alone during all the day but he at least placed some toys for her. She spended 1 year there and has pluckage in consequence. I´m glad that the owner understood that there was no point to keep her there and sold her (everything explained to me by him). I think he isn´t a bad person, he loved her just that he doesn´t knows how to treat those beings and that ignorance creates pain to them. She wasn´t tamed when she arrived, now she is an adorable sweet baby who only seeks love. Thanks for taking care of Cyril and give him the life he deserved, he must to be taking care of you from the heaven.
I had a cockatiel named Andy from the time I was in the fourth grade until the time my daughter was in the fourth grade! He lived with me for over 25 years and I loved him very much. I can't imagine treating a bird without love--they are such loving little creatures. I have a conure now, and he's my baby, always with me. I'm hoping to rescue some older birds soon, now that we have the room and ability to. Thank you for bringing love to Cyril's life in the time you had with him! Thank you for sharing him with us.
Thank you for giving this beautiful Cockatiel a new life. Breaks my heart hearing his story. I love animals specially birds and have a cockatiel that has been with me for four years after someone got rid of him. They are wonderful pets:)))))
Just stumbled on this. Thank you for saving such birds. I am not animal fanatic, but how this bird has been treated is incredibly cruel! Amazing that this bird did not pluck himself! Gorgeous bird!
Thank you for rescuing this very deserving Cockatiel. Thankfully there's decent people like you who's hearts are filled with love and compassion. These poor little creatures thrive on love and companionship. How anyone could deprive these little darlings of loving care is totally beyond me. What kind of person could not recognize the sadness this bird endured for two decades ? Im actually planning on rescuing a similar Cockatiel living a miserable life. He's in his late teens and NEVER has been allowed out of his cage. He doesn't know it yet but his little life is about to turn into Cockatiel Paradise ! Im going to give him everything he always did deserve his entire life ! His final days, however long they may be, will be filled with fresh air snd sunshine. He will be showered with love and attention.. He will be made to feel important and receive dignity for the first time in his precious little life. All I want is to see his face smiling and him knowing someone truly loves him for as long as he shall live.
Thank you for rescuing that sweet soul. It may only be one animal at a time for rescuers, and one soul.will not dent the thousands of those needing rescue, but to your cockatiel you are all the difference in his world. If everyone in the world saved one soul imagine how beautiful we could be.
I cried tears of pain for his first 20 years. Seeing how you've improved his life makes me cry tears of joy. Thanks for saving Cyril. I love cockatiels, Joker and Coach beyond words.
god bless you Anne for giving your time and love to gain this little treasures trust. Thank you for giving him what he should have had all along. Tears of sadness stream from my face in anger for the inhumane person who thought having a bird involved sticking it in a cage, and tears of joy that he now has found you. Love light and blessings to you ,x x x x x
Ya people need to stop treating birds like decorations and getting tiny cages to look cute... The video here is sad but most people can't even understand the gravity of being locked up for 20 years. Nobody deserves to be locked up even with the prison system its more humane to give the death penalty than to force someone to live a meaningless life in a cage.
There is no such animal as a “cage bird.” All caged birds were either captured or bred in captivity. In the wild, these beautiful beings are never alone. If they become separated from their flockmates for even a moment, they call wildly to them. They preen each other, fly together, play, and share egg-incubation duties. Many bird species mate for life and share parenting tasks. The evidence of their close companionship and concern for one another is plain to see. Unfortunately for birds, the very qualities that we find admirable and fascinating about them-their brilliant colors, speech capabilities, intelligence, playfulness, and loyalty-have made them the third most popular type of animal companion in the U.S. It’s estimated that 40 million birds in the U.S. are kept caged and often improperly cared for-bored, lonely, and a long way from their natural homes. Many people buy birds on impulse and don’t have a clue how much time, money, and energy is needed to care for them on a daily basis. Birds are as messy and destructive as puppies-something irresponsible breeders and retailers often won’t explain to customers. And unlike puppies, birds continue this behavior for 15 to 75 years. Additionally, birds can be extremely loud and demanding and sometimes severely bite their caretakers. Because most customers aren’t prepared for an animal companion who is as curious, needy, and demanding as a 2-year-old child, countless birds spend their entire lives trapped inside a cage that’s too small in the corner of a living room, basement, or garage, unable to use or stretch their wings and deprived of the vital companionship of other birds. Like dogs on chains, caged birds crave freedom and companionship, not the cruel reality of forced solitary confinement for the rest of their very long lives. Driven mad from boredom and loneliness, caged birds often become aggressive, neurotic, and self-destructive. They pull out their own feathers, mutilate their skin, incessantly bob their heads and regurgitate, pace back and forth, peck over and over again at cage bars, and shake or even collapse from anxiety. Even if a previously caged bird comes into a home in which he or she is allowed a rich, active life, this behavior persists and is extremely difficult to extinguish. The Truth About Bird Suppliers Just as there are puppy mills, there are now enormous bird factories where breeders warehouse thousands of parrots and other exotic birds and remove their offspring in order to sell them to pet stores. These birds are frequently confined to dirty, dimly lit cages, where they are unable to fully stretch their wings. There is no federal legislation to protect birds in the pet trade, and successful prosecution of cruel or negligent bird breeders is unlikely under most state anti-cruelty laws. A parrot-breeding operation in Washington state-which a veterinarian described as a “concentration camp” and where, according to news sources, birds “lived in cold, wet, filthy conditions for years”-remains open and continues to raise birds for the pet trade. The same lack of caring has been reported at breeding facilities across the country. Disease Is Widespread Bird-breeding factories often breed communicable diseases, too, from proventricular dilatation disease (PDD)-the symptoms of which include depression, weight loss, and constant or intermittent regurgitation-to papillomavirus infection, salmonellosis, giardiasis, and psittacine beak and feather disease. Sick birds can give humans or other pet birds chlamydiosis (psittacosis), salmonellosis, E. coli infections, tuberculosis, giardiasis, and other illnesses associated with bacteria and fungi. Smuggling Is Common Wild-caught parrots are also prime commodities in the multibillion-dollar illegal wildlife trade. Hardly a week goes by without another story of a bird smuggler who was caught with parrots in the air vents of his or her car, of small parrots being smuggled in jacket pockets, or of any of hundreds of other usually deadly schemes to import these valuable birds illegally. While many smugglers are caught, most are not, so thousands of uninspected-and frequently sick and terrified-birds enter the companion bird trade each year. When the Novelty Wears Off When the birds who seemed so cute and lovable in pet stores turn out to be noisy, messy, and demanding of people’s attention, many are later abandoned, and few live out their natural life spans. About 85 percent of parrots are resold, given away, or abandoned within two years of being purchased. If they are ignored, they suffer in isolation and may become even noisier, more aggressive, or more despondent. Caged companion birds are typically not native to the areas where they reside. They cannot be released simply by opening a window and letting them fly away (which would be considered a crime of abandonment in most states). Without the proper climate, food sources, and habitat, escaped or released captive birds become prey for free-roaming cats and wildlife or are doomed to suffer lingering deaths because of exposure, starvation, or injuries. Responsible rescue groups, animal shelters, and sanctuaries can only place or care for a small percentage of these unwanted birds. To complicate matters further, some alleged “sanctuaries” are actually thinly disguised breeding colonies or hoarding situations in which birds are housed in extremely crowded conditions, receive minimal care and attention, and may even be sold back into the pet trade. If you or a friend have a lot of time and resources and remain determined to have a bird companion, please adopt a homeless one from a shelter or rescue group, but only after fully researching their dietary, behavioral, and other needs. You are in for a great deal of work! Buying birds from pet shops contributes to a horrible cycle of disease and abuse, so to appreciate birds without buying and caging them, consider creating your own backyard sanctuary.
It is a real nightmare. It is like torturing a child, a conscious life locked, It hurts me bad when I think about this. This one thing cannot be forgiven.
I showed this to my cockatiel to try to tell it to be thankful.... But that cockatiel in the video, it's just so sad to watch it and learn what it been through, I'm glad it has a new owner and got what it always longed for!
The story you've shared of Cyril's life with you is both wonderful and touching. The story of people with hearts such as yours is even more beautiful to behold!
Thank you for giving Cyril the life he deserved. It angers me the conditions some people subject animals too. I am so glad you could make a difference in 1 little birds life. I have 4 rescue Tiels myself , each with their own sad little story. People like you are what give me a sliver of hope for humanity as a whole. Take care and Thanks again for making a difference :)
I just recued a similar bird who spent just 10 weeks in a tiny cage with no toys, the owner did not want him so now I have her in a large cage with toys and he gets loads of fuss and let out regularly also has other birds for company thank God she never suffered like this on did well done for saving him.
+Nic Reilly How wonderful! Did you get this little darling bird Nic? I would love to know how things are going. Thank you SOOOOOOOOO much for taking in an older bird! I would love to be friends with you, and ALL the bird/animal lovers on here. My FB is facebook.com/Anne.M.Kenyon Please join me, and let me know you are from here :-)
I sure did and I ended up going back to the sspca and getting a buddy for (her) as she was acting very lonely and now the little poops dont want to know me because they have each other, but i defo prefer them having their own kind as healthy company. xx
Anne, what a beautiful soul you are and the embodiment of compassion in the rescues you do. It cuts me to the bone to see/know of cruelty to any animal species. I try so hard to give my birds the best environment I can afford. You are a blessing to all the lives, big and small you have touched. Bless you!
It's so sad, how could anyone do this to such a beautiful bird. I miss my bird Sunny. He lived to be 32 years old. He was mostly blind, had arthritis and was a grouchy old man but he had been apart of my family since before I was born. I had looked into his cage six months ago and found he had finally passed in his sleep. He had a grand life. He had been on many adventures and we all loved him.
I have a cockatiel his name is hope. He has had 3 owners, first: he was rescued from a backyard, it was raining hard, he was on the ground, the old man lead him inside, they kept him. Soon the man died, then their next door neighbor took care of him because the lady couldn't. The lady died so the neighbor took him in. The neighbors daughter asked us if we wanted him, yes we did. I now take care of him everyday.
Anne, Thank you for giving this bird a new loving home. The only time our birds are in their cages is when they are sleeping at night. They spend the day exploring our house or just hanging out on the couch. We have carpeting on the stairs and they actually love to climb the stairs and explore the second floor of our house. Whoever had Cyril locked up for twenty years missed out on one of lives great pleasures. There is no greater joy, than when one of our birds makes his way over to my wife or myself for some gentle head scratching and human time.
Tears are pouring down my face. You are a wonderful and kind person for rescuing him, he is a precious little creature. I rescued 2 Cockatiels who were living in the back of a warehouse in a tiny cage for 10 years with no human love or socialization. They live in a large cage now with the door always opened so they can roam, climb and explore. They can't fly because they're wings are crippled so I have carpeted ramps so when they fall (and they always fall) they can walk back up to their cage for food and water. Bless you for loving Cyril.
He's beautiful! ❤️ Thank you for taking good care of him, for letting him see the world in a different way. God bless you Anne! I have two cockatiels myself, I let them out of the cage as much as possible, let them fly around the house, beautiful birds they are. I've never heard of such a dark hearted human that would do such thing to a poor little bird.
I remember watching this video a few months ago when I was thinking of getting a cockatiel that I'd grown really close to. But I didn't know anything about birds bat all at the time. This video, along with others, set my mind on learning about his needs, finally getting him, and making sure he was as spoiled and happy as he could be. But I do admit that, after watching this again, I realise that the only time he's in his (huge) cage is when I'm not at home, or it's bed/nap time. My Noah's life was made better from what I learned from Cyril.
That is just wonderful to know Ariane Ellis, thank you so much for sharing that with me. It means that Cyrils first 20 years of neglect were not in vain if his story has helped educate people, and therefore helped improve the life of even just one little bird like your Noah. Share what you have learned, show others how you provide and care for Noah, and let others learn from you, as you learned from Cyril. Then maybe, one day, those people too will pass on what they have learned and the ball will keep on rolling
The story really made me cry, i always wanted to have one of those cockatiels...they're cute, funny animal.. Thank you for taken care cyril anne. Thank you for sharing the video. God bless you anne..
how did u come to have him?i swear there should be a law where people need to get a licence in order to own a pet! birds get treated worse than cats & dogs coz they're not given any freedom most of the time & they're dismissed as unintelligent :(
Soso Ironically birds as parrots and cockatiels are more intelligent than dogs. And i don't think you need a special license to keep a bird, at least here at my place you don't even need to pay taxes, which we do for our dogs...
+Werewolf Engine Driver what country do u live in? Taxes for dogs?lol. I just meant it would be nice if governments made a law requiring people to go thru some kind of psych evaluation & a compulsory course to learn about the pet they want to buy. Just like when a couple wants to adopt a kid. It would save so many animal lives :( & animals r more disadvantaged than children coz they cant speak or call some abuse hotline
i cried watching this how can humans be so cruel they shouldnt have a bird if they are going to do this to them no exercise or love the poor baby was helpless and relied on them God bless you for what you have done for this precious sweet baby
This breaks my heart! I have shared my life with my cockatiel for 16years already. He is free 100% of the time in my home, yet he flies to my shoulder every time I move to another room. You are an angel for this little life form and I am sure he is very grateful.
I am a 'lifelong', dedicated cockatiel owner (having had the pleasure and honor of raising three beautiful, bright and intelligent cockatiels). The one I currently have (a grey-whiteface) was found wandering the streets, hungry and afraid (obviously abused and neglected by its previous owner(s)). Immediately adopting him at that very moment, I've had the pleasure of owning him now for more than 8 years, and he is a pure joy to me. He talks, sings and dances for me from the time he sees me at dawn to the time I cover him up for his night slumber. In reference to the previous owner of the one in the video above (and to all cockatiel abusers), anyone who neglects or abuses these 'beautiful creatures' should be punished with the same treatment they fed them. Trust me, cockatiels are magnificent and worth the time and effort it takes in raising them. The solution is quite simple: if you are a workaholic or are never home to get properly close to one of these little angels, DON'T GET A COCKATIEL, PERIOD! Mine is definitely not a 'cagebird' as he roams the house as if it were his own. I spend all his waking hours being his 'best and closest friend'; and, he follows me everywhere, or sits on my shoulder and cuddles with me, bringing me endless joy and happiness, and I love him as if he were my own child. So, if you are able and plan to invest your time being a 'proper owner of these little bundles of love, then by all means, get one. TH-cam (and the internet) is filled with dedicated owners that can give you all the support and understanding in raising them properly. Again, you will be amazed as to how they will truly enhance and enlighten your life. I 'totally' love my little baby!
Yes Nope same I really hate when I see these beautiful and intelligent birds getting neglected I wish people knew that it’s not ok to do that and how to properly take care or a bird
just so heart wrenching, how on gods earth these parasites can treat an any living in such a cruel way is beyond me I've always had cockatiels and they are so beautiful, I choose animals over humans any day, some people are evil animals aren't, Bless little boy x
This made me cry! You are such a beautiful human to rescue him. I got a 3 year old cockatiel, and he was so hard to tame! I can't imagine how much patience you must of had to have had! Cockatiels tend to be scared, but poor Cyril must have been so depressed! I'm glad that someone could help him, no creature deserves this! God bless you
Thank you so much Bloggerella :-) During the first early times of Cyril's life with me, he bit me more than any bird had ever bitten me, but I managed not to react and never pulled my hand away no matter how much my fingers were smarting. It didn't take long at all for him to realise that my hands were never, ever going to harm him, and from that point on, he seemed to solicit love and gentle scritches. Amazingly, he just loved human interaction once he realised how very nice it could be. He was a beautiful bird with a heart that bore no grudges against humankind. How much we can learn from the animals
Anne.M. Kenyon Anne, many thanks for this, ...it lets me know that my love for our feathered brethren is shared by such awesome souls as you, again thank you!!!
This made me cry!!! I am so happy that Cyril was handed into other care. I have 3 male cockatiels and let me tell you, you have to put a lot of time and effort into the care of these birds when you own them. I have mine in a massive avery flight cage. They need lots of room. And they need greenery in their cage like tree branches with leaves attached, (make it look like a jungle), they need lots of healthy food: Cockatiel mix, Sunflower seed, other seeds, Fresh fruits and vegetables. They need toys, mirrors (BIG MIRRORS) and ladders in their cages too to keep them occupied and happy. I also let them out 3 times a day to fly around, they need exercise!!! Cockatiels "GET BORED VERY QUICKLY"!!! You have to keep that maintained all the time. I have had all mine from as young as 2 months old. The youngest Luigi is 2 years old, the eldest Oscar is 12 years old and the other one Sam is around 7 years. It is a lifetime commitment owning these birds. If you want one, like all parrots, you have to be prepared to make changes. Mine are like 3 little children!!! They all talk and one mimics electric guitars!!! I wish I knew about Cyril long ago, I would have taken him in and housed him with my lot. The way he was treated - just terrible!!! I hope he has found happiness and the proper love and care he deserves.
The state Cyril was in when he first came to my rescue, he was absolutely beyond being housed with young, lively cockatiels. He couldn't fly, he could barely walk, he was petrified of toys. Cyril had a lot of quiet, intensive care before he was anywhere near fit enough to go in to the flight room, and even then, the whole layout had to be changed to accommodate his disabilities. Even introducing him to his own kind took time and patience, he was frightened of them at first. His confidence grew as time went by though, but his best friend, his most trusted friend, was always Tutu, the little budgie with the severe splay deformity. He adored her, and she adored him.
He absolutely loved it when his quarantine was up Rainbow Fox, and he could go in the main flightroom and make friends with the other cockatiels. He never managed to fly, but they would fly to him. His most loved feathered friend though was the little splay legged budgie, she was the very first to offer him friendship from hhis own kind :)
Awwww that definitely brought tears to my eye's, it was so heart warming! You obviously have a beautiful heart to be able to care so much for an animal like that
Me too! My feather babies cage is for bed time only! Her cage is never locked! If she is going to be my companion bird and not in the wild the least I can do is give her her freedom inside the house and regular trips into the backyard to run around on the fresh grass :) I Love my feather baby so much!
My three birds are out for extended time as long as I am at home. Otherwise, I am worried should I leave because they can get into trouble as they can fly unrestricted. Sometimes you have to protect them from themselves if you are a good bird parent.
I Love this story! it is a shame to see that happen to any bird! I have a cockatiel and I let him out everyday and fly around the house but what he wants most is our love and affection! great video
I have a rescue cockatiel too. We don't know how long he was kept in a cage but when he came to us he was afraid to come out and huddled against his toy beads for comfort. Years later, despite everything we have done, he still does not allow us to touch him. He will sit on my shoulder or on my knee but he has to come to me on his terms. I cried the first time he walked over and sat on my foot. When I lifted my leg he walked up to my knee and sat with me quietly for a few minutes. Such an amazing moment.
Lisa B That is so touching, yet so very sad also. What have hands done to him in the past to make him so afraid of them :( However, he is, despite whatever has gone on in days gone by, trusting you enough to make physical contact with you. Bless him. And bless you. I would have cried at that moment too. I am close to tears just reading it.
Anne.M. Kenyon I don't think Petey was abused. He was owned by an old woman who just kept him in a cage. I don't think he had ever been out of the cage. After she passed away, no one in her family wanted him and he was staying all alone in her trailer with someone only coming to feed him. Word got to me through a friend of the woman's neighbor. We already had a female cockatiel and I really didn't want another bird but after hearing about this poor bird living alone in a dark trailer I had to have him. He has night terrors and has to have a night light and can't be covered because of this. But he is loved now and even though our female doesn't like him (Molly doesn't know she's a bird, she's afraid of birds lol) he doesn't like for her to get out of his sight.
Anne.M. Kenyon I knew a cockatiel called Cyril at my nanas retirement home, he was old and my friends and lived in a small cage. A year before my nan died though he was gone from the retirement village and i never asked what happened to him. I hope that bird is happy, because i know that i will always miss my little friend, but wherever he is now is better than there.
+Ethan Ucherek Why don't you ask? You never know, he may be somewhere with someone local fostering him,who would love to find him a loving permanent home. :-)
You are so awesome and inspiring. All he wanted was love and to be loved, and you loved him and let him love you like there was no end. Please tell Cyril I admire his head feathers. He is beautiful, yet scarred, but you have done everything to heal his lonely heart. What an amazing person
aww how beautiful.regular birdseed has chemicals and all kinds of crap.i hope u prolong his life w/ a high-antioxident diet of fruits n lettuce and things.i hope he lives a long and happy life.all animals deserve that quality lifexx
Hi Crystal, I had to slowly wean Cyril off his poor diet of high sunflower containing, cheap cockatiel 'normal' mix. It took time, but after a couple of months he was being fed on Harrisons fine blend pellets, a very high quality mixed seed, plus fruits and steamed veggies. His most adored treat was scrambled egg white, very well done or he would not look at it, and a tiny piece of wholemeal, granary toast. He lived a life so full of love for almost ten years with me, before falling into his final sleep one \Christmas eve. I love your comment, thank you so much! xxx
Anne.M. Kenyon this makes me wanna cry.. even more so that i just got my bird this Christmas eve! All birds are special and crave affection. LOVE TO ALL BIRDS!
What a beautiful ending to such a very sad start. You can see he appreciates everything you have done for him. That kind of gratitude is more heartwarming than any. Thank you for saving Cyril ❤️
I too have a rescue cockatiel that was pecked on the back of the head by her siblings. She has found her forever home with me and three other cockatiels as well as budgies.
Wow, I have 2 cockatiels, 2 rats, 1 hamster. And i take care of all them by my self, every single day. I give them a home, i give them freedom. I always let my birds fly around my room, But the rats is impossible to let them out, they are eating everything. but i do let them out when i am with them and take care of them and watch them carefully. Once i had 1 bird that flew out from the door, and i never though i would see it again. and after few minutes, i came back very fast. I was so chocked that it came back just in like 20 min or less.
What a very wonderful video thanks so much for rescueing this wonderful bird.i have a yellow nape Amazon parrot,he is 26 years old I hand fed him as a baby.i will have my angel my whole life time I grew up with birds my whole life time.so wonderful of you have a blessed day
If you loved birds, you would not have bought one.
Mine used to only like me, but as others have given it attention and taken it out (in spite of the bird viciously attacking them), he has started to warm up to them as well.
Bless you for finding this bird and bless him for holding on until you came. I hope this type of story finds me as well. I know there are more out there. Thank you for posting.
My cockatiel, Mabel is my best friend, I play with her everyday!! And she has an avery in my bedroom the size of a single bed, she has 2 budgie friends and lots of different perches and toys! Love her much!! ( She is sitting on my shoulder right now)
You are amazing for helping this beautiful baby bird. I feel so bad for him, but now that he has an amazing family! I'm so proud of you, you should be rewarded for your amazing saving of this beautiful baby.
thank you, Anne, from Cyril, from all of us bird lovers. My Budgie Ralph, is sitting on my shoulder as I cry watching this beautiful video. Anne, you have done a beautiful thing. You must be a very wonderful person. Thank you.
+Anne.M. Kenyon if you would like, you can follow me on Instagram. Angel_pie48 you will see a white cockatoo wrapped in a towel.
I feel bad for my cockatiel if he is in his cage for an hour...
My cockatiels life! Same
Vanessa Spencer
My cockatiels life! Same
My cockatiels life! me too :(
white spider that's how my bird was she can fly all around my house I don't care I take the roof off her cage in the day so she is free to fly all around the house
Birds like cockatiels should never be left alone for long periods of time. They're way too social and intelligent for that. Thank you for taking care of Cyril, he looks like he's a happy and loved bird now.
no bird should
+Dan Murphy no animal to be exact
The all time champions🐶 there are many pets that should actually be left alone most of the time, ex. tarantulas, reptiles and fish. birds and mammal pets require lots of attention and affection, though.
***** bearded dragons do not "love" attention, but they can be trained to tolerate human touch. actually, pets like reptiles and insects should only be held for longer periods of time if it's very important, like if you have to examine them for wounds/diseases, or if you need to move them from one terrarium to another.
Mine is always played with by me, he mainly recognize his name but he is way too stubborn to response or be trained!
Thankyou for carding and making this beautiful birds life better
This is so so horrible what people do to these poor birds. They are so sweet, so worth loving. And yet people still neglect them. Thank you for taking care of him, this is a beautiful story. God Bless you
We need more people like you in this world
oh yeeh man
I'm so glad Jack got to live to see the colorful toys, feel the amazing scritches on his head, and learn a life with more birbs.
+rabidrumba I agree. Such an ignorant, heartless, thoughtless act. Some people are just complete and utter shits. Not all, but some.
+rabidrumba i think the person who did that should be locked up until they die and be beaten up
+Blue Sky If people always sink to the level of acting revenge on others, the human race will never rise from such petty actions. Look at this bird as an example, rather then displaying hatred, the bird is kind and sweet, it seeks no revenge, just love. +rabidruma this is for you too
***** while im not trying to argue, these birds are very inteligent they know they could never win a fight with a human
rabidrumba your comment was one of thee most sensible, and humane I've ever read. much respect to you and I agree completely.
Made my day
I've a feeling you may be a 'failed fosterer' and end up a permanent adopter to this dear little bird who chooses you to sing to ;)
What a brilliant story!! love it!!! well done, blood well done!!!!
.. This is so sad... I cried when i was watching this.. You are wonderful person.. Thanks..
Thank you
Anne, thank you for this update on Cyril in response to Mel.
God bless you and God bless Cyril, Love Eliza and Birds! xxxxxxX
They do suffer at our hands, don't they. Thank you for changing his world!
I've never met a truly mean Cockatiel. They're just the most loving little birds I've encountered.
Ms. Anne.M. Kenyon, I really really respect and love what you do. I wish you happiest life ma'am. god bless you
Thank you for loving Cyril and giving him a better life.
It pains me to learn how some people treat their beautiful friends.
I don't understand why such people feel the need to 'own' any living creature if they cannot offer them empathy and love.
God bless you for all you are doing for this tiny creature! 🌞
Thanks for taking care of Cyril and give him the life he deserved, he must to be taking care of you from the heaven.
that's horrible how can people do such a thing and be so cruel god bless you for saving it!
They are wonderful pets:)))))
trueeee
That is so sad....and Cockatiels love anyone that shows love back to them....good for you for taking this bird in and making his life much better!
Mine is an angry Lil sir and acts like an ass but once my little brother punched me and it flew in front of him and hissed at me and I was in awe
itsjustskye. He or she was or is.......not an "it." There's a lot more to birds than you seem to understand.
but for lots of parrots the males and females look the same so unless you do a DNA test you don't know for sure what it is.
+craig deleo **THANK YOU!!**
+TheRoshan89 best and most fully understanding comment I have ever read. Thank you!

It is a real nightmare. It is like torturing a child, a conscious life locked, It hurts me bad when I think about this. This one thing cannot be forgiven.
Couldnt put it any better! well said.God loves you
I showed this to my cockatiel to try to tell it to be thankful.... But that cockatiel in the video, it's just so sad to watch it and learn what it been through, I'm glad it has a new owner and got what it always longed for!
The story you've shared of Cyril's life with you is both wonderful and touching. The story of people with hearts such as yours is even more beautiful to behold!
God bless you for giving this bird a better happier life :)
Awww. I am adopting a 14 year old cockatiel on monday and I cannot wait to let his little life begin x
Enjoy your new family member c:
Great! You should make some videos!
+Nic Reilly How wonderful! Did you get this little darling bird Nic? I would love to know how things are going. Thank you SOOOOOOOOO much for taking in an older bird! I would love to be friends with you, and ALL the bird/animal lovers on here. My FB is facebook.com/Anne.M.Kenyon
Please join me, and let me know you are from here :-)
I sure did and I ended up going back to the sspca and getting a buddy for (her) as she was acting very lonely and now the little poops dont want to know me because they have each other, but i defo prefer them having their own kind as healthy company. xx
Anne, what a beautiful soul you are and the embodiment of compassion in the rescues you do. It cuts me to the bone to see/know of cruelty to any animal species. I try so hard to give my birds the best environment I can afford. You are a blessing to all the lives, big and small you have touched. Bless you!
Beth Rizzo Thank you Beth xx
It's so sad, how could anyone do this to such a beautiful bird. I miss my bird Sunny. He lived to be 32 years old. He was mostly blind, had arthritis and was a grouchy old man but he had been apart of my family since before I was born. I had looked into his cage six months ago and found he had finally passed in his sleep. He had a grand life. He had been on many adventures and we all loved him.
For doing what you did and continue to do Anne, you're the best, the absolute best!
Thank you so much for your kind words James, they are very much appreciated!
God bless you
Awww thank you. You are a wonderful person ♡♡♡
How did the baby get injured?
He's beautiful! ❤️ Thank you for taking good care of him, for letting him see the world in a different way. God bless you Anne!
I have two cockatiels myself, I let them out of the cage as much as possible, let them fly around the house, beautiful birds they are. I've never heard of such a dark hearted human that would do such thing to a poor little bird.
Makes me so sad what people do to birds….. they are such special lil creatures
aww so cute he looks so happy and for all those people who don't have the time to care for their pets don't get one simple as that
I remember watching this video a few months ago when I was thinking of getting a cockatiel that I'd grown really close to.
Thankyou x God did indeed bless me, with a very special blessing by the name of 'Cyril' :-)
Thank you for the angel you are in taking care of Cyril. Finally an owner he deserves. The world is a better place with you in it! Bless you!
Awwww! Mine get to come out...fly around...and they love rides on the ceiling fan (off of course!) ....they need freedom! Thanks for sharing💖!
how did u come to have him?i swear there should be a law where people need to get a licence in order to own a pet! birds get treated worse than cats & dogs coz they're not given any freedom most of the time & they're dismissed as unintelligent :(
I was asked to take him in by Birdline, a national rescue charity Soso. I'm so glad they chose me, he was a lovely, lovely bird
that's nice....u say he was a lovely bird,is he dead now?
Was about to ask that.... @Anne - is he ??
Such a heartbreaking story but good that Cyril is happy now!
That bird was locked in that cage longer than I've been alive... You are a great person to rescue him and give him a better life :)
M e too I'm only 11
+Alena Zhang im 10
i cried watching this how can humans be so cruel they shouldnt have a bird if they are going to do this to them no exercise or love the poor baby was helpless and relied on them God bless you for what you have done for this precious sweet baby
This breaks my heart! I have shared my life with my cockatiel for 16years already. He is free 100% of the time in my home, yet he flies to my shoulder every time I move to another room. You are an angel for this little life form and I am sure he is very grateful.
Im about to cry thank you so much for helping him your a wonderful person 😭😭👌🏾👌🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🙏🏾
I cried throughout this video...thank you for loving him...
It was impossible not to love that dear little old bird
so sad but beautiful - god bless your kindness
I lost a pet cockatiel 4 years ago today and that video is the perfect way to remember him and never forget my love for that bird
just so heart wrenching, how on gods earth these parasites can treat an any living in such a cruel way is beyond me
I've always had cockatiels and they are so beautiful, I choose animals over humans any day, some people are evil animals aren't, Bless little boy x
thank God for "angels" that give love and kindness to the tiny creatures ...You blessed girl you...
I'm getting a 4 month old cockatiel who is so wonderful but hasn't had proper attention because nobody would buy him.
There is no bird that belongs in a cage, unless you have a rescue bird, and you know how to take care of it, and I don't mean toys and other nonsense.
Bless you for creating a safe, loving environment for this precious creature.
Thank you for taking him in and showing him love.
Few things sadder than a bird in a cage, or a being that has never known love.
So cute, you sure know how to treat a cockatiel with love, I wish mine where still alive!
GO RESCUE AN ABUSED ONE!
Since cockateils are social birds, this would have been agony for it.
God bless you for taking care of him and reintroduce him back to life. How is he doing now?
Beautiful...I'm speechless
Thank you so much for being such a fantastic and loving person
Awwww that definitely brought tears to my eye's, it was so heart warming! You obviously have a beautiful heart to be able to care so much for an animal like that
Saddest fucking thing I've ever seen I always keep my birds outside their cage and do what ever they want
me too
Me too. My girl knows her cage is only her bedroom. She's never locked even during night time - only covered with a blanket to keep warm.
mine too - she's out and about, but mostly on my shoulder (which we both prefer:) and her cage is just a place to eat and sleep...
I have a cockatiel and I let him out everyday and fly around the house but what he wants most is our love and affection! great video
I cry everytime I see this! I have a cockatiel that just longs for my attention and loves on me! how can anyone ever do this to a beautiful bird
God bless you thank you for safeing him know he in a loving home thank you 🙏
I have a rescue cockatiel too.
I have a lump in my throat. So sad!
Thank you for saving this poor little bird
Can you tell me how to tane a cockteils it's hard
@@samahlougdari9306The single, best way is PATIENCE. And LOTS of it!
aww how beautiful.regular birdseed has chemicals and all kinds of crap.i hope u prolong his life w/ a high-antioxident diet of fruits n lettuce and things.i hope he lives a long and happy life.all animals deserve that quality lifexx
I love your comment, thank you so much! xxx
awww wow;0 you sure do spoil him;]]] i see you got it all covered;]]] i subbed.hope u post more vids of him in action merry xmasxx
Thank you for giving this bird another chance, being that hope and kindness.
What a very wonderful video thanks so much for rescueing this wonderful bird.i have a yellow nape Amazon parrot,he is 26 years old I hand fed him as a baby.i will have my angel my whole life time I grew up with birds my whole life time.so wonderful of you have a blessed day
these birds live between 20 and 25 years, some up to 30. We have one but... he bites.... spoiled little brat ours is.... but damn we love em.
my bird is the same I think I have to watch more bird training videos to bond with her she is more interactive with my dad
If you loved birds, you would not have bought one.
The Truth About Bird Suppliers
Just as there are puppy mills, there are now enormous bird factories where breeders warehouse thousands of parrots and other exotic birds and remove their offspring in order to sell them to pet stores.
Disease Is Widespread
Bird-breeding factories often breed communicable diseases, too, from proventricular dilatation disease (PDD)-the symptoms of which include depression, weight loss, and constant or intermittent regurgitation-to papillomavirus infection, salmonellosis, giardiasis, and psittacine beak and feather disease. Sick birds can give humans or other pet birds chlamydiosis (psittacosis), salmonellosis, E. coli infections, tuberculosis, giardiasis, and other illnesses associated with bacteria and fungi.
Smuggling Is Common
Wild-caught parrots are also prime commodities in the multibillion-dollar illegal wildlife trade.
When the Novelty Wears Off
When the birds who seemed so cute and lovable in pet stores turn out to be noisy, messy, and demanding of people’s attention, many are later abandoned, and few live out their natural life spans.
Mine used to only like me, but as others have given it attention and taken it out (in spite of the bird viciously attacking them), he has started to warm up to them as well.
Lmao mine is the exact same, he can't do without me and my parents but will bite. He doesn't hurt though. He's savage, I love him xD
( She is sitting on my shoulder right now)

this makes me cry every time
😢😣😓😭😭😭😭
I feel you
Can't stop crying, 20 years in an empty and tiny, toyless cage no hope for him. Until you came and became this old bird's ray of light.
well I cried in class.:')
thank you for giving him what he deserves.
thank you, Anne, from Cyril, from all of us bird lovers. My Budgie Ralph, is sitting on my shoulder as I cry watching this beautiful video. Anne, you have done a beautiful thing. You must be a very wonderful person. Thank you.
