litterally same i have this small drinking bowl that is about the size of 3/4 of a play dough container and my cockatiel would just go and sit in it for a bath even though the only way she could was by sticking her tail up because she couldn’t fit. Literally two inches away we had a container that was meant as a bath and would fit her perfectly.
take them into the shower with you and let them hang out on the curtain rod or somewhere out of the water. eventually 1 of them will want to get wet! If they are parent raised birds that may not work but it`s still worth a try. Don`t let them get completely soaked though. I have a hen that would get right under the stream if I let her
I did try that a few times with Pete, but he wasn't keen on the idea. We put them both in their travel cage and shower them with a small hand spray though, in the bath in winter, and outdoors in summer.
If your tiel don't like water get a bowl and sprinkle water on your self then try on the bird.. worked for me after like a bazillion trys but it worked.
Mike Pepler It mostly depends on his (Jesse) mood. Some days he will eat out of my hand and step up on my shoulder, and other days he hisses when I get anywhere near the cage. We have another (Coco) who basically does everything I ask him to. Jesse just seems to do what he wants most of the time.
We have the same situation - Pete is completely hand-tame, I suspect he thinks he is actually human. But Tom lived in an aviary initially, and while he will take food from our hands, says 'hi' to us, and will come and sit with me, it always has to be on his terms - if I approach him closely he'll hiss at me, though he doesn't really dare to actually peck me.
Mike Pepler the only time my bird Dusty hisses at me is when I’m trying to get her to step up onto my hand or just annoy her. But otherwise she is a good bird but doesn’t go well with water.
And then you get one and you bond with it and you leave and it freaks out and then from a distance away you hear AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA But overall they r great
Cockatiels really do have personalities. Mine is so clever and funny. She has learned a way to open the cage door, she goes out when she feels like it and when she goes back to sleep or eat she sometimes even tries to close the door 😂 she screams for me when Im out of the room and she flies on my head all the time. She tries to eat my food, when I give her a small taste she ignores it because she wants the whole plate! (i only give her a taste if its not harmful to her) I love her so much hahaha
He's certainly a white-face, but I'm not sure of any specific sub-type. We just thought he looked the most lively when we were at the shop. They won't wash much in the water, just their feet and faces really - they prefer to go outdoors in the travel cage in the summer and have a shower from a hand sprat then dry off in the sunshine!
My cockatiel, Petey likes to wade and do face splashes. What he really LOVES is to be sprayed. He bows down, spreads his wings and spreads it around under his wings. He will do this until he is soaked and dripping wet, while asking for more. Silly birds. :)
When those little black eyes look at you’d have to have a heart of stone not to be moved. Cockatiels all have their own personality and traits. Some of mine would never have a bath some loved it. The two strongest instincts of a ‘tiel are curiosity and caution, thus it can take time to introduce them to new objects and procedures, patience and allowing their natural curiosity to overcome their caution is the secret to living with them. Never force them to do anything as they may be traumatised and refuse to participate forever. With love and understanding a tiel will enrich your life and return your Love manyfold.
Agree entirely, especially on the curiosity and caution. Any new thing we bring into the room is treated as a lethal threat, then later we'll find them chewing it!
We find gently splashing our fingers in the water gets their interest. I've heard that putting a mirror in the bottom of the water can also get them interested.
Oooo. I don't know how I've never seen an all-grey Cockatiel like Tom... I watch bird videos pretty much constantly... but he is soooo pretty! And they both look really healthy. Very confused, but healthy =)
Don't worry, it's not an open fire, it's a woodburner, so all safely enclosed. They enjoy the heat from it, but don't go near it, and they've been living by it for 2.5 years...
I have 7. My Jake looks just like this one. MoMo is 17 years old and Sweet Pea is 15. I have read they can live to 20-25. Love em all!!!!! Wonderful idea!!! Thanks
That's a lot of birds! I think 20 years is average for pet cockatiels, but a friend had one who lived past 30! Our Tom only managed 12 years, but as a white-face I wonder if he was a bit inbred? Our Pete is still fine, now 16 years old! 🙂
My Cookie Monster (Cookie for short) enjoyed that video.. he lives alone with us so doesn't get to hear other cockatiels very often.. he has taken a bath himself but it is VERY rare even though the bowl of water (the same one, shape, colour etc) is always there for him.. he doesn't like showers much either but he does enjoy a good misting :)
*This is SO ADORABLE! One of my cockatiels shower with me on a perch I made that sticks to the shower wall, I put him up above my head & let him chose if he wants to come down to join. (Never let soap of any kind get on your bird) My other cockatiel I just adopted a month ago, does not like baths, or spray mister, or anything. It's a work in progress! I purchased a new paint roller pan & he is a little more comfortable with it each day. Time will tell!*
Sounds great! I tried to get our bird Pete to come in the shower with me, but he wasn't keen. Bath and spray work OK for them both though. We put them in a travel cage and take them outside for the spray when the weather is good.
Mike Pepler- literally 10 min after I posted that comment, I tried the spray mist again from a distance, sprayed my indoor plants & myself, then slowly sprayed my cockatiel, once spray every 5 seconds, he finally fluffed up & enjoyed it. Was a relief. I adopted him a month ago & he hasn't bathed once. I try to bath my birds 3-4 times a week for better health & humidity. Such a relief! Thanks for responding!
Just by splashing it gently, they were interested in that. They already played a game where they chase and drink drips that are running down the outside of a glass as well, which may have helped.
We've not taken our birds out in the rain, as it's usually cold when it's raining in the UK, but we do put Pete in his travel cage on a sunny day and then use a hand spray to give him a shower in the garden.
Lol I know right...and Christmas is almost here so keep me in touch. And when I get mine I will make videos and keep ya'll in touch. Please make more videos of them!!!
I wish (1) of my birds were this easy to take a bath. When she is given a bath, it sounds like she is having feathers pull off , then she almost demands a hair dryer to dry off.........which takes another 15 min.....I've invented a monster with wings
true easy cleanup. i dont know if you have noticed, but my cockatiel makes a distinct squatting motion and a grunting like vocalization when she poops.
I had a cocktail called Pete. He used to love having a shower every week. Sadly lost him 2 yrs ago if he was still alive he would be heading to 20yrs old.
Maaaan, Ive been watching so many cockatiel videos I actually want a cockatiel now. I dont know how I would like the noise, but I just think they are extremely fun little birds. I also dont know if my folks would approve of it though, but if they did I would definitely buy one.
+rockandrollathon They're great fun, but do remember they can easily live for 20 years, and sometimes 30, so you might have them for a long time! Ours are about 10 years old and still going strong.
Thanks for the feed back, the age doesnot concern me, as I already have a 3 year old RES turtle I got when it was a baby, so Ill most likely have that for a few decades as well as the cockatiel if I choose to buy one.
+rockandrollathon great, pleased to hear that. We got two so they don't get lonely when we're both out all day, which happens sometimes. But both boys, as we didn't want chicks...
Try them with some lightly running water. Mine liked to take a shower with me. I'd angle the spray so it was a light mist, and put them back on the shower rod to groom. When they wanted to come down on my hand for more water, they'd put their wings up. They loved it.
I used to try taking Pete into the shower - he was kind of OK with it, but preferred to sit on the curtain rail. Tom's not so tame, and would probably think I was trying to kill him! In the summer we take them outdoors in a cage and shower them using a spray - they love that!
If you speak with them happily and encouragingly they will bath happily more easily. Birds get more confident when you talk with them and will do things more if you speak. They are very sensitive.
Awwwwww little cute cockatiels taking a bath how adorable now I know they are the cleanest birds I will subscribe to your channel pls upload more vids I like them because I'm planning to have a pair of cockatiel by the way I'm Chris Park and thank you
He's a white-face cockatiel, so has no colours at all - hence no orange cheeks. The only other sign that can be used is the lack of bars on the feathers - he had these as a juvenile, and lost them at his first moult - if he was female he'd have kept the bars.
Tiels don't seem to be big on bathing. Mine was never interested in any bath; he just sort of bathed his head in his water dish. But whenever he was offered a larger tray, even shallow, he ignored it. I've read that tiels in general are not splashy bathers like some birds.
No, I know they aren't really - they wash their feet and faces and that's it. They prefer showers for actual washing, they really get into that - I'll post a video when the weather's nice enough to give them a shower outdoors in their travel cage...
Cockatiels live where there's not much water. They like a little of it , but too much messes up the powder in their feathers that keeps it clean. They often just take dust baths in the wild. Some people set up places for their 'tiels to do that!
When we first got a bird bath we decided to set it up in our house for our cockatiel, it's shallow and made of the same metal as his house. That was probably the happiest day of his life, considering it must have been like a swimming pool in his eyes. I notice that parakeets, and cockatiels don't seem to really splash the water like wild birds do when they bathe. They always look like they can't quite figure it out.
Super cute. I have two bugdies snd they took their first bath (sort of) the other day. Do u need to do anything to get ur birds in, I have to tap the water a few times. Lol
These two just went in. Sadly they're both gone now. Our two new birds don't go in the water. Yet... So I don't really know a trick to get them in. One I've heard of is to put a mirror in the bottom of the water.
We do that too, Pete gets a proper wash then. But we keep putting out the dish, as it would be so much easier if he decided to use it properly one day...
Good that you make a big bath and that it is transparent glass, as it is lead free. Pillivuyt or a stone bath would also be lead free. They could take a bath every week, or every other day in the summer.
Taking a bath
My Birb: No
Taking a bath in drinking water
My Birb: Yes
Lol 😂
Omg ... Haha .. same with my cockatiels. One of them only takes bath in the drinking water and the other two in the shower only .
OMG YES WHY MUST THEY DO THAT?!?!?😫😑 Drives me nuts because the one that hates bathing taddle tales on the other and screams the whole time. 🤨
litterally same i have this small drinking bowl that is about the size of 3/4 of a play dough container and my cockatiel would just go and sit in it for a bath even though the only way she could was by sticking her tail up because she couldn’t fit. Literally two inches away we had a container that was meant as a bath and would fit her perfectly.
I wish my cockatiels were this willing to bathe... Lol
lol same XD
take them into the shower with you and let them hang out on the curtain rod or somewhere out of the water. eventually 1 of them will want to get wet! If they are parent raised birds that may not work but it`s still worth a try. Don`t let them get completely soaked though. I have a hen that would get right under the stream if I let her

Mine screams like a demon if we even try to spray him
And then there is my bird who hisses at me when I look at him
+Kait L one of ours, Tom, does that too, if we look at him closely. I reckon he thinks we might eat him... Is your bird hand tame?
Mike Pepler It mostly depends on his (Jesse) mood. Some days he will eat out of my hand and step up on my shoulder, and other days he hisses when I get anywhere near the cage. We have another (Coco) who basically does everything I ask him to. Jesse just seems to do what he wants most of the time.

Lol same
Mike Pepler the only time my bird Dusty hisses at me is when I’m trying to get her to step up onto my hand or just annoy her. But otherwise she is a good bird but doesn’t go well with water.
Gosh idk what it is about cockatiels but they are so adorable and hilarious and smart and it is so enjoyable to watch them :D
They're great, aren't they! :-)
Alejandro Silva , I agree wholeheartedly!
And then you get one and you bond with it and you leave and it freaks out and then from a distance away you hear
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
But overall they r great
We got a second cockatiel so the first one didn't get bored while we were out. But the first one (Pete) still prefers human company...
Alejandro Silva i know right?
All I have to do is LOOK at a Cockatiel, and I grin from ear to ear...I LOVE their adorable little faces and sweet sounds...
Idk if it's just me but I love the smell of cockatiels, ik it's weird but I do
Birds pretend to be clean not like some dogs which smell is terrible 😂
Yeah, I do too. It's kind of sweet and dusty sort of smell :D
Oh yeees. I remember the smell as a kid..hmh I asked my mom recently about the smell and she agreed, that cockatiels smell is cute! :D
I do too!!! I think mine smells like cucumber on a good day and Fritos on a bad day 😂
Same. LOL
They smell like seeds!
Pete says "TOM GET OUT OF THERE, IVE SEEN HER PUT THAT PAN IN THE OVEN"
Not much meat on a cockatiel... ;-)
+Mike Pepler you eat them 😂 jk I love birds
Mike Pepler *SCCCCRRREEECCCHHHHHH*
Quiet, they're asleep now... :-)
CHICKENS GO IN, PIES COME OUT
ooooooo what kind of pies
APPLE
I just love the sound of cockatiels chirping
I love my canine children, these cockatiel videos helped me recover from Peanuts early/untimely death. Thank you!!!
Sorry to hear about your loss, we also lost Tom (white face in this video), but Pete is still fine and keeping us amused!
They're great, aren't they! Because we have two, the differences in their personalities really stand out.
The people who disliked this video must have thought it said "dis i like"
+AP gaming thanks! :-)
Mike Pepler Lol you're welcome :-D your birds are so cute!
Adorable...very relaxing to watch these sweet guys.
I love the fireplace with the kettle on top. This who video is so relaxing.
your home is warm and nice ,they are pretty birds, I am currently living with 4 now.
Just adorable. I grew up with birds and I miss them. Thanks for the video.
We mix some warm and cold so the water is at skin temperature, and that seems fine for them.
Alright thanks man
Gorgeous video of 2 gorgeous guys! I love the way Tom stays near you while he watches!
nancee Lowcarb They're a cute pair, aren't they? :-)
My female acts like a submarine. I worry about the water getting in her nose, but she loves it!
Sweet and Precious!!! God Bless!!!
I love the commentary and your bird. they are so smart!
Cockatiels are really nice parrots. I have 4 at home and 1 superb parrot :)
You wouldn't say that if you met him... :-) He and Pete fight sometimes, he's a big show-off too!
My cockatiel, Petey likes to wade and do face splashes. What he really LOVES is to be sprayed. He bows down, spreads his wings and spreads it around under his wings. He will do this until he is soaked and dripping wet, while asking for more. Silly birds. :)

I would die for Tom and Pete, they’re so adorable!
Thanks! Sadly it's just Pete now, Tom passed away a few weeks ago 😔. There's a memorial video of Tom here: th-cam.com/video/7JkYNC4pwT8/w-d-xo.html
We find gently splashing our fingers in the water gets their interest. I've heard that putting a mirror in the bottom of the water can also get them interested.

Tom is like the lifeguard!
This is like 8 yrs old but like this precious bean were ever he is hes a little bean^^
Sadly Tom isn't with us any more, but Pete is whistling as I type this!
@@mikepepler aww well hes flying high and the other is being tooken care of by a vary good home tom with you every were you go ♡
In the wild, I think 8 years is average. As pets, they live to at least twenty, but I know someone who has one that has lived past thirty!
aww I never knew a bird could be so cute!
Haha my cockatiel only dips his feet in when I give him bath water. Very cute!
Really this bath is just for fun, we use a handheld spray for a proper wash.
My birds go CRAZY and wild in the water lol!
I have 7. My Jake looks just like this one. MoMo is 17 years old and Sweet Pea is 15. I have read they can live to 20-25. Love em all!!!!! Wonderful idea!!! Thanks

your nat-geo-like narration is hilarious
Your tiels are lovely. They look very sweet and well cared for. :)
Thanks :-)
We use a sprayer with ours mostly - I wish they'd have a proper wash in the dish, but what you see in this video is as far as they go...
You can almost literally see them thinking and working it all out can't you?? LOL!!
Pete has a lovely "baby Grinch"-esque crest!! Haha!
*This is SO ADORABLE! One of my cockatiels shower with me on a perch I made that sticks to the shower wall, I put him up above my head & let him chose if he wants to come down to join. Great news! 😁
I love seeing these birds there fun to watch thanks for sharing this
Glad you like them - I've got a lot more videos of them, and some new ones on the way soon....
Just by splashing it gently, they were interested in that. They already played a game where they chase and drink drips that are running down the outside of a glass as well, which may have helped.
Tom is so BEAUTIFUL!
When in the summer, in the shower to take a bath. LOL. Got to be done!!!!!! Love them!
I love that little leap at :47
My Cockatiel absolutely Loves this video. No matter what mood he is in, he always loves when I put this video on.
+InsaneFlame Pete and Tom are happy to be of service! :-)
Maybe they wouldn't be so suspicious if it weren't a casserole dish =0 Adorable birbs!
+satchmodan haha! I did tell Tom the other day that I'd eat him if he wasn't a TH-cam star - he'd been perforating the cover of a book I left out...
nice and cosy with the fire going. :)
+eliza death thankfully they have no interest in going near the fire...
Mike Pepler I was wondering if that thing was open 😱😱😱😱
Yup! :) Just that he hasn't reacted as enthusiastically as he did to yours before :)
I have been trying to get my girl to do this for the longest time. One day I hope lol.
Mine love the sprey bottle during bath times. Its so funny too
Here is Marley

Nice! 🙂
When I lived in Honolulu my birds had an outdoor play cage. My cockatiel loved to take a shower when it rained
We've not taken our birds out in the rain, as it's usually cold when it's raining in the UK, but we do put Pete in his travel cage on a sunny day and then use a hand spray to give him a shower in the garden.
They are so cute can't wait until I get mine for Christmas. Makes me wan't to get them even more.
Birds are literally poop bombs that go off every 15 minutes.
+Charlene Pham They certainly are! At least cockatiel droppings are pretty dry, not like a pigeon or gull!
+wn6904k they don't wash themselves in there thoroughly though, we give them a shower inside their travel cage too...
When my birb heard their sounds he started whistling a blackbirds tune 😍
Haha, Pete gets really angry/alarmed when he hears a blackbird! 🙂
true easy cleanup. i dont know if you have noticed, but my cockatiel makes a distinct squatting motion and a grunting like vocalization when she poops.
I really enjoyed watching this! Thanks for sharing!
+Tom Fjord glad you liked it! :-)
I had a cocktail called Pete. He used to love having a shower every week. Sadly lost him 2 yrs ago if he was still alive he would be heading to 20yrs old.

My birds didn't like baths like that, so I tried getting a sparyer which they loved!
Ahhhh how well done ♥♥ Beautiful♥
Both of ours were singing as soon as we got them - 12 months and 6 months old, so I can only assume before 6 months old.

my baby cockatiel doesnt like to bath lol..always runaway. btw, nice cage. I'm gonna make like that
Awwwwww little cute cockatiels taking a bath how adorable now I know they are the cleanest birds I will subscribe to your channel pls upload more vids I like them because I'm planning to have a pair of cockatiel by the way I'm Chris Park and thank you

Same in our experience, we usually shower then using a spray.
love the captions!
Food - reward them with their favourite food for being near you. Do they feed from your hand yet? That's the first step...
No, I know they aren't really - they wash their feet and faces and that's it. They prefer showers for actual washing, they really get into that - I'll post a video when the weather's nice enough to give them a shower outdoors in their travel cage...
I want to look at the bird, but that is a wonderful looking wood burning stove.
lovely! Very nice wood stove!!!!❤
+maria renaud thanks! It does all our heating and hot water.
Maybe they're long-lost relatives! ;-)
Cockatiels live where there's not much water. They like a little of it , but too much messes up the powder in their feathers that keeps it clean.
They often just take dust baths in the wild. Some people set up places for their 'tiels to do that!

Yeah, ours prefer showers. We think Tom (white face) grew up in an outdoor aviary, as when he sees it raining outside he acts like he's showering!
That is just plain adorable!
Love your subtitles =D
Hello, I have two cockatiels they want to bath! but I don't know how cold or warm should the bathing water be???
We use water that feels just slightly warm to the touch.
The first cockatiel is the same as mine! :3
When I play this my cockatiel starts talking to it. Lol its cute.
Ours do that too, either to other birds or even to videos of themselves!
For a normal coloured bird, the males have very bright orange cheeks (see Pete in this video), while the females have much paler orange.
I heard a budgie lives up to 15 years.
But i'm sure a cockatiel lives about 30 years.
Tom lived to 13, but he was a bit inbred I think. Here's his memorial video th-cam.com/video/7JkYNC4pwT8/w-d-xo.html
Pete on the other hand lived to 17. His memorial is here th-cam.com/video/35PZIFqo8qM/w-d-xo.html
I think living to 30 is possible for a cockatiel but rare. Now we have these two youngsters. th-cam.com/video/RLKLCrC8zr0/w-d-xo.html
Well trained birds!
lol! Tom supervises!
Awww, soooo adorable!
My cockatiel Sam, loves a fine mist shower. 🚿
We do that too, Pete gets a proper wash then. But we keep putting out the dish, as it would be so much easier if he decided to use it properly one day...
Ours squat too, but they tend to squeak rather than grunt! :-)
my bird would do the same thing with his bath water, funny bird !! lol
Good that you make a big bath and that it is transparent glass, as it is lead free. Pillivuyt or a stone bath would also be lead free. They could take a bath every week, or every other day in the summer.
Ours do that too, even if the video is of them!
Awww how lovely and sweet
So you're just gonna put it in the oven like that? I would reduce the amount of water or the meat gets a little too moist.
lol! Don't think we'd get much meat from a cockatiel... :-)
