  • Ordering a hat online comes with some risks but sometimes when it's the only way to get a hat you have to take the risk. Here I introduce yet another method to make the hat bigger.

    Hairdryer on high for one minute -- stretch for 30 seconds
    Repeat three times = Success
    I did this on my seven and 1/8th and it now fits perfectly. I'm always between a seven and 1/4 and a seven and 1/8th

    I've only just started wearing fitteds and I'm between a 7 1/2 and 7 5/8. I looked up various methods and settled on this... With the support of comments and being extremely sceptical. Low and behold... THIS WORKS!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN!!!

    I purchased a 5950 low crown version in 7 1/4. Although it is my true size it fits just a bit tight. I used this method with a blow dryer and it did stretch just enough. I probably need to try it a couple of more times to get the right fit.Thank you!

    I've found over the years that drenching your hat in water only fucks it up. Your best bet to stretch a fitted hat is the hat-on-the-knee technique where you pull until you hear a pop and cutting two slits in the sweatband in the back of the hat.

    Yep, always a bad idea to buy NE MLB 59/50 hats without trying them on, first. There's also the added problem that when MLB switched to the all Polyester design (replacing the standard wool) they seemed to shrink obnoxiously. They used to before, but not as bad as they do now. I'm a Mets fan living in Las Vegas and it was impossible to get anything but the most basic blue/orange home cap. By some miracle, the Las Vegas 51s became the AAA affiliate of the Mets and their clubhouse shop has EVERYTHING. Seems like an effective method. Just saw a video of a guy using a bench vise and that worked too. I shall experiment with both methods. Thanks for the video!

      +David Redacted I know it's been a while, but which band are you cutting? just bought a new hat, same size as my old one but it fits way tighter. this heating thing seems like it might work for small adjustments, but I feel like I might need a little more.

    • @unclewiki
      @unclewiki  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +John Todd I ended up cutting the white band you see on the video but I HIGHLY recommend trying the heat gun/hair dryer on the white band and stretching it a few times before cutting. Once cut, you won't be able to reverse the procedure. You'd be surprised how much that band can stretch.
      Good luck!

      Kyle Lewis No, this method only works with 59/50's. One size fits most already has an elastic in it so trying to stretch that beyond what the elastic can stretch will only lead to breaking the cap!

      dezTroy Smith they only shrink if you have the old wool ones. The new ones are made of polyester, a synthetic fabric that physically cannot shrink.

    I am thinking a steamer might work better you think?

    • @unclewiki
      @unclewiki  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No a steamer isn't going to work. You're not trying to stretch the fabric, the goal is to stretch the plastic band the fabric is attached to. Heat is needed to stretch plastic.
