I love how people are mad at me for telling them how to wear their hats in the same breath that they are telling me how I should or shouldn't wear my hat.

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't buy that type of hat until I just watched this, flat bill not my style. I am way too old for that, love your work here.

1033stein tried this for the first time last night on a hat that I had with the higher crown and it worked perfectly. You should get paid from New Era, love some of the Minor League hats but would never buy them until now. Thanks again!

When i got my first caps at sge 17 I used to use em flat with the crown and sticker... 2 years later I just break em, remove the sticker and idk... I just got tired or idk but you are right lol ;)

luket905 Not everyone wants to wear a hat that still has the stickers on and with a super straight bill. Personally I think people look like douchebags when they wear hats like that

This is brilliant! I am a woman with a head so tiny I have to wear kid sizes and even those look utterly ridiculous because of the high crown. I honestly didn't think I could wear fitted hats but I recently found one that I couldn't resist so I tried this method and it worked perfectly. I did this twice, wore it in the shower a few times (without getting it wet), and did the stretch until it pops method (6 3/4 was a smidge too tight) and the hat now fits like a glove. Thank you so much for posting this!

I looked ridiculous wearing these high crowned hats, I hated it! After running the hat through hot water and drying it several times it still had the high crown. After the blow drying technique it's almost gone!
    Thanks man!

These comments are ridiculous. No sticker, with a sticker, bent, flat why does it matter!? Buy your hat and wear it how you want it, it's just a hat.

just wanted to add this tip: I followed his instructions and did it 3-4 times to make the cap fit better. My wife bought a hair dryer with a diffuser. I used that on the hair dryer and the heat was evenly distributed on the mesh inside of the cap
Worked great...nice video just wanted to add that.
    Awesome video...VERY helpful!!
    Rock On!!

Thanks DFW, this method worked perfectly. My wife was close to kicking me out of the house because of the high dome. I call it the birth control look. Thanks to you, she digs the hat and all is well in the universe.

Thanks for posting. I used to wear the deadstock look, but prefer a worn look now that I'm older. A lot of streetwear brands still use the 59 as a canvas & this will help me mold them. Screw these guys hating.

I'm so glad I found this vid. I was just about to try cutting the mesh out of one of my new Cardinals caps, which I'm sure woud have ended in disaster. I tried this and it worked like a charm! I usually buy the low crowns when I can because I hate the look of the high crown, but those can be difficult to find in my size. Now I can just buy the high crown caps and use this method.

Interesting way to do it, but I just take the stickers off and curve the bill a little bit by hand. Good to go. Oh, and sweat from the hot summer heat helps break it in, too! Love these New Era caps.

Awesome! I felt the same way about New Era hats until I started working them in a little bit. Now they are all I wear. Remember it's a process. After the initial break in you must keep wearing it, breaking it in, and sweating in it. They get more comfortable and fitted to your head the more you wear them. An announcer on the Nationals broadcast talked about this last night.

I'm a lifelong Rangers fan (grew up in Dallas) who now lives in Harrisburg, PA, home of the Senators (Nationals AA team). Since the Rangers were once the Senators, it feels like I'm following the Rangers third cousin. So yes, I have Rangers and Nationals hats in my collection. Which is why I followed your tip in the first place. And it worked great! The shower, the oven... I've tried it all and ended up with a wrinkled hat. The hair dryer lets me shape it just right. Thanks!

Nice video! This doesn't just work for 59Fifty either. I just did this on a flexfit hat and now it looks a lot better on my head, Made it fit my head better. I'll probably do this with a lot more hats too. i did this with my 59Fifty and it worked but I just don't love how I look in them. This is awesome, glad I found this.

Man! Who knew this was such a polarizing topic. I bend the bill and shrink the cap because that's what looks best on my head. Flat bills and high crowns make me look like I'm wearing a box on my head.
I take the tags off because I'm crazy that way. I also take the tags off of shirts, pants, belts, shoes, video games...you name it. I practice a strict tagless existence. On this there is no flexibility.

Just did 3 hats and it actually worked perfectly. I heated the 3 inside arches then fit my cap accordingly to shape it. After a minute or so the arch was lowered significantly. You can also apply the heat in front of the hat and curve it. As for the brim it's also a nice way to apply the heat underneath it.

🤔 I believe there’s reason why the “Low Pro 59FIFTY” was created. But I also believe in flying your own flag, wearing it the way you like it, without been badly criticized. With or without (stickers) (crowned) (flat brim) in the end it’s you spending money to please yourself and no one else. Peace ✌️ spread more love & let’s end hate.

(i was kinda joking) Generally though i think whatever works for you, some people rock the stickered flat brim, some the stickered curve, and of course some without stickers curved and flat. There is some functional purpose far keeping the sticker on, but if you don't think it looks good thats quite alright

We used to use midday sun to do this with our little league hats. Of course it would take for ever, but it would work after a few tries. When I was older I discovered this as well lol. But man those were the days! And yes we were lucky enough to have new era authentic hats with our logo on it which was amazing for us at the time. Real little big leaguers 😂. We would throw them, put a ball in the bill and rubber band it over night, talk a parent into running over them with a car, swim in them at the pool, and on and on.. We spent as much time on our hats as we did a new ball glove 😂

This video literally saved me over $300 dollars. I bought 8+ 5950 New Era hats online off of Lids, Hatland and New Era.
They were all 7 1/2's with extremely high crowns. I've been trying to sell my brand new hats for $5 or give them to my buds with bigger domes then me.
I found out all the 5950's that have this problem were made in China. I have 25 5950's, and the 9 that are made in China they're the only ones that look like this. The rest are made in the USA and fit fine.

Thank you! I didn't know about high/low crown. BTW, when I was in elementary school in the 80s, only nerds (before they were our overlords) left the bills on their caps flat and wore the hoods of their hoodies on their heads. The cool kids always knew to bend the bills of their caps right away and to never wear their hoods no matter the temperature. How things have changed!

Great video DFW. I had just kinda gotten used to wearing the high crown of my 59fifty hats but never was fully comfortable with the shape, all the cool new styles only come in the high crown. I re-shaped about 5 of my Padres and Bama hats last night. It seems to have worked great. Personally a like my bills a little flatter but the crown tips were spot on. I also used a rolled up paper towel while forming it to my head so that it didn't get as tight. Thanks a lot for the video.

I don't have a problem with people wearing the flat bills or high crowns. But I do think it's stupid to have the hat just sitting atop your head and not actually pulled down to fit your head. Just looks stupid that way. And the people that get the hats that are about 2 sizes bigger than their actual head and tuck their ears into it. I would never tell someone it looks stupid to their face though, as its their hat and they can wear it how they want.
Bottom line is, everyone has their own taste and sense of style. Wear yours the way you want to and let others wear it the way they want to.

Awesome idea my friend. I can break in a bill prety good. Even do the old timey kids thing STILL to this day if im inside a building, because that's how I was raised, which is folding the brim and keeping it in my banck pocket. Take it and roll back n forth like play doh.
I still have the high arch on the top though, which looks so awkward!!!! Feels uncomfortable to boot.
In all....thanks for the tip! Just bought a new hockey hat today so this is a godsend for me. Even my old ones which I hate the feel and look of. Not anymore if I can get it to work

But i'll be trying this method out on the New Era hats i like em better because of the huge catalog they have and that nice embroidery on them.

I tried this last nite and it worked. I immediately noticed the difference after just the first burn and mold. There's still some bump...but I'll keep at it.
AND DON'T USE A BLOWTORCH LIKE I DID MY FIRST TIME!!

Thanks for the comments, guys. 39thirty's are decent hats, but not even close to the quality or fit of 59fifty's. I have some 39thirty's that I'll wear to do chores in, but the 59fifty is a superior product. This video is intended to help anyone not a fan of the high crown get a better fit. Comments about SWAG or stickers were simply a joke and not to be take seriously. Wear your hats however you like. This is just one option.

Looks like a good method! Think I will try that, I don't like high crown hats, they make my face look too long, if someone likes it then fair enough, but I'm glad someone has shown a method to get rid of the high crown, so thank you :)

DFW do you suggest repeating immediately or wait a while? Looks awesome, I have about 4 Braves hats that make me look like a train conductor

What about the newer polyester hats?
I bought a couple online and when the first one fit just right, I got a little too excited and removed all the stickers from all the caps. Only problem, one is way too big all around. Without the stickers, I can't return it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks for sharing!

Thank you!!!!!!!! The only hats that fit my Fat head are size 8 fitted hats. Nothing else. Fitted hats are high crown flatbills. You solved my problem!!!!!

Thanks heaps for this vid! This might sound stupid but i had no idea you could shape these caps, and was pretty hesitant about getting a 59fifty cap because of it. Gonna order one now!

Will this still work if I don't wanna bend the bill like a Neanderthal? Baseball players usually wear it with a slight bend. Not a grandpa bend like in the video. I will say I do hate how high the crown is

thanks man is there any special way to bend the bill or do you just bend it like a regular hat?

I bought my hat one size too big and slightly dampened the panels I wanted to shrink with a wet wash rag. As I dampened the panels I had the blow dryer on high hot and it turned out perfect . Way better than running hit water through the hat.

Instant fucking win. 1st thing - take the stickers OFF.
    I fucking love it.
I hate stickers and people who leave them on the hat.

I'm trying to break in some hats and am watching videos of ways it can go wrong. Do you have any experiences for how it can go wrong, how to avoid it, etc? I can't really afford to go buying backup hats right now but I am just a few years too old to get away with wearing them looking new. I'm also doing it to a 9fifty snapback style. So far so good, though!

good tip for fixing the crown! but just curious... why didnt you just get a 39thirty hat if you're gonna bend the brim?

    • @BruceWayne-bk6ne
      @BruceWayne-bk6ne 10 ปีที่แล้ว

because those hats are corny. 5950 hats are where its at

    • @tplh
      @tplh 10 ปีที่แล้ว

the 5950 is the style of cap meant for Major League Baseball as it is worn mainly by the players, as for the NFL caps I prefer the 3930 cap over the 5950.
