Great tips, nice way to keep from getting headaches when your favorite hat is a little too tight. I got my hat stretcher from Hat Club a few weeks ago and it has been a game changer
Thanks so much Chris!
I have maybe 2 or 3 hats that come in fitting how they should and comfortable. I've bought the next size up but that's a crapshoot, and I have to shrink down to fit. I've learned just to stay with my size and steam & hatjack will do the job. Thank for the reminder!
Thanks for watching!
I have the same issue man bought a bunch of hats and maybe 2 or 3 fit good. The rest are a lil snug tight and when i stretch them they never hold the stretch. You think if i steam it (pot of water i dont have a steamer) then stretch it will it hold? Idk man i get frustrated that i wasted money
@@Kaetoh Get a teapot that you can flip up or remove the nozzle (whistle) if you don't buy a steamer. The only way to get a custom fit perfect and make it stay is with steam.
Thanks! I just got a hat in my size that’s way too tight so I’m gonna give this a go! I personally find new era all over the place in sizing
True! Which is why we put this together!
Exactly I went for a 7 5/8 and it was too big and I’m not even getting a full refund for that hat. I just ordered a 7 3/8 and it’s too small . I’m new to hats but this just made me wanna give up
@@thelowkeyspy Did you try size 7 1/2?
@@stuartgreer9566 lol
this was just the video I needed right now
Happy we could help! More to come!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
I bought 7 1/4 as well, and it fits snug on my head but after a while I start feeling light headed and I just wear it on the top of my head with the brim pointing upwards
I do the same and flip it around I'm not trying to look cool just trying to get comfortable lol
That steamer will come in handy when bending brims. Great vid
Yeah we did a video on that too! Check it out.
Every hat person should have a steamer!
Great tutorial Pierre nice video
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks man! More to come :)
How do you know when you have tightened the hat stretcher enough to go from 7 1/8 to 7 1/4? Great TH-cam content!
Go as far as you can without getting to the point of separation along the seams
Wow this hat is gorgeous. Appreciate the tips 🙏🏽 this channel is so dope
I bought one from Amazon and applying it to my jaetips atm. I got a large but I’m a 7 1/8-7 1/4 but it should be fine?
Yes one size will be perfectly fine
You can also get a jack off Amazon y’all. Also if it still tight leave it for a week forget about it and then go back to it. It’s saved three hats for me! Awesome vid I have to add the steamer
Thanks for watching and you’re right. Leave it there a forget about it always works too!
Could you do this stretch on Flexfit style hat? Stretchy band hats?
No.
Maybe a video on shrinking hats? I've seen a few but would love to hear your perspective
There is a video on the channel already that covers the 'non-liquid' method by our own Jason Mead
Great Tutorial 👌🏽can you guys do a how to shrink vid wanna see your guys take on how to shrink or what do you guys do when you buy a cap your size and it comes an xtra size bigger. Thnx
Coming soon!
Waiting for this too☝️
You got it!
Thanks Pierre! I’ll add it to the fitted care tab on fhs!! D Irwin. Peace
Cool, thanks!
Will I lose any sizing of the crown if I were to stretch a 7 1/4 to a 3/8???
No.
Do you have a preference on a steamer? What do you think is the best out there?
I use a ConAir
I have a hat that fits pretty well the only issue is the sweatband is stiff, so it leaves a little red mark on my forehead, how can I get it to soften up?. I don't have a hat jack. But I do have a steamer
I'd try to steam it, that may soften it
man I got a 7 3/8 and through sweat and use its to tight what size do I need to scoop up on the hat stretcher the large?
Medium
Great tip! What hat are you wearing in this vid?
The Westport Grays. A custom from Hat Club by Hillside Goods.
Would hat stretcher works on all corduroy fitted?
Yup. Works the same....
I'm so amazing with your new era collection, its so hard to find another mlb teams in indonesia. My fav team baltimore orioles :)
Nice! Well, thanks for watching!
Don't feel bad I live in Baltimore and even tho the team has been terrible for decades it is still hard to find certain orioles hats they sell out fast
my size 7 1/4 cap is smaller than other models of the same size that I have. If I use the hat jack, can I enlarge it a bit so that it stops squeezing me, or will it become too large? Thank you
You can definitely do it. Follow the steps in here.
Is there any difference if you are trying to stretch a wool hat that has shrunk over time?
Nah, same thing. But wool will probably continue to shrink over time.
@@VFTV I appreciated it, Thank you.
Will a Medium Hat stretcher work to go from 3/8 to 1/2?
Yes.
I bought a 7 3/8 and it fits to tight would this work if I wanted to stretch it so I don’t get marks on my head but not to much that I make it a 7 1/2 as that is to loose ?
Just ordered my Hat Jack and Streamer.
A must!
Nice, let us know how it works!
Does this work on wool hats? And what brand hat Jack should I use?
Hat Jack is the brand. Works with wool
I bought my size but I grew my hair out thank you for the tips
Happy to help!
For New Era fitteds
If you can comfortably move your eyebrows while wearing it backwards
is that ideal or too loose?
I’m debatably between sizes. Please let me know 🙏🏽
Personal taste.
Wich one should I use to stretch a 7 3/8 to a 1/2
Medium.
Thanks for the Video an Great tips . I wear 7 1/4 but some hats are Little Bit to tight. So i Want to Stretch them. What hat stretcher Size should i buy? Small, Medium or Large? Thanks
I am 1/4 and use a medium
I will try these tips because I have a really nice Washington Redskins 2016 shiny draft fitted hat but these hat are rare and I got one that is probably one centimeter too tight.
Let us know how it works out!
Any issues w them shrinking back ive done too mine but without steamer and they seem too go back too their original form TIGHT.
Thank for any feedback👌🏾
Depends, wool will definitely shrink back. Poly may need a restretch here and there, but shouldn't shrink back as easily as wool.
where can i buy the hat stretcher? bought my first cap so i didnt really know what size to pick, i got 7 1/8 and i think i needed a 7 1/4
Amazon is the best bet. You can use small or medium for that. Probably better off with small though.
What if im broke as hell lately and cant afford a hat stretcher do u recommend and home remedies that i can do without spending any doe
But the back of the at the end of your bent knee and pull
I measured my head and it was exactly 54.9. So I ordered a 6 7/8 and it’s too tight. Will a size 7 be too big? I saw it’s supposed to be 55.8
I think the best bet is to get to a store and actually try them on honestly. Way easier.
What about a 7 to 7 1/4 ? I got a field of dreams white sox hat in a 7 since the 7 1/4 fits looks after normal use. Can I use hat jack to stretch it?
Going up that much is tough. You can try, but I doubt it will work.
How due you shrink caps?
Coming soon Juan!
We have a vid coming soon. A liquid and non-liquid method.
Would a hair dryer work I have no steamer
You should use steam, but if not just do it without anything
What kind or model/brand steamer?
I use a Con Air, but most any would do
I’m trying to stretch a 7 3/8 to a 7 1/2 what size hat jack should I get?
Medium.
This was the best helpful video on this I've found. My only question is if I am trying to stretch my New Era fitted from a 7 3/8 to a 7 1/2 (one size up), which of the Hat Club stretchers would you recommend to do the job? Also what steamer would you recommend? Thank you!
Medium.
I need my 7 5/8 fitteds too go too 7 3/4 what do I use ?
For size 7 1/8 do i need S or M?
On the cusp, but I'd go small
Thanks. You just saved me some money.
Glad I could help
That g hat is amazing
A Hillside Goods cap. So good!
Alright not sure if you guys will answer this but let’s say I got a hat that supposed to be my size but won’t even fit on my head should I sell it or do I still have some hope?
I would sell it but be honest about it's true sizing.
One size fits most😮I bought a Atlanta Braves hat (velcro strip) which is a great fit. Purchased a Pittsburg Pirates cap but its tight on my head😂Why is the sizing so inconsistant?
It's crazy how hats used to say: One size fits all. Now, they say One size fits most... So how are you supposed to know if you're "One of the most"? 😊
They're hand made in factories, so there will be variances from time to time
@@VFTV They're taking the piss making them this small/tight.
Does this work for new era one size fits most bucket hats? I recently bought one and it’s super tight
If it's elastic, probably not.
What hat jack size would you recommend for a hat size 7 1/4? Got a couple hats that are 7 1/4 that fit tight 😒
Medium.
how about for a 7 3/4, ...I need a large for a wool fitted ERA hat...
how you clean the inside of the hat and under the brim of a ERA hat..due to 😓 sweat
Will getting a 1/4 work if I’m a 3/8? Someone has a hat I been wanting for a amazing price but it’s a 1/4 😢
It definitely should as long as the 1/4 is a true 1/4 and not a super small one.
thank you for this OG, i got my off white tigers the other day and my size is 7 1/8 but it fits like 7 maybe a 6 lmao super tight
Not a problem my man! Happy to help
Yes brooo.I wear 7 1/8 but sometimes they be rubbin small. But when I buy a 7 1/4 it fits me to big
@@Chrissbeenon I got the same issue haha it’s like they off by a few cm. 😂
@@alexpaz9700 I got that problem too and I’m not sure what to do lol I have to put moldskin padding around my 7 1/8 hats so they fit how I want but I go to size 7 it’s just a tad tight. I’m hoping a hat jack is what fixes this cause I’m like 800$ deep in fitteds trying to figure it out
@@olivialovely1508 did it work? I got a couple of size 7 I would like to stretch more to a 71/8
Where could I get this hat jack?
Hat Club. But there's some on Amazon and other outlets
Can I got from a 7 to a 7.1/2 by stretching
Not a chance.
How can you stretch the depth of the crown?
You can''t.
sizes always wrong. Sometimes my 7 1/2 is a little tight, sometimes a lot, so I need a little stretch. So I need the medium or large hat jack??????
Medium should work.
Hey Pierre I have a hat that’s a size 7 I need to get it to a 7 3/8 would the small size hat jack work or would I need both the small and the medium?
You'll never go up that much! 1/8 of an inch is doable, anything beyond that will damage the hat in most cases.
what size stretcher should i get, all my hats a 71/8
Small
I got a 7 5/8 and it is a little tight in forehead area.. should I go up a size?
I would, but it's going to be trial and error honestly.
Great video. Was waiting for Robert to jump on the entire time 😂
Maybe one day!
He was there in spirit!
What’s the brand of that steamer?
Conair - not the movie 😂
@@VFTV thnks
Is a 8 to 7 3/4 possible??
That's two sizes and most likely won't work.
Hello, I need some help. I stretched my hat over night at it’s fullest extent with the hat stretcher wood piece it worked for about 2 days and now the hat is tight again ..any suggestions? Pls let me know thanks!!
Hat stretchers are not permanent. Keep doing it until needed.
Is the Hat stretcher good to use when going from a 7 to a 7 1/8? Also my hat is wool
Absolutely! One size up is totally doable.
Works great. My tighter hats now fit perfectly, THANK YOU
Great to hear!
So I have a 7 1/4 and I’m a 7 3/4 what size stretcher should I get
None, that won't work. You can go to a 7 3/8 but that's really it.
I have a 7 1/4 fitted hat and need to stretch it out just a little bit what size hat stretcher do you think I should go with?
Medium
Is it possible to go from 7 1/8 to something between 7 1/4 and 73/8 without damaging the hat ?
to 1/4 yes. 3/8 is a bit much.
7 1/2 fit me a little too tight, and 7 5/8 are a little to big. Is it better to just stretch a 7 1/2?
If it's poly I'd stretch the 1/2. We have a video coming on how to shrink hats too - both with liquid and without :)
What size hat stretcher would work best for me?
@@extendomigs I would say Medium
Can you recommend a good steamer?
I think you should check out the other video where we talk about all the things a hat collector needs. There's links there. I use a Con-Air
Hello mate.
I'm from the UK and been looking at buying my first cap. I've been on new Era uk, I'm exactly 60cm in size and there is no size converter dead on that. (I'm a total newbie) so be kind of anyone sees this Hahahahaha. What size would you guys recommend the shade almost dead on my size or slightly bigger? Many thanks and much love from 🏴
I would say slightly bigger, then check our video 'how to shrink a hat' on the channel
where do u get ur hat cases? are they just shoe holders?
Yes, drop front shoe boxes from the container store
Got a 7 1/2 need to stretch just a little bit not much what size should I get?
Medium
Did the hat fit afterwards?
Yes.
Can you stretch a fitted cap that has been curved with the hat stretcher?
Absolutely.
I wear 7 but had to buy 7 1/8. Is that a major or minor difference in fit and feel?
Usually it is.
Just a question, my head size is a 7 1/8 and I always have to put stuff inside of the hats to make it tighter, but if I go down a size it hurts my head way too much and I can barely put it on. So my question is, should I get a size 7 and stretch it? or should I stick with a 7 1/8 and hope its a tighter fitting size?
This is my problem, I’m currently buying the 7 and trying to stretch my hats. Currently a work in progress lol
Where did you get those boxes for the hats was it the container store ?
Yes
Need to make my 7 1/2 just a bit bigger but can't find a medium hat stretcher on amazon, any recommendations??
Hang tight, they'll show up. The other option is to steam it a bit and put it on your head, but that may not be worth the pain lol
@@VFTV lol I actually bought one and a steamer but the hat stretcher is kinda small and since you recommended a medium instead of a small in the video but the thing is that amazon doesn't give you an option of selecting a size. 👎🏼
What sz hat stretcher should I get if I'm trying to go from 6 7/8 to 7 and what steamer do you recommend?
How about if I bought it 7 3/8 and when I customized it y went down a size due to the embroidery?
You can still use this method in that case.
Is hat suppose to be a little wet after using steamer?
Good stuff 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Thanks John!
Thanks for the visit
hi bro do you have a link for that steamer
Just search on Amazon. A lot of good choices there
was that a cordless steamer? if so whered you get it?
also what is the logo on your shirt?
thanks for the video.. just ran through some old hats in need of a slight stretch, hoping the steam tip helps them maintain the stretch rather then having to re-stretch time to time
No, it has a cord. It's a Conair. The logo on my shirt, from the Ebbets Field Flannels site: 'People of a certain age who grew up in Kansas City will remember the famous Katz Drugstore chain. ("Katz pays the tax!"). Not only did Katz sell everything from medicine to fishing lures, they sponsored a team in the amateur Ban Johnson Baseball League. One of the most distinctive and fun caps we have ever seen, this one comes to us from EFF customer and friend Paul Carr.'
Hi Where can I buy the hat jack?
Amazon, Hat Club - - there's several places.
@@VFTV appreciated it, thanks.
Thanks for this video
I bought a 7 5/8 but I need to stretch it to a 7 7/8…will it damage the hat?
Yes, two sizes is too much.
What if a have a head the size of a Citröen 2CV?
What the hell does that mean
@@VFTV Conceived by Citroën Vice-President Pierre Boulanger to help motorise the large number of farmers still using horses and carts in 1930s France, the 2CV has a combination of innovative engineering and straightforward, utilitarian bodywork. The 2CV featured overall low cost of ownership, simplicity of maintenance, an easily serviced air-cooled engine (originally offering 9 hp), and minimal fuel consumption. In addition, it had literally been designed to cross a freshly ploughed field, because of the great lack of paved roads in France then; with a long-travel suspension system, that connects front and rear wheels, giving a very soft ride.
So I just bought a hat jack and I just realized my true hat size is 7 3/4 and I got a hat that is 7 5/8. Would this work to get it too that 7 3/4 size??
Yes.
what about 7 1/8 to 7 3/8? is this possible?
No, that's too much imo
Thank you for your instructive video. I have used your guidance to stretch my 7 1/4 hat to fit my 7 3/8 head and it has worked well. The only downside is that now the band around the back of my hat sticks out a lot more than the fabric of the rest of the hat resulting in an odd shape. Any suggestions? Re-steam?
Glad it helped! Yeah, that's what I would attempt
bought a 7 1/4 but when it came in I noticed it looked way smaller than normally. Tried to put it on but didn’t even fit over the top of the dome. More like a manufacturing error and it’s like 6 7/8.. is it possible to get it to 7 1/4 or at least 7 1/8?
I would say no. One size yes, two or more, no
I’m a 7 1/4 but I found a hat I wanted but it’s 7 1/8 any tips here without using the hat stretcher?
Hello mate, there's a hat that I like in an online store, sadly it only has 7 7/8 left (my size is 7 3/4), is it still fit good if i not shrink it ? I'm afraid it'll be to big for up 1 size..
Wool is easier to shrink then poly
Man almost all my hats fit too snug, when i stretch them it doesnt hold the stretch. I dont have a steamer but if i use a pot of boiling water and steam the hat then stretch it will it make a difference? Or any way to make the stretch stay? It always goes back to being too snug. I got a universal hat stretcher from amazon idk if its that i have the wrong one or what. Im 7 1/2 and 7 5/8 is soo big so i dont know what to do
Ive also left some of them for 48 hours. Im starting to try and leave it for a full week out of desperation. Feel like i wasted my money sometimes because of how tight these hats be fitting
There are variances in sizing quite often. A lot of it isn't that you are buying the wrong size, but rather there's a difference at the factory. Stay with it and use this if it's too tight and our hat shrink video if it's too big
@@Kaetoh I’ve been in the same boat. Here’s a trick that’s worked to alleviate some of the snugness for me, enough to dodge headaches when I get a fresh buzz cut: 1) Steam the whole thing for 2, 3 minutes. Get everything close to damp except the brim. 2) Throw it in the stretcher and go to the limit. Wait an hour, two max. 3) Take out the stretcher, steam it once more, then wear it for the rest of the day. Might need to do this twice or even three times but patience will pay off.
Plus when you do this enough, like Pierre you’ll start to know which hats can “go the distance” and which ones won’t right from when you try them on the first time. So let’s just say I’ve donated a bunch of hats the past few months.
Have done a lot of trial and error and as someone who orders hats online, I can say this is starting to work. Good luck.
Will this work on a really tight wool 7 1/8? I usually wear 7 1/4 poly flat brim but when it comes to wool they are massive at 7 1/4 and I'd rather stretch than shrink. I grabbed a few 7 1/8 wool from hatheaven and they fit perfect out the box but when I ordered 3 more 7 1/8, they were stupid tight. What do I do? Go back to 7 1/4 and try shrinking or stay at 7 1/8 wool and stretch no matter what?
With wool I would always go with the bigger size as it naturally shrinks over time. Buy the bigger one and expose it to a little heat.
@@VFTV I have an all wool throwback cap that I've had for 20 years. It is too tight now. If I use the same method you used in this video on your Cards polyester cap, do you think I might be able to stretch my wool one to where it's comfortable again? I don't have anything to lose at this point anyway.
I have this exact same issue. Did you end up figuring something out? I’m 57 cm dead on and it’s tricky. I started buying 7 1/4, but some of the caps came in too big.
After ruining two UVs from shrinking attempts, I just figured I’d do what you did and go 7 1/8 and stretch since I knew some 7 1/8 have fit me fine before.
It’s worked half the time, but I’ve got a couple wool ones that are stubborn. Have stretched them both twice over night and when I throw ‘em on right after taking ‘em out of the stretcher they’re perfect.. but then they reform almost fully back to original over a few hours.
It’s starting to feel like a crapshoot to buy these online, but some are so nice you can’t resist.
Let me know how you made out on your end. Thanks. Cheers.
I’m like a 59-61cm would 7 1/4 be too small?
Came for the Robert thumb, stayed for the info
That is one of the best thumbnails ever.
will the hat eventually go back to its original size? is this like a do more than once in the hats lifetime thing? i would like to buy this hat stretcher but dont want to have to stretch my hats over and over
You’ll be good after the first or second stretch, unless it’s wool. Wool will shrink overtime tho
@@austinklith792thank you
