Still haven’t gotten around to buying a switch yet and it’s lists like this that stop me every time. I’m already totally sold on getting one but the practicality in me keeps looking at these lists like this and I say to myself there’s dozens of great games on your 3DS you haven’t played yet why spend that $300 on a new console when you could spend that same money on games.
Can't fault any of the picks on this list at all, but I feel like it should have been a top 32 and included Picross 3D 2 as that's without a doubt one of the pearls in the 3DS library.

while nintendo has no plans to stop supporting the 3ds' games and multiplayer - They will have to some day. Get the most out of your 3ds so you don't have to heavily ssoftmod it it top play multiplayer
I love my Switch too, no doubt about it. But the 3DS library is amazing and I find it much more portable to carry around, and more comfortable to hold in my hands while I'm relaxing before bed or whatever. Also, I really love the 3D effect on my N3DSXL... I feel a bit sad to think we may not have another 3D system for... ever? Amazing system.

I’ve joined the 3DS bandwagon rather late I know but much the same as I did with the PS3, joining late means I have a huge buffet of quality to feast on. Rather than joining hype early and starving between releases.

I have a Switch but I still play my 3ds allll the time, almost daily. It's much more convenient to travel with. Battery life way better than Switch Lite for travel. I have a MASSIVE collection of games and the ds and 3ds library is perfection. I keep buying games, carts and digital, to this day. Whatever 3ds you own don't get rid of it. These are just such a perfect piece of gaming history and a blast to play.
I didn’t buy a 3DS until 2020 (the pandemic got me to do all sorts of weird things). Now it’s my most played system. More than my Switch, more than my PS5, and more than my Series X. Before that I bought a Wii U which kinda lead me to buy more Nintendo stuff. And would you believe that I never owned a DS or a GBA? So all those libraries were suddenly available to me with this one little handheld. Until it’s easier to hack the Switch, my 3DS is going to continue getting tons of play by me.
@@leeartlee915 meanwhile me who emulates 3ds, switch, ds, gba, psp, ps2 and all available systems on my phone.... i know for some its not as good as physical buttons but growing up all i cud do was emulate and with touch controls, so i dislike phyical buttons (even tho it makes games like metroid a colossal pain in the Mara)

I just love it when people find a way to game when they may not have been able to otherwise. I love this hobby more than anyone. I would never want to gatekeep it from others.
I know I might be the only one but I thought the Yo-kai watch series deserved a spot I mean the games were very fun in my opinion and It had so many places to explore and expanded every game also not to mention in the sequel fowards your Yo-kai friends could follow you and even after the story you had so many things you could do even side missions I think it was way ahead of its time and deserved a spot at least
GBA and DS don’t compare to the 3DS. The only reason they have sold more units overall is because the 3DS has had to compete with the rise of smart phones since its inception. All things considered, the 3DS has done amazingly well
The lack of a Professor Layton and Ace Attorney game is criminal. Those BOTH had 2 great games on the 3DS and even a crossover (I would cheat and put one of each plus the crossover). I would've also had a different top 5 but that's subjective so I won't jump on you for that. (Also including OoT & MM on there is unfair, OF COURSE they would make it; they're all-time great games but LBW shouldn't be looked down upon, I'd have that in my top 10)

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't play them because if they did they'd be on here (I mean there were games on here I hadn't even heard of). Which did you prefer, since on 1 per series, Miracle Mask or Azaran Legacy? I personally preferred the Azaran Legacy. But if you go to Ace Attorney between Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice that one is harder. I might have to go with DD just because there is one case in SoJ that I felt was kinda a dud, that was how close it was for me, just one ok case bumped it down slightly, both have great stories but one game I felt had 5 great cases (add in that DLC one too) where the other one had 4 great cases and 1 so-so one (although, I will be honest, I got busy hand haven't touched its DLC, so may its DLC is so good it does slightly push it up). But I would also throw Pheonox Wright vs Professor Layton on my list as well, if you hadn't played that I'd suggest it.
I like animal Crossing new leaf And I got a lot of hours out of it I recognize it’s a great game but it’s a weird pick for number one overall. It’s probably the best game in the series so far and one of the best games on 3DS but I still have to say as much as I like its genre is probably too much of an acquired taste to declare it the best game on the system. The number one overall Game probably should be something I could put in Anyone’s hands and there’s a 95 percent chance They’ll love it
Luigi’s mansion dark moon is legit one of my favourite games ever. THE MUSIC IS AMAZING, THE AREAS ARE TERRIFYING, AND MY PANTS WERE SOILED AFTER THE HAUNTED TOWERS
I don't think you can use the c-stick with Ocarina btw. Only Majoras. Ocarina was made long before the New 3DS, so they weren't even aware of a c-stick.
Ace Attorney is my number 1. I see them as a must buy on the 3DS. The Ace Attorney series is a mix of visual novel, detective work + courtroom battles, where you defend your innocent clients and learn the truth of what had happened. The characters are colourful and full of personality, the cases interesting and I cannot get enough of them.
Playing the first AA game in the trilogy collection for the first time at the moment and I wholeheartedly agree. As someone who's never played a single visual novel I am thoroughly enjoying it.
There is a ton of great games for the 3DS. I originally got mine for Pokemon X on launch day, but it quickly became my Monster Hunter machine because it has MH3U, MH4U and MHG all on one amazing system.
I got mine for Pokémon! After finishing Sword a few weeks ago, I have an itch to play the games I missed since I never owned the 3DS family. I also wanted to play Majora’s Mask and some of the Mario games. I got Link Between Worlds fairly cheap, which I’ve heard good reviews about. It’s really a great handheld system. I regret not owning a 3DS sooner.
Guys it was the best thing, ive ever done.. I bought a New 3ds XL + 64GB SD Card.. I homebrewed it. I'm playing GB, GBC, GBA, DS and 3DS Games.. damn.. i got at least 20 Games for each Handheld Gen. p.s a New 2DS XL might be better, because of the New 3ds XL loose build quality at the top screen

Mattimoo 2 - You and me BOTH! I want another next gen handheld system from Nintendo with PS Vita-like graphics, hi-res screen, a true Control Stick that replaces the nub, 32GB of infernal memory (since that seems to be the Nintendo standard), better speakers/sound quality, maintain the 3D effect feature, but improve upon it, remove backwards compatibility with Nintendo DS games if it means that the handheld will be bigger and thicker, because of that inclusion, and multi-touch screen on Top/Bottom. I really hope Nintendo makes an announcement regarding a next gen handheld in 2018 for release in later 2019/early 2020. They just have to make at least one more addition to the Nintendo handheld family.
Well, Pokemon's next main series game is on the Switch, so i believe the 3ds is pretty much died. The Unreal engine 4 support is probably what makes the Switch more appealing in my opinion. I've worked with UE4, and it's a breeze. nothing too complicated unless you want it to be.
Well you could always get a switch as and use it as a handheld only system, it's getting very very good 1st party support and some good 3rd party games here and there to give you options, it also is pretty powerful for a handheld so you know nintendo is gonna crank those 1st party games up to 11 XD

Thank you for putting Fantasy Life on this list. It's easily the best game I've ever played. Such a nice and relaxing (usually, depends on your job) game. And the story wasn't half bad either!
I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that Mario Maker 3DS lacked not just Miiverse, but rather lacked all online functionality. In contrast, I believe the WiiU version can still share and play online levels even without Miiverse. This makes the 3DS version seem nearly worthless.
Unless there was an update im not aware of, you are correct. There are random levels from the Wii u version in the 3ds version but other than that, it lacks any kind of level sharing or online functionality.
Mario maker on 3ds does have a mode that the Wii u version does not, and that is the super Mario challenge. Honestly, I just finished this mode recently and it was amazing, I think it's worth getting the 3ds version just for this mode.
That mode sounds fun, but there is little point in creating levels if you can't share them. Also, I just want to try the famous levels and stuff. I really, really, really hope that Nintendo comes to its senses and allows those features at one point.

I mean not really. Resident evil 7 was what the series needed. Revelations was more of the things that could have been, but with the horrible aspects of resident evil resident evil 5 and 6 included. Very forgettable story, and as a game.... Well I will remember fondly exploring the ship, but the other action set pieces....meh. Speaking of it I actually am baffled by how much I forgot of this game.... As a resident evil title it is decent, but a 3ds game? There are better games out there...
This list gets 1000+ exp for listing Ever Oasis, Fantasy Life, Bravely Default and Bravely Second. There are sooo so many amazing games between DS and 3DS. I could never choose. But those games, either one or some, don't always show up on lists.

I WANT to like Tomodachi Life, but I can't. First of all, I was disappointed when it was sold as a game that was supposed to have a lot of funny and crazy drama… The thing is, though, nothing is crazy. After playing for about two weeks, you hear the Sam few lines over, and over, AND OVER again. The game is so repetitive. Not only that, but also slow. Nothing is chaotic. You have to wait hours for anything even mildly interesting to happen. The thing is, though, whatever is 'interesting,' as I said before, is just the same as last time, and completely repetitive. I'm sorry, but the game was falsely advertised. The game is also extremely empty, and it needs a lot more. Basically, it's a great idea with LOTS of potential, but it was severely flawed and is capable of nothing but boring me within minutes. I want to give the whole concept of the game a chance, though. Nintendo needs to release a sequel to the Switch with much more creative dialogue and content.
3DS > Switch as far as portable gaming goes. Streetpass alone is STILL such a joy. Don't get me wrong, I love my Switch, but it feels more akin to a portable gaming laptop than a pocket handheld. Cool for vacations, but not so cool for daily life. If you don't have a 3DS, I highly recommend getting your hands on a 'NEW' 3DS model (either regular, 2DS, or XL) and installing custom firmware onto it. This allows region-free gaming and also allows you to download your collection so you can take it ALL with you, no cartridges needed. LONG LIVE PORTABLE GAMING ON THE 3DS
Nitro Indigo A remake completely remakes a game from the ground up whereas a remaster just makes the game look a little prettier and improve the frame rate
Broken games In that case, if you don't have either, best get a Vita or a Switch. The 3DS is jam pack full of turn-base RPGs, but action games are pretty limited.
Ya but this video also has Smash Bros. 3DS on the list when WiiU is clearly better. This video isn't about which one (if a game is on multiple platforms) is better, rather just what are the best 3DS games, and I agree KHDDD as a 3DS game should be on there.
Just got my first 2DS XL (first handheld since the DS and Vita), and a lot of these games look great. My 2DS XL came with Mario Kart 7 :D which has been so much fun, even online, and I picked up A Link Between Worlds for my first real adventure game, and LOVE It. Can't wait for Super Mario 3D land and Ocarina/Majora's and others.
I can never find much fun in MKWii anymore. I used to love it, but now it’s one of my least favourite Mario Karts. The only ones that I like less are MK64 and Super Mario Kart.

Majoras Mask for me was the better game as well back in the day and it continues to be the superior game to Ocarina of time but then again this is mostly a matter of opinion. It was also much harder in general.
ikaruga24 I liked Ocarina of time more due to the story line. I really enjoyed getting to know the map and all the different clans (as in gorons and Zora etc).
Yes but they did say Pokemon won't be (after Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and not including Mystery Dungeon or other "non-main" pokemon games could still be on 3DS) on 3DS anymore because they pushed it to it's maximum potential (according to them, but I agree) on the 3DS and they can't get any better (or improve with new stuff and what not) on the 3DS. Now if the the 3DS actually has a legitimate "next-gen" successor aside from the switch maybe but not with the current 3DS systems
Our kids have Switch Lite and 3DS. Both systems are great but the 3DS has many creative ways to play. From tilting to using the stylus, blowing air at the mic and pressing buttons and the dual screens. It provides more play styles. I hope that in 2020 and beyond that people will figure a way to keep it alive and add upgrades to the screen like what we see from 3rd party manufacturers with the Gameboy Advance and its IPS addon.
Another great game you guys missed is Virtue's Last Reward. It might suffer a bit by being a sequel to the equally obscure 999 Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors for the Classic DS, but it is a solid blend of visual novel storytelling and escape the room puzzles that kept me engaged all the way through.

What he means is that it's a mix between three different games.
I have a Switch but I still play my 3ds allll the time, almost daily. It's much more convenient to travel with. Battery life way better than Switch Lite for travel. I have a MASSIVE collection of games and the ds and 3ds library is perfection. I keep buying games, carts and digital, to this day. Whatever 3ds you own don't get rid of it. These are just such a perfect piece of gaming history and a blast to play.
I didn’t buy a 3DS until 2020 (the pandemic got me to do all sorts of weird things). Now it’s my most played system. More than my Switch, more than my PS5, and more than my Series X. Before that I bought a Wii U which kinda lead me to buy more Nintendo stuff. And would you believe that I never owned a DS or a GBA? So all those libraries were suddenly available to me with this one little handheld. Until it’s easier to hack the Switch, my 3DS is going to continue getting tons of play by me.

I know I might be the only one but I thought the Yo-kai watch series deserved a spot I mean the games were very fun in my opinion and It had so many places to explore and expanded every game also not to mention in the sequel fowards your Yo-kai friends could follow you and even after the story you had so many things you could do even side missions I think it was way ahead of its time and deserved a spot at least

GBA and DS don’t compare to the 3DS. The only reason they have sold more units overall is because the 3DS has had to compete with the rise of smart phones since its inception. All things considered, the 3DS has done amazingly well
I also love the backwards compablity with the DS.
The lack of a Professor Layton and Ace Attorney game is criminal. Those BOTH had 2 great games on the 3DS and even a crossover (I would cheat and put one of each plus the crossover). I would've also had a different top 5 but that's subjective so I won't jump on you for that. (Also including OoT & MM on there is unfair, OF COURSE they would make it; they're all-time great games but LBW shouldn't be looked down upon, I'd have that in my top 10)

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't play them because if they did they'd be on here (I mean there were games on here I hadn't even heard of). Which did you prefer, since on 1 per series, Miracle Mask or Azaran Legacy? I personally preferred the Azaran Legacy. But if you go to Ace Attorney between Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice that one is harder. I might have to go with DD just because there is one case in SoJ that I felt was kinda a dud, that was how close it was for me, just one ok case bumped it down slightly, both have great stories but one game I felt had 5 great cases (add in that DLC one too) where the other one had 4 great cases and 1 so-so one (although, I will be honest, I got busy hand haven't touched its DLC, so may its DLC is so good it does slightly push it up). But I would also throw Pheonox Wright vs Professor Layton on my list as well, if you hadn't played that I'd suggest it.
Azran Legacy and Spirit of Justice are phenomenal experiences

I like animal Crossing new leaf And I got a lot of hours out of it I recognize it’s a great game but it’s a weird pick for number one overall. It’s probably the best game in the series so far and one of the best games on 3DS but I still have to say as much as I like its genre is probably too much of an acquired taste to declare it the best game on the system. The number one overall Game probably should be something I could put in Anyone’s hands and there’s a 95 percent chance They’ll love it

I don't think you can use the c-stick with Ocarina btw. Only Majoras. Ocarina was made long before the New 3DS, so they weren't even aware of a c-stick.
Gordon Freemason there is a 3DS Circle Pad to add a extra Circle Stick to the Old 3ds and 3DS XL.

Link Between Worlds is still visually stunning, extremely replayable, and a great sequel to Link to the Past. My all time favorite game on the 3DS.
It felt repetitive to use the same world again imo. But i liked the painting mechanic
Bosses are too easy imo. Also I don’t like how the armor is set up, would’ve been better to make them purchasable from shops as the story progressed.
Ace Attorney is my number 1.

The Ace Attorney series is a mix of visual novel, detective work + courtroom battles, where you defend your innocent clients and learn the truth of what had happened. The characters are colourful and full of personality, the cases interesting and I cannot get enough of them.
Playing the first AA game in the trilogy collection for the first time at the moment and I wholeheartedly agree. As someone who's never played a single visual novel I am thoroughly enjoying it.

There is a ton of great games for the 3DS. I originally got mine for Pokemon X on launch day, but it quickly became my Monster Hunter machine because it has MH3U, MH4U and MHG all on one amazing system.

I got mine for Pokémon! After finishing Sword a few weeks ago, I have an itch to play the games I missed since I never owned the 3DS family. I also wanted to play Majora’s Mask and some of the Mario games. I got Link Between Worlds fairly cheap, which I’ve heard good reviews about. It’s really a great handheld system. I regret not owning a 3DS sooner.
Guys it was the best thing, ive ever done.. I bought a New 3ds XL + 64GB SD Card.. I homebrewed it. I'm playing GB, GBC, GBA, DS and 3DS Games.. damn.. i got at least 20 Games for each Handheld Gen.
p.s a New 2DS XL might be better, because of the New 3ds XL loose build quality at the top screen

I just want to say that Omega Ruby was my favorite Pokemon on the 3DS. My close 2nd was Sun and Moon. I never played Ultra Sun and Moon, though.

I want another next gen handheld system from Nintendo with PS Vita-like graphics, hi-res screen, a true Control Stick that replaces the nub, 32GB of infernal memory (since that seems to be the Nintendo standard), better speakers/sound quality, maintain the 3D effect feature, but improve upon it, remove backwards compatibility with Nintendo DS games if it means that the handheld will be bigger and thicker, because of that inclusion, and multi-touch screen on Top/Bottom.
I really hope Nintendo makes an announcement regarding a next gen handheld in 2018 for release in later 2019/early 2020. They just have to make at least one more addition to the Nintendo handheld family.
Well, Pokemon's next main series game is on the Switch, so i believe the 3ds is pretty much died. The Unreal engine 4 support is probably what makes the Switch more appealing in my opinion. I've worked with UE4, and it's a breeze. nothing too complicated unless you want it to be.
Well you could always get a switch as and use it as a handheld only system, it's getting very very good 1st party support and some good 3rd party games here and there to give you options, it also is pretty powerful for a handheld so you know nintendo is gonna crank those 1st party games up to 11 XD

I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that Mario Maker 3DS lacked not just Miiverse, but rather lacked all online functionality. In contrast, I believe the WiiU version can still share and play online levels even without Miiverse. This makes the 3DS version seem nearly worthless.

Unless there was an update im not aware of, you are correct. There are random levels from the Wii u version in the 3ds version but other than that, it lacks any kind of level sharing or online functionality.
Mario maker on 3ds does have a mode that the Wii u version does not, and that is the super Mario challenge.
Honestly, I just finished this mode recently and it was amazing, I think it's worth getting the 3ds version just for this mode.
That mode sounds fun, but there is little point in creating levels if you can't share them. Also, I just want to try the famous levels and stuff. I really, really, really hope that Nintendo comes to its senses and allows those features at one point.

I mean not really. Resident evil 7 was what the series needed. Revelations was more of the things that could have been, but with the horrible aspects of resident evil resident evil 5 and 6 included. Very forgettable story, and as a game.... Well I will remember fondly exploring the ship, but the other action set pieces....meh.
Speaking of it I actually am baffled by how much I forgot of this game.... As a resident evil title it is decent, but a 3ds game? There are better games out there...

I WANT to like Tomodachi Life, but I can't. First of all, I was disappointed when it was sold as a game that was supposed to have a lot of funny and crazy drama…
The thing is, though, nothing is crazy. After playing for about two weeks, you hear the Sam few lines over, and over, AND OVER again. The game is so repetitive. Not only that, but also slow. Nothing is chaotic. You have to wait hours for anything even mildly interesting to happen. The thing is, though, whatever is 'interesting,' as I said before, is just the same as last time, and completely repetitive. I'm sorry, but the game was falsely advertised. The game is also extremely empty, and it needs a lot more. Basically, it's a great idea with LOTS of potential, but it was severely flawed and is capable of nothing but boring me within minutes.
I want to give the whole concept of the game a chance, though. Nintendo needs to release a sequel to the Switch with much more creative dialogue and content.
3DS > Switch as far as portable gaming goes. Streetpass alone is STILL such a joy. Don't get me wrong, I love my Switch, but it feels more akin to a portable gaming laptop than a pocket handheld. Cool for vacations, but not so cool for daily life.
If you don't have a 3DS, I highly recommend getting your hands on a 'NEW' 3DS model (either regular, 2DS, or XL) and installing custom firmware onto it. This allows region-free gaming and also allows you to download your collection so you can take it ALL with you, no cartridges needed. LONG LIVE PORTABLE GAMING ON THE 3DS

Just got my first 2DS XL (first handheld since the DS and Vita), and a lot of these games look great. My 2DS XL came with Mario Kart 7 :D which has been so much fun, even online, and I picked up A Link Between Worlds for my first real adventure game, and LOVE It. Can't wait for Super Mario 3D land and Ocarina/Majora's and others.

Majoras Mask for me was the better game as well back in the day and it continues to be the superior game to Ocarina of time but then again this is mostly a matter of opinion. It was also much harder in general.

Yes but they did say Pokemon won't be (after Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and not including Mystery Dungeon or other "non-main" pokemon games could still be on 3DS) on 3DS anymore because they pushed it to it's maximum potential (according to them, but I agree) on the 3DS and they can't get any better (or improve with new stuff and what not) on the 3DS. Now if the the 3DS actually has a legitimate "next-gen" successor aside from the switch maybe but not with the current 3DS systems

Our kids have Switch Lite and 3DS. Both systems are great but the 3DS has many creative ways to play. From tilting to using the stylus, blowing air at the mic and pressing buttons and the dual screens. It provides more play styles. I hope that in 2020 and beyond that people will figure a way to keep it alive and add upgrades to the screen like what we see from 3rd party manufacturers with the Gameboy Advance and its IPS addon.
ORAS had the better story mode IMO. The newest game in the series will inevitably have the best multiplayer experience though.

Another great game you guys missed is Virtue's Last Reward. It might suffer a bit by being a sequel to the equally obscure 999 Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors for the Classic DS, but it is a solid blend of visual novel storytelling and escape the room puzzles that kept me engaged all the way through.

Resident Evil Revelations is one of the best games on the 3DS. Why is it not on the list ?
Its not only a great game but it also blows my mind how they delivered this quality and size on the 3DS!
