    Great to see the resurgence of Puma as a running brand. As you know I’m a big fan of the Deviate Nitro Elite, cracking shoe in my opinion.

    Hi Andy, I work in a running shoe store and let me tell you, the height of the heel collar is something I think normal people vs dedicated runners have a very different preference. I'd say overall, most "normal people" who run prefer a much higher heel collar than us more dedicated running shoe nerds/runners. For example, the height of the Pegasus or Clifton (usually low collar height) is a deal breaker for many people, even tho they don't have any heel slipping.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s really interesting to hear, thank you for sharing! It can be a deal breaker for me but thankfully it wasn’t an issue when running!

      Bro I don't like the new Ultraboost Heel Editions since 2021 they run way worse than the 2019 shoe. 😂

    I love the Velocity 2 and Deviate Nitro 1. I really want to get my hands on the Fast-R but finances have not allowed it.

    Seems like they used the same concept as the Saucony Tempus, softer core with a firmer foam frame, although the Tempus is for faster paces. Will have to check this one out.

      To be fair, it’s a super comfy shoe and I loved the velocity nitro 2, the midsole is the perfect blend

    Thank you for the review! I have too many awesome shoes right now, tried puma deviate 1 and found it too firm to run In frequently but want to try version 2 when my current shoes wear out .

    I’m loving the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. I know that a lot of people had issues with heel slippage in V1. They fixed that in V2. The upper fits me perfectly with no slippage. There is some nice padding in the tongue to avoid lace pressure, durable grippy outsole and a nice bouncy ride with the plate in there to give you a little bit of pop. Can handle easy to tempo paces really well. A really versatile excellent shoe from Puma.
    I don’t think the forever run is one that I’ll pick up for now, since I also am not a full on stability runner and have some other good easy day shoes.

      Amazingly, I’m looking at the deviate nitro 2 as a trail racer for up to marathon distance 😂

    • @runwithsean
      @runwithsean ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can actually see that working. Haha. It has the cushioning and the traction for some light trails.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  ปีที่แล้ว

      That could be as I’m landing more forefoot in the shoe and not putting too much pressure through the heel, the midsole foam is the same throughout 👍

    The shoe rubs me a bit under the ankle too, nothing that has caused me irritation so far, but I have only walked in it a couple of km so far. I am not a runner, just a walker. It was unclear to me how bright orange this shoe is. Highway flagger orange I'd call it. It is quite comfortable.

  • @elliotendures

    Is this toooooo similar to the Tempus to have both?

  • @TimGrose
    @TimGrose ปีที่แล้ว

    Presume though you would not obviously buy a "stability" shoe for daily training if you get on OK with "neutral" shoes and of which there are many options for daily training.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would buy neutral yes as a rule 👍

  • @brokenfreddy7676

    I use quite a few of Puma shoes and my favorite is the fastr..I prefer the higher heel collars..nothing is as distracting as a heel that feels like it's gonna fall off..my only complaint with puma is that the drop is higher than needed..it's good to see more brands are settling in around 5-6mm in their better shoes..as a forefoot runner with high arches, higher drop shoes put too much pressure on your forefoot..as such the elite V1 doesn't have enough cushioning for a long run shoe for me..probably will get V2 cos I read they added some cushioning and made the foam slightly firmer..

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to hear puma work for you! Im not too different from you I suppose, I think 6/8mm is my sweet spot but I don’t mind 10 at all as I often find if I use a carbon plate shoe my calfs can be a bit tender so 10mm takes the pressure right off them

      @brokenfreddy7676 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheFODRunner I know that many people like the high drop shoes cos they feel faster..myself included..unfortunately every time I get an injury it was in higher drop shoes and on downhills..this last fall I bit the bullet and started using zero drop or low drop shoes as my everyday shoes hoping to not get injured again..all injuries have involved the hip/knee area..maybe just getting too old..

    Thanks for your review. A lot of testers mentioned that this shoe could be convenient for a neutral runner but you seem to think differently. Are the stability features a source of concerns or eventual discomfort for neutral runners? Thans you in advance for your reply.

    Are these a replacement for the Magnify? I got a pair of those in the sale and only ran in them once....didn't enjoy at all so it's gym or casual wear only!
    I did pick up the Nitro Elite v1 from Start Fitness for £85 (still available at that price) and absolutely love them so I'm not writing puma off!

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t tried the magnify but I do think they match up in terms of their intended usage…. I don’t know what the midsole foam was like in the magnify but these are very very comfy. I wasn’t a fan of the deviate nitro v1 but loved the liberate nitro and the velocity nitro, and now this 👍 I’m hoping for 2023 the midsoles are going to be more like this one as it’s really lovely

    Does it have a bit of pop for faster runs or race days, or do you think it’s firmly in easy run territory? I overpronate and I use the Saucony Guide 15 as a daily shoe, and the Tempus for faster work as it has a bit more bounce. Interesting to see what this shoe ends up being a competitor against.
    I’ve also got the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 which I love - great for short runs on grass and trails, it’s my staple for parkruns at the moment!

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a good match up with the velocity nitro 2! But I wouldn’t say it can pick up the pace too much, it very much felt like an easy day shoe only for me 👍

    • @MadLadsAnonymous
      @MadLadsAnonymous ปีที่แล้ว

      How's the Velocity Nitro 2 for your overpronation? Any stability at all?

    • @Nick-pk4sq
      @Nick-pk4sq ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MadLadsAnonymous I wouldn't use them for a long run, but they're okay for shorter runs. They have a reasonable heel counter and a bit of width to the sole, so don't feel too wobbly. By contrast I have a pair of Speeds 2 that I save for PB attempts at 5k and little else because they are so unstable. I must admit I got them mostly because they were dirt cheap in a sale and I couldn't resist a bargain... but they've worked out okay!
