  • The Asics Gel-Kayano line has long been synonymous with all-out stability. For those runners looking for a high level of support, it’s an option that sits at the top of the list, but has offered little versatility for runners who want a balance of stability, comfort and enjoyment.
The Asics Gel Kayano 30 sees one of the biggest revamps the shoe has seen for a long time, featuring an increased level of cushioning, a new FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam and a 4D Guidance System that aims to provide a more natural level of stability.
The Puma ForeverRun Nitro is a stability running shoe that veers more towards the subtle side of support. The NITRO midsole foam features two foam densities - a softer middle section and a firmer outer, aiming to be both responsive and cushioned. There’s an asymmetrical heel counter to hold the foot in place and a wider medial rubber segment to improve stability.
Other design features PWRTAPE on the upper to improve support, a RUNGUIDE rail to keep the foot centrally aligned, an impressive PUMAGRIP outsole for traction across different terrains and conditions.
Tom has been testing the shoes out which he'd pick as his stability option.

I just finished a one-and-a-half-hour zone 2 run in the foreverrun nitro, I have 210 miles on it so far and my experience with the upper is quite the opposite, I love the fit, I use a runner's knot and find the lace is a little too short, but overall, it's quite breathable, doesn't feel heavy after a long run and the price is right. I will be getting another one of these, it just works for me.

I tried several brands of running shoes but always had plantar injuries repeatedly, and was able to recover from the plantar and run comfortably until now with Puma running shoes.

Forever Run Nitro is my daily treadmill training shoe - agree the fit feels a little loose or uncomfortably tight, but I changed the laces in mine for slightly longer ones and that's worked quite well for me. Of course running on a treadmill mitigates all of that cornering malarkey, but as a comfy, easy, stable, daily cruising milage shoe that doesnt leave you fatigued or stressed then it's really hard to beat - especially now it's widely available at half the launch price at around £70 - it's a lot of shoe for the money!

I wear a size 11, and though I don't have a wide foot, it definitely is not narrow. The Forever Run is an excellent shoe for me, and I don't need stability. I bought them on a lark, because some of the colorways were priced at $70 locally, so I said why not.
its a great long run shoe for me.., probably for the next long while.., it just eats up miles, with little sign of wear.

I prefer the FR nitro. I experience the same issue with the lacing - it comes undone easily. Might have to switch the laces. Other than that, a great great comfy shoe for my easy runs.

When you flip these two shoes over to look at the outsole, I wish Puma would leave a stability model less narrowed in the midfoot. This is from the perspective of wanting greater stability, as Tom gets into a bit around 8:08.

OK then, subscribed since you put it that way:) It's just that the videos I've seen from you guys were a touch "too neutral" for my liking, if that makes any sense. Eitherway, thanks for the effort, appreciated. I am thinking of buying this as a "do everything shoe" to leave at my parents holiday house, so that I don't have to bring a pair everytime I go there. That's because of an 83euro sale right now which seems like pretty good value. I would ideally go for yet another pair of Deviate Nitro 2's (which I have), but those are not on sale.

I ended up getting the Asics GT 2000 12 instead of the Gel-Kayano 30 ( I might get it in a Black Friday deal !) and this was my first Asics GT 2000 I have used. So far, this GT 2000 12 is far superior to all other stability shoes I have tested, and that includes Asics Kayano Lite 3 and Gel-Kayano 29 ! I bet that I could not go wrong with the Gel-Kayano 30 !

Thanks for the review, Tom. As someone who made a mistake buying the Tempus I think I’ll avoid the Nitro. Still need that Kayano to drop in price before I’m willing to try it.

Tom just did a similar Tempus vs. K30, two weeks ago. Sure sounds like you'd stick with Tempus. K30 is perhaps more stable, but it's a bit bulkier, slower, along the general lines of Nimbus 25. I think Tom gets these about right. If Tempus was stable enough for you, the others are probably less nimble.

@@q20a08 Oh really? Thanks, I must have missed that video. Having watched this one though I would rule out the K30 as for the reasons you mention above, the Nitro is the more interesting trainer but from the sounds of it there's a little more squish in the Tempus, which I need.
