- This interview comes from the mysterious KISS black box. Apparently these black boxes were sent to radio stations with pre-recorded answers to questions so the radio station could appear to be interviewing KISS. I cut out the dead air and cleaned up teh audio the best I could. Enjoy!

Paranoia Perception it was only considered a disaster because the record company printed 4x too many copies and didn’t recoup those costs. The records sitting in bins in record shops made it look as if they didn’t sell well, when they actually did alright.
Each of their albums sold million copies and would have been just fine had they not went way fuckin over printing copies.that is what killed a great idea.i never really understood why the hell they did that.if went into a greater demand they could have always printed more within a short ass time and made more money.
I always felt the acoustic version of "Beth" from the Phantom movie would've been a perfect addition to Peter's solo album, and perfect timing too since both came out around the same time.
I was one of the biggest KISS fan that had all KISS albums & merchandise Gene Simmons was my favorite Bat Lizard. I loved all 4 solo albums.
I still remember the ads on the backs of comic books, it showed all 4 albums and simply said "KISS A Milestone", pretty cool ad.
the solo albums were a great moment in KISStory, I was in high school when they came out and seriously it was the most exciting thing to ever happen........I love the album covers always have
Love this album. I've really listened to it more in the past years and love Radioactive, See You Tonight, Tunnel Of Love., Living In Sin, Mr. Make Believe
I use to have the Black Box promo, I bought it at a Garage Sale. There was 3 songs per member plus interviews. It was stolen by my brother's friend. I could never prove it, but he was asking about it, than it went missing.

This is from the Kiss "Black Box" which was given to radio stations to piece the audio clips together to make it look like each member is in the studio without the band having to be there.
Simmons solo album was my first Kiss album.Then a year later a friend of mine in 3rd grade who's name was Doug Love,gave me Kiss alive 2,and his father was a Dr.Dr Loves son gave me a Kiss record.Still blows my mind a bit lol

I thought that Aces album was the best , with Pauls a close second , then Peters , then Genes . Radioactive is the best song on Genes solo album .

I though Genes was better than the one by Criss. The remake of See you in your dreams was the best track imo.
Someone recently mentoned they liked Paul's over Ace. What makes Ace's album is that its consistantly Ace. Every song. I dont think NYG is that great . Gene's has a intersting feel and sound to the record.
Genes album wasnt what i was expecting on the 1st listen, i dont think it was for many listeners going into it, but cant deny its a damn good solo album!

Katey sagal( married with children/ Peggy bundy) was a backup singer on his solo album.shr was discovered by gene and also dated him for awhile. she wanted gene to marry her but he laughed at her when she told him either he marries her or she was going to marry Freddie buckmeier bassist of the paul butterfield blues band...she married Paul and they divorced 3 years later.

Don’t think I’ve ever heard it either. His most effusive interviews always seem to be the ones where he’s discussing his favorite subject - Gene Simmons.

Contradicting,...he clearly says I dont play bass at all on the album, he plays all the acoustic & electric guitars ..... few minutes later specifies Joe perry & Jeff Beck & several others as guitar players. Oh But KISS has been known to contradict themselves on occasion.
I think that he was talking about the rhythm parts, and it can be true. Honestly I don’t think he can play good leads on guitar

Ingenious idea to send these out to radio stations, that way these stations could claim to present a KISS member's interview!
Now that I think of it, I do remember Gene and Paul doing interviews on my local station back in late 78 or early 79. I don't remember if these were the interviews I heard or not -- it was over 40 years ago -- but I think at the very least, my local DJ at least overdubbed the questions. I sort of remember the interviews being original, but I really can't tell. I should have taped them with my cassette recorder.

Really difficult to believe if you listen to this recording. He lists many different guitarists on each song-including Rick Neilson.
they took a year off in 1978, they couldnt stand each other, recorded the soloalbums to make the fans believe everything was still ok in the band,. it wasnt. peter was fired right after dynsty tour due to his drugproblems. he admits later now that he was crazy becasue all drugs. ace left himself 1982 saying if he stayed in kiss it would have killed him with that drinking. believe him.
Peter wasn't fired, he quit. They tried to get him to stay just as they tried to get Ace to stay when he quit.
@@jameshughes6049 so you were there in that room where peter said he wants to leave kiss? I read and heard everywhere that peter was fired, dynyasty tour was a complete mess an peter said later he was crazy using all that drugs. he was complainin about everything he was fired, and ace left in 1982

Wow, I thought he played the bass on his solo album. Gene loves money more than music why would he fork out cash on someone else, interesting to know how many songs he didn't play on kiss??

Eric Carr did a lot of the Bass tracks in the 80's, when Gene was making movies.

I had Ace and Paul one and two. Although I've been listening to Paul more since 2010 and Paul's could be the best. Ace second. I've never listened to Peter's that I remember. Genes has its moments. Definitely Ace and Paul's are the best from what I've heard. I will investigate Peter's album. When You Wish Upon A Star turned me off from Gene's album.
I like swing and jazz so Peter's is alright but Gene's had me like wtf! Am I listening to?

Getting along better than ever? A complete lie. Years later we all know the truth. He does an awful lot of boasting about his solo album, saying this person and that person is on it.
I was a huge kiss fan but Genes album was lackluster to me. Unfortunately the bands best years were behind them at this point
Gene admitted his made his album annoying on purpose to question the taste and intellect of the fans, Gene thought they were dumb.

I remember a magazine interview when the album came out, Gene saying it was the devil trying to "enter" a virgin.
I'm thinking Gene was a little with the success of Ace's New York groove...just like he and Paul have always been pissed that Peter Crisses Beth was Kisses only number one hit....(No matter who wrote it)

@@tablespoon888 They were deeply jealous of Peter after that, especially Paul. They were also pissed that Ace's 1978 solo album outsold both of theirs (and Peter's).
People always say Ace Frehley's album is the best, why?? Cause it was the only one with a hit?? A minor hit he didn't write. Yes it is a great album but not the best of the four. Paul Stanley has the best album of the four, more consistent, no experiments, just good Rock and Roll at a steady pace. Gene Simmons for me is the next best one, only thing I can take off is the cover and See You in Your Dreams, the rest covers all the bases in Gene's style. People think he should have recorded a God of Thunder and Almost Human full album to give Gene credit. Ace's is the third in my list, amazing album but some fillers that I don't give anything about since I heard it 79 for the first time. Peter Criss is always on the last place, only because I like the other ones more buy Peter's album is the only one that you put on and get 1970's groovy vibe, it's the 70's all over again hearing it!! So, I love all four of them really, not interested in which one is the best today!! They all are!!

I agree....these releases were much anticipated and it was a very exciting time. But they were terrible with the exception of Aces album. But even that was barely passable. Back In The New York Groove saved that one.
Seriously? I put Ace's 78' solo album right up there with the first 6 Kiss studio albums.

DP was weird, in that there was no song listing on the back side of the lp, if memory serves. The song listing was on the inside of this double album.. It was odd. I remember being kinda disappointed bc it was all songs I already had- but loved the new Strutter78 n Hard Luck Woman.. I thought it was an all new material album bc there was no track listing on the exterior of the lp.. and blah blah blah
on that album, too, the new Detroit Rock City is way inferior to the original..it's stupid blah blablablhblagh bla bl-blah.. Blah! blablabla! blah blah blah blah blah blah

Gene's solo album was awful. It had waym way too many guest stars and sounded nothing like Kiss. The only really good solo album was Ace's which sold the best and had a top 20 hit song.

Ace had the only good album. The other 3 members albums were total and complete trash.
