1. Welcome to the baffling world of Collector's Edition fountain pens. You pay more basically so that not too many other people can have the same pen as you. 2. Some very fine detail you achieve with that Kaweco.
@@fakename287 making a different pen is just more expensive by virtue of using materials that the manufacturer isn't accustomed to. The material orders are smaller so end up more expensive per kg/whatever the order price unit is. Also it's not like they have some magical "drop any material you can think of here and I will shape it into your pen" machines. If a limited edition pen is made from metal instead of regular plastic, or perhaps even plastic that's harder/behaves differently, it adds on a lot of effort vs making regular pens. The less optimised every part of the process the more expensive a pen will get, and that can happen even if it's just a different colour or engraving. That, plus of course the extra companies sometimes put on the things in general. I was thinking about dan just yesterday, not long ago i would never have thought that in my spare time I'd be thinking about a tiny man that lives in the fridge of a guy that ive never even met half a world away.
Don't change anything Peter, about how you do your Peter Draws TH-cam Channel. You're unique, and I rather enjoy your expertise and the fact that you did research on the more pricey pen. Nah, you got it down fella. Leave your style of presentation just as it is. Never try to change perfection. ~❤~ Edits to say: I loved your drawing here btw. I love when you have large sections of pure black colored into the creation. It really makes it have depth. Also how you effortlessly drew the leavey vines was impressive. It was like, "bloop a leafy vine here - now another". Just a sweet artistic gift you have Peter. 😎
DLC coatings are used fairly often on firearms to protect them. It's a pretty tough coating. Thanks for the videos Peter! Unique and enjoyable chill experiences as always! Oh, and I like that you talk about the pens in the start of the videos!
DLC is a real thing and is pretty common in tools used for machining and certain types of pocket knives. It essentially makes a super strong finish that won't wear off and makes the metal underneath rust resistant and keeps it from wearing out and scratching. I guess it's meant to extend the life of the nib or at least keep it looking new for a long as possible
I love listening to the pen unboxing and discussion. I found this channel when I was fountain pen shopping. It was after that I fell in love with listening to the talk during the drawings.

I got the brass Kaweco Sport a little while ago. It's pretty nice. I've always wanted to get an unlacquered saxophone, and if I do someday, I'll have a pen to match it.
DLC is actually a very good procedure to make black coating. It's very durable and can take quite a beating. The problem is that you don't have that kind of stress on a fountain pen nib.
My kaveco BRASS sport is among my favorite pens, if you haven't checked it out you should look into it :) Thanks for everything Peter, you always help brighten things up!

Have you looked into getting a noodlers boston safety pen yet? That pen is supposed to be made as a tool pen for the artist. Seems like it would be right up your alley.
Hello Peter, well I missed getting my Peter pen, again! They seem to sell out very quickly. I got the e-mail notification and by the time I got home it was sold out. I hope they keep re-stocking them! I enjoyed watching this video and I hope that you find your green pen soon. On a more serious note, I love this video as well as all your other ones. Thank you for my weekly philisophical and therapy session! So much to learn by listening.
When I saw the tagline about an improvement on your "favorite" pen, I thought perhaps it was some kind of updated information on why the Muji round aluminum pens seen to be getting scarce (and why the prices jumped to double on the Japanese sites a few months ago, though they're still on Amazon now for just under $18). Yeah, it's the "limited edition" that makes it collectible and thus a premium price. Although, I am glad to see that for that price they include ALL the extras they should, like a converter, a full box of cartridges rather than just one in the tube, AND a clip, and all in a presentation box. I'd go a little higher than you and give them $25 for all the extras (that box of ink cartridges is about $6, too, if you pay full retail some places, and I'd credit 'em an easy $7 for the tin). So, then, you're really only paying about $25 over what the basic Kaweco Sport and all the goodies would cost. It's not to me, but I'm sure there are some Kaweco lovers and collectors who think that $25 is more than reasonable for a limited edition pen with such a small production run. Almost forgot... My Narwhal Peter Pen with a fine point arrived yesterday! I inked mine up with De Atramentis Document Fog Grey. Looks and writes beautifully! A limited edition should have something limited about it though, a unique touch. Different color doesn't really count, at least not with the price difference in mind. Edit: DLC coating kind of makes up for it, or does it? At least it is a legit thing. DLC is used in high-performance stuff like Formula1 engines and drill bits.
Seems like something that the German pen companies do. Release a colour variation in a limited number, it becomes a "collectable." Lamy does the same thing with the Safari or Al-Star (which I find ugly in general, so I'm not adding to the Lamy "collectability." 😁) Just gimme a good writer, and I'm happy. 😉 Oh. As to the black nib. Almost all black nibs tend to have issues with the coating coming off at some point. Not really worth the additional cost, IMO.
