  • In this episode, we visit Kaweco CEO Michael Gutberlet at the Kaweco office, shop, and production facility in Nuremberg, Germany. Michael's love for collecting fountain pens inspired the purchase of the Kaweco brand with his father back in the 1980's. In this video, we discuss how vintage pens inspire the new collections of products, how the Liliput Fireblue is made, how the Kaweco pen business is going, and more!

    Hey Goldspot, this was a great interview! I am an older gentleman who has been using fountain pens since the 80's but have never been apart (or knew about) the fountain pen community. Maybe it's my American heritage (ie. Charles Schwab, Steve Jobs etc.) that I absolutely loved this family re-instituting their family business. I have never heard of "Kaweco Pen's" before but I will learn and purchase at least a few to help ensure their success. All due to this great interview you presented, thank you.

    I really enjoyed this interview. I have three Kaweco brass products and I do feel the "friendship" to the brand. As long as they are loyal to their current philosophy I will try to support them as a customer.

    Really enjoyed this interview. I love “knowing” the owner of a company who’s products I purchase. I can see his love and passion for what he does, and THAT is what makes me a customer. I will purchase my first Kaweco today because of this interview. Thank you.

    Tom, of your three German trip videos this is my favorite. The other two left me thinking "show me more factory shots". But Michael is just so authentic and pleasant and you did a great job bringing that out.

    I own 2 KAWECO Sport and I love them deeply. The nibs write so smooth like much more expensive pens do. A real pleasure. I always have a KAWECO Sport in my bag.
    The only downside is the MINI Converter, wich is useless. U have to refill it all the time, because its so tiny. A piston mechanism for the Sport would be great.

    Have been using Lamy for a while, mixing with Blackwing pencils, but I got my first Kaweco steel the other day. I love the weight, the steel touch, the design, and the nib is amazing!

    I knew of Kaweco for some time, but never considered it, due to the no-clip design! Now, that I own a few and they have clips available...I don't want them, lol...go figure!

    The Sports brass Kaweco with an M nib is the best pen available, bar none. The move to Jowo nibs was very smart. Keep on making good quality pens with smooth nibs at affordable prices.

      If you like your brass sport the Supra is definitely one I would recommend checking out. Since I have it it is the pen that I used the most. I just like this solid chunk of brass and for some reason a pen is build into. Neat little feature :P It also has no clip... I don’t like clips. And the nib has a nice size (No. 6?).

    It would be great if Kaweco would offer the Supra in more (metal) materials. This is the pen model I would start collecting. I would pay a ridiculous price for a titanium Supra. And an extreme amount for an even thicker titanium Supra. A titanium Supra with a grip diameter of 11,7 mm instead of 9,7 mm and a little bit longer section is the pen I would build if I would have the equipment to do it. I would get at least two of them. One with a gold and one with a steel nib for carrying it around everyday. Maybe even a bigger nib like a Bock 380 for example. :) Seriously... That would be 100% the pen I would build. Again in true honesty the thicker titanium Supra is exactly the pen I would like to build. If I would had the equipment to build something similar, I would maybe try to make the cap unbalanced, by having a solid thick part at the very tip of the cap and drill a hole in it (from the inside (obviously not all the way through)) off-centered so that it wouldn’t roll away :) This would be a hidden roll stop that would not ruin the looks. The pen rolling a little bit doesn’t bother me, but it would be a nice feature. Posting would get problematic, but I generally don’t post my pens. The only pen I post sometimes is the Supra, just for fun :)
    Ouh :) I forgot to mention the amazing fit and finish of the Supra. The threads and everything else is very beautifully made.
    The Supra is my first Kaweco :) and I got it not too long ago and now I‘m looking at:
    • „Reiseeuti“ for 6 pens
    • special dip pen
    • STEEL Sport 0,7 mm pencil

      The Kaweco Special Dip Pen will be my first dip pen. I want to use it to testing and archiving fountain pen inks. And a little bit of writing for fun. And this one seems to be very nice, because it is made from solid metal :) Definitely a step up from the cheap wooden ones.

    • @LovkynaPeral
      @LovkynaPeral 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have 2 glass Dip Pens and like them, because i have little collection of Winsor and Newton Inks and with them i cant fill my Fountain Pens. Because it is not Ink for Fountain Pens. So this Glas Pens are perfect for that. But one Kaweco Dip Pen would be really nice Idea..

    • @herrkeks8509
      @herrkeks8509 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I might need to check out some of Rohrer & Klinger non fountain pen inks...
      Regarding the Kaweco dip pen... With 37,50€ (seems to be the standard price for it) I find it to be a good deal. Nice aluminum with a back piece that unscrews so that you can put some nibs in there. At least that’s what people say. I‘ll have to see if there is enough space for that :)
