The good news is that you don't need a server to install it - your desktop and laptop will probably be fine.
In this video:
1. We will download SQL Server Developer Edition - for free. It used to sell for US$200.
2. We will then install SQL Server Developer Edition. What is very important is not selecting all of the options, but just a few.

Sir Good day! im new to SQL. im not sure how did i passed the interview but i was hired as Information Systems admin and i just knew that it focuses more about database. They are currently using MYsql. Please advice on what will be the adjustments and the certificates that i needed since im just new to database. I used to work as IT Support for 5years and this is my first week as a database admin and have zero knowledge :) please help

Hi, everything was going great until the installation part, i got an error: Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server, The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. It is asking me for a path but I don't know exactly why. I would really appreciate some help, thank you!

Dear Fun - both will be fine. The Developer edition does have more features, so if you want to use R or Python in SQL Server, go for that. Phillip

Hi. You can increase the max degree of parallelism (MAXDOP) setting by running
EXEC sp_configure 'max degree of parallelism', 8; -- replace 8 with the number of processors you want to use

I assume that you are using a 32-bit version of Windows. If that is the case, you will need to download SQL Server 2014.

What brought me to your page is SQL server developer installation while having SQL server express already installed…
after installing the developer version..
i had difficulties in connecting to It
What I finally did to connect to the developer version and not the express is :
Server name/ browse / Engine data base/(choose the name of the instance I gave during sql developer installation)…
I was able to connect to SQL developer and not SQL express already installed on my computer (which is the default instance ..the first installed)…
We should take not of the instance name we give during installation it will later on help to connect to different versions of SQL server.
