been rotoscoping for years, its a spiritual discipline one must conquer on the path to vfx enlightenment...retreat from the world, quiet the mind and become one with the spline.
You missed the variable edge feather with polygon masks. Usually most tutorials skip that part but its called double poly in Fusion. Great video regardless.
Another great tutorial, Casey. Thank you for it. I think a rotoscoping tutorial would be great. If we are putting in requests, I’d love to see you do a more advanced planar tracker video using occlusion masks.
I’m glad you touched on the fact that magic mask has its failings. No one talks about that. It’s great for some things but not always. Sometimes you are better off just doing the roto yourself. Yes it’s tedious but I’d rather have tedious than a sloppy mask….grrr! Other than that, great basic tutorial Casey on Masking!
Sometimes I'll run magic mask then run that through merge control to do some edgebrestoration and garbage masks. But yeah, only verry rarely is the matte from magic mask perfectly usable.
I saw some videos where people basically regrew edges on blurred stuff they were masking, using clean plate nodes. Toyed with it myself, mostly getting good results - but some issues to work around. Might be a technique worth covering in an in-depth roto tutorial.
Thanks Casey! I would absolutely love a more advanced roto technique video if you ever fancied to make one. I often times run into issues roto'ing people where my mask looks very jello-y-- i assume because my main anchor points aren't consistent throughout the life of the mask, but I've never had the patience to figure out if my hypothesis was correct. I'd love to hear some of your thoughts and tips on advanced roto'ing!
10:15 yes please make a video. I understand resolve up to a point and have done so much research on it but I still feel like I haven’t learned it good enough to make something that is good enough for me.
good video, yes please more on roto scoping, especially as i have the free version one thing i would like to know, if you use magic mask can you then edit the mask that it has created using points/nodes like you can with nornal masking thnks
It doesn't create a vector. It basically creates a raster image so you can't manipulate it's shape like the mask tools (rectangle, elipse ...). But you can run it through a matte control and do some more work there.
One nitpick here. Calling them "shapes" is probably fine for absolute beginners, but in fusion, Shapes are their own whole category of nodes and tools. And while you can absolutely use shape nodes as masks (if you render them with shape render first), they are not the same, I suspect that it is better to refer to the nodes you use as polygon nodes or bezier nodes (depending on what you use) or mask or roto nodes. Just to avoid confusions down the line. :) Also, leaving out, until the end, how tracking can help out so much with roto and not really showing how. That's very much a tease. 😂 I just thought while watching this, Well a couple of planar trackings on this and you'd do it so fast. No need to deal with the headaches of magic masks and the tedium of totally manual roto. 😅
What if you're chasing your talent at night and there's unwanted cars. how do you get rid of those if you're moving? Is it the same as making the cars be on fire or is one easier than the other?
So Casey, tried to accomplish the mush easier Magic Mask but...once I try to make a cut, the mask disappears. I thought I successfully fully rendered (a real long time) the magic mask but playback is also really faulty in the Edit Page, and as mentioned, the cutting of the clip is impossible without losing the mask applied in the Fusion Page....? Appreciate your help if you get the chance.... Thanks.
I'm surprised that when you said the merge only has one job you didn;t do an insert of "Mergy". LOL Also ... masks drove me insane when I started wiht Davinci ... Iit took me ages to uderstand that I was masking on something that had a different resolution!

I find myself rotoscoping more often than not. You’re right, sometimes it’s what’s best.

I appreciate you going over the different mask tools & what their selection of features do. Knowing what Magic Mask _cant_ do is useful too!

Thanks, soo much I am new to Davinci here ... ur support really helps
Bro rotoscoping in the free version tutorial would be really helpful 😢❤❤
Nice work by the way keep it up dudee
+1 xD
ADVANCED ROTO PLEASE❤❤❤❤❤

Loving your work man. 8-). I learn something on every vid. So much to learn so little time hahahahahah
Great Video! Yes, to more in depth rotoscoping tutorials.
We really want advance roto tutorials

Iv been binge watching your channel for the past week learning fusion, you taught me so much!!! Thank you!
Love the video! Would be great if you did a rotoscoping video. I my self, always have a hard time with it. Would love to see your advice and tips!
yes @7:45 yes advanced rotoscoping please!
very helpful!
I want a video on Rotoscoping!! Love your vids❤
Excellent tutorial Casey, thank you
Thank you 🙏
Rotoscope tracking video please !!
please make a video explaining how to track the mask to make the rotoscoping easier
I love you videos and teachings
Thank you, Casey .👍👍👍
I was literally wondering how to mask in DaVinci Resolve yesterday 💀
I thought there might be some tracker to help with masking . Like when you track a text to some object
good video, yes please more on roto scoping, especially as i have the free version

@@EricLefebvrePhotography thank you for the info, very good to know.
please do the tutorial on rotoscoping!!
I'd love some rotoscoping tips
Yea rotoscoping tutorial next 😆

For sure. Good feedback thanks!
Why don't you use HDR for the dark pictures?

need that matte tutorial 🙃🙃🙃
yeah we need roto course indepth

I can't even figure out how to make a merge
Feed the kids...
I hope they ll ditch nodes, they are so unintuitive and overcomplicated.
This is Armenian Church
it's in Georgia actually. visited it last year! but they do look very similar to Armenian
That was a great tutorial, it would be really beneficial of showing how you had that mask tracked and also the rotoscoping please 🥲. Thank you Casey ✨
How can I make a mask that will make part of a fusion delta keyer screen just assumed to be transparent?
