@@intrudergrid9530 .. I've used dozens of interfaces over a period of nearly 30 years, and they all can be operated with an ASIO driver. There are companies which (foolishly) recommend against using ASIO, but you can still use an ASIO driver. And, in my humble opinion, you should, as it will maximize your performance/latency in your DAW environment.
@@danieklerr you seem to know your stuff. First off what does ASIO even do? Next, when I clicked ASIO I had no audio so I just changed it back to MME (32 Bit). Would that be an issue?
@@mikeomalanga709 .. Hello.. ASIO is driver protocol developed by Steinberg (original developer of the VST, and maker of Cubase), designed to optimize performance and decrease latency. If you chose ASIO and heard no sound, it's because once it's chosen you have to select your interface again as the device for audio input and output. If you go back to MME, it won't hurt anything. Also, if you are using the native audio in your computer, without an external interface, I'm not sure it's possible to use the ASIO protocol. I hope this helps. If not, let me know and I'll try to walk you through it.
This is the best thing I've ever seen about a DAW explanation. Thanks a lot! I thought about switching to Pro Tools but I started with Sonar 4 through 5,6,7, 8 then X1 and X2. Now I am going to Cakewalk by Bandlap.
Hello Bandlab, I am a beginner for cakewalk. I have a problem like this. When I start a new project, I create the MIDI tracks either drums, piano, guitar or other. It doesn't sound. I mean it has no sound. Can you give me any suggestions? I enjoy Cakewalk pretty much.
Press 'P' or go to Edit->Preferences, from there select devices, and check if your input/output devices are correct. If not, resolve the problem. If there are no devices it is most likely that your are using ASIO4ALL, so you need to set it up from ASIO4ALL control panel or simply switch to any other mode.
Thank you for taking the time to do this tutorial. I've been using the BandLab app on my phone for a couple of months, and am now moving over to Cakewalk's Desktop DAW. It's a little daunting to begin with, so this tutorial was really valuable. I predict I will be having a binge on your channel!
Im going thru the EXACT SAME THING!!! LOL Abit OVERWHELMING AT 1ST AS STATED, But gonna be WELL worth it in the Longrun for us BOTH I HOPE !! On the Bandlab App itself, my name is music_maker_69.... maybe we can collab sometime !!!!
Hey John! Well 2 months down the line I can safely say it was well worth moving over to cakewalk. I’ve been able to make projects I could only have dreamed of if I was still using BandLab’s DAW! Best of luck and see you on BandLab sometime!
Same thing happened to me, I solved it by changing the Driver mode back to MME. This might be due to the fact I haven´t installed the ASIO driver yet, so meanwhile it works like this. Edit: That was the problem, after downloading the Asio4All driver and executing the instalation process, you can change back to ASIO and sound will be good and smooth :D
Go to Preferences , then to Playback and Recording and at the Driver Mode choose WASAPI Shared . (ASIO is probably not supported by your audio interface)
Hello, I need help. I am total beginner and followed closely your instructions. I installed Cakewalk with the addons and also ASIO4All. However when I have to add any MIDI device input. I have no options at all. As MIDI device output I only have the option: Microsoft GS Wavelenth Synth. When I go further, I also cant any "SI-Drum Kit" as instrument. My only instrument options are "Default (TTS-1)", "Cakewalk TTS-1", "General MIDI" and "MIDI Only". What am I doing wrong? Thank you for any help.
Had a similar problem. Try Utilities-->Cakewalk plug in manager. On the left hand menu select VST Instruments (VSTi) It will most likely be blank in the registered plug-ins column. At the bottom select 'options' and tick the two rescan boxes then click ok. Now select 'Scan VST plug-ins' and hopefully this should find and add the instruments.
Hey ! How come I only have a MIDI output device and no input device ? Help 😂 Also, I don’t have the drum selection or any other instruments included. It’s completely blank.
You should download all the instruments when you're downloading cakewalk from the bandlab assistant. I'm a newbie to this so I'm not sure how you can get the instruments if you've already downloaded cakewalk, sorry :(
There is an ability to scan for VST instruments from the user interface and cakewalk seems to rescan each time it starts. Did you already solve the issue? Can you post an answer here (to help the others)?
@WFR reading and rereading and trying to figure out a solution . . . When I installed Cakewalk even though checked "install everything," I had no virtual instruments at all but cakewalk could see my usb interface. But no sounds. Solution was that my virtual instruments had not at all been installed (despite having checked the boxes). I had to go back to Bandlab assistant and perform supplemental installs of the other parts. There's a learning curve to MIDI which was one of my problems. To record midi audio you must be sending it to an audio track. But I'm so inexperienced that I question the value of my own advice. Please see my previous post and tell us if you solve the problem. I solved mine. My advice is find a MIDI keyboard. It will do everything you need. And Im convinced we're in the right place.
Thanks for the videos you post. I've searched TH-cam for instructional videos for things like Cakewalk and related home recording topics that match my level of knowledge..........wow!! you have nailed it for me.
Thanks for the video. I've got a question here; I did click ADD TRACK - INSTRUMENTS, but i've only got Cakewalk TTS-1 instead of any of those instrument options as you showed. Why is this?

Any suggestions? (Great tutorial btw) Edit: I have sense bought a midi keyboard (mini lab mk2 I highly recommend it) and it can control the drums just fine so I’m assuming the only solution is some sort of midi input to channel it. Also the mk2 comes with ableton live 10 which has been a lot easier.

I've watched a few other tutorials on Cakewalk previously. But they made it a long drawn out process, talking about all the technical stuff first and not getting to the meat of the program until around the 3rd or 4th vid. This has helped immensely as I was having issues with my MIDI controller setup, which you have explained clearly and without any jargon!

Is it only me, or does Cakewalk take over the audio. After having changed my audio to AOSO in Cakewalk, I couldn,t hear your tutorial any more. I guess I'll have to use two devices in parallel?
Don't know if you got it sorted, but I believe in one of the other video's he covered it. Go to preferences, under Audio and Recording you'll see a tick box "Suspend audio engine when cakewalk is not in focus" I'm pretty sure you need to tick that box.
The issue was a mistmatch between your interface and Window's Default Format. For example, if your DAW project is set to 44k and your Interface to 41, the audio interface will "take over" and prevent windows from using the bus. To fix this you need to change window's default sample rate to the one u usually set your DAW project with work with. Go go Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Right click your Presonus' Main out device (Default device) -> Properties -> Advanced -> change the Default Format to the one your DAW uses. That's it!
if you could do something on the focusrite solo would help input 1 is mic and 2 is guitar but most things want input 1 is there a fix or will this help? ASIO4ALL i don't know
Just getting started as a total noob! Thanks. In order to watch/pause and go into Cakewalk to do what you did, I needed to change the Pref/Audio Playback-Rec Driver Mode to MME. Using ASIO crashed TH-cam...even with Suspend Audio Engine clicked on (which is supposed to prevent the audio conflict). After that I was able to follow along between the video and Cakewalk

Also, this happens whenever CakeWalk is open: imgur.com/a/fXeFjMA It's REALLY annoying as I can't watch your video while adjusting CakeWalk. Do you have any idea what's the problem? Thanks
Hi, thanks for watching. All DAWs tend to struggle when using the internal sound of your system. The error is happening because the audio system is being shared by Cakewalk and other programs. You can do some basic things, but in reality you need a dedicated audio interface for music production. In the meantime, this may help www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Troubleshooting.12.html

Peyton Kasinger Yes, but if your interface doesn't accept ASIO?
Hello Bandlab,
I am a beginner for cakewalk.

I don't get any sound from my computer here, is there anyway you could help please!🙏
Check if the instrument is not muted
Go to Preferences , then to Playback and Recording and at the Driver Mode choose WASAPI Shared . (ASIO is probably not supported by your audio interface)

When I go further, I also cant any "SI-Drum Kit" as instrument. My only instrument options are "Default (TTS-1)", "Cakewalk TTS-1", "General MIDI" and "MIDI Only".
What am I doing wrong? Thank you for any help.

Try Utilities-->Cakewalk plug in manager. On the left hand menu select VST Instruments (VSTi)
It will most likely be blank in the registered plug-ins column.
At the bottom select 'options' and tick the two rescan boxes then click ok.
Now select 'Scan VST plug-ins' and hopefully this should find and add the instruments.

I'm having the exact same problems! :/ did you manage to work it out in the end?

Edit: I have sense bought a midi keyboard (mini lab mk2 I highly recommend it) and it can control the drums just fine so I’m assuming the only solution is some sort of midi input to channel it. Also the mk2 comes with ableton live 10 which has been a lot easier.

Because midi is not noise. It’s only recording key input. No sound. The plug in is just assigned to trigger those sounds to play.

Don't know if you got it sorted, but I believe in one of the other video's he covered it.
Go to preferences, under Audio and Recording you'll see a tick box
"Suspend audio engine when cakewalk is not in focus"
I'm pretty sure you need to tick that box.
That's it!
the sound on sound information was a key difference in beginning tutorials. you hit the right notes ;) on the tutorial

Hi, thanks for watching. All DAWs tend to struggle when using the internal sound of your system. The error is happening because the audio system is being shared by Cakewalk and other programs.
