Sidenote: The singing along is partly because this is a song about Poland, sung in Poland, the refrain even has the polish name of warsaw.
As for his diction, its always amazingly on point, often even when he is singing german parts or names (as one does in WW2 lyrics).

But, even that i totally respect and understanding your point and even agree with it, except that Joakim is the worst big vocalists, is there still a Question!
Does Sabaton actually need a wide range?
I mean, to be honest and because you mention Till (Lindemann) allready, look at Rammstein? What is actually the great thing about them? Their Range if you want to tell it like that?
The Lyrics, the shocking moments and the Pyro-Show. Beside that, Rammstein ist very limited/Basic.
But if you would change anything about Rammstein, it wouldnt sound anymore like Rammstein. Because, the way Rammstein is Build up , is the way it works best. Same with Joakim , it works perfectly the way he does it, which you can see very often with Sabaton Covers. Even if they are made very well, they mostly dont have the same Power in it.

@Never Trust Bob First of all, i have to say sry to everone who are feeling triggered by the next word.
I see it in both direction, if we will look at Joakim in a professionel way of a singer, yeah no question about it, he isnt that great when it comes to the range and how he botch some of the high notes sometimes. You cant disagree with that.
BUT and that is the biggest BUT for me.
I also see the Context between Joakims skills and what Sabaton is actually doing and that is more important for me.
Sure, like we said, he doesnt hit the High notes etc. but that fits perfectly to the whole War thing that Sabaton is Based on. A War always Dirty, yeah i called Joakim singing Range a dirty work, a war never goes by the plan but you will bring the war to an end no matter what. And we all know a war brings casualites but the war will be fought.
The same goes with Sabaton Songs, like Shiroyama! They know exactly that Joakim will probably botch the high notes, but at the End only one thing matters. That audience has a great fucking time and if they have to take casualites to fullfill this. Fine do it.

Sabaton is according to me a somewhat limited band in many regards, but this song and how its performed live in this case is extremely powerful and emotional for me, same with 40:1.
Overall the band is very flat and the studio versions of the songs is not that great, but they grow alot in my eyes (and ears) when they perform live. Heavier, faster, more emotional, positive energy.
I will look into the songs you suggested, maybe they are better when performed live

    • @eruantien9932
      @eruantien9932 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

We can agree on that, but there's even more going on than most people know.
So first we need to notice that the Warsaw Uprising took place after D-Day, so the Western Allies were perhaps a little busy anyway; from the 4th of August (3 days after W-Day) Western forces began air drops in support of the Uprising, initially by the 1568th Polish Special Duties Flight (equipped by and subordinated to the RAF after the fall of Poland), later joined by No 31 and 34 Sqns of the South African Air Force, and No 148 and 178 Sqns of the RAF. The flights were limited effectiveness because the air crews couldn't see the marker flares, there were so many fires of such size that the Warsaw was visible from "100 km away", but the fire and smoke masked the flares (so a lot of stuff ended up where the Polish were notably absent, but guess who wasn't absent). They were also limited in how much they could carry; realising this the RAF and SAAF asked the USSR for permission to use their airbases on the 20th, but on the 22nd Stalin denied the request, referring to the resistance as "a handful of criminals" and saying that the Uprising was inspired by "enemies of the Soviet Union". There were actually incidents where PAF/RAF/SAAF aircraft flying from Italy were shot at by the Soviets because they strayed into their airspace.
Churchill actually suggested to Roosevelt that they send planes anyway to "see what happens", but Roosevelt didn't want to piss off Stalin before the Yalta Conference. Eventually the USSR allowed a USAAF mission to refuel at Soviet airfields, but as that took place on the 18th of September it was a little bit too late. And then they didn't let them do so again until the 30th, once the weather had gotten bad enough that they couldn't fly anyway.
The Soviets did try their own re-supply missions between the 13th and 30th of September, but they ran into the same problems with finding their targets. Also worth noting that given the Red Army stopped about 10 km from the city for ~40 days... So perhaps it's fair to say that they were wanting the Polish and Germans to bleed each other out so they could seize and hold the city with greater ease.
Can we have a shout out to the Hungarians though? Hungarians and Poles have been friendly for a long time, and even though the Hungarians were officially subordinated to the German 9th they treated Polish partisans in their field hospitals, gave supplies (including weapons and ammo) to the Polish fighters they were supposed to capture, warned the Poles about German plans and troop movements. They even staged mock battles, in which the Hungarians "fled" and the Poles "pillaged" their supplies (which often included large numbers of firearms). Once the Hungarians jammed the German radio frequencies to thwart an attack on a Polish radio post.

Not to mention Swedes on average speak better English than many of us Americans do, so I'm not at all surprised at his diction and delivery. Now pleasepleasePLEASE give David Vincent a shot, because one of America's greatest death metal vocalists deserves some attention, IMO--"God of Emptiness" is where you want to begin for a really good showcase of his prowess.

Beth please react to Carolus Rex from Sabaton please. Btw there is no correct way to dance to a metal song. You just move your body to the rhythm.

I don't really know why I watch these. I guess I like watching someone enjoy music like I do.
Edit: also, you should check out Manowar - warriors of the world or call to arms.

    Should watch Opeth "Porcelain Heart"

Because of the clean singing? Burden would be a good alternative to your suggestion. Mikael also explores his clean vocals on the new album and tries some stuff we haven't heard him do before.

As an oldschool Opeth fan - I'd suggest that anyone should listen to old Opeth first - like Black Rose Immortal or anything from Orchid

Beth did listen to Harlekin Forest before. Albeit not an early Song, Mikael had not changed his Style dramatically then, compared to what he did on the early records. So Beth wouldn't hear anything completely new, if she went back there. Northern Michifish probably did suggest Porcelain Heart for the different style of singing, not because it's the new stuff.

@@MajesticDemonLord Also, as a vocal coach Beth is focused on singing techniques and stylistic choices of the vocalists and not so much on the songwriting. Black Rose immortal is a long song, with not much to break down vocally and with all due respect to you and early Opeth, wouldn't make for good reaction imo.

@@tornoutlaw I understand the point - to me, however, Everything up to and including the Ghost Reveries is brilliant - but the first few albums are Mikael at his most emotional - Everything from the Growls, Whispers, Screams and singing has something that I feel Mikael lost.
I think it's best summed up by the Man himself (paraphrased): 'I'm glad when I hear people complain that I don't growl anymore, that means it meant something to them and I'm proud that it meant something'.

There is also the fact that so much of their songs are very emotional for the people all around the world
