I used to live on Island for many years and still miss the place. I now reside in New Zealand but have returned a few times to the island since 1984. Thank you for your very interesting video 😊
Excellent video and superb Lucy Lightfoot content. As a boy, I attempted to escape my childhood by smuggling myself onboard a Norwegian freighter. It didn't work. The dock's guard was not convinced I was a 12 year old merchant sailor despite my best Norwegian accent. Looking forward to more eerie stories.
That would have been some trip. Those would have been the days to do it, I think freighter workers just sit in their rooms and go on the internet nowadays.
Great content Marek as normal. Never get board of the Isle of Wight. What about walking the old railways. I bought a book on the Isle of Wight railways and was surprised buy how much railway was on the island. We have found a few of the old stations and Ventnor is really interesting. There is a model of the site at the Isle of Wight steam railway
I have never been on the steam railway. I should one day. It would be like one of those BBC walking shows, where they do everything apart from go on a walk.
We used to live at Burnt house Farm, Burnt house Lane. My happy hunting ground! The Church and fields and friends living in the cottages, my father doing the hunts from the manor. Brownies in the church grounds and going to Arreton primary School. They were the best times...I remember coming second in the fancy dress competition at the church fete for the Silver Jubilee in '77. I completely understand your strategic planning to avoid cows. On a family walk once in Wales we were met with a herd of cows at the stile we needed to pass to continue. As we attempted to climb over the stile into the field the cattle became extremely aggressive preventing us from going any further. Turning back would have added a few hours onto an already long walk so we decided to wait for the cows to move away from the stile far enough into the field for us to make a run for it. This was a long wait but the cattle eventually moved to roam the field. We made a run for it... But the herd were clearly watching us. As we ran up the hill of the field the herd immediately stopped their roaming and began racing after us. We have never ran so fast. We really did fear for our lives. I sometimes wonder what could have happened if they had managed to reach us.
I can empathise with your terror. I still have nightmares about the field in Brading where they appeared over the brow of a hill and stampeded towards me. It is one I mentioned avoiding in this video.

Ooooh, I do love a ghost story 👻 so this was most enjoyable. Have stood many a time at Knighton Gorges waiting for the house to appear through the mists of time but never on New Years Eve, which is when it is most likely to actually materialise. So it's on my bucket list to get over there on the stroke of midnight. So interesting about Lucy Lightfoot, bless her, and through the ether I heard her whisper ''Judybee....choose the dagger'' 🗡😱....so I've now passed all 3 challenges. There is a fabric patch in the Cool Dudes Trail Pack cool dude. I don't think I will get any more made though as I got them from the company that ripped me off and then went bust.
Sorry you got ripped off… Some people are the worst 😢. I’d love a generic CDWC patch though for my camp blanket/bag if you ever find a decent supplier 😊
There's a place called Roydon Hall, near Mereworth, a few miles from me and it does give me the jitters when I am there on my own - I would never go near it in the dark. Can I make a suggestion for CDWC buffs as they would be handy for keeping my neck and chins warm during the chilly days that are upon us. Your videos make the IOW appear to be a large island full of interesting and cool stuff
That does sound spooky. I have looked into Buffs. The problem is the printing cost triples the price of them which is annoying. I might just carry on making zines. I do love my own buff though.
I found around the back of Osbourne House had a really oppressive atmosphere, The area with the "toy" castle built by Queen Victoria's children and/or grandchildren. Hat with a brim or peak would be good.
Hey Marek ! 😃👍 Another great video. Really enjoying this series. Loved the Ghost stories on this one, really interesting. I loved your "Mysterious Isle" series too. 👍I've won all the Vectis Challenges so far. 😊 My Schoolfriend & I wanted to drive around the world in an old banger of a car, camping as we went. It never happened, but I do have the 'old banger'! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍 Appledurcombe House gave me the creeps. Like a feeling someone is watching you. 😳 Also had that feeling at a Roman settlement remains near Cannock in the English Midlands called "Wall". Very spooky place. Keep doing the Isle of Wight videos, we all love them. 👍😃 Stay cool dude. 😊
Nice one cool dude. I sometimes dream of driving round the world. I need to get a car first. I haven't driven since I passed my test about 12 years ago. Ha.
Maybe Barbara and Iris devised the walk after knee replacements and were feeling blase about joint impact. I can't see them risking their own knees. There's a bit of cycle path near me that goes along an old railway line and there's a long, dark tunnel that absolutely terrifies me. I'm not sure whether it's the ghosts of dead murderers, or living murderers that I fear more, but I always get the sense that someone or something is going to kill me. Avoid it as much as possible, and if I do have to walk through it alone I do a sort of trot-run that makes me feel like an idiot.
😃 I always like your haunted walks and spooky stories, tho I was particularly worried about u in this one, what with all those grey ladies and reapers knocking about. Pleased you made it to the end of your walk safely without bumping into any of the freaky time-travelling, leather-wearing ghostie crowd. Or demented cows! 😅 Nice one! 👍🏼
You definitely need a demented cow emoji me thinks 🤔 and i really need to join your tube channel to get them! Great i.o w storytelling by the way and i think maybe some 'cool dude walking trails maps/poster' could be fun merch. (I believe one of your brothers is quite good at drawing maps) anyway stay cool your official dude #654 🐮
What a cool story concerning Lucy Lightfoot and what a cheeky Reverend! I can't believe someone like a priest or a reverend would ever make up stories to tell people.. Anyway, golf courses are the worst. Becoming a walker has only confirmed for me that golf blows. As far as stupid plans we had about a million of those in high school. I remember once some friends of mine removing the letters at the front of Grapevine High School to rename it rapevine igh cool. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Lastly, I'm starting to shudder everytime you walk by the gates at Knighton Gorges. I hope one day you sneak in there and see what's doing.
What’s the etiquette for eating strawberry laces? I find that the packaging is hard to open and after several miles of walking I just chomp on them like a Neanderthal rather pull out each lace and eat them individually. Btw another great video, Cool Dude
The etiquette is to try and fit as many in your mouth in one go. One packet is roughly three mouthfuls. You can do it in two, but it is a bit unsightly.
As an eight year old in Birmingham my friend and I tried to sneak through the army body searches that were happening at the Central Library (YES - The Library) after recent IRA attacks in the city. They didn't let us terrorist look-alikes get away with that one, I can tell you! I did something particularly dumb as an 11 year old. After watching my pal walk on some ice and fall through (it was only waist deep mind you) I proceeded to do exactly the same thing. Not sure what I was thinking. Perhaps I was feeling hot at the time.
One time at the new cottage we went for a walk further down the road at night, the moon was bright and full so it was quite nice till we turned along the send in the road... Apparently someone was really into wood carving they had about 60 by our count various sized animal and people carvings on their front lawn. All of them with angry, threatening expressions. The worst part is the type of wood they were carved with really did well in the moonlight looking both bright and there yet throwing all sorts of weird shadows all over each other. Their eyes followed you everywhere. We turned around and went back to the cottage.
Make a bum bag!! It felt weird typing that; they have a different name here in the states, but I think it's a vulgar slang word in the UK? I don't want to offend... But I'd buy the heck out of a bum bag.
It is impossible to find good bum bags. I need a big waterproof one that doesn't make look like a total loser. I don't think it is possible to make one like that.
The average spooky things dont scare me. Vampires, werewolves, zombies, monsters, aliens etc etc you can fight them all off. But ghosts on the other hand scare the sheite out of me. Never even seen one. Awesome jumper. I'll need to put on some pounds to fit into they sizes.
Things we planned when younger: I would buy my dad’s house in Brading if he ever moved so I could live there forever. For that I needed the money, which I don’t have, and clearly I didn’t care enough because I live in Cambridge now. Also we wrote Star Wars 7 in Sandown High in 2005 - Also not a great plan.
My stupid idea when I was about 9 was to write to Jim’ll Fix It and ask to spend the night in a department store like Debenhams so I could try on all the clothes and eat all the food. Luckily, he didn’t reply.
A cool idea. I don't know where to get them from. My main problem is I have to order about 100 of everything to get them cheap enough to sell, and I need to sell most of them to break even. Maybe I should abandon the merchandise world. Ha.
@@cdwc and tbh, I really like your creative merch like the Zine. I think that’s why people still ask about the eBay auctions (your art or the op shop finds)
I wanted to get a wheelie bin full of horse manure and pile it up under the giant dinosaur that was in front of The University of Glasgow. I didn't do it because I felt like the police might be able to identify someone who bought a weelie bin of manure and wheeled it through Glasgow. Also presumably dinosaur poop was more like bird poop, looking back.
I worry sometimes because there are looooong gaps between your uploads. Have you gone on your last walk......... Have you been abducted by aliens...... Or have you been attacked by a sheep, cow, squirrel, dog, ( insert other of your choice here ). 'We shall never see his like again" I hear them cry. Then a huge statue is erected ( oh err ) in honour of you, which is later painted pink as revenge by the admirers of that old monument.

Nice one Cool Dude.
@@cdwc Yes to more zines. Is there going to be an upcoming Vectis Trail edition?
I found around the back of Osbourne House had a really oppressive atmosphere, The area with the "toy" castle built by Queen Victoria's children and/or grandchildren. Hat with a brim or peak would be good.
I quite liked the bit around the back of Osbourne House, there are some scary statues there. I really liked the chalet with all the kids gifts in it.
Rewatching July ‘24 (haven’t rewatched the first 2, just a random watch)
Ha.
Excellent as ever Marek.
Nice one cool dude.
Narrow tunnels are the worst. I prefer the ghosts of dead murderers to living murderers though.
😅 Nice one! 👍🏼
5% of my brain on every walk is spent worrying about encountering cows. Ha.
more isle of wight videos
You definitely need a demented cow emoji me thinks 🤔 and i really need to join your tube channel to get them! Great i.o w storytelling by the way and i think maybe some 'cool dude walking trails maps/poster' could be fun merch. (I believe one of your brothers is quite good at drawing maps) anyway stay cool your official dude #654 🐮
I will put the cow emoji in the next vote when I get to the required membership levels. A great shout or maybe moo.
You are klang ✊✊✊✊✊
Idea for merch: Socks with all the emojiis on.
A cool idea cool dude.
It is a holiday let now! You can actually go and stay there, and get haunted by ghosts for about a million pounds!
I can’t remember if Richard Herring asked you this when you were on his podcast. Have you ever seen a ghost?
He didn't ask me that. I don't really believe in them cool dude.
The ice bath was probably good for you. All the elite sportsmen do it.
It would be great if the carvings weren't there the next morning.
I agree. I am more scared of weirdos and serial killers.
I have failed all the vectis challenges so far, I feel it's an achievement in itself.
If you fail all of them you are never allowed to visit the IOW.
@@cdwc talk about high stakes! You better make the next one easy then.
Do you ever get the heeby geebies when you walk somewhere? Legitimately.
I did when I went to that Church at the end of the Boudicca Way.
Is that what is called a one Knight stand ?
Ha.
is it the fridge in arreton manor?
Peacock or pea hen 😊
I admire the reverend; most of us could make up stories but we never get round to it.
I expect it boosted Church numbers a bit.
👋 Hi Mr Larwood
4:35 I chose the dagger. Guess I'm going to back in time to marry the ghost of English noble or something. Idk I wasn't really paying attention.
NOT PAYING ATTENTION??!????
Things we planned when younger: I would buy my dad’s house in Brading if he ever moved so I could live there forever. For that I needed the money, which I don’t have, and clearly I didn’t care enough because I live in Cambridge now. Also we wrote Star Wars 7 in Sandown High in 2005 - Also not a great plan.
Sandown High has been home to some of the greatest ideas of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Tragic you didn't get any peacock points ):
It will almost definitely make the third edition (I say almost as there is a 25% chance of me forgetting).
My stupid idea when I was about 9 was to write to Jim’ll Fix It and ask to spend the night in a department store like Debenhams so I could try on all the clothes and eat all the food. Luckily, he didn’t reply.
That is a great wish. The format to Jim'll Fix It was brilliant, it is just a tragedy it was hosted by a monster.
I take the dagger
I got my stickers and sent you an email. 😊
How about a crossbody bumbag to put all our stuff in??? Stay Cool.
A cool idea. I don't know where to get them from. My main problem is I have to order about 100 of everything to get them cheap enough to sell, and I need to sell most of them to break even. Maybe I should abandon the merchandise world. Ha.
@@cdwc you should if you’re losing more money than you’re making. I would have gotten a jumper but you weren’t posting OS
@@cdwc and tbh, I really like your creative merch like the Zine. I think that’s why people still ask about the eBay auctions (your art or the op shop finds)
I failed the challenge... ah man.
do moor spooky videos please 👻
I wanted to get a wheelie bin full of horse manure and pile it up under the giant dinosaur that was in front of The University of Glasgow. I didn't do it because I felt like the police might be able to identify someone who bought a weelie bin of manure and wheeled it through Glasgow. Also presumably dinosaur poop was more like bird poop, looking back.
An excellent plan cool dude. You could have just asked all of your neighbours to take a dump in your own bin.
Those pesky hills have a name. A PUD, pointless up and down 🤣
This is an excellent term. Thank you cool dude.
@@cdwc thank you for making my day ☺️👍 hopefully bump into you on the trails one day.
The walk may be mediocre, but I'm getting all the challenges. Say hi to your dad from us.
I will pass on my regards cool dude.
This one took me a week to edit and draw all the pictures cool dude. Plus I had to do some other walks.
I was going to go on a rescue mission to China on a mudlark (tiny sailing boat) to rescue the Chinese girls being abandoned to die in sheds in the country. I was 9.
That would have made a great story.
@@cdwc yeah, of a daft 9 year old drowning at sea only meters from the shore. 😂😆🫣
Me and my friend Barry planned to run away from home living on milk stolen from doorsteps
This is an excellent plan.
That sunglasses Marek isn't to be trusted. He's not a cool dude.
Nice 1
