great video, to the point and so well explained. Chirag shows how this Hive thermostat can be installed - helps a tech like me (however I am not a heating engineer nor would I attempt this install myself!!) understand what's involved when a qualified engineer comes to fit my Hive unit to a Valliant 35 combi boiler. Thank for great content!
Happy Days, I only had the wires at the receiver end, and had one spare black wire which was confusing me. I could either get the heating on permanently, or off. Turns out the spare wire was the 'call for heat' and was in the wrong pin. All working now
Great explanation! What would happen if I didn't link the L+1 together? Changing my old Danfoss programmer to a Hive thermostat and can only see a 5 core cable, but only permanent live and switch live cables are connected to current programmer/thermostat, which made my wonder. Many thanks
You may have a separate permanent live feed going to the common terminal. If so then that wire will go into no.1. If not then then you need to put the link in to give power to the common terminal 👍🏾
I have two questions: When I turn on the hot water, does the heating also turn on, is this normal? To have hot water in the kitchen, do I always have to turn on the hot water first using the remote control?
@@cputilitysolutions iv got permanent Live and neutral, then blue in common brown in 3 i think they just used brown and blue rather than 5 core or whatever,
@@ericthekingthekingtheking4842 ok you'd need to check if that blue wire in common is a permanent live and the brown in 3 goes back to the switch live on the boiler. If so then it should work
The HIVE is all connected correctly and sending the signal to the control valve, but the boiler isn't lighting. I've removed the time clock so that is just an off and on on the main panel. Am i missing something?
Hi you have probably heard this question before, but I currently have a dual channel receiver for separate heating and water control (installed myself using instructions) but I will be moving to a house with a comb boiler. Is it possible to wire the dual channel as a single channel? It just seems like a complete waste of money if I have to buy a single receiver. There is a rumour it can be done, but know one has shared a definitive. I want to call an engineer out to do the work but I don't won't waste his or my time if I have to buy a single receiver / kit. Any advice would be great.
@@cputilitysolutions thank you for clarification. I thought it would be something like that but wanted to make sure. I still gonna call an engineer in though at least I know it can be done. Better to be safe.
The earth definitely can't be used as a live or switch wire its also in the cable for protection and testing (r1 +r2 )I usually run a 5 core cable from the boiler to the controller I just find it easier

Thank you 👍🏾😊
Thank you Chirag❤. Short and simple one. Top quality as usual keep it up..
Thank you
Probably the best video on youtube explaining how to connect a hive to a bg greenstar. Keep up the good work
Thank you 🙏🏾

Great videos you’re making with good hints and tips. What’s the black thing you got on your right wrist, is it for work purposes?
Thanks mate, glad you enjoy them. It's a magnetic wristband I got off eBay for holding case screws, etc so I don't lose them 😉
Hi, great video. Is the wiring the same for the Ideal Vouge Max Combi 40?
I've not wired it to a Vogue before but the concept would be the same 👍🏾
@@cputilitysolutions 👍
Good video, no waffle cheers
Thank you 👍🏾
Great Vid!!! Is the Hive Mini programmable or do I need a Hive Active for this?
Yes it is but you need to have the hub I believe
Thanks for the video. What would you do with existing thermostats/heating controls?
You would remove them and depending how they've been wired you could reuse the existing wiring for the hive

I have used this setup and everything fires up and talks to eachother , however i dont get hot radiators? But i do get hot water.. any ideas? Thanks
You might have a faulty diverter valve
@@cputilitysolutions everything works ok when I put my danfoss thermostat back on?

Depends on what kind of setup you have but sounds like you may have a passing diverter or zone valve
hi mate
iv got existing receiver with two brown and two blue do i need to add a link for a hive ? theres no link in this one at the moment
I can't say without seeing the receiver and the wiring setup. It sounds like you've got 2 Live & 2 Neutral probably supplying something else too

Thank you 👍🏾 I just got a set with the tool off Amazon. Was around £20-30

Would need to see if you're getting power on the switch live to the boiler
On older worcester bosch boilers the connector block is soldered to the PCB called ST10. are new ones now losses as shown in the video?
I can only go by what I'm working on 👍🏾
Can you run the cable from the fused spur into the receiver? Then run a cable from their to the boiler?
Yup you can also do it that way too
Which wiring ferrules do you use size wise?
Depends on the cable size, they come in a pack of various different sizes, mainly I use 0.75mm or 1mm

Hi, yes it can be done but you have to alter the wiring accordingly to suit and you leave out the hot water side of wiring

how to wire the hive to a glow worm energy 30c erp combi boiler
Link L-1 in receiver, 3 to RT
When do hive need a link?
When you don't have a Live Out from your boiler
@@cputilitysolutions why would you not have a live out?
@@lostinthoughtscalminsilenc8167 depends on the boiler
How do I get the app to then connect
If you have trouble just contact hive support
also the original clock/timer MT10 clock could have been removed and a filler black insert fitted in its place.

You don’t need the earth. So you can just run 3 core and put red sleeving round the earth and use that as the ch on.
Not allowed to use earth as a live conductor anymore as per 18th edition if I'm not mistaken - but hey I'm no sparks!
@@cputilitysolutionsyeah that’s true. I did see you don’t need to use the earth tho on another video.
@@ChelseaFC190512 yeah the earth isn't needed, but whilst it's there I just terminated it safely 👍🏾

The Hive won’t modulate any boiler making it a poor choice.
