    Alan, I've been waiting for months for a friend to install, but with your help I think I can manage it myself. Haven't got the original instructions for the boiler, but I'll go up in the loft tomorrow and see if I can work it out. Fingers crossed.

    Great video as usual Allen. I would recommend buying the EU version (V3) of the TADO, not the UK Version to use on combi boilers, so that it can be wired in via OpenTherm, E-Bus etc to enable the boiler to make use of Load/Weather Comp. It just seams strange that TADO dropped OpenTherm from their UK versions as not many installers either used it or understood it.

    • @Swwils
      @Swwils 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tado load comp is pretty limited, it only uses radiator flow temps in its model. The weather comp is also quite slow to update, a dedicated local sensor is miles better.

      @@AllenHart999 They are my go to thermostats for combi installs, although I have to order them in from TADO Germany. But well worth it for a wirless OpenTherm option. Also the fact they work with all boilers, like Vaillant, Viessman, Worcester etc. makes them a great choice. But they have their limits.

    • @simonbeal277
      @simonbeal277 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Swwils I'm guessing your not using OpenTherm version, as when you do the boiler runs at arround 37-42 deg C and controls the flow temp. Perfect for retro fits under the new Building Regs Pt L.

    • @Swwils
      @Swwils 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@simonbeal277 it will control the flow temp based on local weather data that is not that accurate or quick to update in the UK. A local sensor can exactly control the curve in the real weather location.

    Hi Allen.
    Thanks for the great video.
    I been installing these for a while now.
    I think you skipped the configuration part.
    Which is the worst bit of the installation.
    For Combi boiler you have to disable the hot water function.
    Other wise it won’t work.
    It works fine with S plan and Y plan.
    But it’s a nightmare on Combi boiler.
    I think I will go back to hive, which is more easy to install.

Its a shame in this wireless age it needs the complication needing to be plugged into the router. good video tho!

    Im using the VIESSMANN Vitodens 200-W B2HB and installed a thermostat in each room. I replaced two of them with the Tado thermostat (wired) and I’m planning to replace all the others in the future. Do I need a additional extension kit or is this enough? It’s not fully understandable for me what’s the benefits of a extension kit.

    Hi, I was going to install the Tado smart wireless thermostat on my Vaillant Ecotec 831 boiler however I spoke with an engineer who said while it can be done on the Ecotec boilers it will not run as efficiently as they would using their own controllers.
    This is due to vaillant having their own Ebus chip and third party controllers can only control the boiler to be on or off rather than gradual heat control, this wasn't always the case with the previous vr65 which I think were opentherm but since the vr66 this seems to not work aswell with third party.
    Because of this I decided to only purchase the Tado radiator thermostats which come with the bridge in order to run those as an extra while keeping my Vaillant controller.
    Please can you or anyone else confirm this to be true?

    The old thermostat receiver is wired into the live out so that makes sense.

      I’m the same, long discussions with support. Yep, they took opentherm out the uk version!
      They tell you to wire a thermostat straight to the boiler and then get a second add on thermo
      Or use a wireless thermostat and buy the old extension kit “somewhere” as it’s discontinued
      Many installers don’t seem to know how to wire opentherm and wonder why we are asking for it.
      If you buy a smart thermo v3 kit it’ll come with the new box which only supports relay. Stupid.
