Been watching the classic episodes during quarantine and I watched this one a few weeks back. Epic speech. Pat chasing down Frank as he's driving off and shouting "FRAAAAAAANK" like a madwoman in a rainstorm after it all came to light was just as brilliant. Pat's a beast and I adore everything about her.
This and the scene where Phil beat up Ian back when Laura was the nanny and grant playing the tape recorder of Phil and Sharon will forever be top 3 most iconic scenes 🤣🤣🤣
Peggy's description of the "award" is priceless, love the final part with "old fashioned wickedness". Plus her venting her frustration about Frank's "capacity to make a cock up of things!"
The actress who plays Pat asked that Barbara not hold back and slap for real, so that reaction of her almost falling over and losing her earring is completely genuine! 😂 Don't piss off Babs

I've never seen an episode of this show or know anything about what's going on or who anyone is. But damn, go Peggy for not taking it lying down. I hope she found a new man who loves her.
Legend has it that the late great Barbara Windsor, 4‘11“, required a 📦 to stand on for this scene. Apparently during rehearsals the directors worried that audiences would find Peggy laughable, despite her trying to come across as formidably fearsome, however with Frank and Pat towering over her, it dwarfed both Peggy and the scene, so a box was inserted to heighten, not only the tension, but Peggy as well.
Those were some genuine face slaps going on right there.....Peggy slapped Pat's earings right off! 😂 Not many women on the square who could do that! Brilliant acting all round, one of Peggy's/Bab's finest moments acting wise I would say. R.I.P.

He had feelings for Pat (which he couldn't help) so wrote her a full letter explaining how he feels so he doesn't leave her wondering "what did i do wrong".... He did a gentleman's thing. Put yourself in Frank's shoes and please tell me - what MORE could he have done? Nothing. He has nothing to be ashamed of.
Back when Eastenders was worth watching!…”But one thing I’ve learned, since I’ve been married to Mr BUTCHER is never underestimate his capacity to cock things up!”…an absolute classic line that couldn’t be delivered by anyone better than the fantastic Barbara Windsor, her emphasis on “BUTCHER” like she had utter contempt for him was so heartfelt and believeable, she was a master of drawing her audience in & really feel a sense of anguish for the character. Barbara was an absolute institution and we were blessed to have her grace our screens, god bless her.

That shock Pat registered when Peggy slapped her was genuine. When Barbara Windsor swiped her hand around to deliver the stage slap, one of those famous (to some, infamous) earrings that Pam St. Clemens wore for her role was yanked out of place and if you pause the video at the 3:51, you can see for yourself how the ear is suddenly bare. (The slight clattering sound may even be the sound of the jewellry landing on the floor, but I'm not sure.) Then the film is cut so that Pat is shown reeling against the bar with the earring automatically in place again.
Proper Eastenders. In this era you had the Steve Owen & Matthew rose storyline, Grants Exit in the Thames, then this, then who shot Phil, then you ain’t my mother, then Little Mo & Trevor, Jamie’s death and Steve Owens death. Just bangers of storylines one after another. Was truly unmissable back then. Then I’d say 04-06 it was pretty bad. Then they introduced Max & Tanya Branning and it had a revival with the affair with Stacey. And they bought in Ronnie & Roxy who were good characters. The whole Ronnie, Archie & Danielle story was great. Then after ‘who killed archie’ it’s been a slow decline. I stopped watching not long after ‘who killed archie’ cause it became unwatchable and I haven’t been back since. I hear it’s beyond unwatchable now. It’s a shame cause back in the day when I was a kid it was unmissable. EVERYONE watched it. Now does anyone???
Right! I hear they're trying to make it like the old days by bringing back old characters but I don't think it will ever have that same feel. Characters aren't the problem, it's the stories.
