Not always. Having a high priced lawyer is always a huge and unfair advantage, as is formerly playing golf with the judge's wife and whatnot. But sometimes the bigger they are the harder they fall, like Phil Spector, Weinstein, Cosby. If she won't plead, I think the full weight of the law will descend on her, and she will not be a very sympathetic figure to a judge or jury.

I firmly believe that Ghislaine Maxwell's motivation was to please Jeffrey Epstein in order to stay connected to him. She wanted to be his romantic partner as well as remain in his elite social circle. To maintain her relationship with Epstein, she was willing to harm young girls--with callous indifference. Maxwell's behavior mirrors that of someone who has antisocial personality disorder (a person without a conscience). Maxwell is not very attractive physically and she has not aged gracefully. But she is the type of woman who will do ANYTHING to have a man in her life. These two factors gave her the incentive to destroy others in order to have Epstein in her life. Hopefully she will remain in prison so she can't harm anyone else. I appreciate Dr. Grande's analysis and the interesting information he points out.

I think she was willing to do anything to keep him. John Preston has written a very interesting book about Ghislaine's father Robert Maxwell - "Fall: The Mystery of Robert Maxwell." At first you find yourself laughing at his bizarre behavior and then feeling bad about laughing because Robert Maxwell was so traumatized and mentally unwell. He used to order a tray of food from the kitchen. Then he would drop the tray, smashing everything on it, and order a new tray of food. And that was one of the less worrying things he did. No wonder that Ghislaine ending up knocking around with awful people.
I have just finished the book by John Preston today. I was a little bit surprised by it because I thought it would be more condemning of Robert Maxwell. Instead it is quite fair and understanding. I do agree with your assessment of him.

I am a clinical therapist and some of the clients I work with are individuals with intellectual disabilities that have have sexually offended. I have 2 female clients. One that is currently in prison for her offenses and another that was not prosecuted for her crimes due to being found incompetent to stand trial. Both women were sexually abused as children and both witnessed extreme domestic violence as children, both were also sexually assaulted as adults. It would be interesting to see if Maxwell has a trauma history and or a history of witnessing abuse as a child.

Sounds like a tough case. Having said that, too much money and power isolates people, not only from other people but also from moral concerns. People with excessive resources and too much time on their hands are often jaded and remote.
That is a grossly understated way of putting it. The depravity of Epstein, Maxwell, Wexner and the lot goes far beyond being "jaded and remote". It's important to label them what they are - evil. Meg Gallucci “jaded and remote” is a very good way of putting it, and goes along with what Dr Grande is saying: jaded implies a state of boredom where the ethical sense has become dulled, so you lose empathy and use people as objects to give yourself a sexual thrill. Lots and lots of ordinary people do that, in all sorts of ways. Dr Grande is looking at the back story and context of Maxwell to understand her possible motivations. She absolutely does not fit the typical profile of a female sex offender, so he can only assume that, as he says material wealth, privilege and power have a corrupting effect on people such that they do indeed become “jaded and remote” and thus able to perpetrate abuses on others, for whose rights and sensitivities they have no concern.
They tried to pressure Ghislaine to sing before the trial. Remember all the evidence that mysteriously disappeared from Epstein’s house in NYC? The verdict is more pressure for her to sing.

I think the statistics about female sex offenders need to be highly contextualized. Poor, often poorly educated women are less likely to have people cover up for their acts or have access to good legal representation than their more well-off counterparts. Sexual abuse by older individuals may be reported less because they tend to hold more power and frame their acts as patronly/matronly care for a younger victim. I also believe abuse at the hands of women is very underreported in general, even if men do commit the vast majority of sexual abuse.

I guess, trying to become wealthy on the same level like her father had been before simply by being employed didn't work out, especially not in an expensive place like New York. Therefore, it was easy for Epstein to make her his "Madame", aka: the hunter for his prey. That was easy for G.M., guaranteed her huge profits and gave her back the lifestyle of the super-rich. My diagnosis would be: She's a narcisst with sadistic tendency.

You wonder if female predators are greatly underestimated. Woman are seen as organically nurturing and normally given access to children more readily. My dear friend of many years was abused since infancy into toddlerhood by sexually abusive nanny.. Then later controlled and intimidated by the nanny to age 10 when finally she was let go. My friend seemed to develop Stockholm Sy drome around this nanny. The trauma therapy my friend undertook to try to help was very complex process. Since my friend developed schizophrenia in college the early childhood trauma didn't get revealed until much later.

I think her father sexually "groomed" her from a very young age. He would tell her how special their secret little bond was, that there was no shame in this special love (abuse). I believe this to be true, as she seemed to be a natural at 'grooming' these young girls (where did she learn this behaviour?). Also, she is clearly intelligent. It seems her behaviour was ingrained. She chose Geoffrey as the things they did were also 'special' and 'secret', much like the bond with her father. She always thought this kind Of abuse was normal. I believe she herself is a victim who's sick relationship with her father is the cause of her denial, despite the long list of victims all recalling very similar memories. I think the justice department needs to be looking into this relationship she shared with her father.

It is a real skill. This lady was a topic in my court reporting meeting because her "private" transcripts were released. The transcript was a real headache because she did not answer questions directly and it was redundant.

I realized from my police services board work from decades ago that some people seemed to think that 'prostitution' was a victimless crime. I soon realized that the sex trade workers were actually the victims but even now I find very little confirmation of that. I think many of them are survivors of abuse. I think they are also victimizing themselves as well as allowing others to victimize them. Add to that, all attendant complex drug, alcohol and substance abuse. There certainly were video tapes at some point. Epstein had is entire compound rigged with cameras. He, and I'm sure she too, gained lots of power that way. Before his first trial, he was tipped off to a raid and the hard drives were moved, so who knows where all that blackmail material is now.

With British people, you always need to take into account the class system - she is a classic product of an upper-class upbringing. Your comments on wealth etc, are valid, but magnify that to a sense of inbred entitlement from school onwards (think - Boris Johnson) and in her case, an acted-out narcissistic rage springing from her father's conviction. She - and a whole class, frankly, regardless of their individual wealth - believe in every molecule of their being they are superior, not only to Britons of a 'lower' social class, but all foreigners. Thank you, Dr. Grande for your thoughts on this case. It's very upsetting to me that people can go down such a dark path in life. In the cases I've known first hand, a willingness to do wrong can come as a response to fear and a feeling of being left in a very bad spot, such as less wealth than they've known before.

Not always. Having a high priced lawyer is always a huge and unfair advantage, as is formerly playing golf with the judge's wife and whatnot. If she won't plead, I think the full weight of the law will descend on her, and she will not be a very sympathetic figure to a judge or jury.

It seems the older I get, the harder it is to function. Like everything never solved is finally coming up for mental review all at once and it's almost debilitating.
I firmly believe that Ghislaine Maxwell's motivation was to please Jeffrey Epstein in order to stay connected to him. She wanted to be his romantic partner as well as remain in his elite social circle. To maintain her relationship with Epstein, she was willing to harm young girls--with callous indifference. Maxwell's behavior mirrors that of someone who has antisocial personality disorder (a person without a conscience). Maxwell is not very attractive physically and she has not aged gracefully. But she is the type of woman who will do ANYTHING to have a man in her life. These two factors gave her the incentive to destroy others in order to have Epstein in her life. Hopefully she will remain in prison so she can't harm anyone else. I appreciate Dr. Grande's analysis and the interesting information he points out.

At first you find yourself laughing at his bizarre behavior and then feeling bad about laughing because Robert Maxwell was so traumatized and mentally unwell. He used to order a tray of food from the kitchen. Then he would drop the tray, smashing everything on it, and order a new tray of food. And that was one of the less worrying things he did. No wonder that Ghislaine ending up knocking around with awful people.

I am a clinical therapist and some of the clients I work with are individuals with intellectual disabilities that have have sexually offended. I have 2 female clients. One that is currently in prison for her offenses and another that was not prosecuted for her crimes due to being found incompetent to stand trial. Both women were sexually abused as children and both witnessed extreme domestic violence as children, both were also sexually assaulted as adults. It would be interesting to see if Maxwell has a trauma history and or a history of witnessing abuse as a child.

I think the statistics about female sex offenders need to be highly contextualized.
Poor, often poorly educated women are less likely to have people cover up for their acts or have access to good legal representation than their more well-off counterparts.
Sexual abuse by older individuals may be reported less because they tend to hold more power and frame their acts as patronly/matronly care for a younger victim.
I also believe abuse at the hands of women is very underreported in general, even if men do commit the vast majority of sexual abuse.

From my perspektive, the involvement of Ghislaine Maxwell is rather easy to understand. With the death of her powerful father she was catapulted out of the lavish lifestyle she had been used to. Also, because of the theft of her well-known father she must have become a social pariah in the UK.
I guess, trying to become wealthy on the same level like her father had been before simply by being employed didn't work out, especially not in an expensive place like New York. Sad to say, but "some" people in the economic stratosphere see others as being way beneath them, as dispensable "nothings" to be used, abused and disposed of after they've served their purpose. That Maxwell would procure underaged girls for Epstein's use and abuse, and that these girls were, by and large, from disadvantaged backgrounds, seems to confirm that she thought them of no value or worth.

She might have an Oxford education, but, in my opinion, she is a most horrible woman, a con artist like JEpstein and a traitor to all females. What did Epstein have on her to keep her locked in to the situation for at least a decade? Unless as Dr Grande says it was simply money and power. I think that’s true but I also suspect espionage and blackmail.

Once I watched the various British produced TV segments about Robert Maxwell while he was living I found the similarities between Robert Maxwell and Jeffery Epstein interesting plus the fact that Ghislane was is favorite child. It seems like Ghislane tried to please Jeffrey in every way possible possibly as she had her father. Dr. Grande would you consider looking at this undeniable correlation and to how it could possibly apply to any of Ghrislane's indictments?

The question was out there for a long time and apparently some of his rich friends covered for him by pretending to employ him somehow. It turns out his real “job” was international arms dealing. You wonder if female predators are greatly underestimated. Woman are seen as organically nurturing and normally given access to children more readily. My dear friend of many years was abused since infancy into toddlerhood by sexually abusive nanny.. Then later controlled and intimidated by the nanny to age 10 when finally she was let go. My friend seemed to develop Stockholm Sy drome around this nanny. The trauma therapy my friend undertook to try to help was very complex process. Since my friend developed schizophrenia in college the early childhood trauma didn't get revealed until much later.

Very good analysis there, thankyou. After reading everything possible about Ghislaine, I have come to believe that she was more than daddy's little girl. I think her father sexually "groomed" her from a very young age. He would tell her how special their secret little bond was, that there was no shame in this special love (abuse). I believe this to be true, as she seemed to be a natural at 'grooming' these young girls (where did she learn this behaviour?). Also, she is clearly intelligent. It seems her behaviour was ingrained. She chose Geoffrey as the things they did were also 'special' and 'secret', much like the bond with her father. She always thought this kind Of abuse was normal. I believe she herself is a victim who's sick relationship with her father is the cause of her denial, despite the long list of victims all recalling very similar memories. I think the justice department needs to be looking into this relationship she shared with her father.
Just for a minute consider that Maxwell's behavior might be a convergence of predilection and profession. Seems to me she was someone who loved her job as well as her paycheck, which raises the profound question of who her boss was... probably not Jeffrey.

Growing up, my mom always warned me to be wary around men, but it's so important to warn people about women too. I think the most important contribution Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) made to philosophical thought is that desire is the source of all suffering. And in most cases, chasing desire results in one making others suffer, rather than just one's self.

Thanks. I get inspiration from these videos for school papers. Although, I am not good at rewording them as my own words. I think Dr. Grande speaks clear, precise, and to the point . It is a real skill. This lady was a topic in my court reporting meeting because her "private" transcripts were released. The transcript was a real headache because she did not answer questions directly and it was redundant.
She may have been influenced by her father, Robert Maxwell, who had ties to Mossad and other intelligence. She conducted business like he did, covertly, illegally and with a man she found charismatic, Epstein.
The Brits used to call her father "The Bouncing Czech".

I realized from my police services board work from decades ago that some people seemed to think that 'prostitution' was a victimless crime. I soon realized that the sex trade workers were actually the victims but even now I find very little confirmation of that. I think many of them are survivors of abuse. I think they are also victimizing themselves as well as allowing others to victimize them. Add to that, all attendant complex drug, alcohol and substance abuse.

Only when someone in 2018 posted a video that went viral calling shane a pedophile, was onision all of a sudden breaking down how shane is definitely a pedophile (he made big claims against shane all those years but never called him a pedophile)

There certainly were video tapes at some point. Epstein had is entire compound rigged with cameras. He, and I'm sure she too, gained lots of power that way. Before his first trial, he was tipped off to a raid and the hard drives were moved, so who knows where all that blackmail material is now.

Dr. Todd! Would you be able to do a character analysis on Lisa in "Girl, Interrupted"? In the book she's diagnosed with a sociopathy(APD) but in the movie, they leave it out in the open and there is never really a confirmation on what she is suffering from since at the end of the movie, they reveal that they misdiagnosed Lisa.

With British people, you always need to take into account the class system - she is a classic product of an upper-class upbringing. Your comments on wealth etc, are valid, but magnify that to a sense of inbred entitlement from school onwards (think - Boris Johnson) and in her case, an acted-out narcissistic rage springing from her father's conviction. She - and a whole class, frankly, regardless of their individual wealth - believe in every molecule of their being they are superior, not only to Britons of a 'lower' social class, but all foreigners. A whole strata of Donald Trumps, in reality, disguised by privilege, good manners, and an acquiescent society.

In the cases I've known first hand, a willingness to do wrong can come as a response to fear and a feeling of being left in a very bad spot, such as less wealth than they've known before.
