    What I love with Tactics Ogre Reborn is that there's a "Rewind/Time Travelling Feature" wherein you can go back any timeline of the story (while keeping your units and all items on your journey) to play the other story paths. This is a very good feature unlike other games that when you finish it, its over and nothing to do with your savefile anymore.

    Agreed with the last part: Triangle Strategy is like "I can hold your hand the whole time if you want" while Tactics Ogre Reborn is like "well you have had a good 4 warmup battles in chapter 1 so for the next one you're against this necromancer guy up on a fort who can pretty much call unlimited reinforcements ... good luck"

    Triangle strategy is very heavily story based, and A LOT of gameplay is simply storytelling. Tactics Ogre is more action oriented. You can go really deep into the weeds with the mat in Tactics Ogre if you want, and it is truly a strategic game. Chose the right units and equipment for each battle, and it’s fairly easy, and the permanent death of non story characters can really mess your gameplay up, if you’re not careful. Tactics Ogre is a tactical battle game with a story, and Triangle Strategy is a story game with tactical battles.

      Yes, all the dailogue in the Triangle Strategy demo was the reason I bought Tactics Ogre Reborn. I also had Tactics Ogre The Knights of Lotis on the GBA and it was awesome back then. So, I'm really happy with the limited dialogue in Tactics Ogre.

  • @jefflynch
    @jefflynch 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Good comparison. The only thing I disagree with is that I think Triangle Strategy deserves more than a 1 point advantage over Tactics Ogre: Reborn in the graphics category. As you pointed out, the graphics in Triangle Strategy aren't just better aesthetically; they also are better functionally in terms of conveying information to the player. Tactic's Ogre's graphics are blurry and washed out to the point where it can sometimes be difficult to identify who is on your side or not, or whether a tile is at the same elevation or not. As a beginner, I find myself having to go into the character sheet just to confirm someone's allegiance if I don't turn on the HP bars. It's actually a bit better on PC than on Playstation. I really am enjoying the game, but this aspect of the game really makes me appreciate how much better Triangle's graphics are.

    I know I‘m in the minority here, but the 2D-HD style of Octopath and Triangle Strategy never clicked with me.
    I vastly prefer the cohesion of the older style over the (in my eyes) garish overabundance of visual and lighting effects and the awkward perspective issues of the newer one. I get that people like it, don‘t lynch me just yet, but it‘s not for me.
    Oh! Not to mention the portrait art! Tactics Ogre to this day has some of the very best portrait and character art ever in my eyes. Triangle Strategy doesn‘t even remotely come close in that regard.

  • @rhysegozun
    @rhysegozun ปีที่แล้ว +8

    100% Agreed with everything on this video. If you're someone coming in fresh into the TRPG genre, Triangle Strategy is the go to. Especially when it comes to progression. The game respects your time if you just want to finish through the story, see all the possible different routes and content on offer. You still get an engaging story, a memorable cast of characters, User friendly interface and Quality of Life improvements to make it more a streamlined experience.
    Reborn however since it is a remake of a remake of a classic title are for the seasoned players. The game's battle mechanics, union cap leveling system,
    difficulty spike and the lack of further speed options might turn off a lot of people. But if the premise was "TRPG Players looking for a Challenge in modern gen platforms" then this is the game.

    Idk if I'm being bias or not. But I prefer FF Tactics a lot than Tactics Ogre, simply because of the gameplay itself. I haven't try Triangle Strategy yet, so I will try to compare it with FFT first.
    Spells / Items:
    What makes me drop this game is the abilities and items system that get limit to only 4. I know the player we can bring on the field is more than FFT, but I'd rather have a 2nd job abilities (Chemist) to bring some limitless items for some characters than having fixed set of items. I think TO has more items effects but I haven't tried all of them because of that (need to carry essential items). Meanwhile FFT spell/job system, super satisfying when Summoner also can cast black/time magic as their 2nd abilities with bunch of options as long as you learned it. I can't find the joy in this game that I wished.
    TO RT / FFT CT:
    I feels CT in FFT is better to understand than RT in TO. Also there is drawbacks from having too much characters in the field, like when we need to have healer to do his job, but his turn is still too far away and might potentially die, turns out the AI is dumb and did not kill my cleric and prefer to share the damage to other characters. The main character doesn't feels special anymore and I kinda forget where he is.
    Beginner friendly:
    For me personally, FFT is easier because you can grind and no level cap. If I'm not wrong, the monster scale with our level, but surely we have better understanding and more spells by that time.
    Bonus, the pixel arts design in TO is kinda absurd. Denam looks like blonde Elvis Presley. The jawline is too big and doesn't looks cute and far from representing their realistic art.
    TLDR: Try Final Fantasy Tactics, more satisfying and beginner friendly. Thanks for reading. Let me know if you have disagreements, I also want to enjoy TO if you can change my mind.

      Yup totally agree with you. After completing chapter 3 of TOReborn I realized the lack of spell combinations and passive skills like parry and counterattack are all limited to weapon type.

    Tactics Ogre = 1/5
    It’s not a zero because the voice acting and graphics are decent. The tactics are…generally just focus fire. Archers range is inaccurate, characters can Insta completely die without warning, & very grindy. Story is the worst of any RPG.
    Triangle Strategy = 5/5

      I like Triangle Strategy better than Octopath 2. I'm playing OT2 now, and it's fun but it has it's flaws. For turn based rpgs, I highly recommend Chained Echoes.

    I don't get why you compared the two, final fantasy tactics war of the lions is superior to both in every way, especially superior to triangle strategy, their allot I could go on about witj triangle strategy, triangle strategy is also very boring with boring characters and boring maps

      I agree that FF tactics is superior, waiting for that game to be remade.

      Do you have access to FFT on anything other than a mobile phone or the PSP? Is it on the Switch?

    Yeah sorry I played triangle because there are few SRPGs out there. Triangle strategy loses in every single category and I mean every single one even graphics. There is no comparison between these two games. I still haven't beat triangle cause it looks horrid the story is not good the characters are forgettable and its just plain easy in battle. Tactics ogre is the OG and every srpg after is just hoping to copy it good enough to succeed

      tactics ogre is a real pain , even on the snes version . you only could equp 4 items and if your unit dies , well it dies 😂😂

      How anyone with eyes can think Ogre looks better is beyond me. To each his own but objectively Ogre looks like a 3DS game in bad ways and uses colors the way a 3rd grader would. Triangle on the other hand decided to use colors in an artistic manner and not pull out the primary markers to drench everything in children's entertainment bright cheesy colors.
      Not saying Triangle is better as a game ( though it might be? Depends on what you want from an Srpg really ) it just looks much better and has a better presentation. Not really sure now anyone could compare the two and say ogre looks better and not be kidding or 10 years old.

      Wow man I’m sorry but I can’t agree at all The original game might hold a special place in your heart but triangle strategy is a pretty amazing game.
