I love seeing all of these stories of folks revisiting this game just to see what us crazy old timers have been ranting about 😀. This remake is like playing the PSP version optimally, but without the years of oddly specific background knowledge required, and tons of improvements. What a fantastic time to be a fan!
I haven't played it since the SNES days... I don't recall the story line or anything else other than having a high mobility dragoon who slew everything LOL. Looking forward to Reborn some day when I have time - your guides are a gift (there was no YT back in the day of course!).

I love this game so much. My father HATED video game systems. But my Mom had got me a playststion, so the only way I could ever play this game, since I didn't have a TV in my room, was sneak downstairs early in the morning before my father went to work, and plug in my playstation, and play for an hour or 2 before he got up for work.

I'm just so happy to hear now from multiple sources that the game is mercilessly difficult. I'll never forget those moments in Final fantasy tactics where i just felt hard stuck. That first battle with Wiegraf... before he mutates. GOOD LORD! You literally need to get Hamedo from the monk class set along with double swords from the ninja class AND you have to go into it as a knight wearing heavy plate mail just to have a chance at the RNG letting you advance past his human form. I must have died to that bastard 25 times before i finally got it right. And i LOVE that about these games. I've never played this game, but having played the game that was inspired by it, i'm soo excited i can barely contain myself. Switch physical copy from Amazon should be in my mailbox tomorrow! REJOICE!
I took a risk buying this game, as I never played the original... but it looks visually a lot like FF Tactics Advance that I just couldn't help myself. Glad to see the reviews are in and generally great (87 meta at this time). Just gotta finish God of War Ragnorok first!
I actually much prefer the name Tactics Ogre Reborn as opposed to Let us cling together which I always thought was both strange and cheesy. Great review man, cant wait for this game. Ordered the switch physical off amazon and I am so ready to dive in.
I rather appreciated the Tactics Ogre franchise for their unconventional naming schemes. "Reborn" is cliche and boring. Names like "The March of the Black Queen" and "Let Us cling Together" are unique and stand out.
I rented the original release on Super Nintendo when I was younger (probably about 12) and I couldn't understand the game. So I'm excited to try it now as an adult that loves tactical RPG games.
Holy shit, that blurry filter looks atrocious. Please tell me there's a way to turn it off... This would ruin the experience for me and I wouldn't see a point in playing this version over the PSP one.

Good review. Just as an aside, try to eq the low frequencies in your voice recording as the pop filter isn't eliminating most of the puffing. It's a bit bass heavy as well.
What annoys me more than it should in this game, is.. That all characters in combat is stuck in a walk cycle.. Why are whey walking? they are not getting anywhere.. Why not make a simple idle animation? This blows my mind!
Knight of Lodus was my bread and butter for a while. So easy to power through that game with Emblems you can et before level 8. Miracle Fist Fighting War God Berserkers Self Preservationist Sniper Centurians.

This was one of the very first games i played in my psp, alongside persona 3 and valkyria chronicles 2. Now I can’t wait to play this again on my switch lol.
i spent quite a bit of time playing this on psp emulator pretty recently, but after i made it pretty far most of my characters were suddenly hardly doing any damage. when i looked it up apparently the psp version is extremely in depth and requires a lot of time and patience to fully understand the many different systems within the game. my fear for this remaster is that it will be overly simplified and easy compared to the psp version.
Can’t see myself spending 50$ on a Super Nintendo game 🤦♂️ I’ll wait till it’s $10-15 like it should be. Do really want to try it tho, huge fan of fft
The only new addition to the remake that I'm really unhappy with are the level caps between story missions. In a game like this, you want to be free to play around with as many builds / compositions as possible. With the level cap, a lot of possibilities will be locked until much later in the game.
Remember the death march, anyone? x) I think I got to coda on the psp, and then stopped playing. I stopped because if I finished the game, I could not go back to it anymore, that's how good it is.
Doesn't make sense that games like Elden Ring is available to Steam Deck when this is not. The Steam Deck should have been perfect for games like this.
so they only changed things that that didn´t need to be changed at all. while they did nothing to what needed to change for a modern re release on vastly more powerful hardware, i.e the graphics. so why would i get this inferior version that´s lacking in gameplay AND looks worse than i can make my original copy look on an emulator?

It's a release on modern consoles, including an official PC based release. With new background art, new music and a dub. An intermediate modder would not whip that up in a week
Really hate Square's new sprite direction: melted 16-bit legos. Hate perma-death in SRPGs too, but the story's supposed to more than make up for any gripes anyone would may have.
I got it early yesterday and it definitely disappointed me. They mostly removed random battles and replaced them with training which only allows you to gain exp. No units or items from training. Also training can only happen in towns. All those unique random battles are just gone now.
This is the FINEST S-rpg experience to ever exist to this day ! The amount of improvements and attention to small details by the devs in the gameplay mechanics is outright SCARY ! Everything you'd expect from a remake like this and then some.
I was playing this on Vita a year or so ago, I really liked it a lot but the Vita is really not an optimal way for me to play this kind of game - so I'm glad to heard Reborn is a well done remaster. My only problem is the pixel smoothing on the characters looks atrocious... hopefully someone will mod the PC version, but that'll be a lot of work.
Out of all the tactics games I think the character models in game look terrible I wish they would have updated the models during battle. Still plan to grab but uhhg they look terrible
It's a dubbed rerelease of the psp version, with new background art, new music and it's also $20 less than a AAA game. And also unlike a AAA title, this game is made by few enough people that it feels much more cohesive. For example, the composers all knew exactly where their music would be going.
Sounds awesome! I just hope I can turn the Permadeath off of possible. If not I may have to halt on getting it. I love the quality of life features though!

Love triangle strategy and fire emblem (since the GBA version came to the US in the 2000s). Bought this on GBA... and didn't like it. Optimistic this is better. FF Tactics didn't win me over either.

All the people on TH-cam who says this game is a Great game.. is just getting paid to say that By Square Enix. For a free copy of the game.. In my opinion, I enjoyed the story. The music and the areas. But everything else. Feels too slow. And it takes a really long time to upgrade anything. In this game. Compared to Fire Emblem three houses. and Final fantasy tactic. And even the final dungeons Are really bad put together. but in the end. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy this game. But just know what you are getting in to. But for me it's a 5/10.

I got stuck somewhere in the game when enemies kept kicking my ass. I did not know that leveling up your crew also levels enemies. Don't like this at all. I like old school grinding and then plow through. Dammit.

I think the hardcore aspects of the original with random encounters too made it so satisfying, I actually enjoyed grinding
