I'm part of the audience you said this is for: An experienced Maschine user looking to get away from the computer. I have an oldish Mac and have to constantly deal with annoying I/O problems, crashes, latency and troubleshooting in my DAW so often that sometimes it feels like it sucks away all of the fun out of making music. I've had Maschine+ for almost 3 weeks and it is the answer to all of my prayers. I mainly use it just for it's drum samples and effects and then record all my external gear into it for the rest. Although I've experience 1 or 2 crashes, the UX is a breeze compared to using a Mac + DAW. I also find it easier to start ideas, work on arrangements and take them to a full length song structure on Maschine than in my DAW (Logic). Making music with Maschine+ is now exactly how I hoped: I just turn on my gear and route things through my mixer and everything just works and it feels DAWless. I can really do everything I need inside Maschine until I have a full song ready to export stems and only mix in the DAW. I tried doing the same with the MPC Live for a few weeks and although you can kind of make that work too, Maschine is way superior for what I need: less of a traditional sampler and more of an arrangement device.
I’m new to the Maschine but having done a lot of research and watched many reviews, I’m eventually going to buy the Maschine plus for its standalone capability. Being able sit on the sofa with this, a laptop tray big enough and some headphones is just how I want to start the creative process. I note what you say about it being difficult for beginners but I’m willing to put the time in. Thanks for being candid about it.
I bought an mpc live 2 recently and returned it due to the pads. There was a bug that would add extra hits while finger drumming and even with the most sensitive setting, you can't play softly. If anyone has dreams of becoming a Jeremy Ellis, get the Maschine. Also, the MPC battery only lasted about 3 hours. I bought a halo portable battery for $119 and it kept my mc 707 charged for about 6-7 hours. Great video. Thanks for posting. :D
I agree with you man I had the same experience with the Live and the One (doubletriggers, especially when playing softer). If you want expression these pads are just better calibrated. But if its all out smashing the later mpcs are all good.
Also, I immediately noticed the 3D model you had in the background on your screen 😁 Blender ftw! I personally also use Blender now and then and as recently as yesterday, when I listened to you guys collaborating in the online DAW in the browser that you was streaming, I was inspired to make some music too, with my music gear, and afterward I made a little video loop in Blender for the music. It came out pretty decent I think, even though my music is a bit weird and all that. I try to make music almost every day. Not like high quality stuff or anything but. But lately, or actually for a while, I’ve been feeling a bit discouraged. So it’s nice to have channels like yours to look at and to be a bit inspired. Although again my music is far from as good, and a bit different genre. I still find it inspiring to watch people like you who make music too and but who unlike me are actually able to make really good sounding stuff, and also what I like about your videos is that you talk a lot and you say interesting stuff and you have a video worthy personality that you let shine through. Keep it up and now that I’ve seen that you use Blender too I am excited to see if there will be more 3D elements in your videos in the future 😊
Hey broed up 200 points man thanks for the blender encouragement, one thing I really wanna get across is however you choose to reap your inspiration in the moment just go for it and find that sweet spot of inspo-fun-output for meximum personal reward. If it's music, visuals, lyrics or whatever you feel, just appreciate the nonsense and when it happens to make sense ❤ lets snus
Beautiful review, nicely put! Since I barely know what I’m doing on the pads, and I’m still a n00b and will be fo’ life, this video made me lose my jealousy on the standalone and made me feel happy about buying the MK3 6 months before they came out with the + :) Thanks for posting this 🙌🔥🙌
Alex! I see u man. Nobody is a n00b for life but we stay learning that's a fact. And its half the fun! Keep at it and for real workflow wise they are more or less identical so I think you're doing the right thing.
I know it sucks but a tip for jumpy knobs is hold shift while you turn it because it’ll fine tune it down. It’s a little inconvenient but it’s better then nothing.
I’m a maschine guy but I bought an MPC live years ago for being standalone but the workflow wasn’t working so shelved it ! Forward 5 years later and I want a stand-alone box for external gear to sync midi w and I’m trying to get my head round my MPC live again as I don’t want to spend all the money on a maschine plus purely for the standalone aspect but wow I’ve spent all Xmas trying to work out the MPC workflow and it’s not working ! Long story short I’ve ordered an MPC plus as that’s what I know and after a thorough month of practice I can confirm that I’m no closer to liking the MPC workflow and I am done ! Basically if you come from Maschine just stick w it seems to be an iPhone/Samsung situation ! All the buttons to navigate the workflow are hidden in MPC and too much menu diving to do a basic performance lol
I got my mk3 since 2 days and.... Waw 1200 pages to read. Love this gear but we gotta be patient and concentrated to master this GREAT device. Are you comfy after 3 months with it?
You did great with this review Blezz. You was on point with every pro and con. I remember back in my last days of using FL Studio thinking "I don't wanna make beats using a mouse and trackpad anymore. Theirs gotta be a something else out there; Like some type of midi beat machine so I can still use my sounds and plugins." Did some searching, found the MPD, I didn't want it. Then the MPC Renaissance, I was interested but I didn't like the price. And THEN I found the Maschine. At the time, I never heard or knew anything about the Maschine but it was exactly what I was looking for in a midi controller. And the timing was perfect when I was getting ready to buy one cause they was about to release the MK2. Damn...that was back in 2012
The reason I didint buy it is because I always need it plugged in . Also it needs a speaker , well it make it so much more intriguing ! I use mk3 everyday . I ended up getting a iPad m1 with beatmaker 3 for a very portable beat maker
Great video man! I agree with pretty much everything here... so I'll just point em here instead of making this video too! Still having some crashing going on with mine, but I think an update is coming!
I think so too, we'll be fine! U know what I want? Skip past that damn algo nonsense and unite around what we're really about. I wanna see your shine thru your music and see what you actually do with it.
Yoh BB, there are always back and Forth’s regarding which sounds better maschine or mpc what is your opinion since u sound like u been familiar with Mpc too, because am also budgeting for an Mpc live 2 or maschine mk3/Plus your response will be much appreciated
None of them sound better than the other in terms of quality, the Maschine has more good sounding packs but the MPC also has a really solid librarh and what's been put out since the Live 2 has been good quality.
@@BlezzBeats it is quite expensive here in Cape Town, SA The maschine plus, for now it could be more realistic for me to save up for a Mpc live 2 the closest thing to the ax in terms of connectivity yet one can do a lot as well, to be honest with you I might just settle with the Arturia keylab mk2 for now actually as time gets buy because drums I can manage manually in the daw ah know how to craft them really well, since sam more hands on playing that controller would definitely serve me well, is good to also know what u need from what u want, my bad! For the Essay 🤣
Nice thing about this is that it will surely get better and better by way of updates. I am new to maschine and the workflow really is unique and takes a bit of learning.
Me January 2022: buy an MPC One. Me November 2022: sell the MPC One after never getting my head around the workflow and not making a single bar of music. Me also in November: buy Maschine Plus - making music by the end of the day. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Hey quick tip if you want the knobs to stop jumping just remove it from the the usb hub and plug it directly into your computer sometimes when there are multiple devices connected at the sametime your computer chooses what power it won’t move data from I just figured that out when I purchased the mk3 I sold my mk1 because of that issue but I’m regretting it because It was probably the same issue I just never connected it to another computer to test it out
Hopefully some calming news for you - I owned 3 mk1s and all of them had the skippy knob issue especially the second knob regardless of direct/hub connection and cable. Even with just the Maschine connected. So something is up with that! But your advice makes it as good as it can get
Haha yeah I was messing around with Protracker a couple months back on the Amiga - real nice lofi crunch. Wanna try out Sid Wizard for C64 too eventually but all my cables were stolen in a basement storage burglary along with the diskdrive and my papas game collection 😠
Excellent review Blezz i love my little mk3 mikro just got a komplete kontrol a25 to go with it i'm just a beginer learning from scratch one day when i get the hang of it all i will upgrade
@BlezzBeats I appreciate that despite all your love for Maschine, which I share, you are still able to deliver honest review about controversial Maschine+. This way I know, even though I wish it was not true, Maschine+ is not for me. Thank you!
Even though most of it still stands, I have to say it’s much more stable now and I haven’t really had any issues since a long time back. But just for the luxury of running it untethered, if you’re by the computer anyways you might as well gp for the mk3!
So what is the best gear for a newbie like me? MPC one vs Maschine +? I got familiar with Logic Pro X and Launchkey Mini MK3 only so far. Looking for something like a laptop screen-less production, with fewer distractions :)
@@BlezzBeats I've just started with lofi things but the final goal is producing music from and for games, like Street of Rage for example. th-cam.com/video/FxJc4lc6TT4/w-d-xo.html And it's all just a hobby, nothing serious.
@@AlexanderShelestov Lofi things, beats like anything loop oriented and especially sample based is simple to do with both, but anything more melodically complex is definitely smoother with a DAW unless you're skilled with a keyboard and not that dependant on editing. I'd say maybe the MPC One for the price since you're starting out! Just my 2 cents
@@BlezzBeats The price doesn't matter, I'm ok to invest in my hobby :) So MPC One is better than Maschine in case of that reach melody-based production?
Got it from my father, I've used it with MSSIAH before but next up is SidWizard! Just need to get some cables and the megabrick PSU (looking for a smaller one) when I get around to it cause we had a break-in and lost everything but the breadbox itself 😔
I’ve been using Maschine since 2010. I have Maschine Studio with just about every expansion & virtual instrument. I also have 3rd party plug ins like Arturia. I rarely play out. Do you suggest the Maschine + or the MK3 for me?
hey man, super usefull" im suscribing ;) ... A little doubt, is there a global fine tuning for the maschine +? is it possible to chage the overall pitch to cents? THNKS MAN!
Thank you! Unfortunately not since it's so many different virtual devices (samplers, plugins etc) but if you wanna do it for an entire group of samples for example you can hold select (next to pad 5) and press select all on top of the screen, now changing the tune for one sample will tune all of them. Any parameter really.
Nah sorry i have done so many videos on it and I’m a bit strapped for time right now, but I still stand by what I said in this one. Best groovebox there is without a doubt. MPC Live is the strongest contender, but I pick this any day.
I am so glad you talked about the SD Card, I got the plus last Sunday and have not been able to use it as my SD card has issues I have been in contact with Native Instruments about this they are trying to help but at the end of the day I am disappointed so do I need to go get another SD card for thing to work? Expansion do not install properly, projects disappear, storage as error reading on it, please help
Since I spoke to them after having issues I went with formatting another one from the start since I had one that had more storage, since then it's been so much better. I've had 3 random crashes but no corrupt files. So the included card I abandonded since I first had issues - and the one I'm using is not a micro SD with an adapter but a plain SD card.
Nice review and good conclusion. I hope they will bring hard drive support soon or better yet something like airdrop/dropbox/network folder situation where we could drag and drop stuff easier on this beast of a Maschine!! A Maschine Remote companion app like Logic Remote for Logic would be dope too 😜
I just swooped a MK3 (I have had a mk2 and micro) MK3 is 🔥 This is too but I just feel like it needs a lol more time. I also feel like I would go with a mpc LIVE2 if I wanted to spend that 1400. Also the MK3 at its price compared to this I feel it is a bit obvious as to why one is a 🔥 deal. I got mad love for the MPC (I got a OG SLIMLINE) and I love it. I been banging on keys since 07 and I just love that each piece of equipment or software brings out it's own style from myself. Much love to you and fellow beatmakers.
Thank you for raising the issue of sd card sample browsing! Not recognizing my folders for samples is a serious issue. There is no way I will go back and rename all of my samples. However this is fixable problem. If 1010music black box can do it , then native instruments can do it. Native Instruments, I know your listening.... please help!
I noticed you said something about the parameters being too jumpy. I’m still rocking the MK2 and when I hold shift while twisting parameters it fine tunes them. 🙏
Yeah this was something I experienced a lot on the MK1, in that case it happened across 3 units (regardless if you're fine-tuning it would just skip a few semitones, happened in the beginning of a session) and heard it from tons of people so it led me to believe it was a software issue. MK2 and MK3 I've only heard from other people but didn't experience myself.
@@BlezzBeats ahhhh I gotcha. I knew you had to already know about holding shift but I did have to make sure cause I sure the hell didn’t know until way later lol
I’m about to pull the trigger on buying one of these. Does it act as a midi host? Can I plug my op-1 in controller mode into the usb without a host box? Great videos and reviews. Keep it up!
Thank you! It does act as a midi host and quite a capable one, I don't own the OP-1 anymore (sold it during "hard times" a year or so ago) so I can't try it myself unfortunately but if anyone sees this that does plz let us know. If it's class compliant MIDI it should work as far as I know.
@@BlezzBeats i fully agree, but another 500 bugs mk3 for 8 knobs :-) I will deal with that on black friday.- But not to forget the JAM is nice addendum for ableton together with push2.
Would you please make a video about importing personal kits from an external drive onto the SD card of the Mk3 +, I’m using a Mac and it seems impossible
@@BlezzBeats the Mk3 plus won’t recognize my Mac or external drive in order fro me to drag and drop to Sd card. Would you be able to screen share my screen ?
@@attractor9 ok, well I've experienced crashes when I load up some preset groups that have long chains of fx on them but I dont really do that much. So when you're loading up these demo songs I guess it loads up all types of groups too. Gonna try it out myself later
I’m thinking maybe my first Maschine will be the MK3, only because of the price difference. I have a a 2015 MBP and need to update my os for Logic etc and latest Komplete Kontrol etc. $649 vs $1,399. With a $750 gets me a lots of Native Instruments software upgrade or difference goes a long way for a new iMac M1+ or Mac Mini M1+ that should be released in Spring 2021 or the current end of 2020 Mac Mini M1. I just don’t see myself jumping in with the MK3 Mikro. Looking at the screens and sampling, not to mention the inputs outputs. Though a smart person would get a Mikro MK3 first. I have heard that if one gets the Mikro MK3 first then the MK3, they can be used in sequence?
The Mikro sucks ass tbh I would avoid it, unless all you need is pads and transport control and that's that. Too much menu diving on a tiny screen. You might as well get a cheap MPD then. It really shines with the 8 knobs and all the other buttons handy.
Good review! But my personal opinion, I think the mpc live2 Cus D'amato mike Tyson the new Maschine. U don't get the bang for your buck. A couple more dollars you can get mpc x.
Great channel! I experienced those crashes you mentioned, even after the latest update (we are on June 2021). One of them was live, to the point I could not perform. I connected my Artiphone 1, which it was working great at home, and the M+ will crash and reboot over and over. I just had to stop. I came home, tested it and it was fine... Also I experience those "overdrive" sounds even after I just turn on the M+. After a reboot it's fine, but that has to be fixed. I am still crazy and use it live, but I am praying before playing...LOL.
Damn you are brave! Hoping those last bugs will die in the next update, I haven't had problems in months now but I feel lucky. Some stability seems to depend on the SD-card too so make sure you have a good one
Awesome video thanks for being honest about it. I have been having the same issues you are having with the crashing out of the blue the crackling in the sound also I get when recording in live it doesn’t capture the pads that I hit. Sometimes it does and sometimes it don’t. Crazy also I get this hiss out of the headphone port. Lol. Awesome. But I hope most can be fixed with a update. Stay safe
Yes mon there should be an update out within a couple weeks and I'm staying in the loop with them to report all the trouble people are having so I'm hoping we can iron out these issues asap!
I have had my maschine+ for just over 2 weeks now and I'm loving it so far. My only frustration is with the lack of thought and effort put into the controller mapping on Massive and some of the other synths (Monark is nice and simple to edit here. Thankful for that). They should have picked a simpler polysynth better suited to tweaking on the interface they have. Most of the Massive interface is totally inaccessible. To include the Reaktor Junatik ensemble (and well mapped) would have been a great addition. Carbon is way too complicated to properly tweak too. Newscool is barely editable. Maybe allow it to load Reaktor blocks created racks. That would be ace.
Completely agree with you! That and the occasional bugs/crashes but that should be possible to iron out. Trying to assist in getting it done, have you experienced any issues?
@@BlezzBeats I had a couple of lock ups and it does that crackly noise burst when playing a freshly loaded project but it doesn't persist after that. One day last week my dial no7 was glitching out but once I traced it to the knob and just turned it a few times it stope doing it and its been fine since. Controller mappings are my biggest issue with it. I have currently saved a version of an INIT Massive patch with the controls laid out in a way that makes it a lot more like like a simplified polysynth. Its way more friendly to create patches on the fly now. I'm not really a preset flicker when it comes to synths. I can post it on the Discord channel if you like.
Another annoying thing is that when I try to create a custom controller map for the Reaktor instruments to use in standalone mode, they won't load properly. All the controllers load all glitched out and unresponsive.
@@Fauxleroid Yoo thats a great idea! Even videofiable, would you mind if I did (and gave you full credit ofc), please do. I have a couple patches for the talkbox but havent been more imaginative than that yet. Thanks for the feedback bro
Love it but I feel midi is a hit or miss for me. Some sessions I have no problem setting up my external synths via my USB hub, other times I can’t get it to work. I need it to be able to do program and bank changes via the hardware, not have to set it up via the software macros. They need to come up with a better way of accessing your own samples. MPC Live is so much better in this regard as well as it’s midi capabilities. Sort that out and I’ll be very happy. Oh yeah, sort out Reaktor on it, please!!!!!
@@BlezzBeats you can load your own ensembles and some of them will work. But if you save it and then reload the project then there is no sound. I’m hoping they get it working properly as there are so many great ensembles in Reaktor.
@@crybo ah yeah, I used Insidious 6851 alot and its worked fine. All that is outside of what's promised though, it's not feasible for NI rn to guarantee and support ensembles, libraries and other plugins outside of the official M+ library to work smooth. So I wouldn't count on it being prioritized any time soon, but we can always hope!
No xlr, no more inputs, lacking of CVs just contributes to complainability. For me, cool it does not have it. Less wires hanging. NI provides connecting their own and class complaint interface. How better can it get? One usb plug and you are in...... Unless one really need CV to connect and flash wgne on the toilet :) Lost one project so far. Sometimes project disappears if left unattended (i understand it crashes as you mentioned). Perfect drum maschine, full song mode, driving my external Moog, and Moog Mini sound on board standalone as a Monark? This is too cool already. Cheers!
It's crazy, because first as i saw videos about the akai mpc one - i was truly in fire. But for my luck, it was not available, so i couldn't buy it. As i saw your reviews of the akai mpc - i was like okay, go the software way and i bought an ableton live licence and fl studio (yeah i could use cracked versions - but as a software developer - i know how hard it is to write software - so i had to buy it) and decided against bitwig where i liked the linux support. Now i switch between Renoise, Reaper, Fl Studio, Live and my Maschine. I really enjoy the different paths. In a new environment you are not accustomed to reach a point of your creative self expression. That's what i enjoy. But back to my point. The Mpc one lost me, and the new maschine never got me hooked up. Yeah it's a brilliant device, as always, ni does it right, but first of all - 1400 € for the build quality - nope, to make music without a pc? nope, to have no battery like the mpc live? nope. If i would have to start - i would go for ableton live standard, a refurbished lenovo w541 with i7 4810mq CPU, a renoise licence and u used novastation launchkey 49 and some vst stuff and would still be under the price for the maschine + - which is really a great device - but we don't live in an ideal world - so we need to get the most out of the budget... so i would never start this way and so i'm not hooked to the maschine +.
I hear you man. Like Im into it really is for a niche crowd and thats the hands on everything in one box maneuver with pads and buttons type. But I have many tools and even though this is my favorite I wouldn't give up Ableton Live neither, and I wouldn't recommend this to a complete beginner because with experience I can say they usually have a hard time grasping the concepts.
@@BlezzBeats if you are on fire and you wanna make music... take the hardest shit you can and start doing it... because if you are willing to, there is no pain that can stop you from reaching your goal! and hey we all have internet... you find a lot of free good video tutorials... so i would go for live. But fl studio or maschine mk3 with reaper were fine too on the start.
Yeah thats true, but also not how everyone works. If you're really curious in the actual process I don't see how anything can stop you, but there is a common tendency to give up rather quick because they imagine a result and want it straight away. They might drop it in an environment thats not the perfect fit for them.
@@substance90 Yes mon! Really easy and fun to play around with, picked up the basic skills in a couple weeks. I've tried Maya in the past and given up pretty quickly. You ever mess around with 3D modelling?
@@BlezzBeats Sweet, you should keep it up! I messed with Blender modelling in the past but pretty much gave it up once I got into music production. Only so much free time in a single day lol :D
I'm a MPC user and this is my first Machine experience. I know it's a learning curve and I'm willing to invest the time. Did I hear you say that you can connect a sound card to it to expand the io in standalone? That's next level if it's possible
Scarlett 18 20 works. As long as its class compliant...with an ad da converter i can get 16 tracks out of maschine into a 16 channel mixer. Now that is crazy.old school live take with an analog mixing, board, cut and paste best parts in a daw Theres a page on ni with compatible products...even the behringer umc 18 20 works, cheap as hell and a lot more decent than people think. Hey man, first time finding this channel; think I’m gonna stick around 👍. For me, (coming from a Studio and Mikro MK2) I ‘want’ (not need ) this in my life. However, I’m contemplating selling the studio to top cash for the Maschine+ 🤔. Honestly, I’ll probably ended up waiting on a second iteration of the Maschine+, I know what I’m like 😂 Solid review man, very insightful.
I disagree that Mashine is not good to control modular synthesisers I control all my modular gear with my Maschine+ All you need is a Midi to CV module. Connect it via MIDI cable or USB to Maschine and you're away I actually prefer it than having 8 CV directly out from the MPC as this way there is only one cable going to my modular instead of 8 cables crossing my desktop
@@kingtfinessemusic6321 yeah if you use it as a controller you can, in standalone you can export the master, groups or sounds to wav to the sd card. The software is the same, essentially everything is there and then some.
I think no touch screen is a pro not a con. I have the MPC Live and I wish i never replaced my MPC 500 - i can't use the touchscreen! Might get this as I used to have a MK2 and I liked everything except the arranger which they look like they have fixed with clips
Yeah same here the more physical controls the better imo, you do sort of get around it on the Live by just using it to quickly select things to control with the q-link knobs but I think they solved the seamless physical controls better on the Maschine
@@BlezzBeats Yea - Q-Links are OK, especially with the update where it has a pop-up to show you what you are turning - but I think I preferred the Old shift + Pad combinations on the Maschine. Great video!
Exactly, I have enough touchscreen tech in my life, I enjoy my Maschine Jam, and I enjoy the knobs and buttons experience. I would like to maintain that on this device.
Darn u got me at expandability. MpcOne owner. I’m happy with the unit. But if they could expand the number of inputs and outputs. That’s would be too amazing
I’m a Maschine+ fanboy. All of the negative things you said were absolutely true. Sound design is really sad on this thing. If NI could have just established some “Pages” functionality, then it would be the best synth/external gear controller ever. The lack of ability to save user Groups/Sounds/etc locally is disappointing. It’s still the most satisfying experience on hardware I’ve encountered. I review your review 10/10
❤😁 Saving user groups and sounds (if im not misunderstanding you) is possible under files/save as/filetype, and for sound design wema got a really nice surprise comin up next week so stay tuned 🤫🤓
@@BlezzBeats yeah but that's what i meant ) Maschine is a pain for vocals, so what’s ur way to keep some ability to still work on the arrangement... using Maschine as aplugin in a daw ?
@@manunoyonify Ah! By that time all the stems are in the daw! I usually just flick between them and sprinkle extra stuff in the daw but most times it's done by then, check my video called "Ableton arrange maschine" something like that lol
Cool review but the main issue for me is having to load each song when playing gigs. I need a sequencer/drum machine that holds the entire set and drive a few hardware synths. After looking at this I realised there was no way it would work and I had to go for the MPC Live 2.
Interesting i had the same goal with the first Live a few years back and it didn't do it for me. Wanted to get the stems for multiple beats in. How do you lay your set out on the Live 2?
@@BlezzBeats the MPC Live 2 has 20 ‘song’ memory slots as well as 100 sequences slots. I don’t use ‘stems’. I just sample in what I need and sequence them, without blank space. I’m old, it’s what we did in the 80s
@@Bigmojo75 Could just do the same thing with scenes on the Maschine then, use one group per song or something like that depending on how many sounds you have and it would be even more flexible. The only con I can think of is you'd have to change the tempo manually for every new song.
@@BlezzBeats exactly, it’s s nightmare. Plus if the songs are made up of verses, bridges and Choruses using different music, a repeating scene won’t do it. On top of this you have to consider triggering external gear including video and light triggering, just a bad idea trying all that mid gig.
@@BlezzBeats Got it, thanks. Good video, and although you are already a fan of Maschine, it's good to hear things that are "not good" or areas you wish were better. I find that most so-called reviews are literally just walking advertisements for equipment, and no one dares give negative feedback, or maybe they just can't be bothered to put new gear through its paces. For example, I like that you mention that the knobs on previous Maschine versions were jittery in use, and you felt the new ones were not, although I suspect that is not the knobs' fault, since it's just driving the software; but good that you outline some of the differences. I also can relate to your comments about what people expect to find on such a unit .. like XLR inputs, really? The only product on the market that has this is the MPC-X .. you can readily buy balanced TRS cables, there's no need for XLR on such a unit. I look forward to seeing more reviews from you, please stay as unbiased as possible, and be critical, and by that i mean, not just complaining, but give examples and facts. Many thanks!
Imagine what kind of sick Hybrid could be done if they forgot about doing their own Box with little Screens and did some kind of Dock with high quality Knobs, Sliders, Keys, and Pads for an M1 iPad Pro. Now that would be slick. Being able to use your Hands to manipulate Plugins like Omnisphere and Serum, etc, having CV’s and a big Screen for your outboard eurorack gear.
I own it and plan on keeping it, so take that into consideration when I say, I fucking hate that it's basically a christmas tree, like a kid's toy. Especially the leds from the 4D controller mess with my eyes. The pad leds are also irrititating as fuck but those white leds from the controller I have to cover. It's not that they are super bright, but I always see those 4 tiny leds switching between red, green and blue. I would love an option to change the pad lighting, I know you can change brightness but that doesnt really help in my case, I need a smaller area of light. Also I feel when you reduce brightness the flickering gets even worse.
Haha I think it's so cool you see the light prism, thought it was only me. I only see it like that when I move my eyes like from left to right for example though
Depends on what people want out of it. Price is an issue, but I touchscreen is a dealbreaker for me. And from what I’ve gathered, Maschine + allows more in ways that MPC doesn’t, and vice versa.
Sounds like we had similar experiences man, I'm happy you found what you were looking for!
Excellent, Nick. I agree.
Honesty is the best policy! Respect to you for stating "the good the bad and the ugly"
I have an MK3 with a 20 ft usb cable. There’s my stand alone.
Great prognosis….. all the info I was looking for in one video. Bravo!
Long story short I’ve ordered an MPC plus as that’s what I know
and after a thorough month of practice I can confirm that I’m no closer to liking the MPC workflow and I am done !
Basically if you come from Maschine just stick w it seems to be an iPhone/Samsung situation ! All the buttons to navigate the workflow are hidden in MPC and too much menu diving to do a basic performance lol
Great Information l will continue to learn on the MK3. . It has taken a while to learn it . 🤔✌🏾
I got my mk3 since 2 days and.... Waw 1200 pages to read. Love this gear but we gotta be patient and concentrated to master this GREAT device.
Are you comfy after 3 months with it?
You dont have to learn every single page tbh, I was comfortable 2 weeks in with the MK1. Granted alot has been added since then. Good luck!

Dope review muh purple! Your content has quality and effort written all over it as always. Kör hårt min vän! 👊
I appreciate that! 👊
Damn...that was back in 2012
Thank you man! Time flies faster each year doesn't it 😬
The reason I didint buy it is because I always need it plugged in .
But honestly doesn't matter that much in most cases cause you can feed anything into them 😊
@@BlezzBeats it is quite expensive here in Cape Town, SA
The maschine plus, for now it could be more realistic for me to save up for a Mpc live 2 the closest thing to the ax in terms of connectivity yet one can do a lot as well, to be honest with you I might just settle with the Arturia keylab mk2 for now actually as time gets buy because drums I can manage manually in the daw ah know how to craft them really well, since sam more hands on playing that controller would definitely serve me well, is good to also know what u need from what u want, my bad! Nice thing about this is that it will surely get better and better by way of updates. I am new to maschine and the workflow really is unique and takes a bit of learning.
Yes we should expect one within a couple weeks!
But your advice makes it as good as it can get
I’m waiting mine. I will use it for microhouse live set!!😌
Oh shette you will tear that microhouse down for big certainly sure!
Ha, the C64 and Amiga. I used to tinker with Protracker as a kid way back in the 80's. Do you still use them for music making?
Haha yeah I was messing around with Protracker a couple months back on the Amiga - real nice lofi crunch. Wanna try out Sid Wizard for C64 too eventually but all my cables were stolen in a basement storage burglary along with the diskdrive and my papas game collection 😠
@@BlezzBeats Ouch, that sucks man.. Sorry to hear for you and your pa. The audio chip in the Amiga was pretty amazing for it's time.

What do you typically do in Logic?
@@BlezzBeats I've just started with lofi things but the final goal is producing music from and for games, like Street of Rage for example.
th-cam.com/video/FxJc4lc6TT4/w-d-xo.html
And it's all just a hobby, nothing serious.
@@AlexanderShelestov Love VGM soundtracks btw, Streets of Rage is badass
@@BlezzBeats The price doesn't matter, I'm ok to invest in my hobby :)
So MPC One is better than Maschine in case of that reach melody-based production?
Can I ask...what do you use the commodore 64 (I see in the background)( for?
Got it from my father, I've used it with MSSIAH before but next up is SidWizard! Just need to get some cables and the megabrick PSU (looking for a smaller one) when I get around to it cause we had a break-in and lost everything but the breadbox itself 😔
I’ve been using Maschine since 2010. I have Maschine Studio with just about every expansion & virtual instrument. I also have 3rd party plug ins like Arturia. I rarely play out. Do you suggest the Maschine + or the MK3 for me?
MK3 unless you really wanna couch jam

Hello Blezz Beats. Thank you very much for this detailed review. Very interesting !
My pleasure!
hey man, super usefull" im suscribing ;) ...
@@BlezzBeats thanks a lot !!!
Hey Blezz can you do an updated review after owning it for a while?

A Maschine Remote companion app like Logic Remote for Logic would be dope too 😜
That would be really dope! Or a event editor over wifi, use your phone to get that touchscreen dimension
I just swooped a MK3 (I have had a mk2 and micro)
MK3 is 🔥
This is too but I just feel like it needs a lol more time.
There is no way I will go back and rename all of my samples.

i still miss the Master Volume mixer fader display. For this to see i still need Maschine sw. Is that still true?
I noticed you said something about the parameters being too jumpy. I’m still rocking the MK2 and when I hold shift while twisting parameters it fine tunes them. 🙏
Yeah this was something I experienced a lot on the MK1, in that case it happened across 3 units (regardless if you're fine-tuning it would just skip a few semitones, happened in the beginning of a session) and heard it from tons of people so it led me to believe it was a software issue. MK2 and MK3 I've only heard from other people but didn't experience myself.

If it's class compliant MIDI it should work as far as I know.

hello, how often crashes your maschine+? i am in the phase of listening to the demosongs and presets and it freezes every hour. is this normal?
Only once since the update, I havent tried listening to demosongs though. Did you update the latest firmware?
yes i did. the first try, it crashes too.
Mon frere Blezz the Master Merci

Great channel! I experienced those crashes you mentioned, even after the latest update (we are on June 2021). One of them was live, to the point I could not perform. I connected my Artiphone 1, which it was working great at home, and the M+ will crash and reboot over and over. I just had to stop. I came home, tested it and it was fine... Also I experience those "overdrive" sounds even after I just turn on the M+. After a reboot it's fine, but that has to be fixed. I am still crazy and use it live, but I am praying before playing...LOL.

Thank you lah!! So must you be
This was a VERY thorough review!
I tried Machine plus for 4 days. made a track, the pads are amazing. but i am returning it. it sounds dull and still there are buffer underruns.
@@BlezzBeats I put it on the discord channel.
Interesting to me, this is something I haven't fully explored. Whats up with Reaktor?
@@BlezzBeats you can load your own ensembles and some of them will work. But if you save it and then reload the project then there is no sound. I’m hoping they get it working properly as there are so many great ensembles in Reaktor.
@@crybo ah yeah, I used Insidious 6851 alot and its worked fine. All that is outside of what's promised though, it's not feasible for NI rn to guarantee and support ensembles, libraries and other plugins outside of the official M+ library to work smooth.

Yeah thats true, but also not how everyone works. I´m surely gonna do the m+ mixing bard souncard thing soon, try to get second hand. Check out zombie nation on ig he has vids working this way with an mpc

Thumbnail game on point 🧵 💯
is there a song mode?
Yep! It's called the arranger on Maschine
Hey man, first time finding this channel; think I’m gonna stick around 👍. For me, (coming from a Studio and Mikro MK2) I ‘want’ (not need ) this in my life. However, I’m contemplating selling the studio to top cash for the Maschine+ 🤔. Honestly, I’ll probably ended up waiting on a second iteration of the Maschine+, I know what I’m like 😂
Solid review man, very insightful.
Glad to hear that bro! I hear you, long as the beats keep coming!
I disagree that Mashine is not good to control modular synthesisers
I control all my modular gear with my Maschine+
All you need is a Midi to CV module. Connect it via MIDI cable or USB to Maschine and you're away
I actually prefer it than having 8 CV directly out from the MPC as this way there is only one cable going to my modular instead of 8 cables crossing my desktop
Excellent point jammerman 👌🏻
I agree. Love using Maschine+ with my modular. Can sequence, sample and apply fx fast from the unit just using a CV converter.
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
How about drop and drag like mk2 is that possible
You mean on the software?
@@BlezzBeats is the drop and drag feature available on the machine+ the way it’s available in the mk1 mk2
@@BlezzBeats yes let’s say I write a baseline track can I drop and drag that track into my daw
@@teabreakbeats Thanks!!
Exactly, I have enough touchscreen tech in my life, I enjoy my Maschine Jam, and I enjoy the knobs and buttons experience. I would like to maintain that on this device.
great review
Thanks!
Darn u got me at expandability. MpcOne owner. I’m happy with the unit. But if they could expand the number of inputs and outputs. That’s would be too amazing
Yeah they had to put some caps on it to leave initiative to buy the Live 2 I guess
The thumbnail is genius my guy!
Haha thanks bro!
could u try hookin up a usbhub on the host-ports?and connecting noiseshits to the hub? that would be dope af!
Might just do that!

@@BlezzBeats great. You just gave me goosebumps.
Thanks for the glimmer of hope regarding sound design, and for info about saving groups!
Great honest review. Btw would you please make a "ur recording vocals with Maschine worflow" video please ? Cheers !
Thanks! I could but I hate recording vocals with the Maschine lol, will add it to the list though!
@@BlezzBeats will ) thx Blezz be1tz
I am at the same point. I was thinking of filling in the space between with my traktor remix decks. Then I'm bringing a laptop...
Mpc one comparison please
wise man
Who made the Animation?
Mr me lmao
@@BlezzBeats you a mane of many talents!
Nice video bro i still block at connectionalizati..shshsuw7ww wtf
What does "ya num say" mean?
Its an abbreviation of "Uknowimsay" which is an abbreviation of "do you know what I am saying?"
U didn t show how is so easy to edit sequences
Got many other videos on that
Imagine what kind of sick Hybrid could be done if they forgot about doing their own Box with little Screens and did some kind of Dock with high quality Knobs, Sliders, Keys, and Pads for an M1 iPad Pro. Now that would be slick. Being able to use your Hands to manipulate Plugins like Omnisphere and Serum, etc, having CV’s and a big Screen for your outboard eurorack gear.
Sounds like you're just looking for something else entirely. Like going to the store looking in the shoe department for a juice box lol
If I can use it with an mx1 is a total buy
Appreciate
A yo sup with the no CV gates!? 😜
Amiga 500 !!!!!!
Yessir!
Trill talk, I wish my girl sounded like you.
ahahah im honored!
love my MK3 and the software .....combined pc/Mac gives me more flexibility - if on the road would prefer to have the MK3/PC combo.
MPC crushes this thing as a standalone sampler at half the price.
Depends on what people want out of it. Price is an issue, but I touchscreen is a dealbreaker for me. And from what I’ve gathered, Maschine + allows more in ways that MPC doesn’t, and vice versa.
I just discovered and bought Phoenix Wright yesterday. Weird
Haha destiny! Love those games
