Original E84 was a real bloke's car based on E90 3 series classic which made BMW the company it is today. Weighty, hydraulic steering, full time 4wd, austere cabin etc - I loved it. New X1 is more family oriented so I got a Subaru XV which has supple ride and handling over rough surface + no hybrid gimmicks.The only thing I miss about the BMW is the ZF gearbox - and that 'old-school' feeling - I really miss that. The original x1 was a station-wagon, or, a giant super-versatile hatchback - it was never an 'SUV' - it drove like a normal car - it was awesome & much misunderstood. I think BMW has lost its way.

I bought my Cooper S just on these reviews. This one though is mostly stating the obvious. Like, what car doesn't have full safety now, isn't it law? I think with a host of electronics it would have been great to see them in action vs the same b roll footage over and over. And some shots didn't match the presenter like the centre screen etc. I didn't really gain anything and when something was a negative like no spare wheel it should have been expanded on like showing us where one could go if we bought one. Or fold the seats and see how it's done. What about a night drive show those lights in and out. Or all that BMW connect crap call the BMW call centre and see how long it takes. Open the sunroof! Film from the back not staring at some dude talking. He knows his stats though!
It's a MINI Countryman platform. Plus the seven speed dual clutch is not smooth.

I thought the same until I got an EV one month ago. It is so much better than my diesel. But when you do not have an EV what you say makes sense but when you own an EV and use it every day it is very different. I just drow from Copenhagen to Berlin which went great. One fast charging stop for 30 minutes while eating a burger. While Staying at the hotel we charged in the garage so when we drow Home it was 100% ready. So yes, for certain areas in Europe it is as you say but that is now. In Scandinavia it is very different… Next video, try perhaps to see this from both perspectives..?

With a diesel I can drive 10h (1000km) in one go.
'Downsizing' to this X1 would make sense from our X3 BUT...interior isnt a patch on the X3 especially the removal of the iDrive controller - total fail. On long journeys, checking alt routes and Points of Interest eg fuel stations is far safer and easier with the iDrive controller.
Mine has a spare tire.
I really hate to appear rude but could you please reveal the height of the presenter of this film, it's difficult to gauge the relative interior dimensions as he seems to barely reach two thirds of the way up the drivers seat, perhaps it's just camera angles but even when stood outside of the vehicle it appears vast which is strange considering this is just the X1, in theory the smallest of its type in the BMW range!
He looks very short! Autogefrugel with Thomas (spelling sorry) is about 6 foot and his X1 reviews give a better picture. Also try Carexpert here in Australia with Paul who's 6'1" I think 👍
Why not just look online for the cars height measurement 🤷🏻♂️
I think a 4WD diesel would be an absolute treat. Shame about the idrive control wheel but this looks like it could be one of the last great ICE cars
No option of a spare wheel, not even a space saver option shows that BMW really doesn't care about their customers! imagine being in the Scottish highlands getting a puncture which is not able to be repaired with the 'Gel' then the customer is potentially stranded for many, many hours! This is a terrible oversight from BMW
I agree from Australia. There's points of no phone service and even if you did then you're paying a lot of money for a tow truck and then what, replace a tyre or all 4 to keep them even for drivetrain wear? To think we don't get a flat tyre is stupid as it gets from BMW, haven't they had a screw in one or think their clients will not let tyres wear too low etc. They would have had room. I see there are aftermarket providers, if they have a business then why didn't BMW just offer it as an option. A tow truck here would be more expensive than me buying the damn wheel and saving my tyre with a simple repair!
BMWs have Run Flat tyres which I still use on my 2014 F20.
X1s do not shop with runflat tyres -too many complaints about ride quality, they say. IMO once you've worn out the first set, you should go for them. If you have concerns about ride comfort-don't get low-profile tyres
