  • The ALL-NEW 2023 BMW X1 brings with it some pretty major controversy...
    You see, this is the first BMW to come with its new subscription services - pay to unlock the heated seats and steering wheel! But that really overshadows what is otherwise incredible; the all-new X1 has best in class dynamics, tech, comfort and safety. So should you buy the all-new 2023 BMW X1? Let's talk about that!

    The lifetime cost looks like what you’d pay for the feature anyway. This is not the first BMW with subscriptions. BMW used to charge subscription fees for Apple CarPlay until the furore made them backtrack. I think you’ll find the same with this plan.
    As others have said, it’s easy to unlock these things with vehicle coding so this may end up being an own goal.

      @SteveLoughran ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you don't have to pay per month for a feature-you ca buy it outright. And the ability to turn on features aftermarket is potentially good for anyone buying used models because you aren't so constrained by what the previous owner opted for. which, given how stingy BMW were for things in the last (oh, you want front ultrasonics for parking as well as rear ones? that'll cost) can be an improvement.

      been the same for a long time. i don't mind the gear lever/other buttons being out of order....the fact that the compartment lid opens the wrong way does irritate me. it's also why for a lot of manufacturers there's not always enough space for your left leg -it's the passenger who gets all the leg room instead.

    Curious to know if anyone could weigh in here. I have owned a 2021 330i which is about 5.5 seconds and nice and zippy. I have owned an a250 4 matic 2019 again 6.0 seconds both I loved. I got rid of them both even though I did love them, I just prefer suv over sedan or hatch. I currently have a glc300 4 matic and it’s nice and quick again 190kw and and 6.0. I want to get another smaller suv. Acceleration is important to me but so is technology and comfort and I can’t decide if I get as a second car the x1 20 with its 7.3 0-100 and might be disappointed but the cabin is very nice or if I get the T ROC R with the slightly less fancy looks but a 4.9 second 0-100 and still a nice European design. Any thoughts

    • @THEAC83
      @THEAC83 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have this exact specification and doing a few runs, it’s closer to 7-7.1 seconds. The car rides beautifully, has lots of space and the tech is incredible.
      The VW may have the extra power, but it’s not as special as the BMW.

    • @lukiejames
      @lukiejames ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THEAC83 thank you for this! My sister has the Tiguan 162 r line and it’s a lovely car. I find the suspension on the bmw medium for comfort. Mercedes simply hard and awful on both the a250 and the glc and the VW very smooth in comparison. I had an Audi too with smooth suspension too. So I’m torn. I think I will have to try them both but I think the bmw refinement as you said is really nice and I think will sway me! My 330i was in the same blue and it’s such a nice colour. The bmw engines when the turbo comes on also have a deeper sound than the Mercedes. I am a total lover of European cars. My only bug bear with my bmw was the wireless car play would cut out everytime I went into a shopping centre or underground car park and it lost cellular connection which I thought was strange. Why would it need that to stay connected via Bluetooth and wifi? I did not like the infotainment system compared to the Mercedes MBUX with the touch screen and touch pad, still my favourite 😍 However now it has this new one I think I may be swayed to get the bmw over the t roc. My bmw was like a year and a half old had I still owned it so it did have the system still in the current 3 series and most of the line up, the one just before this one with the double screen arrangement. I just never could find things in it quickly so I disliked it. Otherwise I found the bmw so efficient and sporty.
      Thank you for your input. I want everyone’s input so I can get different views.

    absolutely ridiculous to have subscription fees, it will simply not work with consumers. Ppl will just pay the lifetime cost ... unless someone wants to add 15 options and have the car only for 1 year which will save them on the total cost... but still. ridiculous! Also what will likely happen if car manufacturers go down this path, hackers will find a way to unlock all the features.

    I used to work for bmw, honestly a lot of wasted materials. Think about the whole world over with heated elements fitted to a car, only to charge the end user to activate/ use. So what if end user does not pay? Also in the dealership any unsold stock, eg door trims to novelty shirts if unsold, bmw can buy the stock back so the dealer does not have to be out of pocket, catch is when buying back it is actually destroyed and thrown in a skip. Say rather than discounting or even giving parts/ accessories away to customers bmw would rather spend more to “buy back” however is actually destroying goods. System needs an overhaul.

If you want the option forever though you could just pay for lifetime and it’s the same as if they charged you for the heated seats in the first place. I have always preferred sedans over SUV's but this X1 is making me want to switch.

    Subscription is not the way of the future. It's stupidity. First of all it makes you feel as if your car is not actually yours. There are functions "blocked" but you sure did pay for them to be build in. You have to be colossally stupid to pay for that. And why it is not a future? Those overpaid managers should know that. Because car manufacturers who will not use subscription will increase their sale. Most people have negative view on that. And they are right. Having that said I have to say that I'm a BMW fan, love them, love the tradition, design, road handling of their cars and that feeling they give you. Great cars. Bad call with subscription.

    Thanks for the excellent review! ❤❤👋👋👋👋👋! The new 2023 BMW X1 has luxury technology and interior! I see it too square and familiar, it looks like a brick with four wheels. It is also much more expensive! Many will like it, but it's not for me! For that super price buy a car that hides or puts fake exhaust pipes???? Come on BMW, they messed up the back of the car! Here in Miami those who have X1 are moving to Mini Cooper that has already increased sales and orders and it is super fun with many options! I just traded in the sedest and boxiest X1 I had and bought a 2022 X2 S convenient package, white mineral metallic sportier, that looks like a little rocket and is more fun for my taste!! Good luck with the 2023 X1 BMW!

    I’ve owned 4 BMW’s now but with this new subscription system my next car will not be a BMW sorry!

    There will be time with BMW in the near future when your subscription expires your wheel will pop off. The future is coming.

    Why is BMW such an Apple Fanboy? Grow up and add both Car Play and Android Auto to ALL your cars! Paying over $1000 to add it to my BMW is crazy! Fix the direction of the center console cover to open properly for right-hand drive vehicles, please! Large Panoramic Moonroof! How do you block the sun?
