I always absolutely love how they were able to let the melody unfold over a rather long period of time, in no rush to "complete" the song in standard format of like 4 or 5 min with repetitive loops. This is really the sign of artistic maturity imo
Thank you so much for this concert. Brings me right back to my youth when we had the best music. Dire Straits really are timeless. Only in older age did I recognise that as well as being a brilliant musician Mark Knopfler is a poet. His lyrics are deceptively simple.
So surreal to be watching videos of an album (double LP record) I had & played so many times in the mid 80's but hadn't seen before until recently on TH-cam.😃
Wowwww!!! Fantastic, mythical, unattainable Dire Straits... I love all their songs, their music is history. Dire Straits the biggest band in the world. ❤️🎸🔥🔥🔥
This showcases especially the enormous talent of the wonderful Nils Lofgren as 2nd guitar player. There's no way that David, Mark's own brother, could have played this diadic and power chord based part as well as Maestro Lofgren, and the band certainly looks pleased to me. Sounds amazing, a real representation of the original song. Wow. Impressive. 🎶🎶🌟👍
It's not Nils Lofgren! It's Hal Lindes!!! Nils did guest a few times with the band live but has never been part of Dire Straits & Hal looks nothing like Nils!!!!
@Direstraits_ estou bem, mas queria saber de você e do seu canal. Como é seu nome e de onde fala? Deve ser um fan como nós. Parabéns pelo canal, você tem muitos seguidores, claro, saudosos do Dire Straits!
the 80s were a magical time, and I have to go for a walk after I am reminded of those heady years. There are far too many memories that drag me back to better days. I saw Dire Straits live at the UK Birmingham Exhibition Centre, in the ealry days of their "Brothers in Arms" world tour, in June 1985. They had already played behind the Iron Curtain (Yugoslavia, Hungary, Czechoslvakia) and across Western Europe (France, Belgium) before playing 19 gigs in the UK. The tour covered 248 gigs in exactly 12 months. Almost a year later I saw them in Sydney, where I had moved to, at the Entertainment Centre, in March 1986. Same tour, a year later, on the other side of the world. Both concerts were fantastic. The band had a unique style, driven by Mark Knopflers voice. He had a rather limited range compared to someone like Robert Plant. Sting even sang with the band on a few gigs to add vocal dexterity. Because of this Dire Straits relied upon the use of high note guitar licks to add variety. If you listen you can hear what would be counter vocals sang by a woman in a duet. In effect Knopfler is singing to his guitar, and the guitar is singing back with the high notes. You could even do a cover with a female singer adding in extra vocals. Listen to it again, and try singing odd lines in place of the licks.
maaaaan. i have never heard this song until that cold Hollywood Bowl night on the 30th oct…holly fckng shit. I came the 3rd and last day and sneaked behind the stage at the picnic area of Hollywood Bowl, just me and the security guy. hollywood was wailing. it was a sound i have never heard before and most likely never will.
Tenía 14 15 años cuando escuché está canción y compré el disco de diré Straits! Desde ahí supe que quise tocar la guitarra 🎸 gracias a canciones y melodías como las que creo mark! Una leyenda en vida gran músico enorme banda !! 🇦🇷🔊🎶🎶🎸
This masterpiece has got a metapoetic level. That means it is a song about writing a song. ✍️Did you know this? 🎶🎸 To me, it shows Marks remarkable genius as a songwriter, and guitarist aswell. (Source: Christie's catalogue, essay about lot nr 5, the Gibson Chet Atkins nylon stringed, Mark is playing here.)
This kind of music isn’t made anymore, it’s a damn shame.
Because like Frank Zappa said music is made even from his time by the lousy taste of the music industries accountants and executives.
This is why MK is the best guitar player ever. Playing in the 80's with a Spanish / Flamenco guitar. Fookin genius.

Wonderfull
Unforgettable concert. Knopfler excels either as guitar player and song writer with total mastery.
Dire Straits ❤

Invítame a tu primer concierto

I've had the video since being about 8. Still watching now after 40 years.
This brings me back to my teen years, the times I have played this song (loudly ) before going to sleep. Mesmerizing. ❤
J'adore , merci pour le partage .
Loved this song since I was a kid in the late 80's. Glad to see it on the channel!
This song reminds of mixture of feelings and memories that I don't know
Exactly that!

When i was in my early 20's, i would darken the living room and sit there listening to this in surround sound at full blast. Bliss, even to this day.
So unique and totally brilliant
OMG - I wish I could have seen them live
