Another ground I've heard mention of breaking a few times is the driver's side coil ground, down under the exhaust manifold, just behind the power steering pump and near the battery ground cable.
The only issues that plague these trucks are the grounds and a weak 4l60E trans, rust too depending where you live. one ground that i didnt see covered was the rear crossmember, mostly see an issue with this one when someone installs led taillights, they will get turn signals but no running light on one or both tail lights, not enough power being delivered due to terrible ground . aside from that i truly feel like these were the last great trucks produced. they were early obd2 so not a bunch of bs electronics tying into one another, pushrod v8 made it super reliable and a solid engine bay easy enough to work on anything. iron block aluminum head with part interchangeability between 4.8 and 5.3 liter, drive by cable so power was immediately there and you dont need a pedal commander. body on frame design with c channel frame. then you had the pinnacle of early 2000s interior design with the easiest panels, trim, and seats to remove that also could be swapped out simply from higher end escalades and denalis at the time to your work truck pickup. these trucks are still on the road today where alot of these newer ones are designed to fail after their warranties
Hi thank you for making these informative videos. I’m having an issue with my 4x4 actuating on its own can it be a ground issue is there a ground for that?
Watching a bunch of your vids and here's a brand new one. '04, Z71, 5.3, 4 wd, Burb in great shape here. The ground at pass. head I ran to body to block ground strap on drivers side. Cured no crank, erratic door locks, switching 2 hi to 4 hi, and check engine light. That might not be the best place to move the ground to because of some electrical theory but has worked so far. Also cleaned under drivers seat and under core support. So glad you are covering the GMT800 as they are a great truck and people love them. Thanks a bunch. You mention about Flex fuel using different intake, injectors, sensors. I always use regular gas is there any advantage/ disavantage if I don't burn E85 gas?
That's good to know. It sounds like it wasn't getting a good ground where it was. I have seen that kind of thing happen before with ground wires. I know they say don't move them, and I usually don't. No it doesn't matter Regular gas should be cheaper though. The problem is when guys try to swap their intakes and get the wrong ones.
@@MattsShop Actually I learned about that ground wire behind the passenger head so I reached down there and it broke off. Wouldn't crank over after that. I see it had a repair eyelet so I connected to that flat braided ground strap as others have. I'm overhauling the engine soon and will deal with all grounds while it's out. Thanks for your vids.
I don't know how many of your videos I've watched and always found them helpful. I have a 99 Suburban LS with a 5.7 V8 that sat for a few years until it was basically given to me, runs fair but it's an electrical nightmare. It's a generation 8 Suburban made in October, that's the month that Chevy started making the generation 9 Suburban, totally different. The grounds you show are not even there and I notice that you don't mention the 5.7 in your videos. What's the deal with this? Is it an off the wall rare setup or something? I love this rig and want to get it fixed up but even ordering parts for it is almost impossible to do, easier to order for a 98.
I have a weird black wire comes out of a negative terminal goes to the coil connector... And then goes into the main harness it comes out and goes to the ground point by the alternator .. is it a ground relocation or is it for the audio system the guy had prior to me... Also has aftermarket security system to
I understand your advice for dielectric grease, but the paradox of using a nonconductive paste to promote conductivity never fails to puzzle me. Of course excluding water is wise, and practically speaking I've done it many times. Interestingly, I've come across Subaru TSB's that describe silicone dioxide as an unfortunate oxidation byproduct of dielectric grease, and they counsel against using silicone near fragile electronic connections. Recently, Eric O of South Main Auto used a conductive grease in the form of No Ox ID to exclude water and promote conductivity on battery connections, and to me a conductive grease seems a better fit for isolated ground connections. Exclude water but don't impair conductivity! Of course where multiple small independent connections come together, you can't have any kind of electron sharing, so conductive grease would be a problem. But for isolated ground or battery connections, I'll reach for conductive grease....
Could that fueler neck ground cause low fuel pressure I replaced the pump twice, the filter a couple months ago and the regulator and I’m only getting 16 psi when I turn the key and 25 when it’s running I got told it could be a bad group strap for the fuel pump
Not on these trucks. It doesn't really do much. The power for the fuel pump doesn't come from there. You should have around 50PSI at idle at the fuel rail.
ABS modules do go bad on them but check your wheel speed sensors. Make sure to do an OBDII diagnostic and see what code you get. Also try to drive on a hard surface and brake hard to see if your ABS system is engaging.
Question: My truck keeps saying service air bag on the dash, but the switch can be touched and the message disappears. It still pops up intermittently when driving but will go away on its own. Would this be related to the impact sensor up front below the bumper, or would it be the switch itself inside?
where is the ground for the brake lights? mine dont work and i have replaced everything including the turn signal switch. the 3rd brake light is working but the ones on the bed dont.
@@MattsShop yes. when i replaced the turn signal switch -the brake lights worked for 1 day . this is a real stumper. brake lights work tru the trailer lights . everything has been replaced but still no brake lights
On my 2004 Chevy Tahoe I have a weird electronic chirp sound that happens randomly even when the car is off could this be a ground issue? The sound does not come from the speakers I’ve asked pretty much everyone including online forums but nobody knows. I’m looking into onstar and maybe it’s the cause of this mysterious chirp.
Can anybody help me, I have a 2005 Silverado 1500. whenever I use the window controls my lights dim a little. The headlights and the inner lights like the gauge cluster lights
I assume that most of the ground wire issues you point out are problematic in the rust belt areas. I have had zero issues with any grounds living in Texas.
I don’t have a ground on the first one , I’ve look and even took apart the loom to find it never found it. Help me???? It’s on a 2007 new body style gmc crew cab
I dont understand why GM used the exposed ground straps, totally unnecessary, you wont see Honda using them and will not have issues, I replace them with 8 or 10 gauge insulated wire
Those ground wires at the computer Are for activating things, because computer doesn’t produce power it uses the grounds that’s how it activates things through the ground circuit. It can’t do it through the power circuit.

Caused my no spark driver side bank. So glad I just splice a new wire into the black wire and ground it..DONE!

2:12 That’s why I couldn’t find it! It’s sideways! I tried finding it with a endoscope. Thanks for showing the orientation.
Can you do a video on fixing your clear coat on your hood and top of the cab.
If your instrument panel acts crazy sometimes, it may be a bad ground wire. Check the A6 Black wire and the A8 black/white wire on the cluster plug.
Thanks for the info. Everyone keep sharing knowledge!
Great video
Nice channel 👍 but you missed quadrasteer ground wire😊
Have you done anything with the headliners?
