That video is a cinema masterpiece. But... that engine is about 66 years old. The oil fill in the intake and the vapor can in the lifter valley indicates it vintage. The exhaust manifolds are 70’s items. Ram horn manifolds would be correct to that motor. But I still loved it.
The editing.. the music... Hagerty is on another level of editing. (cant even think how long it took to do the screw/bolts shots... but worth it...) legit i opened this video to have something in the background, and i couldnt look away for the 8 minutes lol
Just. Unbelievable. Not only the level of cleanup, machine work, restoration, paint, assembly, and attention to detail, but to take the time to do what amounts to "claymation" video on the disassembly was nothing short of astounding. Next-level talent in so many areas...
When I was a teenager I helped my dad rebuild the 350 for our ‘67 Camaro. I’ve watched the old Smallblock rebuild countless times, and it’s so cool to see another one in the current redline rebuild editing style!
You see the rig they use in some of the shop diary videos - it's a motorized slide rail that slowly moves while the time-lapse is taken. They must have added a motorized turntable for some of these shots. The corkscrew motion is probably done in the video editing.
Another timeless piece of editing goodness! I love the macro lens shots of inside the engine where the camshaft goes. Never knew how roughly casted those engines were back then. She purrs like a kitten like Davin says. Those restrictive cast iron manifolds really makes the engine quiet. A set of long tube headers and a beefy cam would make this engine sound niiiice. But I understand, this rebuild was meant for a stock cruiser. The engine was rebuilt better and more balanced thanks to the guys at Apex Competition Engine for balancing the crankshaft.
@@karenthomson9749 I know, but it was relatively stock build as Davin mentioned before. He even mentioned before the block got painted, that black painted blocks are race engines. Orange painted blocks are stock lol
Well... when I saw the roller tappet brackets being installed I scratched my head a little. When they installed the OEM manifold and two barrel carb it becomes clear that this isn't a fire breather but an engine made to live on pump gas on the street.
One of the best motors ever built, the small block, next was the big block. By any he way, shove the he guidelines for this channel, right up!! GOT IT !!!!🥊
Have to say this is without a doubt the best time lapse engine rebuild video I've ever seen. The photography was awesome and I can only imagine how much time you put into it. Very entertaining, and the associated rebuild videos are also very informative/helpful. Thank you and keep up the great work!
I watched all the individual episodes where this engine was being worked on, but it is still always fun to watch the time-lapse and see it actually fire up and run at the end.
As a shop owner I know the amount of work it takes to rebuild a motor, and all that stop motion photography takes a lot of time and talent as well, if anybody is looking to have an engine remade ? these are the guys that you would trust to do it. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video, this is quality viewing that any small child could sit in front of and enjoy and possibly learn something. There needs to be more videos like this. Good job guys !!
Is there a reward for the best Timelapse in the history of the universe? I hope there is, because this one definitely deserves it! I love it 😍 Great job guys!
The team that makes these time-lapses episodes is incredible! I've done stop-frame animation before, so I know how time-consuming and difficult it can be. Kudos on some fantastic work! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
Wow! I have not seen claymation work this great since I saw the movie "The Seven Voyages of Sinbad" back in the mid sixties. Who has that much time and patience to make a video like this? Where is the academy award for this animation? Come on, Academy, get with the program!
Watching this awesome video makes me think that my son should see it. He just got a '64 Chevy Impala project car. No engine but the body appears to be in fairly decent shape. I will forward this video to him. Nice work, gentlemen!
I love that with all of the modern innovation and specialized tools we have, the best choice for installing pistons is still the back end of a deadblow mallet. I watched my dad do it countless times as a kid, and I can still hear the noise it makes.
Your cinematography skills are incredible. You guys have stepped up your game in every video and I can only imagine the time and effort that goes into this level of video. Could you ever do a behind the scenes on how you set up shots?
Incredible! The stop motion scenes themselves would haven taken an incredible amount of time. You could have built 3 engines during this same amount of film production time. Bravo!
You Guys just never stop getting better in your work, from Davin to all the guys who make the shots, filming, editing, everything. You're always above expectations! And look how that perfect balanced engine Revs dude! Love you guys from Hagerty, keep doing this great work
I’m betting that years 50 from now we won’t be as excited watching someone rebuild electric drive motors…but hey, I could be wrong. An amazing video; watched every second of it.
I usually wouldn't watch this sort of thing because I've done this a few times myself, but I've NEVER had an engine tear itself down and rebuild itself! Very interesting and fun to watch.
Very Cool Editing! She's purring again... Growing up in the country, my Dad and I repaired and rebuilt many engines and transmissions. In The Barn! He was a mechanic by trade, gasoline and diesel engines. Much of what I learned from him carries on today. Love these old Chevy engines.
How do you know when a video is good? It makes you want to see a "Making of" of the the video! Sure hope the production guys won an award for this. I can't imagine how they got some of these shots. Just brilliant.
Boss, I watched almost everything you broadcast and you know, friend, there was a special blessing after seeing this, I was able to dismantle a machine and of course the machine I assembled came to life.
The editing on these videos is just unreal! So much time and patience from the camera man to the editor to the mechanics! Keep up the awesome works guys and gals! 🇺🇸
That is a thing of beauty my friend... Artistry and iron, I grew up loving these old motors... When you do them all up right they're like Little gemstones, and I must say you fellas go above and beyond the call of duty.
My head almost exploded with happiness as I watched this. So stunning on multiple levels. Machine work that is an art in itself, painting, filming, still framing, editing. This is so wonderful. Thank you for being awesome.
Amazing job and video production. I can't imagine the amount of work it required to make this video and well done! I love these rebuilds and like the fact that a roller camshaft and roller rockers were used, which only makes sense to upgrade to better technology to insure longevity, when you can. Beautifully detailed engine and awesome craftsmanship!
I usually have to speed restoration videos up to get them to even seem like real time. Here's a video I have to slow down to catch it all. Bravo! Thank you!
My first car was a '67 Impala Sport Coupe with a 283, "Powerslide". Except for the "ram's horn" exhaust manifolds that was the engine that defined my youth. Other than the curious need to rebuild that 2bb Rochester carb and the nylon timing gear that left me stranded with my high school girlfriend on a deserted side road, it was an excellent mill. Thank you for not giving in to the "stock build" trolls and allowing me to see this old lump brought back to it's original form .... 2bb carb and all. Excellent!!
Man the amount of work that went into this video. Holy smokes. Good for you guys. And the fact that maybe I missed one but not a single broken bolt that I saw.. unbelievable
Sweet! My first vehicle was a 1969 Chevy Blazer 350 small block. It had a 3 speed transmission with a L for Low in the first gear position. Low range Low gear hand a fifty two to one gear reduction. Thanks for the video. The presentation was great.
OmG!!! I cant beleive I watched this... but then!!! Its BRILLANT! to all who were involved and developed this video. AWESOME JOB! i felt like a kid of sorts watching Saturday cartoons with the stop animation. Remarkable discipline and so much detail that was put in, wow. Great Saturday coffee watch.
Nicely done gentlemen !! They were always a sweet engine and good to see one come back to factory condition (or better ) Thanks so much for all you do Davin and crew
I’ve watched many engine tear down and rebuild videos, so I really didn’t need any commentary on what was happening, that being said, this video is awesome!
One of the best TH-cam videos I've ever seen. Great editing, camera work, no cussing, spot on timing re: when and when not talk. Outstanding in every sense. *God bless.*
This video is way beyond next level infotainment. Lighting, camera, editing, process, editing, soundtrack, all exceptional. You've set the new bar. Thanks from Colorado.
This is visually stunning. The amount of time that went into making this must have been staggering. To everyone who made this, I thank you for all your hard work and effort. Much appreciation and respect to you all 🙏 🫡.
🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁 Performing this time lapse animation is just as expertise as this precision engine rebuild! - Like WOW!! 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁 …I'm sharing this video It should be shown in all mechanics school classes!
The ONLY dissatisfying issue about this whole complete time lapse video is the 2 forced TH-cam commercials that interrupted such cool, smooth perfection.
I currently have a 1978 Chevrolet big 10 I gave $800.00 YES 8 HUNDRED DOLLARS for. Tore the engine down, ran the block numbers and it's a 350 4bolt main out of a 80 to 85 Chevrolet truck. The trans is a 400 turbo. This video makes me want to kick it in HIGH GEAR and get this thing BUILT AND ON THE ROAD. Awesome video, THANKS.
I remember doing this a few times about 34 years ago. 73 cougar 351 cj with factory hype everything 4 bolt main dual timing chain etc. and 76 Camaro 350. Beef up both a little extra. My cougar as heavy it was used to eat corvettes mustangs and much more for breakfast. I even tore my Camaro a new one with that cougar. Great video you brought back memories ❤
I cannot even begin to imagine how long it takes to get these time lapse shots done. Amazing work!
Can you say overtime.
There was a video where he said it takes something like 8 times as much time as it usually would. It’s insane.
Did you notice on a few shows the camera rig on the conveyor belt? BET IT COST MORE THAN MY RIDE!
A long time... but well worth it, we think!
B Roll stop motions take an incredible amount of time. You can work an entire day just for 10 seconds of video. NUTS!

It came out of a 66 Chevelle, that'd make it 58yrs old.... 🤦

Thanks Nick! The disassembly shots took... a while! But we thought it was worth it, too!

The guy in charge of editing the video deserves a raise
The most amazing thing about this whole video is how all the exhaust manifold bolts came out without even one breaking.
Pretty impressive. I’m going about it all wrong. They are a whole lot faster than I am and telekinetic.
@@johnsullenger4397, on a Chevrolet engine, that's normally not an issue
The most impressive thing of this stop motion is the rotation of the camera and how smooth it rolls. Brilliant work
