  • @keithserafy
    @keithserafy ปีที่แล้ว +93

    Andreas, you are the best at what you do. According to her LA guitarist, Ivan Mendez, in an interview he stated that all the songs he played for her in these home recordings were unrehearsed, impromptu performances where he spends a few minutes learning the song & then just follows her as best he can while she is reading the lyrics off screen. He said the only time they did a 2nd take was if he made a big mistake, since she never does. Her guitarist from Norway when she was 8-12, Egil Clausen, said she did the same thing with him, just making it up as she goes along. I've never heard of any vocalist doing that before & I believe it's why she is better live than in the studio. Today as a professional, her producers, Stargate Productions, say she is a one-take wonder in the studio. They say the only other artists that they know of who can do that, besides Angelina, is Beyoncé & Sam Smith. Stargate has worked with about 30-40 of some of the biggest names in the business that didn't make that short list. I think her most impressive work to date is her cover of the classic jazz standard, My Funny Valentine, she recorded on Instagram when she was barely 16 yo. th-cam.com/video/ETGLbsGDAI0/w-d-xo.html It is a Masterclass in vocal control & dynamics & it's the best version I've ever heard from all the legendary vocalists that have covered it.

      @@andreasgrussl I second Keith's recommendation. However, be aware that it is not a live recording...but it doesn't matter, as Keith said, it's a master class. I like how you listen the whole work through and then go back and break it down. That way you get the full impact, yet have a lot of opportunity to explain your thoughts..and avoid Blocks and Strikes. 👍🏼 The only other reactor I can think of who does that is the Fairy Voice Mother.

    Andreas, Angelina is the embodiment of your sign, "Sing smart, not hard". Her musicality and technique at any age are off the charts and she sings with such ease. So far she has avoided the kind of voice strain problems that Adele dealt with (except when she gets a cold). One vocal coach attributed her vocal health to the fact that she uses her voice in so many different ways that she never wears down any part of it through overuse. Plus she has high-level technique, though she is largely self-taught.
    As you say "Genius!"

    • @andreasgrussl
      @andreasgrussl  ปีที่แล้ว +27

      I agree! And the more I watch her, the more I'm astonished by her artistic depth. The way she emulates that song quickly shows an artistic mastery I only know from singers that were MUCH older than Angelina in that performance. That to me really is the most astonishing thing about her art.

    • @sahinberg
      @sahinberg 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@andreasgrussl But here I have an honest question that I want to get an expert opinion: Isn't her "genre range" somewhat limited to strain her vocal chords? I mean, she doesn't sing pop, rock etc. (I don't agree when she jazzifies pop or rock songs and sings like that, what I mean is singing a song within the discipline of that song's genre) I've watched nearly 60-70 songs of her but there are lots out there I know, maybe I missed some stuff that would prove me wrong. Please suggest me such pieces of her.

    Ivan Mendez was Angelina's (12y) guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his TH-cam channel, Ivan told the story of how the cover's came about. In a nutshell "Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she decides spontaneously if she likes a song. After hearing a song she says great song and has downloaded the lyrics. OK, well, let's start ". Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time after her arrangement without rehearsing beforehand. 💯 *AJ* 💯

  • @johnvasi
    @johnvasi ปีที่แล้ว +28

    This was the song that did it for me. It made me positive that Angelina, at 12, was the best singer I’d ever heard. Her stunning voice, her interpretive abilities, and her musicality all come together in this impromptu performance that still makes me react both emotionally and physically every time I watch it. Even as a very young child, Angelina had the ability to express melancholy that you feel deeply. When Adele sings her beautiful song lyrics, you feel her pain. When Angelina sings this, you understand that the sadness and lost opportunities of A Million Years Ago is about you. It’s about the chances we’ve all missed-and which we’ll never have again.
    Her low register is amazing, and her musical wisdom or innate musicality guides this child to understand how perfectly, intimately that depth of tone sets the stage for the emotional ride we’re going to experience in this song. And, amazingly, this casual performance that made me realize Angelina was the best singer I’d ever heard is not perfect technically. But it’s staggering in so many other ways. After actively listening to music for 70 years, Angelina affected me like no other singer.

The simplicity and ease with which she deals with songs of this type, without preparing them (she reads the lyrics) and often recorded on the first or second run (as reported by her guitarists), is simply amazing even more for a 12/13 year old girl, not to mention her vocal range.💛🧡❤

    Andreas, This is the very first song I heard from Angelina 5 years ago and I was hooked! I was not just amazed by the quality of her vocals, the low register, the techniques, and the emotions. It also floored me that she was only 12 years old! She was expressing the emotion of the song as if she had lived it and we know she had not. An emotional intelligence beyond her years. I said to myself this girl is going to be a legend!
    Your observations and analysis are spot on and I thoroughly enjoy tuning in.

    Andreas, what a wonderful video. I'm not a singer so a lot of stuff you put out there flew right over my head but I still enjoyed watching the excitement in your voice as you described what was going on. If I could contribute something to the video via comments, it is the following: "I've been around the block a few times and I love music and in all my years this young lady is, by far, the most sensational artist I have ever heard. Her voice is so unique with it's soulfulness, it's range, the hint of jazz and she's a great storyteller. And, we must include who she is as a person because that soulfulness we hear is coming from her soul in the form of love and that love touches our hearts and when it does it will never leave us. Our hearts will never let that happen. We can hear the same song literally hundreds of times (no lie!!!) and still tear up or full out cry every time. I used the word unique to describe her voice just to point out how different it is. It's so much more than that and what's incredible, AGE IS NOT A FACTOR in regards to the way she delivers love straight to us when she sings. Of course her voice changes as she gets older but she stays with it and always maintains control of it."
    Andreas, she's graduating school this spring and she's ready to commit herself to her career. She has just come out with a new original single, 'Love Don't Let Me Go', an EP will be coming out in June and a new album a little later in the year. She has told us all the songs in the album are originals. She'll probably go on her first world tour and probably introduce those songs at the same time. Last thing, Andreas, I do feel like she sings FOR me, not to me. She sings FOR each person and all of us can feel that in our hearts.

    her voice seems to effect the guy playing the guitar in such a way that he can feel it in his soul just look at his face. It says if she’s taking him back to a point in his life. Although the song may not have anything to do with him it just reaches into your soul and bring out such joy and raw emotion. Thanks for the wonderful analysis, Andreas. You don't really mention it but her voice does lose some presence on the low notes here, especially in the second verse. I think she would probably do better now being a bit older. Regardless, the chorus is the part that blows me away. It's just heartbreaking when she sings "I miss my mother" even though her mother is probably right there watching. 😃

    First of all, the production effort here is off the charts for a reaction video. All the points raised were illustrated with many cuts and repeats that were stitched together with some serious craftsmanship. The video editing could have easily exceeded the message here. But, that wasn't the case. Andreas' analysis was at least as capably done as the production. What impressed most was his emphasis on the musicality that Angelina brought to this performance, not her tone, not her technique - both of which merited high praise. While technically Angelina is brilliant, she may even top those skills with how she interprets a piece of music, always applying her skills in service of the composition. Andreas was right on point where he targeted his analysis. Kudos.

    Ivan Mendez, the guitarist, was born in Mexico and emigrated to California to attend school. After college he worked in business management and played guitar
    as an avocation. He sent samples of his playing to Angelina prior to her move to LA. Much of the time Ivan would go to the Jordan house after work to jam with
    Angelina. Often Angelina would suggest songs, some of which Ivan had never heard, so they would jam on it then do one take recordings, like this piece. I
    appreciate how Ivan seems to follow and support Angelina's interpretations as they play.

I love what you say about the texture in the voice, which I love - I think there is a big difference here from Adele whose voice I find a bit boring in comparison. Welcome back Andreas. Really love your nerdy analysis of Angelina, the nerdier the better. Your awesome 👌. If you really want to hear her lower range etc, react to and analyze these covers she did. "Born To Die " originally by Lana del Rey. "How great thou art" She does it in the same key as Elvis and really shows her control by keeping it the same all the way through the song. "You make me feel so young" originally by Frank Sinatra. Angie sings this in a type of duet and gets low into the 2nd, but with an upbeat song. All these songs she gets easily gets down into C3 and lower into the 2nd octave 🤯. (Will you also please react to Laura Bretan's cover of "Adagio". She’s not well known outside her circle cause of her genre's but her voice and character are amazing and she's also a Prodigy ❤). God bless you 🙏. ❤🙂👍

    Dear Austrian friend, Mr. Mendez, the guitarist told in an interview with Alan Papier, that this was all inpromptu sessions, He came over to the house, ate with the family, and he and Angelina went to her musical corner in her room. They flicked though songs, until they found one they both liked. He had 15 to 20 minutes to get the music right and then they recorded it in one take, he said also, when they had a second take, it was his fault, he got so faszinated with her voice, that he sometimes erred. He also told, never, was she impatient with him.
    By the way, Angelina released a new song, she wrote herself, it´s the first release of her upcoming album in fall 2023. "Love don´t let me go"
    Be healthy and safe.
