If someone asked me to describe her singing voice, I would answer: she doesn't sing, she breathes the songs.

Have you heard her reworking of the jangly Elvis tune Suspicious Minds? It shows her adult voice, the opening phrase is the most perfectly placed full velvety solid notes ive ever heard.
I haven't yet, but so many people have suggested it here that it is now on my list for a reaction video.
If Angelina comes up with a original song as good as this one her new album will be a huge success.. What a voice.

You are correct, she is a master, with unbelievable control of her voice.
Andreas, Angelina had just turned 15 here and she premiered a velvety, textured quality to her voice for the first time . . . and it was beautiful! She was working very hard to improve her voice even as it continued to mature and change. I believe she will settle into the Alto range as she continues to develop.

What a treat when I saw Andreas reacted to this performance! There is no other voice now or in the past that impacts me the way Angelina's does. You explain why better than anyone else. This performance is packed with tasty little variations only Angelina does. Always love your reaction and analysis of Angelina. She was 15 here. You should check out her version of Elvis's "Suspicious Minds". She has lots of nods to Elvis and his wife Priscilla etc. Also she can comfortably sing in the 2nd octave. Check out her versions of Frank Sinatra's "You make me feel so young" when she was 13, and "How great thou art", She sings it in the same key as Elvis and she was only 12. She was also invited to sing at this year's FIFA awards ceremony 2023 with RedOne who wrote the theme song for this year's event and sang with her.(I felt Angelina saved the song 🎵 with her voice and style even though they had technical difficulties near the end. 🙂👍❤🙏

It is extremely satisfying to listen to a reactor with your knowledge reacting to Angelina. Adele is the best but nobody can emit the emotion and soul of a song like Angelina.
I think she reads the lyrics first before listening to the song.
In this way she can understand the feeling and emotion the artist wants to convey.
Then she arranges it to be able to dramatically convey the feeling and emotion to us.
She takes iconic songs and makes them Angelina songs.
Her vocals, tones and smokiness do the rest. She is already The Greatest of All Time!

Angelina is 'rooted' in the jazz techniques she learned from the great Billie Holiday,
and when it comes to heartfelt ballads, her emotion laden penetration is so much
like Billie was able to do. Adele is great, for sure, but there is no way a non-jazz singer,
which she is, could ever hope to match Angelina. Besides Billie's trademark ' breathy',
'whisper-like' inflections, Angelina also brings into play the stretching (slurring) that
another great jazz singer named Amy Winehouse was known for. Both Billie and Amy
would use these radical mid-sentence 'key' changes that I suspect even Amy took from
Billie. Angelina's 'vocal chameleon' ability to emulate just about any A-list singer she
desires, which in the case of this song includes Adele and Christina Aguilera's sound.
Have never heard another singer do something this intricately complex with regard to
the sound of so many additional artists in an individual song.
Hi Andreas. We all know Adele is an absolutely stunning singer and for Angelina Jordan to show much more depth in her voice can only excite Angels everywhere. Angelina has always been a step above her entire life, and it's never been more pronounced than what we're seeing today. Cheers!
I think she is unique. She does use inspiration from several performers. She has an amazing gift of connecting to others. It is more than technique. I think she cares about others, and they can feel it.

Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California is Angelina's A&R person, and he has been working with AJ since she signed with the largest record company in the world at the age of 14, three years ago. Rob was the MC of AJ Christmas Show that aired Dec 23, of 21. AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 21 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years, and toured with Barbara Streisand, accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. The main pianist, a five-time nominated for Grammys, Shelly Berg, stated in all his years working with the greatest vocalist, he had never encountered a talent like AJ. Did I forget to mention Jimmy Z, the famous Sax Player who worked with Rod Steward, Etta James, the Eurythmics, and Doctor Dre, was part of the band for the show? Jimmy stated that AJ was the best he has ever played for. Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California played the guitar, and was the MC of the show. (I can't list the complete backgrounds on all the band members because it would take several pages to do them justice.) Angelina stated that she would rather perform than take a breath, and she has never been forced to perform, it has been her decision.

I believe great what you will find as you listen to more of her work, is that she can’t really be painted into any specific voice type. This was a very enjoyable, insightful, and educational reaction. Kudos to you for your analysis! Angelina actually does have the deeper fuller voice now at age 17. She was only 14 here. But she actually displayed it at a younger age such as when she sang How Great Thou Art in the register of Elvis Presley! Possibly contralto level!

Dear Mr. Grussl, in her I have nothing video 2022 she went deeper, someone said it was at least alto maybe even contralto. in Norway, when singing Labrints "Mount Everest" she went to a very high head voice but when she said WOW during her concert it sounded VERY low. I am very curios what her vocal reach she has.

Angelina's voice changed quite a bit from this performance to her current performances. I really heard it with her live concerts in Norway last summer..really beautiful. Fascinating to hear a great technical analysis of Angelina's nuanced vocals and the many tools she has developed. Interesting to hear your thoughts about how her voice may evolve, and helpful to hear other singers in different ranges compared to Angelina. She has so many ranges she can work in, but judging from her summer 2022 concerts in Norway, her voice is deepening. I'm guessing mezzo, but nothing would surprise me (except coloratura). Angelina is a genius born with an absolute ear for music and she arranges the songs she sings. At age 6 she spoke and wrote Norwegian and English and with the Iranian girl of Libra, with whom she will make the famous pact to perform barefoot she speaks in Farsi (the Iranian grandmother's language). She also plays various instruments. We have seen her accompany herself on guitar and piano.
Like almost all geniuses she is self-taught.

Sir! I have been listening for years to people commenting and explaining what she is doing, but YOU, you have finally shown me what phrasing means. I swear to God, I have sought an explanation for what phrasing is with reference to singing since she was 10 yo. People would skirt around it but not nail what it means. Everyone says her phrasing is spectacular. And I always say well great but what the heck is it? Obviously her singing is spectacular, but what am I hearing that makes it so much better than any one else’s, in my opinion. You have finally revealed the meaning of that term. Bless you and thank you and now I can die in peace. (Kidding). But I can really listen for that particular skill now(!!), and know what I’m looking for in other singers, too. Great job!!

I believe that Adele is a a really good song writer, but Angelina has a voice full of soul and warmth. I truly believe that Angelina is a a better singer she makes you feel it in your heart. Great comments about timbre -- both of accompaniment and vocals. AJ's timbre (and range) is so suited for Adele's music -- which is why AJ covers her songs so often. Adele is a brilliant composer -- and AJ's voice is even better suited to her compositions than Adele's.

This song was produced and composed by Bruno Mars,Adelle just took part in writing ,Bruno Mars also has a version of this which most people think is a better version than of Adelle's bc he put real emotions on it while singing.

She makes it her own and yet still maintains to keep it as a beautiful and tasteful tribute to Elvis.

Hej Andreas, that was a great dissection, thanks, one of the most detailed ones I've seen to this performance... love your expertise, in this case also the frequent pausing and replay of short sections because you really have something to say and make a point when you do so, really enjoyed this, also the voice comparisons, or the piano sound... can't wait for you to do more reactions to Angelina, I'm just addicted to her voice and need (or at least enjoy) to hear her singing every day!
But as you asked: I'd really LOVE to watch you do such a profound breakdown with a magnificent performance that doesn't get as many reactions, maybe because the artist is from a rather remote part of the world (from my Bavarian point of view, she studied at The Royal College of Music, London though...).
I won't tell more about Isyana Sarasvati here as I would enjoy you to go into this one here as blind as I was when I first encountered her and was totally blown away... but if you want to do some research and see if you may trust me and Isyana may be worth a reaction and analysis: She got an article on en:Wikipedia which should get you going... :)
As the great artist she is she has a lot of recordings to listen to, but we have to start somewhere, so I'd suggest one she did a year ago. It's the first song in a series of the seven original songs first released on her third album "Lexicon" two years ago, but here in a set of semi acoustic live recordings with an additional string quartet. She starts with the title song "Lexicon" (which is track 4 on the album, she did not only rearrange the music but also the order of the songs for this video series...), the song is in Bahasa Indonesia and has no subtitles, but there are lyric translations available on the web if you need them... I think for a first encounter it would be great if you were to focus only on the music, arrangement, vocals and expression and see what you can draw from that, I didn't have more at hand either when she first struck me...
This would be a hell of an interesting reaction for me to watch, and a great discovery for you, I'm quite sure of that having watched multiple of your reactions to different great artists like Angelina or Katrina Velade, in case you read my comment and decide to follow my invitation thank you so much in advance, you won't regret it for sure!
